Is this movie dead on arrival? Or will casuals save it?

Casuals are already eating this up. You can't stop it.
I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being the highest grossing capeshit of 2016.

This is a skwad world, you're just living in it.
>>
>>83829734
I feel like you need to explain you're thought here a little better? What makes you think it will be dead on arrival and how could casuals save it?
>>
>>83829734
It's going to have a higher RT score than BvS.
Whether or not it will make it to fresh is another thing. On one hand, the critics love fun and humor (see Deadpool) but it being a DC film may cause it to be more criticized.
I predict rotten. Somewhere near MoS and ASM2.
>>
>>83829734
>dead on arrival

Pretty much any time I see it talked about on the internet, people seem excited about it.

I'm looking forward to it.
>>
>>83831007
They were also excited for BvS.
>>
>>83829734
You say that like we have ever had any fucking bearing on the success or failure of these films. Will casuals save it? They're the only ones who matter asshole.
>>
Where do normies talk about movies anyways.
>>
idk why casuals are so into this desu i think there a shit ton of people who pretend to be nerdy and shit so they are like ohhh shit joker and harley quinn i know those names im hyped for this movie haha cgi heath ledger? cooolio
>>
>>83831144

Facebook, mostly.
>>
>>83831007
Yeah but I dont like it because it isn't an exact one to one recreation of ostranders run in 2d (fucking or ie 3 dimensional actors). And if I don't like something that means the general opinion is its bad right? I mean I don't like most shit on account of my refined tastes (I prefer more mature nuanced super hero comic books...not this silly stuff like in the movies were there's no visible sound effects) so I assume my opinion is pretty well respected cos people typically respect critics who say everything is bad (except the stuff I first read as a kid. Its so weird but for some reaso that stuff was good but as I got older and more cynical everything got worse...strange coincidence).

I mean I guess people might go see it even though I think its dumb. Oh wait....CASUALS! They're dumb and dont get pristine works of literature like the comics I enjoyed as a child. Maybe they'll watch it.

The dummies.

>>
Early 'boxoffice.com' prediction is 98 million opening weekend (which would beat Guardians of the Galaxy August record) but if reviews are good it will probably do quite a bit higher due to Batman, Joker & Harley Quinn.
>>
I'm really sick of the Joker (anything Batman related really) so I'm going to wait and hear how much of the movie is centered around him before seeing it.

it will be fine.

won't set records with critics or box office but it will make money and not be irredeemable garbage.

because David Ayer is a good director and not whatever Zack Snyder is and Suicide Squad isn't in the shadow of a past beloved movie version like Superman was.

a bit bummed over the influx of Bat villains but I can deal with it. I like Killer Croc anyway.
>>
>>83831384
I would. But just cos I don't seeing it beat out civil war.

That being said I do not get people who think itll flop.

Its got far more positive buzz than bvs did from trailers, its got a live action harley quinn for the first time ever, a sexy crazy joker, will smith, a cool style and look, and interesting and funny looking ensemble cast. Like what is it that people think will sink this ship. A not quite accurate interpretation of deadshots personality?
Come on folks.

Young ladies are gonna go for harley and leto, dudes cos comic movie with action and batman shit. General audience members who see comic movies will see it because the trailers made it look like a funny actiony and exciting movie based on a comic. Its not bombing unless it gets the worlds worst press on release.
And even then look how much money bvs made despite being shat upon by every third ass in the universe.
>>
>>83831579
BvS was a massive flop in hindsight.
>>
>>83831306

>>
>>83831579
>Like what is it that people think will sink this ship.
Word of mouth and what it's following. Batman isn't the get out of jail free card it used to be.
>>
>>83831635
Yeah people who say that don't understand the term flop or grossly exagerrate bvs advertising budget so it wouldn't break even unless it made a billion and a half or some ludicrous shit.
>>
>>83831773
Yeah again it'll have to be absolutely reviled for word of mouth to overcome what it has in its favor
>>
>>83829734

Depends, casuals are thinking they're getting another Guardians of the Galaxy film but word on the street says this film is far from it. The suits at WB are aware of this and hence the reshoots to make it more humorous. However the problem is that the reshoots are not syncing well with the rest of the film.

This. It never matters what /co/ thinks.. because it is a tiny tiny insignificant sliver of the movie going public.

The first trailer was the Comic Con only and David Ayers said it Comic-Con when it was shown that it would be more funny.

I don't understand why this movie exists at this point in time.

Like, this is a movie you do later. This is a movie you do after a Batman standalone, where Joker and Harley square down with Batman and Robin, ending with Robin's death, followed maybe by a darker Batman's descent into grief and rage culminating with a catastrophic alien smackdown in Metropolis, followed by having an anonymous son forced upon you against your will after your previous failure, but over time together you overcome your grief to become the Batman the new Justice League needs.

But no, lets do an lolrandum movie with a cast nobody cares about. Rated R.

Outside of the US, DC capeshit doesn't sell particularly well. Most of the characters don't have much in the way of recognition factor. there isn't fanbase for the characters so I don;t see it generating much buzz.

Guardians had Marvel Momentum and solid word of mouth. DC has no momentum but Suicide Squad could still get positive reviews and build up the word of mouth.

I'll give you Joker and Harley but Wills lost a lot of that buzz over the last few years. Batman being in it will help more than Will.

Thus why I said "Plenty of people will see it just for Robbie/Harley and Batfleck."

They'll generate enough buzz for it to make a profit, but not enough to make this movie a billion dollar blockbuster.

That being said I hope Boomerbutt steals the Fucking show, but I don't care if this movie does well or not, I already got what I wanted from it, and that was to have DC reprint all of the orginal Suicide Squad comics by Ostrander.

Spoilers leaked. So far they've been pretty accurate.

A.R.G.U.S. operative Amanda Waller decides to assemble Task-Force X due to the expanding superhuman community, offering supervillains reduced sentences in exchange for performing suicide missions for the United States government. She selects Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Boomerang, Killer Croc, El Diablo and Slipknot to integrate the team and has them transferred to Belle Reve Penitentiary.

Deadshot is a former military sniper turned hitman to cover his daughter's medical expenses. He is confronted by Batman while targeting a mobster and Batman volunteers to cover Deadshot's daughter's treatment if Deadshot willingly surrenders, which he does.

Batman also interrupts a deal between the Joker and weapons dealer Monster T and rescues Harley Quinn when the Joker abandons her after their car falls into the river. The Joker then decides to get Harley back.

El Diablo is a former enforcer for a Los Angeles gang who has become a pacifist and doesn't want to use his powers anymore. Killer Croc is a cannibal who lives in the sewers, and Boomerang and Slipknot are amoral mercenaries. Batman captured them all in the past.

Rick Flagg is assigned to lead the Suicide Squad, with Katana as his bodyguard. Flagg is a military man and a loose canon with a history of insubordination, while Katana is a silent warrior who wields the Soultaker, a magic sword that traps people's souls, and seeks redemption for her late husband's crimes.

Meanwhile, adventurer June Moon, Flagg's girlfriend, is sent to investigate reports of supernatural activity in Europe by Waller, who believes these reports could be misinterpreted signs of extraterrestrial activity on Earth. June ends up being infected by the Enchantress, an ancient feral witch, whose heart is aprehended by A.R.G.U.S and kept in Waller's possession.

The Enchantress slowly corrupts June, who besiesges Midway City and attempts to unleash her brother, the Incubus. The Suicide Squad is sent by Waller to investigate and aprehend the Enchantress as a potential asset. The Joker and his men find out about them and shoot down their helicopter in Midway City, leaving them stranded with only the Bravo 17 Navy Seal unit as mission support.

Boomerang encourages Slipknot to escape, and Waller detonates a bomb in Slipknot's neck, killing him. The team is then ambushed by monsters sent by the Enchantress and pursued to an abandoned building, but eventually escape with El Diablo's help.

The team proceeds to the Enchantress' whereabouts in the subway line, while also being pursued by the Joker and his men. The Enchantress unleashes the Incubus, with Monster T as his host, and then kidnaps Waller to retrieve her heart and unleash Hell on Earth. With Waller compromised, the team is given an opportunity to escape, but decide to stick together and save the world.

The Joker kidnaps Harley and attempts to force her to return with him, but she refuses, and he escapes when the others come to rescue her. The Suicide Squad confronts the Enchantress in the Museum of Natural History, where Deadshot rescues Waller. Harley destroys the heart, freeing June from the Enchantress' influence, and Flagg saves June while El Diablo sacrifices himself to destroy the Incubus, saving the world and earning his redemption.

Waller has the surviving members of the Suicide Squad arrested once again, although Batman later arranges a meeting between Deadshot and his daughter in prison. She conscripts Deadshot, Harley, Boomerang, Croc and Katana to further missions under Flagg's command.

In the end, the Joker breaks into Belle Reve to rescue Harley, still smitten after she stood her ground and denied his every whim, and they lock eyes and smile.

He'll get Slipknot killed just to test the bombs and i-ll be happy with that, he'll try and flirt with Harley a d get rejected, but, if that fucking bastard does not say Strewth at least once, I fucking kill someone.
>>

Harley is the main character.

Deadshot is a textbook Will Smith character.

No Harley/Deadshot romance although they're allies from the onset.

Joker has roughly 30 minutes of screentime, mininal interaction with Batman and doesn't do much other than create Harley and then chase after her.

Boomerang and Killer Croc are comic relief and don't do much. Neither does Katana, who has little dialogue. El Diablo is the only one with a more pronounced arc and resolution.

Scott Eastwood and Alex Meraz are just members of the Bravo 17 team, not noteworthy comic book characters.

The third act is being reestructured in accordance with negative feedback from test-screenings.

>It's going to have a higher RT score than BvS.

Just like My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2!

> the critics love fun and humor (see Deadpool)

Mmmn, that's not really a solid argument. It plays out of the "BvS was panned because muh fun" argument, which itself was made by people who honed in on that word in the review summaries and ignored the substantive (and substantiated) complaints in the body of those reviews.

> it being a DC film may cause it to be more criticized

By this I can only assume that you mean it will attract more reviews from major outlets because it has a bigger media push.

>>83829864
Ehhhhh... we haven't really seen a whole lot other than the ripoff Debbie Harry costume outselling Wonder Woman at Halloween last year (which is traditionally when a lot of hookers update their wardrobe, and is also reasonable since unlike Wonder Woman you can probably blend into a crowd wearing it, even if you're just having a night out - because at that time it was more anonymous) and the "big trailer views = big money" argument. As far as the last one goes, I'm sure you know what rubbernecking is.

>>83829734
Too soon to call. I doubt it's going to make big money tho; something around the lower end of profitability (unless they went full WB on the budget, in which case that won't be enough and it's doomed to a Superman Returns failure).

>>83831340
But those tracking predictions are based on "similar" movies, which is usually just whatever has the closest keyword match (which depends on a human operator) that was previously released, preferably close to that date - so it might literally be tracking based on Guardians and BvS, crudely averaged.

August last year was kind of a dead zone; MI did well - Cruise does - but the next best release was Straight Outta Compton, and it didn't make nearly enough to justify the Skwad budget. Better luck this year?

Since when has 1 billion become this magical number that decides if a movie succeeds or fails? Movies can be huge successes without breaking that. Seems kinda abitrary to me, and another sign of how absurdly overhyped blockbusters are. Suicide Squad wasn't as expensive as BvS.
>>
>>83837283
>It ain't me

>>83837640
Because ever since the Dark Knight came out in 2008, it's gotten easier and easier to break a billion dollars. Not to mention... I mean, it's a lot of money. So that helps.

Not to mention they have to make up for the BvS loss too. They're trying to finance a cinematic universe here.

It's an interesting interpretation of the Joker. And I'll admit that interpreting the Joker is hard.

Basically you've got Gotham and it's rampant with corruption and organised crime. Batman arrives and together with Jim Gordon (and Harvey before he goes off the rails) the organized crime is removed. In that vacuum you have new costumed villains taking over.

Joker in a way is the first and purest of those costumed villains, and he has some kind of weird love/hate obsession with Batman. But how does the Joker inspire others? How does the Joker get others to work with him? Is it just because he keeps being able to bust out of Arkham and everyone is inspired by that?

The original music is overrepresented as shit, and it's really not that great, but putting literally who (who doesn't seem to even ever had any vocal lessons, by the way, and is consistently flat) next to Mercury sounds absolutely fucking horrible. Not to mention all the shitty falsettos.

The only passable parts are when the piano has slightly more complicated arpeggios and he has to focus and you stop hearing his voice and the sample stands out.

Not to mention the copied guitar solo and pedals and shimmer effects. I think he learned it from a fucking tab.

There was a reason the Queen never played it live. Fucking vocalists ruin everything.
