If you're talking about the 2005 Deluxe Edition, that recolor was done by Lewis and Mazzuchelli themselves, and was meant to present the book as they'd always wanted it to look.

If you mean the 2012 reprint though, then yeah that one's a massive fuck up on DC's part since they did the recolor there behind their backs.

I need to go out to buy comics more. I picked up Punisher Born on free comic book day. I had read it already but fucking needed it on my shelf.
I'd take pics, but my shelves are cluttered and disorganized like fucking crazy.

I'm also starting to very slowly collect the Mignolaverse. I figure, the hiatus will give me enough time to catch up.

I also got two big ass long boxes full of old stuff I have yet to sort through.
I'll probably get rid of most of it via Craigslist or something. I believe most of it is xmen, which doesn't interest me.

My physical copy of Rebirth arrived a few days ago and I tried to pre-order the Vision and Omega Men trades but my local store doesn't have them listed for some reason. The reason might be that they're not Batman.

Because the OP always sucks. A while back we were having 500+ posts but know its just the same 5 shelves all with the same things on them. Basically this.

I used to make nearly all the shelf threads (about once a month) back in '09/'10, and every image was new and interesting, collected editions weren't so "new" and people were apprehensive about which to buy because of the bindings, so there wasn't this rush to get the newest HC just because everyone else was; there was true variety in the shelves, and you could tell someone's taste by what they owned.

Now I can just tell that you like new hardcovers. It's rare to find someone with a tpb that's 10+ years old.

Anyways fuck everyone and get off my lawn.

forgot to add the tips

the new 52 is a mine field of shitty continuity errors so bad they decided to reboot it again.
your going to want something better.
from image comics finish getting chew, check out copperhead if you think that blade runner crossed with the man with no name is a good concept for a comic. also get prophet, it's a damn good book and to a lesser extant look at the glory reboot.

from oni press start buying the sixth gun. don't worry about the gunslinger editions just get the tpbs or regular hardcovers and don't forget the tie in mini's. also letter 44 imagine the west wing fused with the movie Armageddon and independence day. that's a apt description as i can give.

from vertigo get astro city current trades. astro city is the best superhero book printed right now.
and see if you can get supreme blue rose the floppies or a trade.

>high price/low content
Only if you buy bad comics. 5 dollars for 20 pages of really good art is a good deal if you are getting the good stuff.

Floppies are also the best way to judge a series, they save me money in the long run and are a much more comfortable read.

I also thing the Ultra High Production value isn't really needed on 90% of mainstream comics so I like the flimsy, throw around nature of singles.
>>
>>83619745
used to back in the day you'd pay like two bucks and get twice that or more per comic
>>

>>
>>83619778
Yes things were cheaper and artists weren't well compensated for their work.
>>
>>83619839
todays artists are lazy.

ooh i did a full page double spread and put two or three narrative balloons i'm a frikken genius. modern pages are nothing compared to pages from the golden age which were and are a work of art.

should artists be paid fairly yeah. but they don't do a tenth of the work the artists in the golden age did.
>>
>>83619942
Your generalizations are showing.
>>
>>83619745
As someone who owns nearly 12,000 floppies, you're mad to think they're the best format, especially given how lacking in content most modern comics are.

There's a reason the trend of binding your own comics blew up ~5 years ago.
>>
>>83620180
My enjoyment of floppies does not depend on the lacking nature of most modern comics
>>
>>83620208

You're a bit blind, aren't you?

I love bad comics, they're as much a part of the medium as the good ones, and I own a huge chunk of bad comics because I can enjoy them in different ways.

But to argue the publication practices/industry surrounding the medium isn't eating itself away means that you're refusing to be critical of the things you claim to love. It's just silly.
>>
>>83620609
How do you get that from what I posted.

I try a bunch of comics, if they are not worth it from the issues I stop buying them.

I am buying and enjoying lots of comics of all kinds from all over the world, it is just the number I get through Diamond sticks to 4 or 5 usually and doesn't fluctuate that much.

I've been reading/skimming these shelf threads for about a year now and, and time and again, you're the most easily offended person I've seen in all of them. You need to calm down. People have different taste in comics. Some like capeshit, some like indieshit. None of it matters. If you can't handle criticism or recommendations, you shouldn't post in these threads, because no matter what you put on your shelves, somebody is going to criticize it.
>>
>>83621801
Its not really criticism when acting high and mighty because you hate the big 2, maybe if he didn't bring up the whole "I'm a hipster faggot" in his post I wouldn't give a shit and take his recommendations to heart.
>You're the most easily offended person here
Or maybe I'm just being a fucking retard because I'm bored. Not everyone here is serious
>>
Recently i've been considering replacing some of my old comics for newer editions.

Shelf threads, man. Serious business.
>>
>>83622599

>>
>>83622006
actually i never said i was a hipster faggot. the fact i suggested the current volume of astro city shows i like superheroes but marvel and dc aren't interested in comics anymore. marvel makes the books tie ins to their movies and games now more than anything. and dc has rebooted their universe again in the attempt to sell you stories that have already been published before.

oh marvel and dc has a few good titles but they refuse to allow them to stand alone. they have to cross over with the other titles because... synergy. i myself bought every issue of secret wars: masters of kung fu but if it was an ongoing you know they would just make it cross over and get pulled into crossover events screwing up it's flow and story.

Do you guys think there'll be a Moon Knight Epic Collection vol. 3? The epic collections are usually printed once a year, but we about releases until at least January next year, and the last two were released in October. There should be enough material if they finish off Monech's run and include Fist of Khonshu. Maybe Marvel wasn't happy with the sales of the first two?
>>
I'm interested in getting into Preacher and picking up Preacher Book 1 HC on IST. What do you guys think of it, is it any good?
>>
>>83624879
I read Preacher last year and thought it was a great series overall. There are some rough patches and the end is kinda a meandering mess but the ultimate conclusion isn't terrible I suppose. Anyway the first half is amazing, Ennis doing his thing. If you like Preacher, try his other books, they all have some commonalities and it's a good chance you'll like them.

Anyway the only reason I'd advise against getting the HC because some of them can be hard to find. IST for instance doesn't seem to have a few volumes and I've never seen any HCs in stores other than volume 1. Maybe they're getting a reprint though thanks to the show.

They must have been on sale or some shit coz I took them up and the total price was 29AUD instead of 43AUD. If I knew I would have grabbed some more packs.

Yup. New Teen Titans by Perez and Wolfman
Vol. 2 also arrived a bit later, I forgot to take it's picture.

I was not a fan of Bendis' Daredevil. Brubaker is the series I'd like to finally collect. And that Miller companion omni.

I bet they look nice though.

Might as well post my latest shelf pic.

I've heard good things about Bendis' run. Apparently one of the better things he has done.
I've bought the Brubaker omnis. Should be here in the next couple of weeks.
>>
>>83630392
You bought two omnibuses blind?
>>
>>83630392
I'm more jealous of your amount of disposable income than I am off that Eternals omni now.

I need a third job. Or actually go to my second one.
>>
>>83630426
Works out almost all of the time for me.
If I don't like anything I can always flip it. Hasn't come to that yet.
>>
>>83630426
I picked up my Hulk omni blind. Never raf an issue before the 90s before I bought that. Now I want some Epics. Lotta books are blind buys for me. Only ever really hated one. But that was a buck so fuck it.

No wife.
No kids.
No rent or electric bills because living with family.

Do you live in Norway, Sweden or Finland?

If yes, then Adlibris has most new DC/Marvel trades when they come out, they just won't let you preorder.

if not Archonia.com shipped the X-StatiX omnibus to Finland for like 13ā‚¬, so several trades should only run you around that price for shipping if you live somewhere around the same distance from the Netherlands.

To people who have read both: how does King City compare to Multiple Warheads?

Also: how is Omega the Unknown?

>>83617300
Rumble has the Arcudi/Harren team from BPRD. Harrow County is an excellent, whimsical horror book with beautiful Tyler Crook art. In terms of great, long-form, heavily-mythological comics, Simonson Thor, Gaiman Sandman, and Carey Lucifer are the way to go.

>>83618339
I bought his book, he's a pretty cool guy. When I was a kid he used to do art for Owl Magazine

>>83616938
Wow, Sullivan's Sluggers. I want dat juicy Stokoe art but it's impossible to find

Oh sick, that reminds me I need to read 3

>>83621497
Dude, you literally asked for h8. Letter 44, Prophet, and Astro City are all great and you should check them out

>>83622139
Personally I like the mignolaverse trades. Maybe save updating for when your books fall apart, as Dark Horse was having binding problems for a few years

Aw, that sucks. Hopefully it'll be included in some deluxe edition when the series ends
>>
>>83636092
Sullivan's Sluggers isn't worth finding the story and writing are really bland and generic.
>>
>>83637242
That and Stokoe's art in it isn't even close to his best so it's not even worth it as a large art book
>>
What are you guys reading?
>>
>>83640337
I'm getting close to getting fully caught up with the Mignolaverse. I finished Lobster Johnson today, and now I just gotta read the 34 issues of Scott Allie's run on Abe Sapien and then I'm done.

Also, I'm doing Preptime for Grant Morrison's Bat Epic. Read A Lonely Place Of Dying last night and I'm going to read Bride of The Demon tonight.

In addition to those, I'm working my way through the first Moon Knight epic collection, which I'm finding a little rough with all the tangentially related issues of the Defenders.

Been lurking in these threads for awhile and just wanted to ask if anyone knew where to buy tpbs for The Question by O'Neill and Hitman that aren't as expensive. Any help would be appreciated.
>>
>>83643249
The Hitman trades really aren't that expensive, I looked them up recently on amazon and was stunned at how reasonable they are for OOP books considering how much people bitch about them
>>
>>83643292
Buying them new, the first 2 volumes alone would cost 70 bucks at best. Unless you're seeing something different than me.

The cool part about the 4 plague of frogs volumes is that the reading order was shifted around a bit by Mignola and a few other people. It reads v1-4 like they wanted after the fact.

which i think is kinda neat. If you want the hardcovers you're gonna be hard pressed to find them now but i think the paperback omnis are still somewhat available?

that being said i doubt dark horse keeps them out of print for long, they need the money and Mignolaverse is one of their biggest earners

a new Hulk Epic Collection just came out on wednesday I just can't remember the name of it even though i took a look at it.... anyways, a Hulk EC just was released on the 8th so get at 'er

I'm going to have to wait until August. My backlog is just too much right now thanks to no self control and I need to avoid large purchases for the time being.
>>
>>83644799
Thanks for the input. I love the whole Mignolaverse, and am currently in the process of collecting all the spinoffs. Lobster Johnson has been pretty good.
>>
>>83640337
Right now just floppies because I'm working on fucking Infinite Jest which feels infinite alright. After that Doom Patrol and Sandman, though.

Single artist/writer anthology by the guy that did Sharkknife. First story is a Metroid like story about hunting for rare animals/sights to photo. The second is one about magic aura having sword fighters and the last is a love story about two skateboarders with, what I assume is demon possessed boards.
>>
I want to get into the Mignolaverse but wary of buying the library editions because of how different they are from all the other publications in the series. Normally I don't care about different sizes but the drastic difference here does make me hesitate.

I know they're doing the same thing for Hell on Earth, that's why they're waiting for it to end so they can figure out the best order.

>>83629143
Damn those JSA books look great, I mostly want to read them for Hawkman and Jay Garrick. Is the interior art actually good? Would anyone recommend these and the Hawkman Omnibus?
>>
>>83648322
I'm a little salty that I'll probably have to wait until 2020 to get paperback Hell on Earth omnis to match my Plague of Frogs one, but I guess that okay because I'm a filthy pirate.
>>
>>83648322
so, im good to go with the library editions of hellboy and then reading the POF collections in order?
>>
>>83651791

yup pretty much, if you want to get technical about it, read the first 3 library editions, then the first 3 PoF, then the last 3 hb library ed's then PoF 4.

but who the fuck really cares, just read it! lol
