I really hated the fighting. Having a super-anime zippy flightly everyone-hits-a-dozen-times-a-second style is fine and good, but then you give that style to a character who is, according to the storyline, still a child? Even a "oh-she-has-such-POTENTIAL"-child?

How are you supposed to demonstrate improvement and growth when everyone starts the series (hell even in the trailers!) zipping around at the speed of sound and dispatching a dozen of the enemy at once. Even Naruto and Bleach who are the fucking kings of bullshit powers knew you started small and built up.

You're meant to be Goku-strong at the END of the series, not the beginning. I gave up at the end of season two when the big threat was used to make an AMV and dispatched painlessly to demonstrate the four new op characters.

The problem there is the plot only shows up at the middle and end of Season 3. Which is pretty fucking ridiculous. The only thing happening in Seasons 1 and 2 is the criminals shitting around then letting some Grimm into the city. Which didn't need two whole seasons to set up that, yes, they're doing something mysterious beyond just being criminals. All of this really only accomplishes setting up the situation of Season 3 anyway. Before then Season's 1 and 2 should've been more heavily condensed into one season, and maybe even sped up Season 3 a bit.

The fundamental problem is the show is caught between action set pieces and trying to do character and plot development, and it's pretty much only doing that one character or relationship at a time. This resulted in 2 seasons of decompressed set up and then everything happening in Season 3. I can't exactly recall my thoughts on it now, but I was struck by how unconnected all of the development and plot was. It frequently felt like characters, and the story, were put on hold so other people could do their own thing without anyone tripping over each others feet. More tightly working everything together here would've given the show overall more time to work with, especially to condense Seasons 1 and 2.

And, honestly, the characters are barely interesting to begin with. The side characters often seem more interesting, because their cliches aren't given a chance to stink up the main story with entry level melodrama retardation (except Jaune and Pyrrha's thing). I was astounded when I realized the last two seasons of RvB were written by one of the writers of RWBY, because it was a tier above. It actually managed to give me unironic enjoyment of the characters and story. Perhaps because it had years and years of previous set up to build on, but maybe also because RWBY is aiming for anime schlock and forgot it needs to be interesting on its own merits beyond relying on the schlock.

I've been saying that RT should have remade the first season for a long time. It's so amateurish compared to the rest because all the background characters aren't even designed: They're just shadows. The first season was also relatively short, so it's not like they have to redo everything. I admire and respect his work ethic, but I absolutely despise is philosophy. To make something and a lot of it despite of quality standard. He stuck to poser because it would take too many growing pains to learn maya, and rushed story in general to shove it to the audience of look at. This is terribly inefficient and it reflects on the final product, there is a reason why so many other industry studios work together to make a single shows. Rooster Teeth insists on holding back the potential of the show in order to just make something by keeping it all in house, hiring amateurs to voice, script and design. First season they weren't even considering hiring professional VAs outside of Cortana, but now many of their new important ones are recognizable famous anime VAs. It's kind of jarring because even though I'm not a fan of Vic or Yuri, they're still better than most of the cast. Ironwood, Roman, Salem and Ozin are the only ones that come close. And two of them are professional actors.

I actually managed to talk to one of the animators at RTX this year. Everyone on the animation staff is super pumped about completely switching over to the maya pipeline.

Everything about dynamic lighting, shadows, and the smoother animation capabilities Maya has over Poser is making the team really excited for what they can do for volume 4.

Their only concern right now is getting everyone up to speed on the new tech and making sure their render farm can handle the load of the new scenes.

Kerry admitted during the RWBY Animation Panel that they fired several cable bundles in their render machines when they worked on the rendering of that trailer for RTX. The animator I spoke to said they worked for about almost two weeks of 14 hour days to make that trailer happen and they learned a lot from the experience.

As far as I was able to find out, they have scripts for the first 5 episodes done and storyboarded, the audio completely done for episode 1 and they're about to start doing the full animation for it as well.

The shot opens with a red hooded figure walking on a cliff overlooking a village clearly under attack and on fire. The angle obscures her face and makes you wonder for a brief second if this is Ruby or her mom Summer (red clock with a white liner)

Then in a quick motion she fires off her scythe and propels herself up in the air to impale the blade into the back of a nevermore and rides it into the village. Once over the village she fires off the scythe again, bisecting the wing off the nevermore and plummets down into the center of the village.

There she tackles on several groups of alphas, which by the way are MUCH more detailed, (bigger teeth, larger jaws, trailing major wisps of smoke off their shoulders) which appear to be smarter and faster than the ones we've seen before, they repeatedly flank her and some even start ripping bricks form buildings and start throwing them at her.

Ruby is significantly faster now, using her speed semblance to both attack and telelport all over the place, even going so far as in one scene to split her swarm of rose petals into three parts and reform behind a beowulf where she headshots him at point blank range. Here you can see major improvemment in the lighting. The torches/fires/moonlight are all reflecting dynamically off of ruby and her face/clock and the movement is much much smoother.

Finally the big climax to the trailer is a fucking MASSIVE gorilla grimm who starts tearing up the town attacking Ruby, even going so far as to start grabbing beowulves and chucking them at her in attack. Ruby is hard pressed but manages to win out in the end by repeated attacks. Finally the trailer ends with an alert from her scroll where you see the static portraits of the rest of team JNPR asking as if she's ok, and she smiling looks down the rest of the town full of grimm, confidently responds with "You guys better get here..." and she charges forward.

The mods don't really acknowledge the whole 'RT' part of RWBY/RT General. They just let it slide since hardly anyone talks about it in comparison to RWBY, and with that being an inactive show, they see fit to scrap the whole thing.
