So Byron posted this on Twitter today.

>2D Zootopia in the style of Byron's concept art never
>>83942710
We can hope. Even Big Hero 6 is getting a TV show, and Zootopia made almost twice as much money.
Seeing the Zootopia threads floating around inspired me to watch it, and it was pretty good.
I look forwards to a sequel where both Judy and Nick are cops from the start; as long as they don't milk any particular character (like with Minions) or have the stereotypical and cliche 'one of them gets a potential love interest, that makes the other jealous, and they both get together in the end'. If they go that route, better they have it be a casual agreement or a shot but sweet scene.
How they handled scenes that could have been really cliche impressed me, so I'm, not worried on that front. I half expected her to lose her badge; and Nick feeling guilty help her regain it. I also fully expected him to actually go feral, and the power of friendship bring him around at the last minute.
So, thanks /co/. Polly wouldn't have gotten around to watching it if not for you folks.

>>83942561
Who would you goskinny dippingwith?
>>83943019
mr otterton and the elk would probably be the only ones to agree so nobody
>>83942908
I'm pretty sure part of Zootopia's plot will involve them becoming romantically intertwined, although I'd be really annoyed if the drama component came from a third wheel character. Love triangles are overplayed and there are plenty of better ways they could have tension in that part of the story, especially since Nick is a predator and Judy is prey.
>>83943155
fuck that, nick and Judy shipping is cancer. Just let it be a buddy cop or detective movie, if you want romance there's plenty of princess movies around
>>83943232
I don't know. I feel they really are a lot of the way there already, but I guess they would be them as just pals.
>>83943019
Judy, because she would be hesitant and that excites me.
>>83942561
It's good to point out he draws Nick the same way he drew "himself"
>>83943232
Regardless of whether or not they became romantically involved in the movie, Judy and Nick were written as soul mates.
>>83943232
I'm down for whatever gives a better storyline
But c'mom, they're made for each other
>>83943387
he's backto his old ways.
whatever, let's give him these 5 minutes of fame.
zootopia has cute foxes
>>83942561
weird, figured Nick for a speedo fox. Or at least Byron for liking Speedo Foxes
>>83942561
Guess we can expect Finnick on the ZPD next film?
>>83942908
Honestly feel like Zootopia's a movie you can enjoy if you watch it only once. After that, and you just get depressed.
>>83943634
Nah, he gets to be Nick and Judy's street informant. And from the looks of things at the end of the first movie movie, he took over the Pawpsicle business now that Nick changed careers.
>>83943659
what?
>>83943659
Speak for yourself.
>>83943846
if he's watching it for shipping then he''s doing it wrong.
i watch it for character, and visuals.

>>83943846
I'm just saying, some of those scenes can be pretty heart-wrenching...
>>83943899

>>83943899
>he doesnt know
>>83943872
even for character the only good ones are nick and judy. Everyone else is shallow and and gets no screen time.
It sucks because you watch fantastic mr fox and you see secondary characters getting a lot more development, zootopia and other disney movies are just too formulaic.
>>83943659
I know what you mean. I watched the movie and have been in a horrible rut for about a month now, nothing in my life matters except for this movie and I have literally no idea why
The original "Zootopia"?
http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/14/arts/medieval-subversive-art/index.html
>>83943963
I'm aware of Zistopia, but even toned down, the movie's pretty dark. In a good way, though.
>>83943940
>>83942827There is nobody at the counter.
>>83943988
that's why they made optimistic bunny as the protag, you root for such character.
>>83943978
It's because it's so positive and pretty, maybe? I remember people on /frz/ talking about similar feelings, and I remember articles about Harry Potter books and the blue alien Avatar movie where people were sad that a beautiful and interesting world like that didn't exist for them to be a part of.
I think it's a kind of natural thing for people who get easily attached to fiction.
>>83943983
nice find. thanks!
>>83943659
I felt similarly about Wall-E. After about 8 watches I was sick of it, and after 4 watches I was done with Zootopia.
>>83944131
>i ate too much ice cream and now my stomach hurts
boo-hoo.
>>83944047
Maybe, who knows. I do like the zootopia world a lot and really enjoy the fanfiction people have been writing.
I guess in the future I should stick to sad movies

>>83943417
I'm with this. Sure forced and poorly written romances are boring, but Zootopia does it right. You get this vibe that there is this profound and gradual attraction between the two and eventually it has to mean something, it definitely seems like a hell of a lot more than just friendship, especially for a lonely type of guy like Nick and a sincere person like Judy. The main reason being that the things they've done they've done for each other. That kind of devotion off the bat makes it seem like they genuinely crave each other's company.
>>83943978
it's just because real life is horrible anon
>>83944370
Yeah it really is. I hope it gets better soon.
>>83943019
Bellwether. We'd hold each other in the water, and look each other in the eyes, smiling.
>>83944735
What a shitty cop.
>>83944666
What's their story? I feel like McHorn and Bogo were good friends who joined the force at the same time, but had a falling out. Delgato was a rookie who partnered with an already seasoned Bogo for awhile, after said falling out. McHorn and Bogo have mostly reconnected, but there's still some distance on Bogo's end, especially now that he's Chief.
>>83942827
Looks like a guy.
>>83944768
always
>>83944131
Still watch Wall-E, seen Zootopia 25x, still not tired of them.
>>83943978
I'm happy for the same reason. Nothing matters as much as it used to. I feel free.
Working on a "feelsy" comic which is a first for me I guess.
Hopefully I'll get this done by the night.
>>83944001
> "I could've been a doggie all this time?!?"
>>83944735
Why the fuck did Europe and pretty much every other country get more content like this then America?
>>83942908
I mean, depending on what Byron and Rich do, the sequel may have some inter species romance between Judy and Nick, so...
>>83945831
I'm excited.... I hope it's extra feels-ey....

>>83944182
What? It's obvious that I think they're great movies. Shit just stopped getting to me after way more viewings than it should have.
>>83944961
25? Isis members have probably cracked over less.
>>83946340
It really is Lion King all over again. Disney thought the big money makers this year were going to be Finding Dory and Moana, so they sent Zootopia off to March where it could die. And surprise surprise, it broke every record for a March opening and joined the billion dollar animated movie club.
Finding Dory had a big opening, and with merchandising profits it will probably make as much money for Disney as Zootopia (since Zootopia hardly got any merch for a Disney film), although I'm pretty certain it will make more money than Moana. However, I still am putting my bets on Zootopia being the top grossing animated movie of the year. It was my most anticipated animated movie of 2016 and now it's my favorite of the decade.
Some of the greatest Disney movies of all time have been ones that Disney themselves vastly underestimated, and Zootopia certainly fits that bill.
>>83945831
I love that art style, it's unique. Never let it go when you move onto other projects.
>>83946517
Finding Dory, at this rate, will probably surpass Zootopia.
But hell, I doubt Moana will surpass either of them. Even by the teaser, I'm already uninterested.
>>83946557
I think Moana looks pretty good, but it doesn't really seem to be breaking the mold. It reminds me a lot of Lilo and Stitch with the tropical theme and I'm basically getting a road-trip-at-sea vibe from it. I'm sure it will be good but I don't think it will become an obsession for people the way Frozen and Zootopia did.
I really don't understand Finding Dory though. I thought Finding Nemo was okay but I never felt the need to see it more than once, and I'm the kind of person who owns a lot of Disney movies on Blu-Ray. I just don't get how people can be so obsessed with a movie about fish.
I think Finding Dory is having a huge opening by nature of being a sequel, but I don't think it will have Zootopia's legs. Zootopia had a big opening for March, but March isn't a month for big openings. It had legs because people saw it largely based on word of mouth. It's one thing to see a high tomatometer score, but it's something else entirely to hear your friends and family members gushing about the movie after they see it and then beg you to watch it.
The people who loved Finding Nemo were all going to go see it on opening weekend, because they knew they like the franchise and they knew what to expect. I'm sure it's going to do well with repeat viewers, but I think it's going to be a lot more front-loaded than Zootopia was.

Man that sounds comfy as fuck though.
>>83946741
Moana's going to need a better trailer to drum up interest. I mean so far they've gone to great lengths to show us THERE THE ROCK AS A DEMIGOD WITH A HOOK and also a girl with a pig or something. Which is fine and all, but it doesn't tell me why I should care. I mean toss me a plot hook or something guys.
>>83946845
Yeah that's basically how I feel too. The trailer made a big deal about "hey look, Dwayne Johnson is a cartoon!", and unfortunately the girl's reaction was a little bit like mine. Maybe that was supposed to be the point, that the audience is expecting more, but the trailer didn't give us more, so it hits a little too close to home.
The next trailer needs to be really good. I'll see it regardless since I watch pretty much every animated Disney movie, but when your movie doesn't have an obvious hook, word of mouth isn't necessarily the best thing to lean heavily on even if you're confident that the movie is good.

>>83947335
Found them in the trash thread, I'm gathering them. Thinking about dumping small dumps over here since there's a lot of content creators over there.
You can find more of Meads comics at his tumblr here; http://mistermead.tumblr.com/
However he has a lot of feels-y comics, well written and well drawn though.
Weaver does comics as well, you can find his stuff here; https://e621.net/post/index/1/the_weaver
I've not posted any of his works here as they tend to be NSFW or suggestive.
Some of the comics however are from Korea/Japan? They have some sort of contest where they pick a topic for a week and a bunch of artists draw their things and submit it via twitter apparently. I'm not entirely sure.
But the trash thread has a Translator-Anon and a Typesetter-Anon who translates them into English. I think they're busy? Dunno about them.
>>83947505
thanks anon, you've made me a happy man
>>83947523
No problem.
I also do screencaps for the writers over there, but uh... Most of them are pretty NSFW. Here's one SFW one.
Mechanic says he's vowed to never go to the Trash thread or something. So I'm going to do my best to get some of the sfw stuff that end up there over here so people like him could go and see it without needing to go to ztg.

Morning, thread
>>83946990
Nick grabbing Judy's tail after she grabs his seems to be a popular subject for fan comics. And I approve.
>>83946741
I saw the Moana teaser on sunday night when I went to see Dory... both were kind of meh. Dory was boring, Ellens voice was annoying, holy fucking flashbacks too many to count, it also seemed to have less colour in it than Nemo did (the coral and fish etc). A retarded fish, retarded bird, and retarded seal... what's that all about? Simply put it was not worth the C$14 i shelled. And I said it in another thread, if given a choice between Dory and Good Dinosaur i'd choose the latter.
However the Pixar short "Piper" was pretty good, I enjoyed it.
>>83947403
Yeah, I had a subscription too. Had it for several years, in fact. My favorite part of the magazine was undoubtedly the comics, although the articles were decent too. It would be great if they brought it back as a leaner magazine with a primary emphasis on the comics.
>>83947505
As much as the /trash/ /zoo/ thread has a reputation for autism, a lot of the best drawfags have migrated over to /trash/, probably because they were tired of getting banned for drawing Judy in a swimsuit or whatever else triggered the mod that particular day. It's easier to just not have any rules to worry about.

>>83949342
Turks don't really like it, huh?
>>83949519
Relatively speaking, they like it just fine. It went up from 3rd place last week to 2nd place this week. It's just that the Turkish box office isn't particularly wealthy compared to some other countries. Last time they gave any movie more than a million dollars in a weekend was Captain America Civil War.
>>83949513
That's old news anon. We were chatting with the bun weeks ago.
>>83948131
nah, I think it was much better than The Good Dinosaur. The memory and the flashback sequence is what driving the story, the movie really is about Dory. Just watched Zootopia about 3 days ago and I gotta say it was wonderful, thought it was incredible and much much better than Inside Out.

I give thanks for my ears, yea, though the sounds of evil do oft visit them. They are Byron's gift unto me, and I thank him with my unending... services.
I give thanks for my arms, with them I make the world less wretched. Wretched. Fox, behold the work that I do for thee.

I watched this recently but I am confused.
Who are supposed to be black people? Bunnies, Foxes?
I'm only sure predators in general where supposed to be Muslims.
>>83963863
There's no direct racial comparison. It's not about race, it's about discrimination and assumptions in general.
>>83963893
This.
>>83963893
While this is true, honestly I wouldn't be surprised if you asked Byron, Rich, and the other people who worked on the film and probably 95% of them would say "it's an allegory for racism of whites and blacks, and how whites are racist against blacks."
>>83963893

So racism, got you.
>>83964011
Byron, almost certainly. Rich, probably not. I don't care about what the rest think.
>>83964060
Yeah sadly I can see Byron being a massive SJW. As long as he doesn't go into full Tumblrina mode on Twitter.... whatever.
I like to imagine Rich not giving a fuck about politics and just shitting on people from all walks of life for keks.
>>83963554
I like when he tries poses of drawings, they are quite cute.
The guy seems to be learning blender thanks to judy's model, just like me and others have been doing lately. Damn that thing seems to have inspirational powers.
>sorry its so late :3 i render with 1k sample it cost 3 days for1 image :O
>3 days
>1080x1920 picture with 1000 samples for a single picture
Aaaaand thats why I have rendered all my animations in openGL so far. Seriously thats a lot of very time consuming pixels.
>>83963863
There are no white or black people in Zootopia. They're their own civilization and they have their own set of demographic-related problems that we can relate to but aren't meant to represent real groups of people.
>>83960370
>Musk mask
>>83964138
I dunno, if Byron was a massive SJW, he could have gone a lot worse with proto-Zootopia. It was more blatant with the predators being an opressed class and Zootopia basically being an apartheid state, but it was mostly just depressing, so much to the point that it's message got lost in how bleak it was.
>>83964223
Same here. Bought the Cycles Encyclopedia book today and it's pretty good, so recommend that if you want to learn materials. I do want to improve that model one day though. It's nice to slowly understand how it all works, day by day.
It took me a day to render a 10K image with 1000 samples on my laptop, so don't know what he's rendering on. My 980 Ti seems slower than my CPU for that model but faster for just rendering normal materials, which is a bit odd but whatever.
>>83964034
>the only victims of discrimination are certain racial groups
Yeah, nobody could EVER be discriminated against for their religion, political beliefs, or sexual orientation, right?
>>83964011
M8 they literally said there wasn't a direct correlation to any race. That's why they used animals.
Hey guys, is there any shorts planned for Zootopia? There was this (pic) but it never showed up.
>>83964587
The concept of "punching up" is how a Muslim can murder 50 gay people, and still be considered the victim.
>>83959950
heavy metal Judy is a strange new flavour that I wasn't prepared for.

You guys are a bunch of presumptuous dumbasses. Jesus fuck it's like I'm on /k/ talking about celebrities that like guns.
Just because somebody's famous doesn't mean they're fucking SJW liberals or what shit.
Byron Howard and Rich Moore have repeatedly stated in MANY interviews that this movie is NOT a fucking allegory about race and racism. It's about societal discrimination and stereotyping in general.
>>83958621
You mean "hopefully"
>>83965832
>predators diminuized to "preds"
>"biological impulses"
>the cheetah that "isn't even from the jungle, they're from the savannah"
You're deluding yourself if the racial overtones didn't stick out like sore thumbs. I'll grant you a lot of the examples can serve the dual purpose of being general "don't judge people on why they look like/who they appear to be", but the subtext is there.
>>83964545
> Cycles Encyclopedia book
That sounds neat. Does the book teaches general stuff about materials or only refered to blender? I'm aiming to get skills that can be easily translated to other software if I ever need to (blender is awesome though).
About render times, we don't really know the setup the guy used, maybe he had a ton of lights or messed with the way blender renders. You can see in his last picture that the fur is different near the corner of judy's eye, so I wouldn't be surprised if he is playing with the settings a lot.
>>83965946
>anon gets to close to Nick and Judy

>Nick snarls loudly, staring anon right in the eye
>anon continues closer, hand reaching out to Judy
>Nick lashes out, jumping on to anon with his claws digging into his chest
>Nick tears at anon's neck, ripping out sheets of flesh
For those of you desperate for Judy, would you let Nick kill you if he finds you trespass? Or would you risk hurting him fighting back?
>>83965903
The trash is already in the trashcan, what remains in /co/ are chill threads. These will dissapear once people lose interest in the movie, just like inside out which was super prevalent in its days and now is mostly gone
>>83966034
But aren't you also forgetting about the "Mammal Inclusion Program" and how it specifically helped Judy—a prey animal—overcome her social marginalization?
And what of Bellwether? Her big thing was how she felt like "prey" animals were the ones being unfairly treated by predators, wasn't it?
As most of the Anons here said before, the analogies aren't 1:1 with reality. To condense the movie's message to pure racial terms misses the point.
>>83965169
>>83966093
Blender only, but I mean it's good to know anyway and it'll make using other software much easier I bet. Is it worth £15? To me it was, but I'm not planning to use anything else other than Blender so it's a pretty decent purchase.
It's weird, yeah. The fur seems... Different when I compare it to a high res close-up I took a few days ago. I'll ask him what he's done- never used Tumblr before though so I'll have to figure that out...
If you are here to argue about which animal is a nigger you can argue directly to Nick's paw, because that's where the discussion belongs.

I was very pleasantly surprised, as the Anon near the beginning of the thread said, that Nick wasn't saved by the power of friendship but by clever thinking.
I subtract points for the "ITS CALLED A CON SWEETIE XD" joke being used for the third time right after it, though, and that fucking pen that was used as a device like 5 times.
>>83966647
>that fucking pen that was used as a device like 5 times
Honestly it probably was used many other times during the film, but its purpose was left off screen.
After all this is a Disney movie...

He's crowdfunding I think.
Sad that his films always seemed to be so divisive among critics -- guess they just didn't like the "dark" and "creepy" factor to them, or that they dared to be unconventional.

The tiger cub had a logical question, though. The Beast was designed as a hodge-podge of various animals, including water buffalo and lion. I don't think we saw hybrids in Zootopia, but if they exist, the Beast would definitely be thought of as one.

Draw Nick at an angle that shows off his footpaws. Nothing fetish-y, but lots of Zootopia fan artists haven't been able to get the feet right.
Have him sitting down or something, I don't know.
>>83971714
Can you draw guns? How about a character with a 1911?
>>83971714
Weaselton wrapped around someone's neck like a scarf.

I've actually noticed that you've been leaving them out of your drawings. I want you to challenge yourself.
Draw Nick rudely propping his feet up on Judy's desk while they are both at work in the precinct. That sounds challenging and fun.
As for references, unless you're going to peruse through the Movie yourself for them you will have to ask anons to supply you with screenshots.
>>83972076
>I haven't drawn weasleton yet, and I draw realistic-ly... so, not sure how stretching him will work out...
No need to worry about stretching, weasels are flexible and he's large enough to drape around the shoulders of... let's say... a deer?
>>83972076

>>83972197
...maybe.... let me think about it.... not the shining inspiration I was hoping for when I came here, but...
....the way you are pushing the feet art is definitely leading me to belive this is for fetishy stuff...
>>83972384
m8, I just want Judy Hopps in muh military gear. And yes, he probably wants his disgusting furfag foot fetish to be fulfilled (just read the thread if you want to know). It's up to you on what you draw tbqh though.
>>83972384
>...the way you are pushing the feet art is definitely leading me to belive this is for fetishy stuff...
Pretty sure if it was for fetish reasons I'd be asking you to draw Nick or Judy stepping on a mouse some shit. I don't see how this is any different than asking someone to draw a shot that focuses on hands or tails or ears.
>>83972380
It's still playing? Already have the blu-ray.

Thank you, you're the last hero this thread has.
All other drawfriends either lost interest or joined the austistic shitfest that is /trash/.
Have you tried using different pencil hardnesses? Like a hard pencil for sketching and a soft pencil for shading? Art stores carry sets of these and I'd think you would find them a lot more fun than using the same pencil for everything.
