It was a good twist because it reflects how most communist or anarchists that lead revolutions are from a privilegied class, or become a privilegied class anyway in the end. All hypocrities from failed systens.

Still would have prefered something to do with spirits or maybe Koh.

Reminder that the real issue in Republic City wasn't benders vs non-benders, it was a gap between the classes and Amon was just taking advantage of the anger of the lower class to fulfill his agenda because he had daddy issues.

>his talk about removing bender of the world is also false, he is just a nigga, its imposible for him alone make any bigger change. He can barely take over a City, much less the world.
>they are all giving power for him, a bender, making him the most powerful of society solely based in his bending.

Kek

/co/ is so stupid some times. He was also kicked out by the representant of spirits on Earth and balance, he doesn't have any metaphysical authority as he claimed.

Also, the fucking elected president right after was a non bender. What else would you want? Your movement is impossible to really remove bending from the world and you was a fool manipulated by a liar cult leader, that was also a bender using YOU to get power.

Equalism became a small band of multiple groups according with the creators, like neo nazis.
>>
>>84289359
The worst of it was when Tarrlok and the city council started cutting off power and making arrests against random nonbenders. But the council was debunked by the end of the season anyway.

Korra has daddy issues too.

Besides, discrediting Amon doesn't change the fact that his criticism of the benders was false. Non benders were largely defenseless against benders, and they had no voice in the government, which was all run by benders.
>>
>>84289475
And Tarrlok was only going after nonbenders because of the Equalists, which, while shitty, is not really an indication of a deeper prejudice ingrained in society. The guy was obviously willing to vilify anyone if it made him look good.
>>
>>84289254
>>84289359

This.

Actually the richest people usually are non benders. Sato, Cabbage Corp, many Earth Kings, the Beifongs on ATLA, Varrik...
>>
>>84289530
The governament being run by benders isn't a problem on many nations. I really don't see how it is so wrong, unless it was deliberatly chosen to exclude non benders.

Anyway, "Korra has daddy issues too" is stupid, Amon os son of a horrible gang leader, and is now fooling everyone to attain power.
>>
>>84289611
>I really don't see how it is so wrong, unless it was deliberatly chosen to exclude non benders.
It was just a poorly timed coincidence. Sokka and a presumably non-bender air acolyte were on the council at one point.

The only country so far that might have a preference for a bending leader is the Fire Nation, and if that is true it's likely changed by Korra's time.
>>
>>84289530
>and they had no voice in the government, which was all run by benders.

They did back in the earlier days of the URN. The air acolyte and Sokka were nonbenders at the least. That's 2 out of 5 and who is to say the other 3 were benders during that Yakone trial?
The ones on the current council just happened to all be elected benders from their respective countries except Tenzin.

If the plot had more time to work with it would have helped if they had fleshed out the motivations of Equalist characters like the Lieutenant, and given more reason for the group to disband at the end.

But as is Amon was just playing up to people's fears and using the benders as a scapegoat for all of the city's issues.
>>
>>84289468
It always surprises me how people forget that Amon said that he was a non bender and that SPIRITS gave him his powers TO REMOVE THE AUTHORITY OF THE AVATAR.

By demonstrating it in action to the public they think " wow the spirits sure put this guy in charge to change the world, if the spiritual world and balance are with him, he is probably right! ".

Him being a liar and not an agent of balance and spirits remove a good chunk of his justification and authority. Makes the members of his group actually rethink that THEY are the ones bringing imbalance to the world.

Its like you working with a guy that says that he is an agent of God, and that God said that he should be in charge...Just to know that he was powered all the time by demoniac magic, while being defeated by a priest.
>>
>>84289640
>Sokka and a presumably non-bender air acolyte were on the council at one point.

There's nothing presumable about it. The acolyte was a non bending air groupie. Prior to the events of s2 the only air benders left in the world were from Aangs bloodline.
>>
>>84290080
I just couldn't remember if the air acolytes were all 100% non-benders. I know it makes sense but for some reason I doubted myself.
>>
>>84290108
None of the air acolytes were ever shown to be benders of other elements, which in some form makes some sort of sense. Remember that a mindset or emotional state is an important part of elemental bending, which is why it was so tough for Aang to earthbend.

Chances are, if any of the acolytes ever were capable of bending the other elements, their mindset of wanting to emulate the air nomads eroded whatever mental/emotional state was needed to bend it.

I imagine that it would at least fragmentate them on some very obvious movements.

>there would he the people who deny it on every scale, saying that Amon was killed or jailed and that it was an impostor taking his place as water bender.

>there would be Equalists admiting that MAYBE they should allow self-hating benders in the group, if they want to help destroy bending on the planet and remove the power.

>there would be multiple groups not as radical as the others, probably the most numerous, who would be fine with more moderate politics and to make a party instead of a revolution for power.

All of these guys potentially hating each other and seeing them as traitors of the cause.

>>84290453
Not only that, you are making him the president with full power.

Wait, worst, you are a SOLDIER working for him. Now I can see what the lietnault felt, he probably saw multiple Equalists DIE for Amon, just to discover that he is putting a bender in power over them.
>>
>>84290253
The idea is valid. But the execution is terrible. There is no effort to invalidate the opposition nor is there any attempt to bolster their own side with merit and there is no middle ground except for a hobo who said "Eh, we're okay."

Korra uncovering that Amon was out to line his own pockets and rule a country like Long Feng = okay.

Amon being a secret psychic moonless bloodbending waterbender who is related to a crime boss and his brother is also cut from the same cloth and they get an info dump on that and things just work out without Korra being shown repairing the faith of the people in the government officials and establishing connections maybe even helping to promote a more hands-on government that doesn't get ruled over by people answering to their home countries instead of the actual place they are governing over = bad.
Getting airbending by punching while defending your boy toy = double bad.
Getting back all your powers and control of the Avatar State by just sitting back down and not showing that you are going to try and move forward instead of not just wallowing like how others did = triple bad.

The last could be somewhat mended if she walked back from the cliff and did a monologue of "I've got to try. Rest up, tomorrow's another day."
There. She's rejected the route Tarrlok and Amon took, reached her lowest point and still wants to keep on moving, plus she's not viewing life through the Avatar idea - she's "free."

God, I still can't look at her face, she's so goddamn stupid.

Why Aang's successor had to be such a hopeless cretin? Couldn't she be just a little clever?
>>
>>84291279
If she was a little clever then the rest of her teammates and associates would be unnecessary. And since we need a Team Avatar and Friends that would be counter-productive.
>>
>>84291279
They were trying to make her the Anti-Aang. Whereas Aang was proficient in Airbending but had to train hard in the other three elements, was physically a pushover but made it up by being clever and resourseful. Korra was proficient in every element other than air, was tough as shit but fucking dumb as a brick. I mean, it could work to have that sort of character but goddamn did the "DUMB AS A BRICK" part get emphasized too damn much till the end.

Daily reminder Korra cut off the spiritual connection to all past Avatars and has thus doomed her successor to not be able to hear any other voice of wisdom but her stupid ass.

>>
>>84291337
It's not even just that she was dumb, because it's not like Aang was some sort of genius. It's that she was totally inept, while Aang could always make shit work. The White Lotus did a terrible job of preparing her to be the avatar, while the air nomads did a comparably great job of raising Aang. Korra pretty much never knew what to do, nor could she even begin to guess. Nearly every time she did make a decision, it was either wrong or very poorly thought out. Meanwhile, Aang is friends with everyone, crushes his enemies, and pisses excellence. He beat the strongest fire bender in the world at his fucking apex, as a child. Korra couldn't even beat an amateur (prodigy though he may be) air bender while in the avatar state.

Korra was supposed to contrast Aang's perfection, but they went too far. She became unbelievable as a character due to her gross incompetence and perpetual weakness.

She essentially gave all her trust to Unalaq after barely learning about his and her dad's issues and immediately did everything he asked as a "spirit mentor" no questions asked. She's indirectly responsible for Unalaq letting Vaatu out as well as recklessly engaging him in the Big Dumb Kaiju Fight that didn't actually need to happen (thanks Jinora) and it was all reckless rushing into things that she never once tried to patch up cause "muh Red Lotus!"

>>84291481
If that's the case then why the hell did they keep calling upon her for all their internal conflicts as a peacekeeper?

>If someone was able to call up the Founding Fathers of the United States of America, would anyone in this current government listen to them completely?

The Founding Fathers aren't divinely mandated beings blessed with concrete mystical abilities no one else can do, anon.
>>
>>84291590
>Korra couldn't even beat an amateur (prodigy though he may be) air bender while in the avatar state.

To quote Zaheer, "You can't fight me and the poison at the same time!"
>>
>>84291337
Not like they'd really need it anyway.

The world changed so much between the end of the 100 year war and the end of the Earth Empire that most advice any previous Avatars besides Korra and Aang would be completely out of context.

That is to say, if you actually look at when the previous avatars were helpful, it's situations where they had a direct perspective on the problem. e.g. Roku was helpful because he was there with Sozin began the war and had dealt with Koh, etc. Aang was helpful because he had faced Yakon. Wan was helpful because Korra was dealing directly with spirits from the age before the avatar existed.

But what is the next one going to have to deal with? The free exchange of spirits between the two worlds, increasingly powerful and expanding technology, tension between bending and non-bending classes, etc. All stuff that only Korra and Aang's perspectives would matter for, and stuff that Korra has the most experience with.

There's a reason that the most helpful previous incarnation for both series was the avatar immediately preceding the current one--they are the one who was around when whatever problem the current is dealing with started. Being able to talk to Kiyoshi or Roku is probably not going to be all that helpful to the Avatar after Korra.

And it's not like the lives won't build back up again, just like they did with Wan.
>>
>>84291590
The comet was boosting Aang as well. Plus the fight was structured to be deeper than the surface level. Aang could have ended the fight at any time even without the Avatar State, but he was wrestling with the ideas of airbending he grew up with.

Korra had a Deus Ex Metallica poison in her and thought her father was killed right before her and didn't know the fate of the airbenders nor her friends who were sent to retrieve them from their exchange. She was off while Zaheer just needed to play keep-away.

But yeah she messed up too much in other situations.
>>
>>84291614
>The Founding Fathers aren't divinely mandated beings blessed with concrete mystical abilities no one else can do, anon.

How does being the best classic element mover around translate into chief mediator and knowing the best course of action? No one in Korra's time was asking for Korra's help unless they intended to use her for their own personal ill-gotten gain.
>>
>>84291682

That would be fun.

If they were manifested suddenly today, they'd be very unpopular, booed away, called racist, and demands would be made to torch the constitution and bill of rights.
They might even be called terrorists, with various governors, senators, and reps would be asking for them to be arrested.

despite some rich nonbenders, there were plenty of nonbenders in poverty as well, most likely the majority of poor people.

With bending alone a bender can have much more opportunity, which may be responsible for some anger. There is also the danger they represent; let us remember that the gangs that were terrorizing the streets were composed of benders. The fact that Hiroshi Sato's wife was killed by a bender is perhaps to show us his motivations may be the same for many people as well. They could have explained better what exactly happened to the nonbenders to distrust benders, but you can get some out of it: Many years of gangs of benders doing whatever the fuck they want and killing nonbenders, and the government (ruled by a council of benders) didn't do shit about it, and when nonbenders decided to act, instead of trying to hear them, they go full psycho and take their rights.

That's a simple issue of demographics. There always will be more nonbenders in poverty because benders make up a small minority of people. Without knowledge of poverty rates it's a meaningless argument to make.

Personally I think it should have turned out that Amon was just another gangster using identity politics to give his gang war a veneer of legitimacy.

Nah, Trump's much more of a prick. Amon was at least trying to do the right thing, albeit through that vile shit called "Socialism". Trump is just an attention whore and con-man troll who has a surgically induced comb-over.

Trump is the Eric Cartman of politicians: a rude, crude, stupid sociopath and narcissist who only does "good" things so he fuck people over for his own gain.

Different guy, he's still a more attractive option than Hillary, if only barely.
>>
>>84293725
Can you give us some examples as to why Trump is like the way you described him?
>>
>>84288837
It was a stupid twist because it failed to address his argument at all, in no way explains how he could debend people, and suddenly made him drop like half his IQ points to blatantly bend in front of his followers.
>>
>>84293754
Are you literally asking him to literally explain why Trump is literally literal!?
>>
>>84293783

Except they did explain, he apparently had OP bloodbending that could fuck your chi up worse than Ty Lee's pokes in the back.

Benders would logically have a major advantage in society. They can do a lot more than a normal person, with no disadvantages.

Inequality is inevitable in a society where a chunk of the population is just plain superior.
>>
>>84289530
>and they had no voice in the government, which was all run by benders.
This brings up another question:

Why the fuck were there two Water Tribe representatives on the council?

The United Republic was a contested area between the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom that became independent. Neither Water Tribe has any claim to it.

Tenzin really shouldn't, either.
>>
>>84293800
Not at all. They just tell you he has Bloodbending and we're supposed to accept that that enables him to debend people. Somehow.
>>
>>84293868

That's literally EXPLAINING, though you bulb. It may be a stupid reason, but it's still an explanation nonetheless.

If it can be used to heal internal injuries, then it should be able to cause internal injuries.

Mike, get back to writing your autofellatio book.
>>

I think he is a bigger threat than Hillary, as Hillary is an enemy that can be confronted and beaten, while Trump will destroy the Republican Party utterly and prevent them from ever "winning" again.

>>84293754
Let's see here:
>He's tried to force people off of their land.
>Brags about married women he's fucked and thrown out like a classless jackass jock bully.
>Whines and cries like a petulant child when things don't go his way.
>Is a massive hypocrite on campaigning, as he says that threatening to not endorse him after "making an oath to support him if he won" disqualifies them from ever holding office again, even though he did it himself a few months back and threatened to go third party if they didn't kiss his ass.
>Constantly makes vulgar and childish comments, like his "blood from her wherever" about Megyn Kelly, and bragging about his dick size on stage.
>Knows nothing about foreign policy, the economy, domestic policy, how to run a campaign, or the Constitution.
>Knowingly hires illegal aliens to run some of his businesses, as he doesn't have to pay them as much, nor their medical fees.
>Defrauds people using shitty scams like Trump University.
>Has connections to the mob.
>Has connections to the Clintons and Soros spanning decades.
And so on.

Only thing is, why would your powers be tied to some kind of spleen or whatever inside your body? It'd be like Superman's flight being tied to his feet.
>>
>>84288837
It's a good twist because it reflected how most revolutions are composed of unthinking fuckwits who don't know or care about what they're actually fighting for and are just following a persona

If the persona is broken, they instantly stop caring, because they never had a well formed opinion in the first place besides "i'm angry and feeling oppressed, this guy is like me, and also angry, and at the same stuff too oh golly"

No parallels to every single presidential candidate in the past two decades intended

>It'd be like Superman's flight being tied to his feet.
But part of his invulnerability is tied to his bioelectric aura.

>Superman's flight being tied to his feet.

Everyone knows his flight comes from his floatorial muscles.

Not gonna lie, both of those pitches sound like they could have just as beat and unique of a setting and stories as ATLA did. Shame the plot synopsis shoehorns in villains to stop as the main focus instead of just a natural exploration of how the world is the way it is so uh, neither I guess.
>>
>>84293938

That's different from something like a kinesis somehow being blocked because your kidney was damaged. Sure, having your brain fried would sensibly disable it, but that's attack a normal "source" of such power.
>>
>>84293885
Geniuses sounds pretty good, though really, you don't need villains for a good story. Why not instead focus on the interaction between the Geniuses and their Muses? Do they fight sometimes? How do their emotional states affect each other? Is it possible for a good person to have a malevolent Muse, or the other way around? And where did Muses come from? Are they natural, or were they given to certain humans, and if so by who? For what purpose?

This.
Fuck benders and their magical powers. If anything, both shows showed that non-benders always get fucked by the others.
See the cabbage man? Yeah.

Except they made it blatantly clear that non-benders were in fact oppressed and treated as lower class citizens. The show made it clear that it needed to be addressed, but wasn't smart to realize that they gave that they gave it to the wrong side and the writers wrote themselves in a corner. It was lazy writing, and nothing more.
>>
>>84290453
That's literally a Dave Chapelle skit, anon.
>>
>>84295714
It was the benders being shown doing the shit jobs or having to resort to crime to make ends meet though.
