I didn't like how by the end of the DCAU these two seemed to switch roles. Diana was more impulsive and violent and Hawkgirl was more empathetic and understanding. It seemed to miss the mark on both characters, and ties into how the rest of modern DC likes pushing Diana as a violent battle freak.

It was... consistent with how he was being written in the comics at the time; he was Hawkgirl's "stalker" so they tried to port that over. (I think that was a Johns idea from his JSA run, right?)

I guess the big problem was the same problem that's always plagued Hawkman. They tried to combine different elements of all the many incarnations of Hawkman and Hawkgirl, the magical Golden age shit, the sci-fi Silver age shit and the modern shit. And they couldn't pull it off.

I think it's mostly because a lot of villains had to be introduced in giant groups so nobody really got to do anything. Sinestro was just kind of a generic bad guy, so were Cheetah and a bunch of others, even Clayface got that and he was a long-established character.

JL/JLU seemed to do a better job with the lesser known villains. Killer Frost was fine, they seemed to like Atomic Skull, Giganta was pretty good too.

At the time, they believed having multiple versions of any character who wasn't Batman would have been too confusing for kids. So by ranking it was Nolan movies>Teen Titans>The Batman>Justice League Unlimited. When Teen Titans ended, Dick Grayson got to be in The Batman, which is also why they introduced Batgirl first.

And Batman is constantly suffering deconstruction at the clumsy hands of airmchair psychoanalysts, so having a villain who embodies that, a disturbed psychiatrist who thinks he truly understands Batman when his psychobabble is actually way off, is really interesting.
