Everyone on /co/ likes to recommended series only but with original Venom and with a lot of characters you're gonna man have to jump around multiple titles and issues, but I'd recommend you make it easier by purchasing the trades: Birth of Venom, Vengeance of Venom, Maximum Carnage, Venom: Lethal Protector, Venom: The Enemy Within, and the new Carnage Classic.
