>The spazzing out at the galla was his only bad moments.

I didn't get it at first, but after seeing it a second time I realized that it was because of the childhood trauma. He was talking about having knowledge without power and then had a PTSD moment where he recalled the time when he had knowledge without the power to defend himself from his father.

Not really. They break the color up. The Rebirth costume is awful because there's even less red breaking up the blue of the rest of the suit than the nu52 suit.

Behold, the properly designed Superman suit in all its glory.

>You can fire your arrows from the Tower of Babel, but you can never strike god!
>>
>>83948260
Not that anon, but the classic design is clearly based on the old circus strongman, trunks, wide neck. And since the floating timeline means Supes would have started at some point in the 90s, there's really no reason as to why his mother would have made him a costume based on a design from 60+ years ago. There's nothing wrong with having a red belt to break up all the blue, but the trunks just don't work anymore

If Superman is supposed to be as boy scouty as people say he's supposed to be, then wouldn't the outfit with less red in it make more sense? Not to the extent of the Rebirth redesign, but the N52 design hit a great balance of blue and red. The cape was fucking stupid, though. It needed the yellow.

Eh, DC has plenty of diversity in their comics, they just don't really advertise it and pat themselves on the back for it like Marvel.

>>
>>83948837
You basically need some red around the hip region to balance the whole thing out. Elsewise you just end up with the MoS outfit, which terribly needs something around the waist.

That's because the MoS doesn't have a belt, it has a weird construct with a belt buckle in the middle, not a belt. I suck at paint otherwise I'd show you.

>The 'no trunks' fags' argument always boils down to, "It looks ridiculous!"
Because it does, it make no sense, aesthetically or artistically unless it's put on a period piece or surreal story.

The ones with "trunks" look horrible, the only thing that looks worse than trunks is when they want to force the trunks as something else.

The only reason people complain about "breaking the color" ONLY with Superman, is because they're used to the classic design, nothing more.

Did you guys forget that the suit Clark wears isn't an actual super suit/costume? It's the traditional garb of his people. Which just so happened to be in the scout ship, perfect fit for an adult Kal.
But really, they designed it with the intention that it wasn't just a random costume he made, it's supposed to look like as if it's traditional clothing from Krypton. Zod wears the same. Jor-El wears the same. Everyone on Krypton pretty much wore a version of this body suit.
The trunks look shitty. Deal with it. The suit actually is blue too and BvS did a better job of conveying that colour, it just looks dull in MoS. Also dat bulge.
>>
>>83949049
I don't care, I know how Superman is supposed to dress up and the red trunks belong there.
I'm more forgiving of Batman wearing all black though.
>>
>>83949038
>The only one that looks good is the 3rd one. And the excess of red lines fucks it up.
Disagree. Middle looks great too.
>The ones with "trunks" look horrible, the only thing that looks worse than trunks is when they want to force the trunks as something else.
I disagree. It's a nice compromise.
>The only reason people complain about "breaking the color" ONLY with Superman, is because they're used to the classic design, nothing more.
To be fair, there aren't really a whole lot of designs like Superman's really. And Batman has a similar design too. There's a reason why you don't see a whole lot of designs without the underwear something around the waist. Shit, why does Superman get this all the time when Batman doesn't? It's even less plausible that Batman would wear underwear on the outside. At least HE'S supposed to be a more serious character.

>>83949038
>Middle one looks great, the 3rd one looks horrible with the red in there.
I think the last one would look much better if the colors wrapped all the way around to the 'buckle' in the middle.

About the only thing I don't like about any of those designs is the brighter yellow. If they'd just muted it a bit, some of them would be fine.

>>83949049

Not that there's anything wrong with diversity, as these are all good characters. It's all in the approach really.

Red shorts are literally the worst, but the design on the right is A okay. Rebirth Superman has the best design though, I just wish they'd color his boots red and run with that across all media

In complete honesty, I think Rebirth Superman is awful and it doesn't even fit pre-Flashpoint Superman really.

>the awful darker colors all around

Guh. I would've taken nu52 Supes but without the armor. Just a nice cloth design and some minor improvements like fixing the cuffs and the collar.

>Batman doesn't wear underwear anymore either.
"Anymore." He'll go back to wearing underwear eventually.

>See? Breaks the color just fine, no need for red, no need for corset lines, no need for trunks.
I legitimately think that looks awful, just judging from the concept. The suit definitely needs something red around that region.

Yeah, Marvel does it for stuns, DC doesn't, say for every "mansplaining" wonder woman line, you get 3 whole new progressive Marvel characters.

Kaldur'ahm got a pretty big push back before the nu52 thanks to YJ. Shame they did nothing with him after the reboot. That was so stupid.

Cass Cain was pretty much THE Batgirl for most of the 00's and a lot of people still think she's the best Batgirl.

John Stewart was THE GL for much of the 00's thanks to the JL cartoon.

Midnighter's been picking up some steam lately too.

And of the ones I mentioned, Jaime Reyes is pretty much the defacto Blue Beetle nowadays.

>>83949230
>Underwear will never be seen again in either Bats or Supes, mark my words.
Kek if you actually believe this. There is NO way they won't ever revert to the classic costumes eventually, or at least something closer to the classic costumes. There's just no way.

I thought your argument was that DC laughs at SJWs even though a lot of their moves involving these characters would be pretty well approved by them, Anon. I mean really, you could just say DC was ahead of the curve and Marvel was just trying to catch up perhaps clumsily.
>>
>>83949258
>or at least something closer to the classic costumes
This could happen, without trunks but it could happen.

>Cass Cain
Not a line devoted for exposition related to his race, now look at Kamala Khan (whom I like btw)

>John Stewart
Same, maybe one episode in TAS where he visits the hood, now look at Miles.

>Midnighter
Okay he's pretty gay, but besides the gratuitous ass shots, it's never about that. Now look at Whor.

>Aside from being a no-trunksfag
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Trunks, I take that look over MoS or New 52, but only because they keep trying to capture the trunks look without trunks, too afraid of just giving him a fucking belt and be done with it.

I just think the trunks no longer have any cultural place in comics, not in main continuity at least, since main continuity is suppose to be relevant to today and be self aware.
>>
>>83949279
Except DC gets shit on by SJW all the time, because SJW are retarded cannibalistic creatures.

But DC doesn't care. It's ironic that they include a little of diversity for the sake of the story and the characters, not for a social cause, yet they are the ones who get the backlash for stuff like the Bizarro tweet, the Batgirl cover, etc etc.

MoS wasn't bad but BvS was a really big disappointment. I seriously hope Suicide Squad is good since Snyder isn't directing it. I'm not looking forward to Justice League, they're doing it far too soon. Why not just let the universe flesh out and breath? They don't need to rush out to catch up with Marvel, they can do their own thing, and then we get disappointments like BvS. But hey, maybe the "Ultimate" Cut will redeem BvS, it worked for Kingdom of Heaven.

There is. These are the people most listened to in their respective publications, channels and so on, and those outlets themselves are heavily vetted - you don't get to be an RT reviewer just because you've got a twitter account.

What you mean is "some of these critics hold views which differ from my own, so their views should not be heard". OK. If that's how you feel, become a an RT-approved critic. The criteria are all up on that link there, it shouldn't be hard for a patrician like yourself to achieve and of course since you can get and maintain the minimum 500,000 necessary unique visitors to your site each month with ease, making it into the top movie reviews site and putting all these assholes out of business as you finally give the people what they've been crying out for should be simple. In fact you should easily make it to the Top Critics, because you know you're going to maintain 1.5 million+ unique visitors for the next three years and beyond.

The problem I have with you drones that keep saying this is you ignore why the strong men wore them to begin with. Or you just don't know and are parroting what you've heard on /co/.

The trunks are there to keep the shirt tucked in while hiding the seem between the shirt and pants. Does that change that some see it as dated? No. But at least recognize that its not just a throwback style, there is a reason they did and still use it. Unless a character wears a onesie they'll be continuously tucking their shirt in after punching high.

And anyone defending Jim Lee in anyway has shit taste. That man almost killed DC turning them into the 90s X-Men and he's still attacking properties like Scooby.

>Q: When you’re making a whole universe worth of superhero movies there’s a vision you have to have, you have to know where you’re going. But at the same time, you have to kind of know what the audience is going to want. So how do you sort of pivot from all the reactions to BvS to sort of institute that going forward?
>A: Listen, I think every film is a learning experience. Right? And we hear what everyone has to say because we care what the fans say, at the same time, every story that we’re telling is a completely different story, and I think what’s really great is that where we were going is kind of what the audience is wanting. We just had to take the characters from somewhere to bring them up to where they are and that was kind of our journey.

>Q: If each film is a learning experience, what do you think is the main thing you learned from BvS you used here?
>A: I think the main thing we learned is that people don’t like to see their heroes deconstructed. I think that’s hard because it’s people we’ve grown up with and that we care about. They like seeing them in all their glory.

>Q: So who do you guys see as the target audience for these films because one of the things I think was interesting with BvS was seeing a lot of parents discovering that in the case of their younger kids, it was a little darker than they were ready for. That maybe 8-year-olds, 9-year-olds maybe weren’t the target audience for a Superman movie, which they weren’t expecting. So is Justice League more inclusive for that crowd?
>A: Justice League is much more inclusive. I think also it’s all about the characters too. And we have these two very young characters, Flash and Cyborg. And you know, they’re definitely lighter. I think they’re going to appeal to a younger audience.

I think with characters as big as Batman and Superman, it's workable. Especially when Superman is a character who is defined by his place in the world. He really does stand above all other superheroes in terms of how people see him. The day Superman shows up is the day the world changes. You can't say that for any other hero, really, at least not the ones we've seen in film over the past 10 years.

I'm torn. On the one hand, I'll be upset to see the DCEU become an MCU clone. On the other hand, if it decreases the amount of horrific bitching from fanboys that their movies don't have quips and that people die in them, and nobody smiles, maybe it will be worth it.

>In the clip Barry returns to his apartment, which is like a big warehouse space. There’s grafitti on the walls and a dozen TVs. He turns on a sparking fuse box to bring light to the place and the TVs jump to life. He walks into the main room and sees Bruce Wayne sitting in a chair.
>“Barry Allen, I’m Bruce Wayne.”
>“You say that like it explains why you’re sitting in my place in the dark in my second favorite chair,” says Barry.
>Bruce, dressed impeccably, gets up and approaches the younger man. He holds out a printout of a screenshot of that Flash mpeg from BvS. He asks is Barry knows who that is.
>“That’s someone who looks exactly like me but isn’t me,” Barry says. “He looks like a very attractive Jewish boy. He drinks milk, though, I don’t drink milk.”
>Bruce tells Barry he thinks he has special skills.
>“Sure,” Barry says. “I can code. I know sign language. Gorilla sign language.”
>Bruce looks at the Flash costume that is mounted right in the middle of the room. “And this?”
>“I’m into competitive ice dancing,” Barry says.
>Bruce notes that the costume includes ceramic plates, the kind they use to keep the space shuttle from burning up on reentry.
>“Very competitive ice dancing,” Barry says.
>Then Bruce spins around and throws a batarang. Everything goes into slomo except for Barry, who quite casually steps out of the way of the oncoming blade. He slowly looks at Bruce, at the batarang, and plucks it out of the air. Everything returns to normal speed.
>“You’re the Batman!” Barry says. “Can I keep this?”
>“You’re fast,” Bruce replies.
>“I think that’s underselling it,” Barry says.
>“I’m gathering people with special abilities. There’s a great enemy coming -”

>Hell, if I had to sum this entire set visit up in one quote it would come from producer Debbie Snyder, talking about the lessons she and Zack learned from critical and audience reactions to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:
>"We learned that people don't like seeing their heroes deconstructed.”

>So off I went to Old Blighty, where I would interview Ben Affleck while he was in the Bat costume and find that he was really funny, really smart and really into making sure we know that BATMAN ISN'T KILLING PEOPLE ANYMORE.

>There are three Mother Boxes on Earth. They're the macguffin of this movie. Parademons and their boss, Steppenwolf (oh hey, that's a scoop confirmed) are hunting them down. The JL gotta stop them.

>Also: Vulko's outfit. That's the guy Willem Dafoe is playing (you'll remember I first reported that Dafoe is playing an Atlantean some weeks back).

>And then The Flash. This costume is red. RED. I don't know how it'll look after post production color correction, but in person the costume is bright and primary.

>This time Batman's cowl is made of a different, thinner material. It should move even better than in the last film, where it moved as well as any Batcowl ever has. We got to look inside the cowl and see how many little ways they designed it to get heat away from Affleck's head. It was neat.

>The final costume was Wonder Woman, and just like Batman it's the exact same costume as last time. And again, that's unusual. Just in case we forgot this was a Zack Snyder movie Wilkinson explained the deep crimson of her breastplate by saying it reflects the "centuries of congealed blood of her victims."

>First, Gordon. It was JK Simmons' first day on set, and maybe you thought he would be doing some kind of ripped grandpa version of Gordon based on that pic of him working out that was going around online last week, but he isn't. He's absolutely classic Gordon: brimmed hat, head of grey hair, big brushy mustache, trench coat. I was blown away. It's a perfect Gordon. And Simmons plays him with a kind of weariness.

>Gordon asks how many of them there are. “Not enough,” Batman says. Gordon tells them that there was an abduction last night, and it was seen by a dozen witnesses. It was the same creature that abducted someone in Metropolis - a Parademon.

“The bad guy’s flying monkeys,” Batman says. Batman makes a joke! And it’s a real Batman type of line, one that would work in the comics! “Sardonic” is the word Affleck uses later to describe Batman’s sense of humor. I got very excited.
Affleck continues to be based.

>The team talks among themselves for a moment, which in and of itself is a miracle in a Zack Snyder superhero movie. They’re all in costume and they’re talking to each other. For reference, here’s Zack in an Empire Magazine interview explaining why he doesn’t like characters in costume conversing:
which we all know at this point.

>Gordon turns away. He knows what’s up. Batman’s gonna disappear. He starts giving a speech to the city below him (it’s actually a huge green screen). He turns around, expecting to be alone… but The Flash is still there! Gordon is startled!

>“You’re still here!” he says.

>“Yeah, hey they all left,” says The Flash. >“That’s rude.”
comfy/10

>I couldn’t help but geek out. Yes, I hated BvS, but here was Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Gordon in perfect costume (and also Cyborg in his jammies) standing next to the Batsignal talking about Parademons. This is the sort of shit a comic book nerd lives for.

>But more than that, as a hater this scene really went a long way to convincing me that Snyder and company truly understand how they fucked up BvS. They’re not just paying lip service. They really get it.

>There was something he said that I want to focus on. It gets to the point of the set visit. I asked Affleck how they follow up BvS, which was adapting The Dark Knight Returns, a story where Batman quits being Batman at the end. It was a story about the end of Batman, and that was where they started him!

>“You can’t go past the end,” Affleck agreed. “This is now not a guy at the end of his rope but kind of a guy at the beginning. Starting over, reborn and believing. Finding hope. And he really believes in this idea of forming this group. Obviously that’s something different because that’s a guy who’s not nihilistic, he hasn’t given up. He deeply believes that this is something that needs to happen and he’s in the awkward position of being kind of out there with a cup in his hand like, you know, ‘Believe in this, this is a good idea.’

>“The interesting thing about this Batman is that on the one hand, he’s sort of the ultimate loner, but on the other hand, he’s sort of tasked with putting together a group. So is the guy who basically broods in a cave all day really the best person to put together a team of superheroes? And he doesn’t have huge success initially. He rubs some people the wrong way or they rub him the wrong way, he’s got to figure out how to play well with others. He barely knows how to play well with Alfred.”

None of this shit convinces me they'll make a good movie.

I mean it's great that they're letting actors have actual chemistry in the movie, but everything else is just the same superficial bullshit. BvS didn't fail because it was dark, deconstructive and extreme. It failed because it was a jumbled mess that was in love with its own thematic depth even as it abandoned and forgot its themes halfway through, that didn't have a single moment to breathe despite being two and half hours long, that presented you with a cast of manchildren who were completely incapable of communicating in any way other than punching each other. It was a movie that tried to reach for the heavens while failing the very basic cinematic tasks. Is there any hint that that's going be different?

>Here’s something to keep in mind: this trilogy of Snyder’s might end up being the most reactionary franchise in film history. Nobody expected the audience to freak out about the destruction at the end of Man of Steel, and as a result BvS became a movie about mistrusting superheroes. But nobody expected the audience to freak out about the tone of that movie, and so there’s another course correction. That course correction feels like it’s bringing JL to the right place, but at what cost? Changing up a big movie like this in such a fundamental way isn’t easy.

>I did walk away from the set hopeful (well, I geeked out about interviewing Batman a bit but then I settled into just hopeful). BvS presented a DC universe that was so dark, so ugly, so unpleasant, so resistant to fun or whimsy or happiness that it seemed like the Earth 3 (home to the Crime Syndicate, the evil Justice League (aka the Justice Lords for those of you who only know this stuff from cartoons)) to the lighter Earth 1 DC universe that was on TV. That’s no longer the case. This world may still be darker than the CWverse, but there’s humanity in the heroes - and heroism in them as well - that was missing from BvS.

So I think the nice thing about working on Justice League is that it is an opportunity to really blow the doors off of the scale and the bad guys and team-building and all the stuff that I think I could justify as a big, modern comic book movie, if that makes any sense.”

>This time around, you’re an executive producer on this. How does that change you and your role, like ownership on Batman?

>Why I’m an executive producer is that I’m directing one of the movies. So there’s sort of this cross pollination of story and characters and I don’t want to give any of that stuff away, but it basically means that there are some things that might happen in my Batman that are affected by... I mean, here we are in the police station in Gotham city. There’s a potential that something like this might exist in that story. So it’s a creative way that DC came up with of kind of being a filmmaker-driven company and entity and also making sure that the right hand knows what the left hand is doing so that there’s collaboration and supervision. So that somebody doesn’t go sailing off, causing problems for your movie with their movie. You know, in a way, it’s also a kind of a courtesy. You know what they’re doing, one hand knows what the other is doing, and I get to weigh in on stuff that impacts the Batman stuff.

Is it unfair of me to read between the lines and come away with an interpretation that Ben did come away from the reaction to BvS with a leash on Snyder? His talk of collaboration, supervision, and being enabled to ensure that another filmmaker doesn't fuck things up heavily suggests it to me.

Also:

>How big is the role of Geoff Jones in this?

>Big! Geoff is a big part of things. He’s not here right now, he’s having a baby, but Geoff’s a great guy and there’s nobody that knows more about comic books. He’s got great taste and he’s really super smart and super nice, and Jon Berg as well has a big role.

I don't know why people seem to think the lighter tone is somehow a response to the criticism when that's the entire point of the ending of the movie to begin with.
>>
>>83954944
>when that's the entire point of the ending of the movie to begin with.
Literally what people who liked MoS said about it. That it suggested BvS was going to be lighter than MoS. How did that turn out again?
As for why people think it is a response? They think it because they can read, and your kino king admitted it.
>Zack said that tone was important to him, and that he was very aware of the tone of this movie. “Tone has always been the main thing that I go after with a movie, and I really wanted the tone of the three movies to be different chapters and not be the same note that you strike like, ‘Okay, there's this again.’ I really wanted that, and I do believe that since Batman Superman came out and we've wrapped our heads around what Justice League would be, I do think that the tone has, because of what fans have said and how the movie was received by some, is that we have kind of put the screws to what we thought the tone would be and I feel pushed it that little bit further.”
>>
>>83955034
>That it suggested BvS was going to be lighter than MoS.

I don't recall anyone saying that. Vast majority of commentary I heard was that the destruction was intentional and that it would become a major plot point in the sequel, which it did.

The movie literally ends with Superman martyring himself. Do you think he's going to come back exactly the same, with the same disillusioned perspective he had in the movie? Why? What would be the point?

There's a very clear character arc for Superman throughout both movies. He's disillusioned and unsure of himself in the face of the consequences of even the most noble action (saving a girl from a burning building), it isn't until he sacrifices himself that he realizes that he can't fight within the system to be the hero the world needs (It's their world, Lois). You're more than free to not like it, but this isn't reactionary at all and has a pretty consistent flow from MoS to BvS.
>>
>>83955114
>I don't recall anyone saying that
Good for you. I do. As someone who was in the daily threads debating MoS for the years between it and BvS's release I saw countless times how people reacted to criticism that there was no ending by saying that it was hopeful and that Superman had embraced his being humanity's savior at Jonathan's grave, and that his requesting trust from General Swanwick was an offering of his own faith in and hope for humanity.

>Do you think he's going to come back exactly the same, with the same disillusioned perspective he had in the movie?
I think Zack Snyder has no idea what kind of character to give Superman, and had every intention of doing exactly that. Jesus died and came back, and all he got was a power buff, so why would he treat SuperJesus any differently? Per the interview with Affleck however, Johns has been huge, and hopefully he'll course correct, and actually will come back looking and feeling more like MUH Superman. I have zero faith that that was the original plan however.

>but this isn't reactionary at all
>I do think that the tone has, because of what fans have said and how the movie was received by some, is that we have kind of put the screws to what we thought the tone would be and I feel pushed it that little bit further.
-Zack Snyder
You're more than free to think it isn't, but it is.

Fuckface, Chris Terrio literally said this before BvS even came out.

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2016/03/11/inside-chris-terrios-vision-for-batman-superman-and-justice-league/

>I expect “Justice League” will be tonally not quite as dark as “Batman v Superman.” From that point of view, I felt compelled to go back and try to lift us and myself into a different tonal place because I think when you write a darker film, sometimes you want to redeem it all a bit.
>>
>>83951975
>nobody on this set called it Batman v Superman. Batman AND Superman, Batman VERSUS Superman, never Batman v Superman

I purposely asked the ticket person to give me tickets to "Batman and Superman" because I knew it wouldn't just be a film about just them fighting.
>>
>>83955298
So you have autism, then?
>>
>>83955282
I know. I was thrilled hearing that.
Guess what. If the tonal spectrum is 0-10 where 0 is pitch black no hope allowed, and 10 it MLP, lets say BvS was a 3. Terrio could have made that statement intending for Justice League to be a 5.
Based on these set visits though Justice League may be a 6 or 7.
He can have made that statement, and still can have course corrected more extremely, which is exactly what Zack Snyder said happened. AGAIN:
>I do think that the tone has, because of what fans have said and how the movie was received by some, is that we have kind of put the screws to what we thought the tone would be and I feel pushed it that little bit further.
>>
>>83955265
>Jesus died and came back, and all he got was a power buff

Yeah I'm going to go ahead and guess that you're not actually very familiar with the meaning and mythology behind Jesus' resurrection if you think that Jesus just leveled up after he died and got sick wizard powers when he came back.

Of course not.
As people including myself have said since MoS, wanting more fun does not mean wanting more quips or for the movies to be just like Marvel.

>I flew out to London for one reason: I wanted to be convinced that Justice League wasn’t going to be a write off. But everyone seems convinced that they're going full Marvel, I think (hope!) that's bullshit.

Look Im not going to sit here and pretend Erza was my first choice but your fucking stupid if you wanted Grant as Flash. Not just because of his acting, but wanting anything to do with the CW

Ezra doesn't even look like any version of Barry Allen. Why not just cast him as "Wally West" and be done with it?

What's this obsession modern DC has with Barry Allen?

Because people are fucking idiots. X-Men isn't Marvel or DC's tone. Tone isn't multiple choice, it's a motherfucking spectrum. Since 2013 though, if you didn't like MoS "it could only be because you wanted Marvel." No. I just means I didn't like what we got and wanted something a bit warmer and less harsh on the tonal spectrum. As someone who spent years trying to convey that though, I gave up after awhile. I still feel the same, but trying to convince people that there can be more tone than DC or Marvel often leaves me feeling like I'm pissing in the wind.

Go fuck yourself. This has to be the most possive aggressive way you could "apologize" for those movie. "We're sorry people were just too stupid to get it." It doesn't even occur to them that just making everyone depressing and violent isn't a deconstruction, it's just getting the characters wrong. Morrison's work on both of the characters was a deconstruction and those are incredibly celebrated.

Which I get that, its just that we dont need to tease the fuck out of Darkseid like Marvel did with Thanos and at the same time, there are other cosmic threats they could have gone with. Not writing the film off entirely mind you its just Stepphenwolf isnt exactly the choice many would have guessed
