Its not like he hasn't been a joke in the movieverse before.

Besides, Mysterio, Vulture...It might have been a Sinister Six movie. Spidey kicks the asses of a bunch of crooks in the beginning and humiliates them, they band together for revenge. and then carnage shows up and ruins everyone's fun
