A shit ton of (arguably) good action cartoons got unceremoniously canceled in the early 2010's for a number of reasons (Sym-Bionic Titan, Avengers:EMH, GL:TAS, Beware the Batman, Young Justice, Motorcity, Tron Uprising, GI Joe Renegades, etc.). Even Korra got pushed off the air and had its last few seasons online-only. Literally the only action shows that were still in production and not a comedy were TMNT 2012, and that was (and still is) on constant hiatus, and the god-awful Marvel cartoons, so it's fair to say that the future of action cartoons on network TV look pretty fucking murky and everyone's hesitant in investing themselves into it by fear of getting cancelled or silently brushed under the rug by network meddling.

Hopefully Voltron will set a good example and more action show creators will turn toward services like netflix for funding.

The show was massively overbudget and the network wanted Genndy to make it something different than what it was. More like a little kids show. He wouldn't budge. The team he had also had massive creative differences and all disagreed on what direction the show should go in. No one was meshing.

When a whole team is full of creative differences, the network is trying to make you turn the show into something you don't want it to become, and the show is really fucking expensive, it's dead before the first season is over.

Just like SBT.

Somewhere, somehow, "toys" began as a major rumor, despite the fact the show would have been able to have 1,000 types of toys if that was the real reason it was cancelled. The only aspect of "toys" that would have been an issue was the fact the show was being watched by older kids and teenagers instead of little boys that would buy more toys in the first place.

Genndy seems like he's pretty attached to the look of the traditional process, I don't think he'd let that happen to us.
Craig McCracken actually likes Flash (which is why he's used it exclusively on his shows for over a decade) but that's because he knows how to utilize it in a positive way, him and Titmouse are just about the only people who have any idea how to make the tweening look good.
Speaking of which, this reboot having Titmouse animation wouldn't surprise me, but I'd imagine they'd aim for a traditional look here like they do for Venture Bros and Superjail.

Are you for real? The reason it didn't work in Gravity Falls is exactly because they had a fuckton of established plot points that went absolutely nowhere. All Jack did was Kenshiro around and help people. After the first three episodes, there's absolutely no continuity aside from Scotsman. It's basically a "What if?" of popular action movies where they replaced the hero with a samurai.

Agreed, but when people complain about Flash they're not talking about uses of it where it's still hand-drawn (like Superjail or Harry Partridge), they're referring to the tweened look in general. ToonBoom can do the same thing but Flash is still more widely used for that style.
Samurai Jack should avoid that, because while things stylized for it (like Wander Over Yonder or Motorcity) can sometimes be more fluid than traditional animation made on the same (smaller) budget, Samurai Jack's timing and artistry benefit from the traditional process. If CN is smart they'll treat this as "prestige programming" and put it up for awards, and hopefully that means they're putting a decent amount of money into it.

Tweening is a nickname for inbetweeing. In the context of computer animation, it's a path you set between two poses that the computer automatically fills in for you. It ends up lookin unnatural and lazy most of the time.

It basically means that the characters are puppets in the computer that they drag around, with some custom flourishes as the scene requires.
Traditional animation is frame by frame drawings. Believe it or not Steven Universe, Clarence, OTGW, etc. are still drawn and inked on paper, scanned in, and colored digitally.

They can be overrated, desu. If you can draw well, a regular tablet doesn't hinder that after some time getting to it. Some artists prefer being able to see the entirety of the screen at all times without their drawing hand laying over it. Cintiqs can also be tricky to calibrate in terms of color accuracy, but I think they've gotten better about that by now.
