I dug it. Loved the idea of a mundane superman task having to be dealt with by batman. Saving crashing planes just isn't a batman type activity and it was pretty exciting. I'm not hot on the superman and supergirl analogues in gotham. I feel like unless king does something clever its gonna end in one of the really obvious cliché ways.

Also yeah arts not bad but....I'm sorry its no capullo. But who is. I feel like that guys gothic dark and detailed style might go down as batman art at its finest.

Still overall I enjoyed the fuck out of this issue.

I thought this issue was really good. There wasn't a ton of 'writing' to be done given that most of this was just an action set piece to introduce the story, but for what its purpose it, I think it accomplishes it very well. I'm really excited to keep reading to see where it goes.

They're definitely original characters. There's no way they're gonna put a fan favorite like King on this book and give him his big shot to shine and then saddle him out of the gate with all of those decades of loaded history. He wouldn't have been given the book if his pitch was based on moving backwards instead of forwards.

They're gonna sit back and see what he can do (at least at the start) just like they did with Snyder on Court of Owls.

Really liked this. My only problems are that some of the dialogue felt awkward (Alfred saying "your city", and the unnecessary "mother and father" for example) and it was a bit decompressed.

As someone who abhors Batgod and likes seeing a more human side of Bruce it is definitely odd seeing him so... resigned and questioning, I guess, at what he thinks is the end of his life. It's emotional padding to fill out a scene that so obviously to the reader isn't the end, and that makes it ring completely hollow.
