Why would it be offensive? The Runaways was written at a time when that kind of character wasn't really represented in the comics, and besides, his parents got out of the game and became mostly respectable people who just happen to make sacrifices to ancient deities (though it was clear they weren't always nice people, as a Young Geoffrey is brought from the past who is very much the typical ambitious thug).

I mean, blame other writers for making literally every young black character after this have parents involved in street crime. Bendis in particular with Miles. But honestly, it's not that far fetched. In big cities, there is a great deal of black crime. Statistically much moreso than any other crime.
