Now, I know what you're thinking Anons.
>"These Deadly Hands of Kung Fu stories are pretty good, but weren't you doing a Power Man and Iron Fist storytime? What does this series have to do with them?"
WELL LOOK WHO'S FINALLY SHOWED UP!
>>83704248
Since I have the day off today, and I missed yesterday, let's try and catch up on what we SHOULD'VE done yesterday if my modem didn't decide to stop working, shall we?
>Steel Serpent
No, this isn't Davos. For some reason, there's just another dude called the Steel Serpent in Marvel, completely unrelated to the other one.
This makes the Warlock situation seem normal.
And he's also a guy Iron Fist fights. Do you think this gets confusing?
>>83704248
>>83704353
Loving you, anon. You're a chill bro.
So assuming this is supposed to be Professor Wing, this takes place early in Iron Fist's series, before he met the Steel Serpent that actually becomes relevant.
>>83704479
Stop, you'll make me blush, Anon.
Okay, so this page is weird. I think that top panel is the only time Marvel ever implies that Yu-Ti is actually a physical fighter, at least enough to take out a guy who seems to be a big deal.
... How does this help your plan? "Give me the throne of K'un Lun or I kill Iron Fist?" Based on what we've seen of Yu-Ti, he'd probably call you on that, and then he'd apparently kick your ass anywa.
And this is a shortened version of Danny's origin for those who weren't here when we did it the first time.
I once had my foot stepped on by a fat kid with soccer cleets. Spiked boots must be more pain than can possibly be imagined.
I would really love to see an artist who is good at drawing fight scenes do an Iron Fist book. I only know of two maybe three western artists who excel at it, on of them used to draw Batgirl ( Cassandra Cain). Damian Scott i think his name was.
As I said last time we saw her, Mommah Rand is fucking hardcore. Hell, this version even has her say that when they both get out, they're BOTH going to kill him.
>>83704979
Do you mean you want one to do it today, or are you criticizing his older books? Because the older stuff (and that's where we're still at) had some good action.
That said, I may just have a poor eye for such things, so take my opinions with a grain of salt.
>"If there is anything you want, speak it and we shall try and grant it."
>"I want revenge."
Remember, he's fucking nine.
Since it doesn't seem to ever be mentioned outside the early days, I want to point it out once more.
Shou-Lao was made to basically be immortal. His heart was removed from his body and it sent its chi to the dragon, specifically to the scar on its chest. What Danny (and every other Iron Fist) did to beat him was cover the scar with his own body, preventing the chi from entering the dragon, until it died. Then they went to the heart itself, pounded their hands into the heart until they took the Chi into their own body. The Iron Fist power isn't Danny's own chi, but the Chi of the Shao-Lao, and THAT is what can be stolen.
I just realized, we never actually see what happened to the cape. I wish he'd wear that more often.
So this whole "Death Blow" thing reminds me of that one BTAS episode.
Okay, I get he's a big kung fu master, but how does he know how to work such complex machines?!
what
Well, he may have gotten his ass kicked, but Bob doesn't seem to mind too much.
You got your Doctor Strange in my Kung Fu comic!
Good work Anon. Shame we'll never get a Cass Cain & Iron Fist crossover due Marvel & DC not willing to do crossovers.
>>83705899
I'd settle for Richard Dragon vs. Shang-Chi, but we won't get that either.
Truly we live in the darkest of timelines.
>>83705899
We'll always have those two or three drawfag pics of Cass in the green and yellows.
>>83706024
Wait, what? I need to see this.
I'm confused. Google tells me that "Amerika" is a word used to refer to a super liberal and communist america (like what /pol/ thinks America would become if Bernie wins). But this guy seems to be the exact opposite of the kind of guy who'd use that word. Was it just a typo?
>>83706070
A couple of drawfags drew Cass dressed as Iron Fist a few eons ago:

>>83706373
The classic look with extreme cleavage looks silly on women, but the Immortal Iron Fist costume looks great.
Was this before Bendis and The Living Weapon gave him the shit ones, or did some good taste anons not request them?
>>83706451
Way, way before. I think it was right after the end of Immortal Iron Fist.
I get that this was a serious deal in the 70's, but 40 years later I find this entire concept hilarious, mostly because I doubt the kind of students who would hold these views would actually start a legit riot instead of just whining on social media.
>>83706451
IIF costume is pretty, regardless the gender. It was Aja, right? That guy know his stuff.
So do you think Fu Manchu has the same monkey and half-naked woman with him every time, or do you think he has one at each base?
Who's the idiot throwing rocks?
>>83704248
You taking a night off, and 4chan breaking let me catch up!
Sons of the Tiger is, overall, a stronger narrative. Much better internally connected than Shang Chi. Shang's somewhat alien kung fu Jesus thing is fun, but outside of the arc where he moves to LA, is kinda disjointed. Maybe it reads better with the comic series as a companion?
>>83706802
I haven't actually read Master of Kung Fu. I know the Sons of the Tiger barely appear outside of this, so they get more development here, as they don't have to worry about stepping over other writer's toes.
>>83704491
For a second, I thought Donahue was Iron Fist. Maybe like a previous Incarnation.
And speaking of "Kung Fu Jesus", here's Shang-Chi taking a bullet for an ungrateful little shit.Alien Jesus, you say? Gives me ideas for after we finish this...
>>83706897
It's not until Immortal Iron Fist that it is made clear that there were other Iron Fists. One run seems to state that there never were, but only if you think about what is said in it.
Is this guy supposed to be familiar?
>>83706950
>Gives me ideas for after we finish this...
There's a graphic novel version of Stranger in a Strange Land?
>>83707177
No, and I have no intentions of saying what it is because it'll be months until we actually get to it, depending on if I'm going to spare you from Bendis's Luke Cage.
>"And in growing Giant I have also developed a tan."
Remember when this was just three guys fighting the ninjas who killed their kung fu master? Look at where we're at now.
>>83704626
So this basically turns "Steel Serpent" into a title for any failed Iron Fist candidate, doesn't it?
Speaking of relatively modern Luke Cage, did you all see the storytime for Azzarello's Cage MAX that was posted a few days ago?
>>>83566104
When it's deleted from the archives in a little over a week, check for "Cage Storytime" by "MKdude".
>>83707497
There's really only the two guys. I feel like an editor should've told one of them to change the name, since it's not like they had a copyright to worry about.
>James Bond
Oh fuck off, that doesn't count as Kung Fu!
>>83705094
Lei Kung looks like he forgot something important and just remembered it.
Like, "Oh shit, I forgot to feed Zhou's dog for the three weeks he'd asked me too"
Is that one Anon who's been asking for Rudy Nebres attending tonight? Because he's finally here!
>>83705235
Walking through that nearly knee deep snow in his kung fu booties seems a good path to frostbite.
Okay, why is Shang Chi even in this magic show if he already knows the secret?
>>83707869
Something something dragon chi
So does DC have a trademark on the name "Shadow Thief" or is that common enough that anyone can use it?
So I randomly googled "elixir vitae" to see if it's trademarked with Fu Manchu. Apparently it isn't since there used to be a coffee shop by the name.
>>83706334
>>83706366
Steven Universe grown up?
I'm amazed that Shang-Chi didn't think of incest for a single second.
>>83708356
Well he grows a freaking mane when he grows up, as opposed to the Jew Fro he's rockin' now.
So is this the first ninja that has been fought by these Kung Fu guys who DIDN'T die?
>Black Man
>Last name is Brown
I'm suddenly reminded of a comedy bit that goes like this, but I can't remember who said it. Something like Chris Rock is doing a show, and sees a dressing room with "Black" written on it, and gets mad, only to find out that Jack Black is there too?
>>83708826
I went to high school with a girl named Ebony Brown
>>83709007
Please tell me she was albino or a race other than black.
So was this guy popular at the time or something? It seems odd to do a story with only one of the SonS of the Tiger.
>>83709077
No she was black
Oh hey, Scimitar is back!
>>83706589
Well, the whole Occupy thing was basically that kind of protest, but it petered out limply and faced vastly more effective police kettling.
>>83709417
Occupy's biggest problem is the one most modern movements has. No leader and no outright goals on paper mean that any twit could say they were a part of it and nobody in the group can kick them out. We can argue over the other flaws it had, and there were a lot worth mentioning, but that's one a lot of groups have.
But let's try not to get into politics, unless it involves ninjas. And unless it's the time Bush dodged a shoe thrown at him, that's not much modern politics.
>>83707308
Geez, Abe, enough staring up his skirt, you perv.
>>83709679
If bad comedies have taught me anything, he's comparing cock sizes.
Why did they steal her clothes, but leave her underwear?
Oh, so all of the three are just getting their own solo issue. That makes more sense.
>>83706334
It was used to imply a Nazi America too. I know confusing.-Oldfag
>>83710019
So basically it's a catch-all term for when America is "the enemy"?
Let's see if we can just fill up the thread tonight. Normally I don't mind them, but tonight, no reaction pictures please.
>>83706
If there was a draft, there would be riots on college campuses again
You don't get to take that title, Bob Diamond.
>"That's a stage-gun! It only fires blanks, you idiot!"
This seems like the kind of thing that a writer would add-in when an artist did something they didn't like. How Stan Lee changed the entire tone of a Spider-Man page by having him cheer on protestors instead of heckle them like Ditko wanted.
Do they even use props like this now?
What is this, three Brucee Lee issues they've done so far?
>>83706722
Ducharme is a constant figure at least.
Then again, he does seem like the type who'd give his concubines the same name.
Everyone name your favorite Bruce Lee ripoff! My favorite is early Kenshiro.
>>83710079
The 'k' is supposed to look German or Russian
I hope he solves this by tying the snaked together.
>>83707023
Another Kent State, great.
...Think they'll charge the students for getting shot this time too?
>>83707023
Man, Shang-Chi just cannot catch a break. Every story seems to end on a damn downer.
>>83709417
70s protests were about VietNam, which was already unpopular. Occupy was about restructuring capitalism, which average folks couldn't wrap their brains around.
In tbe VietNam era there was a draft so people really had skin in the game; it was life or death in a more immediate way.
Of he could just destroy the spikes. That'll work.
I apologize for these shitty scans. The other series have better ones.
>>83707548
>>83707567
Wait, they're in a Kung Fu duel with GOD?
Well, why the fuck not?
>>83710901
That sounds like the end of most JRPGs I've played.
>>83707585
Kung Fu Duel with Future would be God, and his zombie minions.
This is starting to hurt mah head.
Seriously, all this time and that woman hasn't just stolen something to cover herself? You'd think she'd get chilly.
Huh, a Dark-Tiger God.
>>83706802
There is more of a plot with Master of Kung Fu, there's recurring characters and Shang Chi in general is much more focused on defeating his father. Deadly Hands Shang Chi is more "I'll wander around and if I manage to thwart Dad's evil plans, that's good too."
And now, the Annual. With Iron Fist!
>>83706334
I thought it was a Kafka reference.
Wait, so this guy is all black even under the clothes?
>>83708497
>Communist China
>Wanting ancient artifacts not to be destroyed
Huh?
>>83708165
>Implying Fu Manchu didn't own that coffee shop
>Implying it wasn't staffed by gorillas who knew Kung Fu.
>Implying he didn't blow it up.
And since my network is crapping out again, let's finish with this issue.
>>83708231
Shang, you've never driven a car in your damn life.
>>83708826
Actually, a lot of slaves freed after the Civil War took Brown as a surname from the abolitionist John Brown.
>>83712408
Really? Huh, go figure.
>>83712398
Maybe he read a book on it?
>>83712342
I can't decide if I'd be horrified by a coffee shop run by gorillas, or if I'd want to go there even more for the sheer novelty of it.
Isn't this how the bad guy in Tarzan died?
There was a black and white reprint of the second Iron Fist story in between these two stories, but it was literally a reprint. so I didn't bother posting it.
>>83712300
China flip flopped on this matter a few times, and lied about it.
I know a few movies where the plot is based around preserving Chinese artifacts and keeping them within their borders, Legend of the Drunken Master, for instance.
But yeah the communists would also destroy them, because they're fucking commies and won't abide bling.
>>83710454
I feel like you'd be better off looking for issues that don't mention Bruce Lee on the cover.
>>83710496
Fei Long.
>>83712607
"X is the Next Bruce Lee" doesn't count.
>>83708532
How will Shang Chi ever overcome this guy's theater buddies?
>>83711638
Now this is totally a reprint from Shang-Chi's solo.
So this Man-Thing story reminds me, I finally read enough Swamp Thing to reach Alan Moore's run, and am about to read the issue where Constantine first appears.
>>83712713
I'll allow those, because we haven't already read them.
>"Father, I'm told you want to rule the world, not help it."
>"Who would ever say such a lie?"
>"Oh, Kuei Meng makes up stories all the time. Thank you father."
$5 says that Kuei Meng ended up dead.
>>83712507
Isn't this how Gwen Stacy died?
>"Kuei Meng never returned to my classes."
Called it.
>>83712829
Gravity has killed more people than Frank Castle and Wolverine combined.
Huh, I guess I need to start reading Man-Thing.
>>83712857
Gravity makes victims of us all.

And that's it for tonight, Anons. See you tomorrow for more Deadly Hands of Kung Fu!
>>83712605
Well, this is the mid-seventies, so the tail end of the Cultural Revolution, when the people who had effectively ousted Mao and the Gang of Four were trying to undo some of the damage Mao's "All the Revolution, All the Time, Kill the Past" mentality that caused a decade of near civil war.
So by that point they were sorta pushing against any sort of revolutionary thinking and starting to set up Socialism with a Chinese Face.
>>83712969
Man-Thing is a trip when Steve Gerber is writing.
>>83712969
Gotta love Giant Size Man-Thing.
>>83713048
How's the Omnibus?
>>83704407
As good an inker as Rudy Nebres was, he and penciler Frank McLaughlin didn't seem like they had much synergy in this issue. Some penciler-inker pairings are just less successful than others (the textbook example is probably when Mike Mignola is inked by anyone besides himself).
>>83706802
Anyone think we'll get Sons of the Tiger in the Netflix shows or in any current comics? Or have they been outpaced by Iron Fist and Shang-Chi and remain a product of their era?
>>83714671Given that White Tiger is bigger than they ever were, it's likely that they were outpaced by their own legacy.
How many issues are there, all together, OP?
>>83707023
Wasn't the concept of The Iron Fist being a mantle dropped in the 90's series? I remember something about Davos wanted to absorb the power of the past Iron Fists, too. By the side of him is the flowing heads of all the previous Iron Fists. (All blond for some reason.)
The "Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu" will be getting a full omnibus come November 2016. A new(?) cover featuring Iron Fist and Shang-Chi will cover it. So, I guess the rumours of Shang appearing in Iron Fist is true.
http://www.forbiddenplanet.co.uk/deadly-hands-of-kung-fu-omnibus-volume-1-hc-dellotto-cover
>>83717568
There's 33 issues in the series, and a Special. However, there was also a single comic called "Savage Hands of Kung Fu" which was basically a color version of the Special, without all the non-comic stuff I skip anyway.
That said though, its possible you guys may prefer the black and white one instead.
What do you want to finish up with? My vote goes for color, but if you all want something else, I'll abide.
>>83714671
Maybe a Bob Diamond movie poster somewhere?
>>83708649
>Black guy shoves a revolver into a cop's face, gets away with it.
Not even going to "that guy has a partner that could totally shoot him" but that would at least get you arrested regardless of race.
>>83718794
Actually, the more I think about it, this would be a great little cameo, especially if Cage ends up working out of a theater back office.
Although, I still haven't watched Jessica Jones the whole way through, but he seemed to be a Bar owner there, and two PI main characters is probably too many for the Defenders, so they may forgo the Hero for Hire bit altogether?
>>83708826
>>83708704
>>83708675
Is this before Marvel invented their go-to Evil Standin for Exxon, Roxxon?
>>83714671
I would be nice to see them, especially if you want to work in the proper way to get to "White Tiger", however Marveflix may make it in MCU cannon that they existed, but disbanded.Plus, if Sun-Lin featured, it would be nice to see an Asian-American martial artist, after that whole AAIF thing. I understand their grievances regarding representation, but turning Danny AA wouldn't have make a lot of sense.
>>83717996
Oh, I though it was just 18, but, I guess that's just the first volume.
>>83718910
Luke Cage (and Danny once he joins) basically does whatever you pay him for. You need him to solve a crime, he'll do it. Need him to be a bodyguard? He'll do it. Need him to take your superhero loving daughter to a formal dance? He'll do it, but you'll have to try really hard to convince him the money's worth it.
>>83711148
So, by his name I figured Lin Sun was Chinese. But he has a Samurai ancestor.
Which has some pretty..iffy implications. Maybe his grandfather was at Nanking.
>>83709817
Well, she was always just wearing that and a coat.
Her Stage Assistant Bikini is all she had on from the start of this storyline.
>>83710007
>>83709968
Huh, these two pages are misnumbered.
>>83710240
But Curtis, the dreaded Fu Manchu yet lives, and through him, Chinatown, every Chinatown. is festering wound.
>>83720255
That was hardly the only time the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere saw a Japanese rapist.
>>83710770
Outside of that page everything's been perfectly readible, I don't really mind. And it isn't like you scanned them.
That page, though, should have been rescanned. Something went super wrong.
>>83711050
God. This Golden Dragon story is getting really convoluted.
Did they write it on opium for maximum authenticity?
>>83720255
I'm thinking that Marvel just threw all Asianses into the same category.
