how the fuck does he not know what happened with doomsday
>>
>>83975962
Y'know what they should do? Replace the idea of Superman's costume with it being more of a uniform. That way he could have multiple ones. He could wear the Rebirth version, the classic one, the DC One Million suit, the solar-proof one from the end of All Star, and he could alternate between them (whether at random or in specific circumstances).
>>
>>83976043

He was born during convergence and no one told him about the dd debacle in [re flashpoint earth
>>
>>83975111
what are you talking about lois, he fought him lots of times. even stomped with some backup in infinite crisis.
>>
I know this is basically a rehash of the reign of the supermen but fuck if I'm not interested how they're gonna get 52 supes back because they're teasing the fuck out of him t othe point I'll get blueballs if he doesn't come back.
>>
>>83976202
Yeah, maybe in 2 or 3 years, they're going to milk Superdad dry before that.
>>
>>83976202
He is gonna come back when they'll need to fight Manhattan, so around two years from now
>>
>>83976202
Yeah, this is basically The Death and Return of Superman for the New 52 continuity.

I suspect the new Eradicator will end up being New 52 Superman (since the original Eradicator was the original Superman) and he'll be reintroduced into post-Rebirth continuity in a different role than just "Superman".
>>
>>83975197
Considering the Moore references going around here, maybe the depowered Kent (or hell maybe even the supposedly post-crisis Superman) is actually the Supes from "Whatever happened to the Man of Tomorrow".
>>
>>83976310
Worst theory in the thread.
>>
>>83976356
Hey I'm not saying I like the idea.
>>
>>83976360
I'm saying it's so improbable that it's ridiculous.
>>
>>83976230
>fight Manhattan

You know, I still think Doc's not gonna be the big bad at the end of all this. He's either being manipulated or is just an observer.

I'd love the Empty Hand to come back, it's 99% likely just gonna be OC Donut Steel bad guy.
>>
>>83976376
Yeh, probably. I was just thinking of Supermen who had been depowered, and remembered that this version also had a powered son named Jonathan.
>>
>>83976383
Didn't they even say that Manhattan's "working for someone else" or something like that?
>>
>>83976444

Johns said he's an antagonist not a villain
>>
>>83975463
Do people like this trash? Superman under Jurgens is power level wankery. Fuck this man does not get Superman.
>>
>>83975451
>even /co/
That would imply /co/ has an anti-DC bias when it is in fact one of the few places with mostly positive DC talk
>>
>>83975295
>having to tell us how great Superman is
Oh fuck off, Jurgens. Why don't you show him being great instead of a dick instead.
>>
>>83976466
I never got people like you. Possibly the single most physically powerful character in comics actually displays some of that power and you all freak the fuck out crying like the comic suddenly turned into a dbz bait thread.

I hate you.
>>
>>83976466
Jurgens back in the 90s had a run on Superman where Superman was often accused of "not acting much like Superman".

So this is par for the course for Jurgens. Expect his Superman to be a little... "off", behavior wise.
>>
>>83976484
Not really. The Rebirth storytimes are the first time in years that non-Batman DC storytimes have consistently hit 100s of replies and had active vocal feedback and people both discussing the issues in general and reacting to the individual pages.
>>
>>83976497

>>
>>83976608
>because the usage of that word implies you both
what the fuck are you on about? that's literally what I was referring to. the anon (you?) was talking about me and the comic writer, saying both of us don't get superman, yet he does.
>>
>>83976608

Superman is a simple of hope but a Brute when he needs to be. None of you understand Superman
>>
>>83976497
>I never got people like you.
Because child you haven't read enough Superman. Pre Crisis Superman or Superman under Morrison/Waid isn't about just punching people hard. In fact pre crisis Superman didn't feature punching things hard most of the time. He was saving people from tsunami or earthquakes or Alien germs or doing things that didn't just show his "power levels" by punching villain of the week really hard. A lot of his villain gallery was silly pranksters type that used to come up with this plan or that and Superman used his brains. They were charming, there's nothing charming or Super about this. Every modern writer is Byrne lite that don't go to the heart of the character and don't use their imagination. Probably because they've never read enough good Superman comics.
>>
>>83976656
I'm just saying that it doesn't have to be one or the other.

You can find the balance.

..and yes I fucking get superman. It's the mongoloid of an anon that I don't get.

Literally the two writers that understand Superman the least.

No matter whether you enjoy Morrison's Action Comics or Waid's Birthright or not, those are BY FAR the two most out of character """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""Superman"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" stories ever published.

I can't make heads or tails of this shit. All I know is that given that the solicits make no mention of Doomsday in the September issues that means that this won't be drawn out for long.

I'm expecting him and Post Crisis to be the same guy somehow. I doubt they'd make him "fake" considering then they'd also have to explain the doubles of Lois, Hal, Booster Gold, etc.

>>
>>83978894
Maybe he remembers from the first time Superman fought him and died? The current stuff pretends they didn't say it but the death and return of Superman still happened in the New 52 continuity just not in the same way we saw it.
>>
>>83978668
No. He's going to be the real Superman and return with the trunks.
>>
>>83975197
>>83975340
So essentially whomever human Clark is, he's not actually the CK that was in Action for Morrison's run, etc., etc.?
>>
>>83978953
The reaction you'd get for that is going to be a roller coaster. Are you aware how pissed you'd make the Post-Crisis fags who think New 52 Superman is Satan? They even hate Morrison's Action Comics for making Superman "edgy" when in reality he's not at all and Clark showing a bit of an attitude sometimes in his Superman persona is even more classic Superman then the Christopher Reeves Superman they love so much.
>>
>>83975218
I fucking love sanctimonious, grandstanding Lex. It's like watching Patrick Stewart whenever he intentionally chewed the scenery while reciting Shakespeare on ST:TNG.
>>
>>83975478
In Reign of Doomdays, Lex had gotten DD from Darkseid when he was President, and made a bunch of clones, which he upgraded so that they had particular talents to go against Steel, Superboy, Supergirl, etc., and there was a ship designed as a trap for all of them, it was the side story to the Black Ring story line, but they were more intelligent. It's been a while since I read it, the RoDD story line was meh, the Black Ring I'd re-read.
>>
>>83979032
>Are you aware how pissed you'd make the Post-Crisis fags who think New 52 Superman is Satan?
Why do you think I want that to happen so bad. It'll be glorious.
>>
>>83978983
What makes you say that? He still could be and he lost his powers or is lying just so he can start living a regular life as Clark Kent again instead of everyone knowing he's Superman.
>>
>>83975383
Shut the fuck up, Jimmy.
>>
>A dozen people in here are whining about Superman's over the top power levels.
>Actually reads the comic: Superman doesn't get the upper hand a single time and is actively asking Lex for help with the crisis.

I don't fucking get you guys.
>>
>>83979071
I'd rather us not go full Marvel with going out of our way to piss people off. The outrage model never worked for DC
>>
I'm kind of hoping Clark is actually alternate earth Clark Kent back from the Death of Superman. Meanwhile, the man Lois got together with and had a child with is actually the Eradicator and he just never realized it in that particular reality.
>>
>>83978364
>Will my parents be proud
>Is this a good death?
Nice plot.
>>
>>83975962
Not a bad >>83976098 concept although not too many.

I don't understand why, when he pulls the suit out of the drawer to go back to the classic suit, its suddenly missing the trunks.

In Convergence, he's wearing the classic uniform, trunks and all. In the first issue of the Lois & Clark mini-series that feeds into these re-births, he's also shown wearing the outfit. Obviously, he puts it away and starts to wear the black out-fit, but when he pulls out something to wear, other than DC Executive order #1 or whatever it is, why is it missing trunks.

I'm mean, I'm not one of these people that cares about it (although I do think given the blue boots, they really need something to break up the unitard look he's left with). But I do want my comics books to have some reasonableness. If they are going to spend, essentially, an entire issue on how Lex bought himself New 52 Superman's cape, which is actually a Kryptonian artifact if the last five years mean anything at all, then why can't they expand a few panels on this?
>>
>>83979118
I still want New52 Superman to return with the trunks. The first 10 issues of Morrison's Action Comics were the first things I read when I got into comics. So I'd still like him to end up being the real thing.
>>
>>83979139
Where does that leave New 52 Lois?
>>
>>83979142
I can see why you thought it was decompressed since you only read a single page.
>>
>>83976746
Well, since you are so good at special type effects, you must indubitably be extra special and, therefore, right, no?
>>
>>83978280
Classic Superman killed DD and then he, himself, died. The DDs that came after that was just cash grabs by DC via cloning, Apokolipis, Lex, lazy comic book writers, etc. etc.

>>83978042
Eddie Berganza had his first and only orgasm in the '90s and he associated the comic story lines from that era with all his bestest memories.
>>
>>83979076
The wording is very specific. "I had to do it to survive" or however he actually says it. I'm mean, I'm glad they have Jimmy in here and calling whomever this guy is on the shit from John's one shot story and the Truth yadda yadda run, but the panels between Jimmy and Clark that I was responding to make it sound like not.

For example, to answer you, Clark was depowered in some of these issues and he still acted in a self-less and heroic way, with limits obviously, so yes, he couldn't fly up and catch those two people, but there were other things he could other than just stand around as he was literally doing, and chatting with Jimmy.
>>
>>83979115
They've gotten used to a Superman that gets slapped around by E3 Atomica, et. al.
>>
Wasn't this story in Superman last week? How would've I been able to know it continues in an another book if I didn't happen to browse /co/ right now, goddamnit DC why do you keep doing this.
>>
>>83979480
No, Action Comics is doing a Doomsday arc and Superman is doing an Eradicator arc. No crossover yet.
>>
>>83979332
>Clark was depowered in some of these issues and he still acted in a self-less and heroic way, with limits obviously, so yes, he couldn't fly up and catch those two people, but there were other things he could other than just stand around as he was literally doing, and chatting with Jimmy.

>>
>>83978668
Superbro will return after Daddy Supes has had his time to shine in the spotlight. I don't understand how anyone of you could possibly think otherwise. It's like you thought Doc Ock would stay Spider-Man forever or that Jim Gordon would stay Batman forever. There's this thing called status quo that cape comics tend to adhere to.

>>83980630
Doommsday never killed Superman in New52. But, Doomsday did unleash a virus that almost caused Supes to transform into another Doomsday. He was able to remove the virus thanks to the rest of the Justice League.

It would be logical that if your hearing and eyesight are upgraded to a super level, your other senses ARE too, it's just that the writers are too useless to consider it something official

>>83975063

Was DC always this into "WTF IS GOING ON?!" stories pre-New 52? Or is this a more recent trend for them to intentionally confuse their readers?
>>
>>83981476
Yeah.

>>83981508
Pretty much always been a thing with DC. Comics in general.
>>
So what's the art rotation on this book gonna be?
>>
>>83979677
I've actually only read Jurgens Booster Gold second run stuff, that's my only real feel for him as a writer. I've read a few one off issues he wrote and they don't really stick out for me. I'm not a big fan of the era of Bryne through late 1990s except for a few things, so I'm sure I've read some Jurgens, nothing really comes to mind good or bad (except for the hair).
>>
>>83979766
Actually, he crossed over in all the Superbooks - even in one of the Supergirl books. But that story line was in Action and Superman.

>>83979820
DoS seems to be a Berganza decision. And they brought Jurgens in because he wrote the Convergence books and he was writing the Lois and Clark mini that followed the Convergence books. Those all sold well. I think Convergence was fine, Lois and Clark were so-so to sometimes decent or good, they've left a few loose ends that are just being dropped for this DoS stuff, so yes, this is all rethread and not too good so far on the Jurgens front.
>>
>>83979964
You strike me as a pearl clutcher.

>>83978668

>>
>>83978669
>>
>>83982288

>>
I am apparently in the minority but I liked this issue. It had a good mix of Super powered fighting and drama.

The positives:
>Lois concerned for Clark
>Supes and Lex working together
>Mystery of new Clark
>Superman actually fighting and trying to protect others

The negatives:
>Doomsday again
>>
>>83978983
I have no idea what the fuck is going on there. I doubt it'll be obvious. I figure they're going to pull a swerve and it'll be some crazy and/or weird and/or ridiculous shit.
>>
I actually really like this method of undoing the Lois outing Clark horseshit. Bring in another dimension's Clark that isn't Superman to make a spectacle and prove he's not. Then bring in other interdimensional versions of things to confuse Lex. Then remove all the interdimensional things by sending them back where they belong whenever Wally/Flash/Batman/JL/DC clashes with Manhattan. That way you're left with a prime universe where the public and Lex have no idea what to believe about who Superman is or about any of the other New52 horseshit.
>>
>>83975256
It's always nice to see them address the "why doesn't Superman just throw Doomsday into space?" argument.
>>
>>83982382
You're retarded. It could have been undone in one page via a magic user. Or have Clark use the Spyral machine Dick used.
>>
>>83979507
I think Vanilla is more about introducing the idea of the new Superboy more than anything else.
>>
>>83982388
This is him more flying Doomsday into space. Technically he could throw him into space. The problem is Supes would not know where Doomsday would end up and he would eventually find his way back to earth.
>>
>>83979677
Jurgens has always done that. His Superman never really acted like Superman.
>>
>>83980484
Superman fell out of the top 50 selling books before Rebirth. Sales were BAD. The worst in the character's entire history. If Rebirth is still selling above New 52 numbers in a year then New 52 Superman will never be the main Superman ever again.
>>
>>83980580
What does this have to do with "continuity wank"?
>>
>>83981158
I think it's just poorly drawn facial expressions.
>>
>>83982520
Couldn't that just be an issue with the depowered Superman story that was going on before Rebirth and not so much with the character himself? Hell, couldn't it have been people still mad about DC having a reboot and not so much with Superman himself?
>>
>>83982215
Oh, OK.
>>
>>83982244
Yeah, that was awkward lol.
>>
>>83982313
I'm guessing he's the new Eradicator.
>>
>>83982416
They could've just had Manhattan make everyone forget. I have no fucking idea why they didn't just do that.
>>
>>83982520
Superman has been consistently 30-40ks post-Busiek. It's not really New 52 Superman's fault nor any historic low. I'm not sure what you're talking about.
>>
CRAZY THEORY THAT'LL PROBABLY BE WRONG: What if the "new" guy is just Superman traveling into the past to make everyone think Clark's not Superman?
>>
>>83982654
Because unlike what >>83982382 is trying to force, this isn't an intentional cleanup arc. They actively want to tell this story for some reason. They think people actually want to read another huge status quo shift instead of normal Superman adventures.
>>
>>83982714
Why would Post-Crisis Superman aka "Clark White" do that for a completely different Clark that everyone thinks just died?
>>
>>83979144
Doctor Manhattan hates underwear (canon!) and rewrote reality so that superheroes don't wear them anymore.
>>
>>83982244

He:

Send doomsday to the end of time, it didn't lasted too long.

He also used 4 teleport devices to teleport him between those 4 teleport devices on a loop for the rest of time but Luthor or the Joker (?????) set him free, Superman already had his planet buster powers unlocked so Doomsday was no challenge for him at that point, he ended kidnapped by darkseid, died a couple times more, etc

He never got a total defeat, Superman just got stronger
>>
>>83975335
Superman killed Doomsday in DoS, then died from his own wounds. In their next meeting he sent Doomsday to the end of time where entropy was supposed to destroy him.
>>
>>83983646
I'm just saying, why would he do that unless he wants Kent's job or just wants people to stop calling him "Clark Kent" while he's flying around in his new onesie?
>>
>>83983673
>He also used 4 teleport devices to teleport him between those 4 teleport devices on a loop for the rest of time but Luthor or the Joker (?????) set him free

It was part of the Our Worlds At War crossover. President Luthor ordered Manchester Black's new Suicide Squad to free Doomsday to fight Imperiex. He and Superman actually fought together, up until Imperiex Prime burned Doomsday away down to a skeleton.

>>83975111
Stephen Amell has unleashed Doomsday as revenge for Arrows S4.
>>
>>83983810
I'm having an easier time embracing this costume than the previous New52 costume Jim Lee designed. It seems simpler and the blue hue looks more aesthetically pleasing. My biggest problem with the armor suit wasn't the collar or the armor lines. It was the wrist area that overlapped the too of Supes' hands. Made him look like tge suit was too big for him. Or some type of edgy teenager who thinks that sort of design looks cool. I could almost visualize blades popping out of that shit.

I don't mind a bit of action set piece for my Superman. I just pray to God they dial it back a bit and start getting to the real meat and tatters of the plot soon.

This has actually become my favorite of the Rebirth books, despite me being least-interested in it. Jurgens is usually mediocre as fuck, but this book is just kinda weird and action-packed and full of weird questions that I want answered. Reminds me of reading comics when I was a kid.

>>
>>83975533
So far the only books that seem to be doing interesting stuff or have "what the fuck is going on?!" moments are Batman, Superman, Action, and Flash.

WW, GLs, and Aquaman are doing a slow burn type shit or just being not at all interesting which even with 2 books a month will severely hurt these books.

Titans would be so much better if Brett Booth wasn't on it, god his art really fluctuates back and forth from good to god awful in the span of an issue.

Superman and Super-pile-of-ashes are the same guy, split apart during the reboot. Dr Oz. who's actually Myxyzptlk make Nu52perman from his essence so the rebooted world would still have a Superman. During the final conflict with Dr. Manhattan, Old Superman and New Superman will merge together and reset the DCU just enough to justify a line of mini-series and prequel books to establish a new status quo without completely rebooting everything.

Agreed - doubt you're around a day later but I've been out of town; surprised this thread is still around. I think the relationship between Jon and Lois (and all three of them) is a nice touch in the book, reminding me of the Lois/Clark/Chris dynamic from the last decade of the Pre-52 books.

>Doomsday again
And yeah, given they did a huge cross-over with him, and even featured the Super Doomsday concept in Morrison's Action run, this is absolutely something no one really wants or needs.
>>
>>83982520
There were problems with the writers/changes and excessive cross-overs. UNBOUND had excellent sales, all of them were in the top ten and the Deluxe HC and recent TP version also sold really well. Earth One GNs sell well.

American Alien and the Lois & Clark minis both sold reasonably well to really well. The L&C trade if they get their shit together and put it out before Super Sons will probably sell really well, or they should do a big deal about making lower priced ($2.99) reprints.

I'm not sure that this is endgame about fixing some of those issues, but I'm also not sure the recently deceased Super Bro is gone for good for purely commercial reasons.
>>
>>83983810
Blue black (which isn't quite in the image you referenced) would be better IF they really have a good reason to go against red boots (OTHER than my art, my changes prima donna BS).

>>83988735
I bought the Man of Tomorrow HC which was on sale at ONE of my Local LCSs, but then donated it to my local branch library that has the big GN section since they've been tending to buy mostly Bat books, HQ shit or Marvel. They don't even really buy anything other than Big 2 except for Saga or Walking Dead, which sucks. An entire generation of kids who don't pirate and can't afford to buy is not going to get any idea of what is actually out there.
>>
>>83992675
The sparks you saw at his death are what are going to give New 52 Lois the powers making her Super Woman (and apparently Lana got his brain) and you saw four arcs, I forget who else got what, with the suggestion that the one that just trails off the panel and into the gutter heads out all the way to China to hit New Super (Asian) Man.

>>83992596
I'll take your word for it, I have no desire to re-read those books. I know he was kept by Cadamus, and that Lex traded that off to Darkseid and it was brought back sans heartbeats (e.g. not a living thing), so we can disagree if it died or not.
>>
>>83999261
This is probably the most interesting version of whom Oz could be but I doubt it. Mxy was never unwilling to take credit for what he was doing and, sure he did disguise himself in front of Clark or Supes in some issues/arcs, but he wouldn't need a panel of TV sets to be able to view multiple parts of reality NOR would he need to be in a green Spectre-like outfit while he is by himself.

Reign of Doomsday (so so) and Black Ring. By Paul Cornell, these were released in 2011 so they were literally the last Superbooks before the reboot. In fact, they were coming out at the same time Flashpoint was coming out IIRC.

Like I said, I'm perfectly happy to take your word for it. Last thing I read with him was Reign of Doomsdays which I just read a year or so ago, and the Doomed cross-over. So I don't remember it, I just remember them talking about how they tinkered genetically and that everything you saw in the Cornell arc was a variation, not the original. I'm not saying it's confusing, I found him a tedious 'villain' - the way he was used in the DCAU on JL and, to a lesser extent in BvS as essentially a side show is fine by me.

And what you're essentially talking about is comic book death. So yeah, even less confusing.

Thanks. So you'll be doing Super Sons, I take it and the new Supergirl stand alone?

Super Sons, New Superman, Superwoman, Supergirl, and possibly Trinity and/or Justice League of America depending on how completest I want/am willing to be (especially if those end up being quality books). Basically covering Superman's return to comics. I might also upload the Lois & Clark mini now that I think of it. The list will be updated each Wednesday barring irl shit getting in the way. If any other Superman Rebirth titles (including minis or one-shots) come out I'll mirror those as well.

Miller would want too much money to give up his 'Miller World' schtick for even a small run. I wouldn't object if they offered to let Miller do a non-Elseworld (meaning not another Red Son type book) and let him continue another set of Earth One GNs (JMS at one point claimed he always wanted it to just be a trilogy but I'd definitely like to see a different take - except I doubt Miller would 'deign' to take up something someone else started.

why/how was eradicator ever a separate character?
>>
>>84028427
Did he actually say that?
>>
>>84029695
He has not specified the format yet.
>>
>>84029751
Damn.
>>
>>84028441
Eradicator was always a separate character. Originally during Byrne's Superman run (before Doomsday) The Eradicator was a machine created by an ancient, xenophobic cult of Kryptonians for the purposes of protecting Krypton's culture from alien influences. Superman found it while traveling in space and, not knowing what it was, brought it to Earth because he wanted something from his Kryptonian legacy. It tried to brainwash him into becoming it's "ideal" Kryptonian, so he was forced to destroy it, but during that arc it also created his Fortess of Solitude with Kryptonian technology and Superman kept the fortress. When Superman died part of the Eradicator's programming that was still inside the fortress became active again and tried to revive Superman. It formed a new body, which was the "Last Son of Krypton" guy during the Reign of the Supermen. He put Superman's real body inside the healing matrix at the Fortress. Then during the battle with Cyborg Superman, Eradicator/LSoK sacrificed himself to restore original Supes powers back to full.

After that the Eradicator programming still survived as some sort of machine-ghost and eventually possessed a dying human so there could still be an Eradicator running around trying to be a hero. He had his own book for about 10 seconds but the character never caught on and eventually just faded out because no one wanted to use him. I'm not really sure what his status was by the time that "Reign of the Doomsdays" story happened.
