Lets read some cool comics
From Howard Chaykin and friends
This is Time2
Come Along
>>83996297
That cover is really fantastic.
Bummer that Alt codes don't work on this website.
i am overwhelmed with the trash chaykin is throwing at the reader so 10/10 adaptation
this is from when times sq was a shithole right?
Went to the shop today only to find the only book I was getting this week was delayed.
>>83996445
Yeah. Pre-Giuliani.
>>83996297
not saying "it's time to read some cool comics"
fuckin UGHlooks cool tho, lurkin
>>83996841
You are right anon I feel ashamed for missing the obvious pun there.
I am not even going to try here since I missed my Time to shine
The End
It's better than City of Tomorrow but you can't help noticing the same themes, archetypes, character designs and subplots that AF! had.
This comic is underrated as fuck.
Thanks, OP.
bumping to read.
bumping for others.

>Howard Chaykin
ugh
>>84005089
Howard Chaykin was the third most critically acclaimed comics writer of the 80s behind Frank Miller and Alan Moore and THE most influential artist of his time.
Of course you wouldn't know that because you're retarded and have never read anything before 1999 and think modern Chaykin was anything like early Chaykin.
>>83997620
Chaykin uses the same style in all his old work.
This is probably the most Howard Chaykin comic ever made.
>>83996297
Time^2 is still good, but I can see the trajectory from Flagg past Time^2 to Barracuda.
>>84008896
wat.
>>84010683
Chaykin did a lot of declining over the years, and the most horrible thing I've seen him do was a brief run as artist on Punisher. One issue? I don't recall.
He seems to have recovered a bit or just started to give a shit again.
>>84012050
Was that during the fagtion run?
>>84012205
Should be Ennis, it's the first part of the last Barracuda arc.
>>84012866
That must have been like 1 issue because I don't even remember that.
>>84013291
Yeah, it was the first issue of the Long Cold Dark arc. I do remember the art was really weird in that issue.
>>83996297
Please post more Chaykin OP, this was awesome.
>>84017932
I have done the Chaykin that I enjoy at some point or another.
>>84017932
AMERICAN FLAGG! HERE:
>>83864358
>>83866715
>>84017932
>>84018638
He didn't even do that much work in his prime.
>>84012050
He didn't really even "decline" though. He left comics, came back, and just completely sucked. There wasn't really an inbetween stage.
bumpski
Was Chaykin the most influential comic artist ever? Or at least has anyone been as influential since?
>>84005295
So what should a retard like me read to see the beauty of Howard Chaykin (ugh)? American Flagg? What else?
>>84028271
American Flagg!, Time2, Twilight, and maybe The Shadow if you don't mind seeing a "modernization" of a classic character. Less essential, but still worth reading are Blackhawk, World of Krypton (art only), and MAYBE Black Kiss is you want to see a western take on "serious" pornography that doesn't use fucking fairy tale characters or whatever but is still just as fucked up as Moore's take on the genre for different reasons.
>>84028390
As has been pointed out in the thread, Chaykin did not do that much work before retiring and then eventually coming back after he forgot how to draw and lost interest in writing.
reading bump.
I remember American Flagg and the remake of The Shadow
>>84028390
His original Dominic Fortune stories are semi-decent. Just avoid the awful MAX version he did after he came back to comics.
I don't personally mind new Chaykin and am kinda interested in that Image book he has coming out.
>>84028390
Read the Shadow for sure it is spectacular (and who really cares if it is different it is The Shadow)
>>84028624
It's so weird to see The Shadow in a non-WWII era setting.
>>84029716
Why is it that The Shadow never worked outside of that era when other characters from that same era still worked in later eras?
>>84028624
>The Shadow with an uzi
People sperged out over this back in the day, and I can sort of see their point. It just doesn't fit the character.
>>84031079
He had a machine gun, too.
The panel work in this is blowing me the fuck away.
I highly recommend Batman: Dark Allegiances, Migthy Love, The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow, Satellite Sam and Midnight Men.
>>84033975
From an art standpoint it's one of Chaykin's best.
>>84012050
Don't mind me, just posting some of the worst pages from Chaykin's single issue of PunisherMAX
>>84034638
Midnight Men is probably his most underrated comic. Almost no one ever talks about it, but it's a solid action book.
>>84035142
>>84035191
>dat thalidomide hand
>>84035218
This one isn't so bad, aside from Frank turning into a melting slab of ham
