>Brevoort: In terms of Rhodey, we were not unaware that killing Rhodey meant we’d have a story where an African American character dies, which is something that happens prevalently in our medium. That’s a conversation that we had. In our particular retreat where we talked about this, Ta’Nehisi Coates was in the retreat for the first time. He heard all of this, and afterwards, he sent a long missive to myself and Axel, which we forwarded to Brian and we all spoke about, in terms of what he thought the reaction would be and what the ramifications would be, that we had to consider that from all sides. And we have.

Negative reviews of CW2 are finally coming out. I'm happy.

Sucks that Shulkie's death is barely a footnote for most, but it's technically not confirmed.

Also, previews keep making like Wanda is trying to sex Billy. I like it

I've started to see fussing about Rhodey and Shulkie, and the debate of whether 'fridging' is applicable. I'm wavering because I like a tight definition, but it DOES seem Rhodey being ded is mainly "make Tony feel bad", but that's also the plot in and of itself, soo

No 3 issue rule? You were the one holding out for Zub's understanding of the characters. I mean, we read all that 90s art already, it's not a dealbreaker for me.

Wanda's titty game makes Billy think he's turning ungay, so he sexually molests Clint, traumatizing him into a murder-spree?

Because nobody behind Civil War cares about Hawkeye or reads comics more than 10 years old.

because Bendis doesn't care about him.

Carol's side is like 90% characters he doesn't care about.

so what I'm getting from all this is that Bendis is writing unintentional black comedy
>>
>>83457488
I was thinking I would probably like Civil War 2 a lot better if it was specifically the Ultimates who decided on stopping future crime and the book was them vs. everyone else.
>>
>>83457592
90s art is acceptable when it is actually from the 90s, less so in 2016 with that awful coloring
>>
>>83457630

I don't think it's unintentional.
>>
>>83457630
Yeah. That's actually really accurate.
>>
>>83457460
To be fair once you've done it long enough it must be really dreary to read new superhero comics, let alone write them. It's like sitcom writers often don't enjoy watching sitcoms. They've done the formula so many times, they know every story beat in advance.

Whether creator-owned comics are such hot shit, I don't know; I think the current Image generation is a bit weak on characters because they don't have multiple writers' perspectives fleshing them out. But I don't really blame the writers for being over it.
>>
>>83457540
>Also, why is Clint the "let's rehab villains" on the PUNISH FUTURE CRIME side?
Well, I can actually kinda see it. If he wants to reform villains, by working for Carol he can get those people some therapy to weed out those villainous tendencies before they have a chance to manifest.

>I saw that Thunderbolts art and I think I've nope.jpg'd out.

I kind of think you're wrong and he's wrong. There's nothing wrong with a writer wanting to not write superhero comics, but right now in the American industry to reach certain segments of the market you have to write cape stuff before you can write other stuff (and usually you have to write other stuff before you write cape stuff...)

I dislike the Image wanking because a lot of Image does nothing for me, but I understand why so many creators love it. I just wish... they actually came out with more imaginative books, I guess.

But I'm not much of a Hickman fan either, so if he wants to stay out of it that's fine by me.

I understand it but expecting big 2 model to change and acting as if you're above capeshit just pisses me off. Capeshit makes 90% of these writers. Then again not everyone is as passionate about big 2 and why would you be when in the end it's about paycheck and paycheck is bigger at Image than Marlel or Damage Control.
>>
>>83457697
Morrison is one of very few writers who can write superheroes for a long time without burning out, though. It helps that a lot of his work gets to stand on its own unconnected to events.

Brubaker recently said in his newsletter that he stopped writing superheroes because the slog of events and reboots and shocking twists wore him out.

Plus if you write superheroes for long enough eventually you will run out of characters you write well. Brubaker really connected with Captain America. But he was not a good fit on X-Men.

>>
>>83458201
I think at its core the idea of a superhero is a really open concept. It's like the idea of magical powers, or really any fantastical element. So there's a lot that can extend to.

Even writing in the shared DC or Marvel universe has brought us stuff like Dial H or Omega Men. Blame editorial for this sameness rather than writers, probably (and the people buying).
>>
>>83458253
I think so. Also, someone barely scouted it out, because the inside of the Met is infamously not a very good place to have a large gala like that, even if you move the restaurant tables out of the way. But it's a beautiful and striking building.

There was an issue of something with Daken and Osborn going to the opera where the penciller hadn't done *any* research at how the interior of the Met looks for people sitting in boxes, or the writer on what was in possible repertory

yeah, I know, I know

So Spencer talked in a podcast about how he's intentionally writing Zemo as going rather backwards in his development, seeing him as having been on a downward spiral since Bucky became Cap. He's makes it sound like he's going SOMEWHERE with it, and that Helmut will have a moment where he looks at himself and asks "what the fuck am I doing?"

I can always tell when the writer or penciller hasn't done quite enough research on the opera.

Like in Batman: Hush Batman says his parents loved the great composers "but especially Leoncavallo." Leoncavallo only wrote one opera that's popular.

This is not a bad thing *at all*, it's just that it brings home to me how many things in fiction feel just *slightly* wrong to people who know the subject inside out.

>I think the rim should have some sort of purpose though, yeah.

It has a purpose: Making him look like a rip off of the Cybermen from Doctor Who.

Thanks as always OP

Was Sam Lane established as a shady ass army type by this point? Or was he still just a regular Army Hardass?

Because like twenty years later, there's no way Project 4377 wouldn't be in this kind of pissing contest.

Hah, I missed this

>Nrama: You're continuing to do Earth 2 along with all this, right?

>Abnett: Yes. It's not strictly speaking part of Rebirth, but I'm continuing to write it. Obviously, it's on a slightly separate stream, although we're doing some very big stories there.

>Nrama: You've done it for a little while. Does it continue?

>Abnett: I took it over on issue #9, where there was a sense that the readers didn't quite like what was going on, and could I do something to sort of revamp it? And the response to that has been tremendous, so I'm buoyed up by the enthusiasm for what I'm doing.

Thanks for the issues, OP.

Remembering the Captain Atom readthrough- this is where Kobra gets captured to be recruited by the Ghost, yes?

>where there was a sense that the readers didn't quite like what was going on,
They noticed! Holy shit!

>and could I do something to sort of revamp it?
going back to something more similar to Robinson was a very good idea

>I was working on it a bit today, and my editor and I have come up with a storyline that I think is not only going to blow people's socks off, but also will put right — I hope — put right some of the things that people thought was not right about Earth 2 as a book.

>I think I've found internal, in-universe story reasons to fix them. So if nothing else, it's going to be exciting.

Thank You Based Abnett

based abnett

just kill off every super and bat character or make them quit or something

Kill Dick, have Val retire

or better yet just have somebody find a magic reset device and forget WE and early Society ever happened

I like how everyone running the show wants the streets to run red, and nobody's fucking obeying.

That sounds like an interesting take... but at the same time, this whole Captain America situation Spencer has going on is just kinda oh fuck off
