I thought it was pretty good.

It was rushed because of the cancellation.

I honestly don't hate the finale. It could have been better though. He should have made a third season.

Did you like the way the writers wrote Dipper as a character?

Was Dipper hypnotized by the TV toward the end of "Candy Monster"? It seemed out-of-character for Dipper to be that easily distracted.

The only problem I had with the finale was Stan in general. He honestly felt out of character in some scenes.
He seemed too unsure of how the characters were preparing to fight Bill , even though he's familiar to the witchcraft of Gravity Falls.
He also pretty much sabotaged one of the sure ways to defeat Bill over bickering with his brother. While yeah, he does defeat Bill in the end, I think there could've been better ways to unintentionally have the cipher wheel not work.
Otherwise, it was a solid finale.

Honestly I'd say the entire show was pretty fantastic. I'd definitely put it in my top 10 cartoons of the 10's, maybe even top 5 (unless we get a ton more kickass ones from now till 2020).

The only parts of the show I have to criticize are most of the episodes between ToTS and the finale. The Stanchurian candidate was pretty good, but I felt like most the others were eh. The other criticism is that a lot of the community is cancerous, but not much you can do to change that.

I think the show would have been a lot better with three seasons, and with that it almost certainly would have been top 5 for me. Other than that though, I don't think there's much to criticize.

Instead of being some sort of incomprehensible nightmare, Weirdmageddon turned out to just be everything in ruins with some flying ears and giant feet all over the place. Bills Henchminions literally did almost nothing except for get their collective asses kicked by a shack in under minute. And to top it all off, more time could have been spent playing with Weirdmageddon if an entire episode wasn't dedicated to getting Mabel out of Mabel-land. No I get it, I've been around since the show started, I remember /co/ loved her at first but then they (the writers) failed to have her learn to be less selfish and change despite signs that she might for example in Sock Opera. I think what really happened is a combination of not wanting to criticize her for some odd reason plus also losing interest in her, the focus was instead on Dipper, Stan, to a lesser extent and not well Ford.

In The Last Mabelcorn legitimate criticisms of her character comes up, like wanted to be seen as good which isn't really good, they torpedo those criticisms which does the character a disservice, in in a comedy those flaws are what make a character interesting as is working to overcome them.

Flaws can make any character interesting, perfection is hard to make for anything interesting unless in itself is the part of the joke. Thing is Mabel not only showed little signs of overcoming her weaknesses or flaws but seemed uninterested in ever admitting or showing she had any consciously. You may have gotten a few "i'm sorry for x" but this sometimes went on to be repeated or was something totally ineffectual she never really payed for.

When the show shifted gears to focus more on mystery and the overarching plot, the writers had trouble knowing how to handle a character who is difficult to adapt to such a narrative. I used to wonder from time to time whether Alex had like, a horrible depressive episode between the production of s1 & 2 that made him give up on the show. I mean back in '12-'13 the show appeared to be really ambitious, and the filler episodes were entertaining enough that the lack of plot movement could be forgiven. But then S2 came along, had almost as much filler and only pushed the big promising plot that S1 hinted toward forward just a smidge before Hirsch voluntarily threw in the towel and gave up. When people first started guessing it might be an ARG many groups from here and elsewhere (Facebook, reddit, tumblr) made expeditions to Oregon to find it and had fun but nothing at all was found. Some people got very competitive about info and clues are even wanting to sabotage other groups.

Multiple people here also posted as "Bill" presumably hoping we'd think it was Alex posting as Bill like in the AMA with clues but at least some of them confessed to being 100% bullshit and it seems likely all were bullshit.

This and no word from Alex led people to believe we were just being fucked with. We still could be because it's just TMoGF's word. Even Alex has played pranks on here before.

Now it's not impossible that clue to some contest or something (maybe there's no statue hunt but you can win a statue prop or some shit) might be released with Journal 3 or later official merchandise someday.

People also wondered if Disney would be involved in a real scavenger hunt in the wilderness in case someone gets hurt.

I admit it would be cool I just wouldn't count on it. Maybe when later stuff gets released something will come up though.

I think what really rubs people the wrong way here is how overt Mabel was in her upsetment. She didn't look grieving, she looked like someone who wants everyone to know she's grieving and feel bad. Really passively-agressive.

Pissed off this wasnt used

The finale was all over the place. First episode of it was fantastic. Second episode just kinda happened. Third episode started off eh, became great right after all the mech stuff was done and they had to for real deal with Bill, and then had a cop out ending that kinda soured an otherwise clever and cool way to finish Bill off.

The biggest problem wasn't so much the finale itself as it was just the rushed plot of season 2 and 3 jammed together. We didn't get enough time with Ford or good build up to anything.

It really is notable that the entire narrative revolves around Dipper pretty exclusively. It's his curiosity and drive that moves pretty much the entire narrative. He's the one who finds and utilizes the journals, and that's the axis around which the entire story moves. Mabel only ever starts mundane subplots or is acting as Dipper's sidekick in a story that's ultimately about him.

It's really a waste of a character that started off really strong and had the potential to form a really good team with her brother. I think it's most telling that ALL the narration in the first and last episode is exclusively from Dipper, because the long running story really is all about him.
