Good news: this is actually a very, very ancient trope. As in, quite a lot of mythological "fool" figures were also considered the wisest, mainly due to having the ability to look at a situation from more than simply the established standard angle.

Joke Characters becoming Godly is one of my favourites.
>>
>>83726796
>Ice King is an enlightened monk type, offering sage wisdom to those who climb his mountain, jokingly referred to as Ice King because nobody else would ever live up there like he does; doesn't really have much of an opinion on matriarchal monarchy
>Queen Saltwater Taffy is a monarch that doesn't care much for her subjects, but shows a deep admiration for her "little helpers", as she likes to call them, as they are remarkable at defeating those who'd keep her from expanding her territory; sometimes has twangs of goodness poke through, much to her dismay
>Finn Mertens and Jake The Dog are two upstart villains trying to make a name for themselves, which is difficult in a world that doesn't value villainy other than the cost for your bounty; thankfully they've got friends all over OOO (that's OOO with the letters flipped backwards) that know their pain...
>Marceline is a half-angel fashionista that loves shopping, almost as much as she loves her lover, QST! Her favorite hobbies are:
>drinking the black out of stuff
>having fun with her friends, who she never wants to be very far away from
>getting a tan, and
>playing the family guitar, which she would never do anything with it, like turning it into an axe or something
>Nosnuh Reedaba is the commander of the angels from the Dayapyramid, an overwhelming force of goodness, much to the ire of the protagonists; once ate his daughter's fries, causing her to run away from home (because not everything needs to be changed)
>Billy is a technolich obsessed with the destruction of all organic life, due to his previously unfulfilling life as an adventurer hero, which always had the meatbags crying for his help saving them from every little thing that looked at them funny
>The Lich, ironically named, is a man who wants to live forever, gathering as much power as possible, as he wishes to live his life to the fullest and help the people of OOO and the universe, a true hero in these trying times; was defeated once by Billy
>>

And the complementary:

>the badass character used to be useless
>>
>>83732438
>Joker character's love ones get hurt, he get serious and is actually terrifying
>>
>>83727076
Not gonna lie I almost always love this no matter what the outcome
>governments paranormal team fails to subdue the big bad, showcasing his strength is such that even the military can't contain it
>government creates it's own paranormal team in response to a huge threat
>government paranormal team successfully captures/subdues the enemy, setting up for a future arc where the start (ab)using its power for political purposes
Maybe I just like it because it's a bit more better than the usual, "shoot it. That didn't work? Drop a nuke on it!" Also it always seems silly when in a universe where magic is proven to exist the government wouldn't have a top notch paranormal branch.

>>
>it's a pseudo clip-show episode, with scenes that either never happened, or they did and the clips show a new perspective, effectively becoming a new episode

Can only think of a /co/ show that did it, but there are a bunch, I'm sure:
A:TLA with "the ember island players"
Scrubs with "My deja vu my deja vu"
Community with the clip-show episode where every single scene was new.
>>
>>83734192
The first thing I thought of was the Strong Bad E-Mail called "personal favorites" where Strong Bad is asked what his favorite sbemails were. The first couple he lists were real sbemails and then everything after that were ones that didn't really happen, yet it was all played completely straight and they never acknowledged that those weren't actual clips of things that happened before.
>>
As much as I hate Naruto, especially shippuden for numerous reasons I'm not going to list, killer bee was so fucking cool because of this archetype. Him wrecking uchiha shit was the best.
>>
>>83734265
Yeah, sounds like the community episode, where they all reminisce about things from "previous episodes" that never actually happened yet make sense within the show's general story.

"My deja vu my deja vu" is subtler because they build an episode about the repetitive nature of working in a hospital, so they recreate a bunch of scenes (reshot) and string together some re-used jokes during the whole episode. "It's pronounced ah-nalgesic. Sir, the pills go in your mouth". It was pretty neat. Scrubs was such a great fucking show.

same. in a world where magic, superhero's, giant robots/ giant monsters etc,etc exist It makes sense that the Gmen have there own counter response. which if definitely more interesting/ cooler then just using a nuke.

their almost always shown as cannon fodder or villains but I find the concept cool nonetheless heck sometimes their even shown as competent "good guys" like in the first example I posted the part where they invade hell and run over Charon with amphibious assault planes was awesome as shit I don't care who you are or where your from

>>
>cold-open of previously-established secondary protagonist in the aftermath of betraying his comrades to the villains
>story goes on long enough even audience starts to believe it's a straight-up betrayal
>secondary protagonist pulls a last-minute double-cross with the help of one comrade who was in on the ruse the whole time; daring feats are performed, good guys are saved from imminent doom, etc.

Bonus points if literary or audio/visual cues are sprinkled throughout the story to hint at the outcome without spelling it out
>>
The villain overcomes mind control or an eldritch abomination just because he's THAT FUCKING STRONG WILLED.

Alternatively, a villain or anti-hero using an "evil" or "dark" power source without being mentally effected, because he's just that strong willed/and or "beyond good and evil".

It still doesn't make sense for half of them. Like I can understand Evil Finn/Jake and Angel Marceline/Dad, but why is the Ice King a monk? Why is Magic Man a knight? Why is Hotdog Princess some sort of popsicle thing and why is slime princess just a skeleton? And why is Starchy just some evil looking dude? It doesn't even look like he's a candy person.
>>
>>83728342
>when they fight the heroes fight against the villain with the power they know they can beat rather than their own

Nah, my favorite is when they go up against their doppelganger first, but can't beat themselves. Then they realize they have to switch off and fight each other's.

And to add a new one:

>characters can combine powers
>when different characters combine, different powers show up
>show goes through all the possible combinations

It's one of the reasons Steven Universe gets me. I love that shit.

My hero academia. It's pretty top tier in that department.
>>

>Why is Magic Man a knight? Why is Hotdog Princess some sort of popsicle thing and why is slime princess just a skeleton?

Shwig (I'm pretty sure that's Shwig's art) decided to go not just evil but completely inverse with a lot of the characters. So the crazy magician becomes a stoic melee fighter. A cold hot dog might be a popsicle. And a Slime Princess without her slime is a dusty skeleton.

>when the fight revolves completely around one character trying to accomplish a task and the other is trying to stop them.

Action set pieces in CO/ related stuff that's the center of the action is rare but good. ie: stopping a train, trying to grab some object.

Favorite example is actually in Kill Bill Vol. 2. One eyed butch keeps trying to unsheath the sword. Half the fight is her not allowing her to. Really well choreographed.

It's always hype as fuck. The end of Gurren Lagan where each larger robot gets blasted away until finally it's just him and his fists punching the antispiral end boss is the hypest animated sequence I have ever seen.
Or the end of FMA: Brotherhood where ed is punching father to death after he gets his arm back. Holy fuck.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
Only the main villains get badass powers like time stop or explosive touch and shit.

Everyone else is stuck with
>can shoot finger nails
>can turn small objects into small animals
>can fix things
>can create zippers
>can dinosaur
>can airplane
>can control people's bodies, but only when they are injured on their hands and feet, and only when he is standing directly above them.
>can instantly shred peoples bodies, fly, detach limbs, teleport, and heal wounds, but only when its raining.

jojo is all about making the best of what you got. it doesnt matter how retarded the power is, it is absolutely lethal.
for instance one guy can travel to alternate timelines but only when stuck between two solid objects. so he weaponizes an american flag to vanish at will, summon alt universe copies, and cause paradoxes that annihilate people.

If the hero's just backed into a corner and pulls it out of his ass, it's trite bullshit.

If the series had an emphasis on the friendships of the main characters in the first place, and gets you invested in them, and the "friendship attack" is or reasonably approaches the very real bonds of people facing adversity, then it's the kind of thing that needs to be told, no matter how charmingly cheesy it may be. It's a prime example of the shit people mock shonen for but the genre would be far poorer without.

God I hated that show

>the prophecy foretells the coming of a great hero that will save everyone and defeat the villains
>protagonist already defeated the guy in the prophecy

Thank you Fist of the North Star.

Didn't he also have his own music that played when he entered/left?

>would be enemy character allies himself with the main cast
>encourages his people to cooperate and work with the good guys
>turns out he's actually a huge piece of shit who doesn't believe any of it and hates the ever living guts out of the main cast
>the one and only reason he's doing doing it is because it's the only way to ensure the survival of his people

Star Trek is the only place I've ever seen it, sort of. I really want more. I was hoping to see it in Star Wars, but sadly, no.

I still love the fact the Federation and Klingons are allies in TNG because they basically put themselves in the crossfire despite being outgunned and knowing it was suicide.

Shit gets me going when two parties develop a serious respect for each other and team up despite past aggression. The fact Picard was basically the only one the Klingon High Council could trust to give an unbiased decision is also great as fuck.

>character claims to have amnesia

>theyre lying

It's always a pleasant surprise when a show looks like it's gonna pull a trope you hate, but actually ends up pulling one you love
