She's used the crimson bands of cyttorak, vapors of valtorr, and divinations from the moons of munnopor. This was before she had the much later depicted instruction on magic from Dr. Strange himself.
At the moment, when she's away from her version of Limbo she's reduced to using her soul sword and armor but can also call upon stock basic spells (a wide array of them) that Doc Strange throws around on a whim. Inside of Limbo however, all bets are off on what she can do - which includes feats like resurrection of the dead or bitch slapping boss infernal entities dumb enough to trespass there.

She really is, she is pretty weak and most of her "magik" was teleporting in demons which listened to her because she was their lord. She has probably done only a handful of spells in the 20-30 years she has been around. She is just Illyana the bus driving swordsmen right now. Also people mix up that she makes portals and not teleporting all the time which leads to moments where she is stronger/faster than she should be.

Isn't that basically what spellcasting is in the Marvel universe? Most of Doctor Strange's spells are him invoking the powers of some mystical entity or other and directing them at a target. Being able to call the actual entity to show up in person just makes things simpler.

Most writers just stick to the "sword and teleport" because that's what is most utility about her. During the OG New Mutants, she was easily the most powerful of them all and constantly teleported them out of danger - but since she was raised by a demon her lack of sanity fucked them all over. That's the trade off that made her an interesting character.

Now that she's not half-crazy anymore, she's just an OP Mary Sue if need be - or the writers just conveniently forget her skillsets.

But that's not to say she should go back to that, the whole "I trust Crazyclops and will follow him no matter what" makes sense when you think about how she's more crazy than any crazy Cyke-O can be.
And that experience was all about her gradually being accepted by the group as not the scariest adult there.
So now she's valued as a team-member by the only people that would ever take in the She-Devil of Limbo, it's probably the happiest pre-pedoHell point in her life playing out right now. So even her current nice mood makes sense.

She only spent a couple years directly under Belasco, the rest she spent alone or with Cat/Storm so she'd wouldn't do it reflexively. More importantly, she hates pretty much everything about Limbo so she would probably take extra care to avoid praising things she hates.

I think her Gillen arc works better if it had happened before she got her soul reunited. I think her Bendis stuff would be better if there was more hints that she was putting on an act to try to be the person she wanted to be. The Lemire stuff also makes sense in that view, although it is sloppy.

Imagine I told you that I need to kill your parents/boss/teacher/etc. and that any timeline where I don't leads to ruin. Brian pls. Not everything is shipping. Illyana is one of the few characters that should hold Magneto in higher regard than Xavier so it would have been nice to show some of that. Also, Bendis' preference for Kitty above all others is clear as day and back in the day Kitty called the NM "X-babies" and threw a shit fit when she got assigned to that squad so he probably didn't read that series, leading to his ignorance of their (non-sexual) relationship.

I think you've misunderstood the pic I posted, which is understandable based on where we are. Magneto is teaching Illyana about the importance of confronting the negative aspects of your personality and life. It's something he's done previously in Claremont's Uncanny run.

I would have hoped Bendis would reference this, as it's one of the best life lessons scenes in New Mutants and would have also been applicable tot he story he was telling. Or, you could have a scene where Mangeto feels guilty about his failures in Inferno or something.

But we didn't get much in Bendis's Uncanny run besides interesting art and some lame new kids that are already forgotten.

The Dark Lords are what Belasco referred to as his masters aka The Elder Gods. Those were the guys he wanted to release on earth by turning all of Illyana's soul into blood gems. They were the sole reason for everything bad that ever happened to Illyana.
She isn't very fond of them and in fact they are all dead now and she murdered them herself.
