I really dug the fight scenes. The Shiro PTSD moments in episode nine were great too, and I do like the chemistry the cast has. Wasn't a fan of some of the humor early on, but it got better.

Maybe adding some more info on the villains would have improved it, but I know there's only so much you can do in a season with 13 episodes.

Yeah weekly formats dont work for netflix shows. They've been trying it with the mortal instruments series but its backfired horribly and is considered to be the weakest show they've ever produced. I give them the benefit of the doubt tho since someone else is leading the development of it and is controlling how it is being released and netflix is just acting as the hosting ground.


That being said i sometimes dislike how dreamworks shows end on that episode 13 cliffhanger when we know there are another 13 episodes coming in roughly 5-6 months time. This is realistically only arc 0.5 where as the remaining 13 episodes will make it into a full arc 1 for the voltron story.

I am really digging this show though, it has to be one of the best cartoons pumped out in a really long time. My main concern was that it would pander towards 9 year olds but clearly this show is going to be dark, Zarkon and Haggar are fine examples of how twisted the Galra empire is and i can't wait for more!

Well part of that I think is to keep the budgets level with what they want to produce. And Netflix has ideals to put a good deal of money into their animation.

Cliffhangers while may not be the cup of tea for everyone remind me a lot of the old show serials that places like Sci-fi channel used to run way back in the day.

I think the issue is cliffhangers are so over used now days that i just dont like them in a netflix series knowing how they go. Granted i get the mid season finales and what not and thats how they work but in general it just drives me up the wall knowing ill be waiting 6 months just to go "well no shit they're all okay". It just seems like such a messy story technique to pull off. If you have a cliff hanger, maybe make it so its not so... abrupt, actually thats what this one was, an abrupt/really badly timed cliffhanger.

Because without Voltron getting rebooted, Zarkon can't get back the Black lion, and therefore Voltron, for his own uses. He couldn't get to the lions before, remember?

Which raises the question... how and why did everything kick off? This HAD to all be a Galra plot right, otherwise it is too neat.

Shiro manages to escape, but didn't really remember how. He escapes right into the arm of the vague protagonist guy who just happens to know where the Blue Lion is. The Blue Lion leads them back to the castle which gets all the lions unlocked. Time skip a week, and the Lions are jumping into Zarkon's hands, if it wasn't for last second betrayal.

Shiro was looking for Voltron. The transmissions from the Galra were about Voltron. Seems he knew Voltron was still around, but we learn later that the area the Castle was located in was on the fringe of Galra territory. The Sol System also hadn't seen them until recently.

It is, however, possible that Zarkan learned Voltron was still around when the Red Lion was discovered, but we don't know when that was.

As long as they don't start forming Blazing Sword every single fight as their finishing move and you are left wondering why they don't just open with it.

Frankly I like how much time they spend as individual pilots and running around as lions. Helps them build character and test themselves more than when they're all cooped up together letting Voltron do everything.
