Good evening owls of /co/,

oh shit
>>
>>83884193
So my ISP went out yesterday for over 12 hours, entire metro area. Sorry about that!
>>
>>83884221
Wow, what? Who are you with?
>>
>>83884193
Hello Storyteller.

>>83884221
No stress. Life happens.
>>
>>83884221

You're back!
>>
>>83884252
U-verse. They got a lot of really, really mad people. :)

I see Nick Spencer is over his "Rebirth was a nice issue" phase and is into "you're all going to be sorry because DC is evil" again.
>>
Deadshot's laser gun is just a bluff, isn't it? I'm not going to get to see Stalin's eardrums perforated.
>>
>>83884293
so I started Morrowind

combat is confusing because I can't always tell when shit is coming for me, and Vivec is SO BIG wtf

>tfw asked for a story with the adult batfam members in this storytime a few days ago
>this crossover where Kate takes Barbara's place as adult member member is announced
I'll take it even if the 'Tec teenagers are in it and there's a lack of Luke and Helena

Also how do you do it storyteller?
First Thunderbolts, then LOSH, and now this small little arc request.
>>
>>83884324
>>
>>83884324
Yeah, there's no question that in terms of combat mechanics the later games are superior. But when you're a bisected demigod, go big or go home IMO.
>>
>>83884293
Didn't we used to think Spencer was a really cool guy? Now he's suddenly coming off as a bit of a douche.
>>
>>83884221
>Orlando writes the entire Batfam for one month
>MONSTERS EVERYWHERE, ALSO KAIJU AND HERO-CLAYFACE SHENANIGANS
>>
>>83884293
Spencer really doesn't wear his butthurt well
>>
>>83884375
Apparently he was always a douche on the Bendis forums.
>>
>>83884332
The monster designs in this look super cool.

>>83884375
He's always been a social media douche. Or at least for the past year+. Lieber is the cool one.
>>
>>83884293
You doing melee, magic or DICKASSery?
>>
>>83884375
Lieber is the /co/ favorite since he posts here. Spencer got some love by association and since his work was generally enjoyable.
>>
>>83884373
It always takes me a while to get into one of these

Speaking of games, oh my god Waifu Academy Black Knight is a fucking hoot

>>83884379
I wouldn't eyeroll at it so hard if it weren't so hypocritical

did you all see that IGN article that got discussed?

That they do

Glad Orlando says it's gonna be fun cause giant monsters in Gotham sure sounds fun
>>
>>83884402
I think I made myself a Dunmer scout
>>
This is a really great Atom scene.
>>
>>83884332
>first crossover of Rebirth is yet more Batwank
Sigh.

On the other hand, I'm with you on the Kate thing. I still love how people got mad when the ex-Marine had the gall to start ordering these little kids around. yeah, how dare the trained military officer take charge. Not like she had any worthwhile training or is an adult or anything. Idiots.
>>
>>83884432
I've never really rated TES combat. I mean I played Skyrim and Dragon's Dogma at about the same time and there is no comparison, DD's dragon fights blow Skyrim out of the fucking water. But I do remember just kind of randomly jabbing at shit without knowing what was going on in Morrowind.
>>
>>83884375
I think marvel has a requirement that you have to be butthurt and shit on DC at least once a week or something
>>
>>83884468
>Dunmer
You're good people, storyteller.
>>
>>83884476
Oh don't worry there's going to be a Superman crossover right after the Batman one is finished.
>>
>>83884476
>wanting other books to be plagued by crossovers

I want the Superbooks to go one full year without a crossover to see if Berganza's head explodes.
>>
>>83884375

His Jimmy Olsen was goat, but he didn't gel with DC very much.

Now he got infected by the SJW Marvel club.
>>
>>83884432
I know you don't play PAD any more, but the most hilarious shit happened in JP

Somebody asked the creator of PAD to roll in a godfest and buff whatever he rolled...so he did. And his pulls were horrible. His first egg was a silver and he cracked up when he realized didn't even recognize one of the monsters... So, he buffed them all really hard! No joke.
>>
>>83884446
I'm interested for the freaky monsters and for Orlando. I think Orlando just kind of gets characters right. Kind of like Ewing, actually? He just handles a character's "voice" very well.
>>
>>83884375
His reputation had its ups and downs. He did some decent DC work, got but there with them and jumped ship, did mediocre work for Marvel, rumors of him being a scandalous politician surfaced, he redeemed himself with Superior Foes, and now he's back in the shutter.
>>
>>83884478
>WAID! Get in here!
>Y-yes Mr. Brevoort?
>My Twitter feed is showing you haven't fulfilled your DC shitflinging quota for the week, and the day is almost over.
>I know sir, I was just about to throw a massive fit about Wally, trust me sir! Just give me an hour!
>You better, or it's your ass on the line
>>
>>83884509
I was a Skyrim Nord, so this is appropriate

>>83884477
the component of TES 'combat' I like is the "Can I survive fucking around here in the wilderness?" stuff, not "this boss fight takes strategery"
>>
>>83884559

rekt
>>
>>83884477
>DD's dragon fights blow Skyrim out of the fucking water.

You are Mah nigga.
>>
>>83884546
that's awesome

I just forget to play, I should see what's up
>>
>>83884477
That's intentional, Bethesda doesn't make "being good" a requirement to complete their games. It's a coasting experience with slight bumps along the way.
>>
>>83884557

Waid doesn't need to be toss mud at DC. He does it for free.
>>
Squad solicits are out early. Issue 2 is introducing "a demon-possessed graphic designer named June Moore " and "the most dangerous man in the DC Universe" issue 3 is Harley vs everyone going crazy in Belle Reeve

Jim Lee still arting!

i could never get into elder scrolls/bethedasla games because the fighting was never fun enough to go through
>>
>>83884594
Everything's different again. For the better, but 3x skillups and 10x plus eggs are now super normal.
>>
>>83884293
>I see Nick Spencer is over his "Rebirth was a nice issue" phase and is into "you're all going to be sorry because DC is evil" again.
any choice tweets?
>>
>>83884554

Man I remember joking about how he was the hot new writer who was gonna flame out and disappear and fucker's still around. respect
>>
>>83884559
>the component of TES 'combat' I like is the "Can I survive fucking around here in the wilderness?" stuff, not "this boss fight takes strategery"
Dragon's Dogma kind of has that in spades too. At low levels just fucking around with lanterns at night is nerve-wracking. Worth a look if you're ever uh, looking.
>>
>>83884594
LOL
>>
>>83884613
At least he's got stuff to be mad at them about.

Joe Quesada really poisoned the well forever.
>>
>>83884511
Nice to see that absolutely nobody thinks for even a second that Trinity is going to be anything but Superwank.

>>83884530
No, it just saddens me to see that DC just cannot resist sucking the Batcock.
>>
>>83884432
>did you all see that IGN article that got discussed?

Yeah and I don't think it's that surprising. Really hoping my "CW2 is Marvel's Convergence" proclamation pays off. They need to fix their shit.
>>
>>83884614
So is the Suicide Squad comic just going to be the Suicide Squad movie in comic form

When will Joker show up
Will he have "damaged" on his forehead

They should've done this in June so it would be over and in trade by the movie.
>>
>>83884614
>>83884596

Bethesda games are dumb sandboxes to toss things in. The only reason they were considered good is that they were doing their own niche and had some funny writing.

Also, tons of modders doing the work for free.

And loli sex mods

Daedra are *never* boring.
>>
>>83884650
I can actually hear the creepy way he stretches out Amy.
>>
>>83884680

Nah it sounds ok. unless you're one of those "Movie team REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" types

>“THE BLACK VAULT” part 2! What was meant to be a routine mission to retrieve a “cosmic item” from an undersea fortress has become a nightmare beyond anything the Suicide Squad ever expected. And with half the team down, it’s up to Harley Quinn, Katana, and a demon-possessed graphic designer named June Moore to save the Squad from the most dangerous man in the DC Universe. That’s right...they’re screwed.
>“THE BLACK VAULT” part 3! It looks like a well-deserved day off for the Suicide Squad—until things go off the rails when the bizarre energies of the dark sphere Amanda Waller’s team brought back slowly drive everyone in Belle Reve Penitentiary to acts of violent, bloody madness. Everyone except the crown princess of crazy, Harley Quinn, who’s somehow been…cured?

god deadshot's new mask is dumb
>>
>>83884699
There's plenty of worry to be lobbed at DC's treatment of creators, but, uh, they're not the only ones, Nick.

His "double shipping is different when we do it" stance is one of the weirdest.
>>
>>83884557
>> Taking another page from the Stan Lee playbook, Mr. Quesada has ended the long period of unnatural détente between Marvel and its rival DC Comics, the home of Superman and Batman, now owned by AOL Time Warner.

Since the so-called Silver Age of Comics, which took place from 1956 to 1969, readers have defined who they were by their allegiance to Marvel or DC.

DC was Dick Van Dyke’s 1960’s. It was The Flash, alter ego of handsome, earnest police scientist Barry Allen, and his reporter girlfriend Iris West, whose sharp, delicate features, Capri pants and hair ribbons made you swoon, but not lust. The lettering was clean, and the art, wide and open, imbued with the sense of Ivy League decorum and buttoned-down sensibilities.

Marvel, meanwhile, was Lenny Bruce. Beginning with the Fantastic Four in 1961, Mr. Lee and his crew created comics that tapped into the roiling social and sexual energies of the time. When the heroes weren’t fighting villains, they were battling their inner demons, unsympathetic cops or other superheroes.

As Michael Chabon, author of The Amazing Adventures Of Kavalier & Clay , the Pulitzer Prize–winning novel about two comic-book writers in the 1930’s, put it: “DC was part of the establishment. Marvel was different. When I was younger, I liked the heroes of DC because they seemed like parental figures. When I was older, I liked Marvel, because they seemed like they were my contemporaries.”

Mr. Quesada is convinced that some good old-fashioned gloves-off rivalry will be good for business. “I liked it when the two companies hated each other,” he said. “It made it better for the fans. You know, if you like DC, then you hated Marvel. If you like Marvel, then you hated DC.”
>>
>>83884716
You're saying everything I like to hear, OP! I hope you dig Morrowind.

Right, that's just company wars bullshit. And the way he tried to defend the oversized Deadpool issue that Big Bang noted turned off a lot of people.
>>
>>83884716

In Skyrim, you can be in allegiance with 15 daedra at once and it doesn't matter. It's retarded and kills the need to replay the game.
>>
>>83884784
Nick Spencer, somehow, obviously.
>>
>>83884786
>Hahahaha the fucking AOL slam.
>
>Remembering the hell out of the weak ass burns from Marville.
>>“What the fuck is DC anyway?” Mr. Quesada said, stoking the fires. “They’d be better off calling it AOL Comics. At least people know what AOL is. I mean, they have Batman and Superman, and they don’t know what to do with them. That’s like being a porn star with the biggest dick and you can’t get it up. What the fuck?” (Paul Levitz, DC’s president and publisher, declined to comment for this story through a spokesperson.)
>>
>>83884699
Also, the "more pages = higher cost", he has to know that that higher cost is driving a ton of readers away, new or old, right? Trying to milk every dollar you can from a very small readership is a terrible move if you want to actually grow your base, but I guess it's the way of Marvel.
>>
>>83884758
>months from now dc stops double shipping
>the prices get raised to 3.99 for the a list and b list books again
>spencer catches wind of this, vomits plasma from his mouth, red lantern style

That's Big Bang, they tweet regularly about sales, very specifically

>>83884855
yessss
>>
>>83884901

DO NOT SEXUALIZE THE BEAR WOMEN
>>
>>83884829
According to the closest sources, it isn't. It's a theory that's easy to believe though, for obvious reasons.

The more depressing and more likely reality is that DC as a company doesn't actually want to address the sexual harassers in their midst or doesn't even see a problem, much like many, MANY companies do with these issues.

The going standard in a lot of places, not just comics, is that you don't take this stuff up with HR because it's honestly more likely to get you fired. With comics, it's worse, because if you speak about it publicly, it's likely to get you blacklisted behind scenes and fellow creators to burn bridges with you, because they're more likely to side with, well, the shithead and harasser.

Notably, Brian Wood hasn't taken much of any damage among his peers. A lot of people will just side with and defend really bad fucking people.
>>
>>83884922

>>
>>83884829
If he hasn't done anything recent they might not be able to do anything. Already been disciplined internally and maybe the cost of buying out his contract would be too much or it's otherwise just not possible. Hard to know when these kinds of details aren't publicly known.

speaking of DC editorial, from Byrne

>There were several meetings, as you might expect, leading up to MAN OF STEEL, and at virtually every one... I brought up the Legion. "You know that's the book that will be most impacted by what I'm doing." The response was each time...a kind of metaphorical tousling of my hair. "Don't you worry your pretty little head about that! We have it under control."...Sure, until six or eight months in, when came the panicked call from my "editor". "WHAT YOU'RE DOING F*CKS UP THE LEGION!!!!".....Like I keep saying, DC is @ really good @ at thinking things thru. @ = sarcasm

superhero comics long ago gave up ideas like due process, hell it's a Civil War tradition. look at the Negative Zone prison
>>
>>83885217
IKR. On one hand, that's exactly what someone who's never been profiled would say, on the other hand, it's said in-character by someone who hasn't ever been profiled and has probably committed racial atrocities against Skrulls.

So, if I weren't supposed to agree with her and the Skrull things were still full-canon, I'd actually be okay with that line. Carol would think that.

I guess. Tony is trying to replicate him to make sure he's not lying out of his ass, but the faster way to do that is to call one of their friends in the community.

The thing that kills me especially about picking Rhodey for the death is that he has not gotten to do a fucking thing in the comics for years. He was all but nonexistent under Gillen and Bendis opened up his run with saying that he wouldn't use Rhodey much. His relationship with Carol was almost "my girlfriend in Canada" levels of developed. He wasn't doing anything or talking to anyone.

And all of a sudden they decide this guy with almost zero recent page time dying is gonna be the thing to drive the wedge between everybody? You can't intentionally give someone zero page time then haphazardly decide he's super fucking important just for his death.

I'm pretty sure a big part of an editor's job since like the 50's has been that they're in charge of looking for continuity errors like that.

I'm sure if they spent more time of CW2 instead of rushing it out, they would've made so Rhodey was a big supporting character in both Captain Marvel and Iron Man at least. Maybe be in another team book in addition to that.
>>
>>83886352
>>
>>83886352
Like about half of the bad Carol plot elements of the past few years, a better writer could have done something with it.

She and Rhodey are in no way incompatible, except that it must be uncomfortable on his part to date a woman he knew pre-mindwipe.
>>
>>83886307
Makes about as much sense as Goliath did.

I do give Bendis a pass on not using Rhodey in his Iron Man much because the Iron Man book has been a mess for years now, so they should get Tony back in a good place before they start making Jim a bigger part.
>>

>because he loves pretending he's a detail obsessed dude like Ewing or Weisman.

God, I wish we could get someone like that as THE writer at one of the Big Two.
Between Weisman putting an almost autistic amount of thought into his works, and Ewing literally taking the time to explain out of character stuff in events (White Tiger's sword in Time Runs Out was literally stolen from a grunt who attacked her, Thanos was weakened after Secret Wars and stole some Shi'Ar guns), it would be great.

Imagine being able to hear an author say "Don't worry, it'll make sense later" and trust that they mean it.
>>
>>83886415
I'd give him more lenience on that for the same reason if he didn't also decide "Hey, I'm gonna cram Mary Jane Watson into this book now."
>>
>>83886331
>Why are editors so useless nowadays?
They have too much power. On paper, an editor's job is to maintain continuity and characterization, correcting mistakes and working with the writers to keep things consistent.

In practice, the current stock of editors are wannabe writers who have become the driving force of the companies. They want the glory, so they force their ideas onto the books despite not being writers, and thus having no idea what they're doing.

I still can't imagine what Legion Rebirth will be like.

I can only hope that Dr. Manhattan's fuckery with them will result in all the best stuff taken from each iteration and combined in a sort of mix and match setting.
>>
>>83887255
>Green Lantern Earth One with Shaner
I would make blood sacrifices to make this happen.
>>
i listened to a War Rocket Ajax interview with Tom Peyer and Mark Waid emailed him Legion questions to troll him. it was great.

they're doing a book together about reverse Shazam now (dude turns into teenager)
>>
>>83887180
He has 10k+ followers after just two issues, Batman won't need to be in the title if King continues
>>
>>83887327
It's going to be Silver Age Legion and they're going to ignore retroboot. Wasn't new 52 Legion Earth 2?
>>
>>83887329
Shaner is too slow tho, it would take 5 years for it to come out
>>
>>83887327

If Legion ends up fighting him I want Manhattan in Time Trapper robes dammit.

this whole rebirth thing is nostalgia so I can't see them not doing a "Best of" lineup (so retroboot + XS and Gates again)
>>
>>83885084
Was Levitz EiC by then?

Was the Superman office handwaving that stuff behind his back or something?
>>
>>83887373
worth it

didn't WWEO take like eight years to come out? I don't even care how long I'd need to wait for King/Shaner GLEO
>>
>>83887338
that's great, hah!

>>83887327
I'm hoping it's kind of the Pan-Legion-Extravaganza Lemire had going, which was largely Retroboot+

no continuity shenanigans, just focus on stories. show new readers WHY they should love everyone.
>>
>>83887379
People almost voted in Gates as Legion prez once, he popular.
>>
>>83887364

That was one line that got ignored when Lemire did JLU's arc

>>83887383

quick wiki scan doesn't look like it
>>
It'll either be this
>>83887364
because they know Legion should be for Legion fans

Or it'll be some kind of reimagining to appeal to the hip kids of today.
>>
>>83887410

I'm hoping so too

at the very least don't start off with anybody dead

Actually, this. That's far too good to pass up.

>>83887364

That was the cop out they went with when everyone got pissed off at all the stupid shit that was going on.

>>
>>83887410
>I'm hoping it's kind of the Pan-Legion-Extravaganza Lemire had going, which was largely Retroboot+
That would work fine. Giving Lemire some credit for his JLU, the Legion was easily the best part of it, even if it was essentially fanwanking.

>>83887417
Ti'Julk being in charge would either the be the best thing ever, or the worst thing ever.

>>83887605
Vertigo really is a displaced Central European aristocrat from another era. I'm a little iffy with how Lemire updated him--he got all the edge of the Balkan conflicts and none of the grandeur/grandiosity.
>>
Simone made me think, if we do that Blackest Night Squad issue we should do that one shot from Secret Six Ostrander did that's Deadshot and Father Cramer talking

Oh. ... O-okay. We'll see how that goes.

In the scene with Imra in Rebirth they called her a woman and Johns is in charge so it's probably a Retroboot-styled thing even if they don't exactly continue from Retroboot itself

Bullshit. Even if you don't like the domestic stuff, Japan's the beer import center of South East Asia.

Never thought I'd say this but, KICK HIS ASS DIGGER!
>>
>>83887683
Johns doesn't really throw around "girl" unless it's strongly age-appropriate, it might just be a gender indicator.
>>
>>83887636
I mean, it would play off well against Ollie-they're both trying to capture the romance of a long-gone era.
>>
>>83887588
I want to rewatch it now with proper context
>>
>>83887742
It's almost impressive how Thinker manages to make Digger look good. That's a whole new level of total fucking cunt.

>>83887683

They won't. EVERYONE hated where Retroboot left off. Everyone.
>>
>>83884735
>“It made it better for the fans. You know, if you like DC, then you hated Marvel. If you like Marvel, then you hated DC.”

Thing is, even in the Silver Age fans begged Stan to quit slagging on DC, because they bought comics from them too. Nobody who isn't a goddamn child or filthy moviefag actually buys into company wars.
>>
>>83887859

I could see Johns just taking off from where LO3W ended. or another such event to start off a rebirth title

also i just got the title is a Flash reference ,,,,,
>>
>>83885619
>>83885647
Man, you'd think someone as inherently deadly as Katana would have been lower on Batman's "to recruit" list. Or would have been deployed more readily against say, the Joker.

Ah well, gonna just No Prize it as not wanting the sword to eat the Joker's soul or something.
>>
>>83887610
>Thanks for reading, everyone: next issue, GRANT MORRISON joins the Squad.

I've heard about this before. Should be fun. Thanks as always OP.

>>83887744
I don't think they would use "woman" over "girl" if the character is meant to be 15 or under like a throwback LoSH would be. Also they talk about calling mental services rather than family services or anything that you'd expect with a child. (I'm probably over analyzing 2 pages of dialogue at this point.)
>>
>>83885733
There's a reason people are cheering her movie look, and the suit in this comic has a good deal to do with it.
>>
>>83887610
I read ahead. It's pretty hilarious. Would read The Writer ongoing.

>>83885325
You know, I think the Khmer Rouge was too chaotic evil even for the most fucked up Soviet. I mean Stalin's purges were out of control, but I don't think he ever ordered people to be killed for wearing glasses or picking wild berries.
>>
>>83886202
>Black supporting characters don't get resurrections

Does that hold true for characters that have had multiple solo series, though?
>>
>>83888262
>You know, I think the Khmer Rouge was too chaotic evil even for the most fucked up Soviet.
They were. Seriously, Pol Pot would find any excuse to kill both citizens and his own officers. Dude was fucking crazy.

The Khmer Rouge is a good example of why cartoonishly grimdark supervillainy simply does not work in real life. The entire regime just collapsed in on itself.
>>
>>83886436
>God, I wish we could get someone like that as THE writer at one of the Big Two.

Remember when that did happen, with Kurt Busiek and Marvel in the late 90s?
>>
>>83887700
Maybe after I finish the three Long-Term storytimes I have in mind, but right now I've already been doing a thing, and I'm just about to get to the good part. Quitting now would be like storytiming Kirby's Fantastic Four and quitting before you get to the Inhumans (and Galactus, more importantly).
>>
>>83886821
Regulations didn't prevent it back then.
>>
>>83888396
Sadly, it's proof that it doesn't work...

...but also that it's not implausible, humanity is quite capable of that level of cartoonish grimdark supervillainy.
>>
>>83890066
Oh, naturally. It's just not at all practical or sustainable, thank fucking goodness.
