The Witch cartoon was nothing compared to the comic book, and that run for over 100 issues.
It run so much its fans were asking tptb to kill it because it had jumped the shark many issues before.

I read Witch from my sister's collection. I tuned in on Winx from the very beginning.

But goddamnit why are Male Characters in girl shows so fucking insufferable? Always sidelined pompous douches. Generic prince charmings or silent brooding assholes.

But then I turn to anime and see girls being shallow cutesy moeblobs. Or 2deep4u psychopaths.

Is there a middleground?

Yes.

But it's certainly not a common middleground. Most shows like this either focus on the female cast or focus on the male cast, either ignoring the other side or letting them play minor sidekicks. And most of the shows which you might expect to do well instead typically have the stereotypical girl to round out the cast.
