Than why dont we give the army those missles and let just them handle the big bad guys? Who needs superhero anymore with weapons like this being so common?

Bendis also had to clarify on twitter that Tony and Carol were drinking soda.
Somehow he doesn't realise that having to clarify important facts on twitter/tumblr means he's failed as a writer.

He's not a good writer.

>>
>>83425391
It's pretty clear that Tony was drinking soda since everyone else had champagne glasses but he had a generic red can.

But Carol also had a champagne glass, which was the real sticking point.
>>
Bendis is the Cannon Films of comic writers. The details and quality of his books matter very little to him, just so long as he can trick a bunch of people into reading his garbage and make a decent sum of money.

Frankly, it's a bit silly that Carol can even BE an alcoholic, give her alien biology, or that she'd have any problem with drinking now, given that the Carol who struggled with addiction was pretty much a different person.

Besides, it's a little-known fact given the prevalence of AA in American culture, but there are actually drugs to combat alcohol addiction that work by basically inhibiting the desire to drink. They've been around for, like, twenty or thirty years, but AA's semi-religious pseudoscience still holds sway.
>>
>>83426879
Probably because 1.) Drugs ALWAYS cost more than they should in most parts of America 2.) There's a prejudice against treating dependency with drugs 3.) AA has longstanding arrangements with many judicial bodies in many parts of the country 4.) Semi-religious people LOVE semi-religious pseudoscience from Pascale's wager to the theory of infinite regress.
>>
>>83426731

Fuck if we knew those Thanos killing missiles existed.

I mean Dick Rider and Peter Quill had to go to the great lengths of sacrificing themselves to trap him on a dying dimension using a cosmic cube only to slow him down so he didn't destroy the universe.

Stupid Kang didn't give Peter a fucking Thanos killing missile. He gave him a stupid cosmic cube that only could slow Thanos down a bit. If he had had a few of those Thanos killing missiles, maybe Dick Rider would still be alive.

Fuck Kang right? By the way why they didn't use the Thanos Killing Missiles to finish him on Avengers Assemble or Infinity?

Anon, she drank A LOT in those days. Fuck, at one point she got captured by the Kree, and the first thing she did after getting free? >>83427134
You could say that after Infinity, the government decided to fund work on such a missile. You could also say that it's just as effective as a Hulkbuster. Which is to say: really powerful against everything except the thing it was designed to combat.

The whole thing is still stupid though
>>

What was the point of bringing everyone if they even had access to that kind of technology? All they had to do was stand back and shoot from a distance. Wouldn't shooting the missile while everyone's fighting just get everyone in the vicinity killed?

Wasn't this whole event ridiculously rushed in the attempt to capitalize on the CW movie?

>You could say that after Infinity, the government decided to fund work on such a missile. You could also say that it's just as effective as a Hulkbuster. Which is to say: really powerful against everything except the thing it was designed to combat.

If you have to go to those lengths and create a whole backsory for the fucking missile to explain how a it can kill She-Hulk then it might not be a good idea to have She-Hulk die from a random missile.

>>
>>83424619
The big issue here other than the event being a shitty forced story is that none of this is established IN THE STORY. Way too often, comic writers just fail to establish things before they're important. If he had established at some point that War Machine was lugging bunker busters for superhumans, it wouldn't be as bad.

I mean, there'd still be a backlash because killing of Rhodey and Shulk here is pointless but what are you gonna do.

But, I guess Bretvoort was right. Anger sells.

>A bendis book kills her
Seems about right, Bendis had previously killed the X-Men.
He is the REAL EMPTY HAND. The bad guy to end bad guys, his awful writing is poison seeping through the multiverse.

Whatever character he writes, they die.

He distorted Bobby from an average teenager, into a cock craving homo.
He deconstructed Beast into an envious race traitor, lusting after his best friend's woman. His intellect making him ironically more of a beast than man, his shape reflecting his interior.
He killed Charles Xavier, and his Dream.
He slowly murdered the x-men.

He killed Spider-man on multiple occasions.

This is one death out of many, and not the last, for the Marvel Universe, there is a Satan, and his name is Bendis

>He seems to imply that James had the time to prepare, if every Avenger had time to prepare why didn't Captain Marvel summoned EVERYONE, and planned an assault, like in the first pages of the book?
Let's be fair: he could've had those missiles in his personal stockpile. If you're someone like War Machine and you're one real gimmick is "having a bunch of guns for the job", then you'd make damn sure that you had the right guns for any job that comes up.

That said, getting Thanos-slaying missiles from army surplus is one of the dumbest things possible. So the U.S. military just happens to have so many Superman-slaying tier missiles lying around that they are selling off the excess to the public? Yes, I realize that Supes is DC and Thanos/War Machine is Marvel, but it's roughly the same scale.

I don't keep up with War Machine, but then again who does?
Is he a PMC now? Pretty sure that sort of arsenal would require the U.S consent, and may actually violate the Geneva convention, because anything that can harm a hulk ought to be very illegal.

We are talking Super High Explosive based on plasma or what not, or kinetic energy piecing rounds that can penetrate a hulk. Does that sort of weaponry exists in the MU now? I am out of the loop, maybe WM comics did foreshadow a God Slaying Arsenal in response to capes, which would be reasonable. It would explain why AIM is still around, and many other EVIL corporations.

But that us beside the point, because that still implies that he had time to prepare himself, and that does not excuse him from #yolo thanos. Everyone should had been summoned. I can excuse Carol rushing into battle like Jean D'Arc, but this oversight is pretty dumb.
>>
>>83431330

I meant to say MAGIC / Kirby Plasma, not the plasma generated by these sort of guns, I am not a /k/ guy I know tank piecing rounds are based on turning metal to plasma, but I am ignorant of everything else.

In this same book Tony says Rhodes was looking slow while fighting the celestial threat.

Rhodes then explains that his armour is getting shitty and needs an upgrade which Tony denies for no reason.

1. An upgraded armour could have given him the protection or speed needed to not die.

2. IF HIS ARMOUR IS GETTING SHITTY HE PROBABLY DOESN'T HAVE SUPER THANOS KILLING MISSLES.

>I know tank piecing rounds are based on turning metal to plasma
Not at all. I mean, enough force might be generated to accomplish such a feat, possibly, but tank piercing rounds certainly do not work by turning the ammo or the armor into plasma.

The most common tank-piercing rounds are sabot rounds. They're basically large metal needles of very dense material, with a cylinder casing around them. The cylinder lets it be shot out of a standard weapon, and falls off immediately afterwards. After that, you have a very small profile projectile, which is not slowed down by air resistance much at all, which drives a lot of mass into a very small area. That's more than enough force to punch through even tank armor.

The weapon in the comic is certainly not a sabot. A sabot looks like the image I posted there; Shulk was hit with something which looked like a standard fat missile when it connected with her.

It could be the liquid metal missile, or any other weapon really. But given that Shulk's chest wasn't a bloody hole when she was in the hospital afterwards, it's probably safe to say that it was either something she could normally shrug off or something that mysteriously killed her with plotonium.

Rhodes was probably using plotonium: whatever the plot dictated would be effective.

Liquified metal is certainly not plasma. Liquified metal is just... very, very hot metal. Plasma is generally only seem under heavy heat, electricity, and magnetics: plasma is basically matter broken down into an energetic electron-proton soup to the point where it's hard to identify the element anymore.

In this case? Yes. This isn't some minor background quibble like Carol and Tony's drinking, it's a major plot point that kills off a character. At least some in-story explanation would be good, even just Rhodey mentioning that he's "bringing out the big guns".
In all honesty though, if he wanted She-Hulk to die he should've just had Thanos kill her. Having Rhodey hit her with friendly fire just looks stupid. Especially since he gets jostled and this results in him blowing his wad.

How strong is Thanos again? That punch would had shattered Medusa, yeah, she might be Inhuman but I clearly remember him punching Hulk in the jaw. That sort of punch would had fractured about everything.

And what is with the trajectory of that missile? We are talking Stark Tech here, why would it fixate on She Hulk?

There could had been ways to do this.

I can picture Thanos knocking down everyone, then heading to the "Cosmic McGuffin", War Machine stands up and throws a full salvo at him, this makes Thanos so furious he turns his full attention to Rhodes, who flies up and keeps firing down on him as he backs away from a relatively safe distance. Thanos grabs an object and throws it at him knocking him down flat on the floor, Thanos heads towards him, and Rhodey starts throwing everything at him, including the kitchen sink, as Thanos closes on him. James at this point is out of ammo, and fires a repulsor blast directly at Thanos, hitting his face. The sort of repulsor blast which would had released a flare, a flare which could turn the night into daytime.

Smoke dissipates to show Thanos patented "You are fucked" smile, and punches WM directly in the gut, the sort of punch that causes a KRAAK effect through the panel. WM armor at this point resembles a crushed can with armor pieces falling down as Rhodes falls on his knees.

She hulk starts to gain consciousness after Thanos initial counter-attack, just to see Rhodes die, She rightfully hulks out and goes down on Thanos.

The floor collapses on both of them, and it becomes a 1 on 1 vs Thanos. A couple of panels show them exchanging blows, a panel shows the upper floor with another loud sound effect, in the next panel Thanos emerges, only to collapse on the floor. She Hulk is not shown after.

I think that would had been more dramatic and entertaining.

Nah. Kirby and Lee wrote the X-Men as being loved by the public. At least initially. They were also meant to be incredibly rare until every new writer had to introduce a brand new group of Mutants.

Were they? My understanding was that "Mutant" was, like "Meta" in the DCU, an easy out to avoid having to keep coming up with ways for people to acquire super-powers?
>>
>>83434304

There is though. There's plenty of subtext to work with. Bobby was clearly straight but there existed an out that could be used.

Bendis didn't fucking use it though. He didn't build on any of those small moments that could have been twisted in that way. It had been a minor discussion point years before Bendis did shit with it.

And that's why it's so offensive. Because Bendis just phoned it in like he always does.

I thought Bobby was the average teen, and group normie.

Making him gay is bullshit, but the way Bendis approached this however takes the cake. There are gay mutants already, a bi ones too, but all of them are ignored.

It is like they tried to make gay characters stick, but they sucked at writing them, or maybe it was a cheap marketing SHOCK / Wham moment, and decided to turn someone gay. It is kinda like what happens to Black characters, people ignore them so the easiest solution is to turn someone black. The problem is not racism or homophobia, the issue is that the writers are terrible at their job. I mean we can all honestly say that Midnighter and Apollo are some of the best written gay characters, unlike fucking Naruto (Wiccan) and Hulking who need to remark it almost everytime, and I want to like Wiccan because his future self looks like a great character.

Being gay does not mean your whole life revolves around it, that is like what SJWs believe.

I wish to say Gay Bobby was the worst moment, but it is the only moment that will stick, because Bendis run was based around character assassination, and a lot of poor ideas, but all of them went no where, so the X-men could had been all frozen in a basement for all good Bendis run did, but this is the one change that will stick. Even Beast character assassination, which was waaay worse than turning bobby gay, or cyke killing xavier, can be forgotten in time, but this, this is canon, forever, across the media too. Bobby is gay, forever, there is no turning back now.

Maybe Bendis knew this, so he did this to say his run changed something, because it is all garbage. Even the O5 could be retconned in time.

Interesting point because:
When you need this much explanation it only means that the reader is bored or not entertained. The reader stopped using his or her suspension of disbelief, that story teller already FAILED at his or her task.

She hulk herself begs a lot of explanation, but we can let that slip. We can let slip a lot in comics, like time. Spider-man should be 88 years old by now.

Bendis already lost.
If the reader asks this many questions, it means the story is not compelling, it is not captivating.

Okay, don't explain anything. Your story is shit because it doesn't make sense within the rules of this universe.

It's that easy. If this was an original story, you would have a point, but not in a 75+ years universe where there are plenty of precedents to call bullshit on stuff that isn't explained.

It is completely different, the fact of the matter is that Bendis in numerous occasions has done ass-pulls like this. It is just not necessary, it is not good story telling, there are some general guidelines and parameters that have been established by the previous writers and Bendis just ignores that, continuously.

In that panel alone you have:
>Thanos punching Medusa and not destroying her face
> War machine firing a supposedly Thanos killer missile at arms length from Thanos
> War machine firing such a powerful missile without any type of fixed targeting system, something common in Starks suits
> She-hulk taking the hit and subsequently dying
> She-hulk dying despite the fact that she has healing powers
>War Machine having "Thanos destroying missiles" that nobody knows about

Previous writers have established the universe throughout the years and Bendis's one page contradicts a few big key points. I could let that slide if it was just taken as a 1 issue thing, but again it's something Bendis has done repeatedly, just look at his take in the O5 or his Guardians vs DnA's. Even within the context of his own issue the general situation in which She-hulk dies just makes no sense. If Rhodey knows the fire power of the missile why would he shoot it so close to Thanos? Why not do it from 5, 10, 20 feet back? Just makes no sense.
>>
>>83434731

Personally I prefer he be straight. I really don't think the change was needed. Especially when there are already a good chunk of gay X-Men. Just that tiny subtext and minor things are there you could have actually worked with. Twisted a bit and built on.

Like Lorna saying he was always a disinterested lover, his one panel interest in Shatterstar, his disinterest in Jean when the other three boys instantly began to fight over her, his general daddy issues, the fact that he's had arcs built around lying to himself and hiding his mutantside because he hated not being normal, or that one off little joke when he says he's Angel's boyfriend at a party.

It's minor worthless crap that COULD have been actually used as a jumping off point by a better writer to make him gay. It's not like Bendis was the first time it'd been talked about or discussed. I don't really think I'd have liked the change even then but there are things throughout multiple runs that can be twisted if needed.

Bendis just doesn't fucking twist them. He doesn't use them, he doesn't build on them. He has young Jean say "Bobby you're gay!" and that becomes Iceman. That swallows his entire character whole because Bendis is a shitty, lazy writer who coasts by on two decent runs he did about 10-15 years ago.

It's such lazy fucking writing. If you're going to go forward with Ice Man being gay than take that minor stuff where he's clearly straight and twist it in your favor. It'll probably be the wrong choice to make but at least you actually put effort and research into your work.

The thing that bothers me is Thanos killing She-Hulk is your PERFECT out here. It's all you needed. For him to kill She-Hulk and Rhodes.

The missile is this worthless throwaway that is largely pointless. Rhodey didn't live to torment himself over it, Carol wasn't the one who got tossed into the guy.

And on top of that Jessica Drew really should have died. She's the Rhodey to Carol's Tony Stark and her book was selling like trash anyway.

That is surprisingly accurate

The point of making Iceman gay is that he's been unashamedly normal for decades and faggots get off on the idea of turning a proud normal man into a faggot harder than they get off to the smell of shit as they're pozzing each other in truckstop restrooms.

Of course closet faggot Bendis did it in the faggiest most abusive way possible because that's the point. The faggot audience he wrote it for *knows* jean mindraped bobby into being gay and they like that about it.

On one hand, the fact that he says wait and see almost implies with absolute certainty that she's fine
On the other, I don't understand how he can still work for marvel and not understand basic personalities/power sets of characters he's written multiple times before
On the third hand, what are editors and why don't they do their job

They should just give him a biweekly Bendisverse book to make up shitty rules for as he goes, at least then he'll probably have street level interludes playing to his strengths
>>
>>83439372
>almost implies with absolute certainty that she's fine

Probably because of the leak back in January.

Imagine if batman accidentally killed captain marvel with a batarang. And the excuse given was that it was a special darkseid killing batarang.
Does that sounds satisfying as a storytelling method?
>>
This is all extra humiliating for Rhodes. First he needs to go ask daddy Tony for better armour (even thee robins can operate without Batman's help) then just before his own uninspiring death he fucks up and prematurely blows his payload over she hulks tits.
Also if speshul super thanks killing missiles are so easy to come by he can grab one on short notice, why is thanos ever a threat?

>Then why was the explosion so small if it was meant to take out thanos
The missile is designed to transmit the energy release in the body. any seeable energy from an explosion is energy lost to the damge you are willing to inflict on Thanos.

because those missiles are very difficult and costly to make and require rare and special materials and only a handful of them have ever been made and so they keep them for the most dire situations, such as thanos attacking
>>83424732
because all the energy of the explosion was absorbed by she-hulk, duh. That's why they are special knock-down-thanos missiles

It is obviously Anger Force. Come on, you should get it from the context, just like you should understand that War Machine's missile was at least a Hulk Buster missile, because it busted a She-Hulk. D'uh.
>>
>>83435508
This actually works in Marvel.

Marvel has, in issues past, explained that emotions are power in the astral realms. So Bruce Banner would have simply gained the ability to tap into the astral energy of all the multi-verse's anger. And the angrier Bruce gets, the more Anger astral energy he can channel.

Being his cousin, this ability to tap into the astral Anger was unlocked in her with the blood transfusion from Bruce Banner.

So the energy doesn't come from the Hulks--- it comes from a narrow shade of cosmic power, of the free astral energy created by feeling beings of the multiverse. And so long as there are feeling beings in the multi-verse, there will be a limitless supply of astral anger to tap into.
>>
>>83435068
Well since The Hulk was created by Banner basically surviving something close to a nuclear explosion, then yes, I think She Hulk has always been able to survive nuclear explosions.

So basically Marvel has reached 80's Thundercats levels of unbelievably lazy plot convenience writing?

where writers just need X to happen and do not give two shits why or how so they just make it happen even if it makes no sense whatsoever and even contradicts a few decades of writing?

I always laugh at the butthurt people get on /co/ whenever something comes up about anime or manga--- since they are the same thing as western comics. They tell the same stories, use the same characters, and run off the same fridge logic. The only difference is art style.

High Explosive Anti-Tank you dumb nigger, it's been in use since before WWII because its penetration capabilities does not rely on projectile velocity and is the anti-armor warhead of choice for missiles.

AA's semi-religious nature may be bullshit, but it is incredibly helpful to have a circle of friends who you can meet with every week to discuss your problems. They also run charity homes for hopeless drunks (there's one down the street from my apartment that's part-soup kitchen, part-halfway house, part-meeting center). A doctor giving you a drug is great but he's probably not going to let you call him at home at four in the morning on a Sunday.

>He distorted Bobby from an average teenager, into a cock craving homo.

That one's especially bad because he was getting back-pats for...writing a straight woman telling a teenager he's gay and correcting him when he thinks he might be bisexual.

Bisexuals like me really do get that shit from straight people (especially women, for some reason) and gay people all the time. Seeing a confused teen raise the possibility he might be bisexual only to be told "no, you're all the way gay" by magic smart Jean filled me full of rage. "Progressives" can be so full of shit.
>>
>>83430075

Exactly. Bendis can't even keep up with his own writing.
>>
>>83431563

I'm cripplingly afraid of writing a fantasy story I've been kicking around for years because a) I'm a bad writer but b) I can't figure out a good way to make the magic system CONSISTENT, because if you just make shit up and say "doesn't matter, it's magic lol," it's always shitty writing. The only person to ever get away with it was Terry Pratchett because he blatantly mocked the very concept (wizards attributing everything they couldn't explain to "quantum").

Otherwise you're just a shitty writer who doesn't want to bother taking the time to make something make sense.

>Rhodes accidentally shoots missile upward
>for some reason the missile immediately arcs down and straight (in the same fucking panel)

Did he basically lob the fucking thing at her? Are his missile launchers set to "softball slow-pitch"? Or did it lock on to a target? If that's the case why did it lock onto She-Hulk?

He basically fired a rocket at an upward angle, which immediately reoriented itself and flew straight into someone he wasn't even aiming at. What the fuck?
