Became public domain recently, which brought attention to it again, which then brought back memes of when it enjoyed brief popularity a few years ago.
>>
>>83892342
Heck, the Runabout joke has been around for a while too.

"Unhand her, Dan Backslide", THAT one is new.
>>
>>83892360
wait theres a book
i will have to check that out
>>
Because it's a fucking beautiful work of both animation and humor. It is quite possibly *the* quintessential animated short. It perfectly mastered its medium.

It deserves every ounce of popularity it gets.
>>
>>83892491
ah it was a parody i see i got some reading to do
>>
>>83892083
I don't get it.
>>
>>83892083

Got popular with tumblr and since /co/ is tumblr's hideous Siamese twin everyone here followed suit without thinking
>>
I just watched it for the first time. I'm very confused.
>>

Because if there's one thing /co/ and the internet hold sacrosanct it's copyright law.

Yeah, like, 2009, was it?

Fun Fact;

Genndy from Dexter's Lab and Samurai Jack said that this cartoon was his major inspiration on animation and cinematography.
>>
>>83900440
cool
>>
>>83900401
Yep. Those Dover Boys pioneered the technique.
>>
The public domain thing is the reason for the meme spike right now, really.
>>
>>83900401
It evidently experimented with a few techniques that were new at the time, including forms of limited animation.

The "limited animation" actually got Chuck Jones in trouble and close to being fired, though in the end they couldn't find anyone to replace him.
>>
I hadn't seen it before. Just watched on YouTube. It is pretty damn funny.
