The way I take "trolls don't like fashion" is that 1. they don't typically have really elaborate color palettes, and nothing too bright and flashy and 2. they usually stick to the same outfit. If you look at the ancestors (granted, they were from the past and standard attire was probably different), they had some pretty fancy clothing. Mindfang has a fancy coat and hat, Redglare her Legislacerator outfit.
As long as you don't overdo it, I'd say be a bit less conservative with your troll's fashion choices if it really helps portray the theme.
