That was...unexpected. So he stays somewhere cozy in Hell, away from everything.

Also,is that the house Edward Grey occupied, the one belonging to the Scotch warlock? It reminds me to Harry Middleton's,from "Darkness calls".

Well, gentlemen,it's been one Hell of a ride. Thanks OP for storytime.

There's s a page-long history of her life which has some bearing on Hellboy and may have some bearting on Hellboy in the future. It was just one of those related stories that needed to go into this book.

Did I miss her previously or is this really her first appearence outside of the companion?

Lmao, he just sits back and enjoys the afterlife.

That is... somehow just what you'd expect him to do actually even if it comes unexpected.

It is actually kinda cute. But it doesn't feel like a definite end.

Those appeared in the short tale "The Wizard and the Snake". Their meaning I cannot fathom, but I think it's something about peace of mind and release from sorrow,by what I understood from said tale.
>>
So, it started with Hellboy wondering in an empty hell and ends with Hellboy kicking back it in an empty hell. Not much was achived.
>>
>>83372778
Yeah, you are kinda right.
But that is kinda what Hellboy would do, he doesn't want to be toyed around with for the sake of some petty power games between dying fractions.
>>
>>83372778
Well, he did make hell emptier. That will probably be important in the grand scheme of things.
>>
So can he leave Hell or not?
>>
Okay, so he destroyed Beelzebub to free the workers.
The workers committed mass suicide.
The army is still dead. The demons all died.
Pluto and his goons still chained, right?
Hellboy then, for some unexplained reason, which I am not satisfied with, renounces his shit AGAIN, goes back to the city, sees that the hollows at the sea side gaining a bit of form to them, I think, sees all the free souls, finally leaving Hell.

Then goes to a place he never saw in Hell. Did it appear to him because he finally found peace? Wasn't his problem that he might become the monster of the Apocalypse? He STILL has the option to do that. Nothing changed, he just cleared out Hell. I guess in #9 he said he had enough, and he just went to clear any other possibility of him being attacked. What about his wife, then? Did she die too, set free? What about that house? Has it any relevance? What about Ol' Grey? What's with the three shinies? Is that God finally redeeming Hellboy, or what? What about Hecate, she was supposed to meet Hellboy, or what about what Alice told him?

This ending was crap, and pretentious. Fuck it. I'm miffed.
>>
I was expecting something else to say the least. I'm left with so much more questions than I have been given answers.

gotta say in hell has been a letdown. astaroth gets built up for years and goes down like a chump in one issue, we learn hellboy has brothers and sister only to have them killed in the issues their introduced. most of the high profile demons get killed offpanel.

way too much of mignola stroking his poetry fetish. darkness calls and the wild hunt were so much better. this all just seemed so disjointed and underwhelming from everything that came before.

That's Edward Grey's house, I think. The one where no demon could enter.

About Hecate and Grey... I suppose we'll have to wait and see. Maybe they will show up in BPRD, now that Hell is empty and all.

I'm not even mad. I find this ending beautiful, but leaves too many unanswered questions.
>>
wow
nothing happened
and we'll have to wait 10 years or until mignola runs out of money for a true ending
>>
I never tought Hellboy will ended.

I haven't touch hellboys for years because of 'Mignolaverse'. I like Hellboy when he was just stand alone comic title but with different title come out which share same universe with hellboy like BPRD and Lobster Johnson, I lost interest on it.

I am just back reading Hellboy from 'Hellboy in hell' and how surprised I am Hellboy is ended. yet, it also make me confuse

So should I read another mignolaverse to understand this ending?
like Baltimore, Edward Grey (if I remember his name correctly), BPRD, lobster Johnson, etc?

Is there any link or guide for the 'timeline' or pick up guide for mignolaverse?

>>
>>83373232
This is about destiny and refusing it, it's a freakin afterlife, come on. You can't expect some big cape ending when we're talking about shit preordained from before the beginning of the universe, and a simple guy struggling against it. Hellboy in Hell was pretty much a poem.

Also, from what I gather - as B.P.R.D. continues to struggle, and with that big critter already in Montana (I suppose) something big is bound to happen eventually - if, of course, Mignola doesn't go full grimdark and really kill off humankind to make way for frogs after all.
>>
>>83373198
>Please explain

People act as if it's the last Hellboy story we'll ever get. HB's mythology is pretty much based on the short, mostly pre-Cavendish, stories. We'll get answers, but just not now. Mignola wanted to end In Hell because HB killed Satan, Pandemonium fell and there's nothing else he can do there. It's like with The Storm and The Fury all over again.
>>
>>83373232
Other anon here, pretty sure the snake and magician are supposed to be stand-ins for father and daughter/(relationships etc.) and how we should focus on the now instead of worrying about time running out.

>>83373231
This is actually a pretty good point, it seems like when epic armies gather things just sorta dissipate, except this time we really didn't even get like a huge sort of event, or rather our point of view of it was so distanced that it didn't really feel that way, even if hellboy pretty much just razed the entirety of hell.
>>
i was so scared that he would not break his horns

>all those freed souls and calming, tranquil hell

10/10 closure, i love you mignola
>>

>>
>>83373268
Right. What about the connection with the wizard? He accepted his destiny, but he was loved.
Hellboy refused his destiny, but he was hated. Kinda.

>some big cap comic ending
He turned into a giant, fought a few big named monsters, beat the last of the demons, and walked off into the 'sunset'. Come on.

>>83373277

he threw down all the dukes and ministers of hell already, he has the Hand, the Sword will wait for him somewhere in England. We'll probably see the big showdown in the end.

that's a magician from The Magician and The Snake, and so are the geometric symbols
>>
>>83373339
Yeah, someone already pointed it out.

Also, isn't that the same stairs the guy who needed to guess the dinner to keep his soul? The snake too?
>>
>>83373307
Well the appearance of the shapes are tied to the death of the magician right? The end of Hellboy is apparently trying to elicit the same sort of message where we've hit the end of Hellboy: it's on it's last legs, thank you for loving it as much as you have but it is leaving.
>>
The ending probably feels less fulfilling because Hellboy barely figures in it.
It's not told from his perspective, the Hellboy we see for most of the time is not the one we are used to and only in the very end does he show up for a few pages.

However as it is not meant to be the true final ending, just a short calm before the storm, it's probably just the intended effect.
>>
>>83373451
I-I want to believe
>>
>>83373451
It doesn't feel finished. It feels like a cliffhanger.
>>
>>83373473
It's basically Mignola telling the readers "Okay, I'm going to do something else for a while now, so Hellboy gets some rest too"
>>
I really liked this, maybe to the point of loving it. To me, this is a good ending. Hellboy could end here and I'd be fine with it.

From what I understand, this issue is about Hellboy finally giving in to his inner demon, letting it out but making it come out in a productive way. He does away with the old Hell. Mops up a few last ends, right? Once he does that, he gets rewarded with a place to rest. What better place to rest than a house that his dad (as references by the quote) would love to live in? We already know that Hellboy loves and admires his dad and now he's got a place with a bunch of books to read up on and become more like his dad.

I loved this issue. Great way to end, or just pause Hellboy. So what if he's not the beast of the apocalypse or Lord of Hell now? He put an end to the old Hell, so there's a new Hell and this Hell is emptier. That can't be a bad thing.

I mean, the only thing I'm getting tripped up on is the fact that he's the king of England, but hey, the King of England living in a house that he loves is better than a palace that he hates.

As for the shapes, I think that might be a hint that Hellboy can now create, should he wish, since everything is made of shapes.
>>

Hey uh am I wrong about the shapes bit confirming this being the end? Like I want more hellboy just as much as the next guy but for me all signs point to donezo.
>>
>>83373521
I think it would be more what >>83372728 said. It seems about accepting when you have to come to rest.

Though it seems unfair to me to have use symbolism from a completely unrelated one-shot comic but that's the Mignolaverse for you.
>>
>>83373515
I'm just glad that hell is finally over. It is somehow a fitting end to the place. It really just froze over, is emptied and calm.
While hell is on earth hell itself became more of a paradise to Hellboy.
>>
>>83372343

But what happens to the souls of people who are currently alive? There seems to be an element of the old Sandman "you go there because you feel you need to", so now that Hell appears to have closed shop where do they go?
>>
>>83373936
Never been done before
>>
>>83374100
I think they can go, but its' not under Satan's jurisdiction
>>
I know it's the hero's rest. Just like how Roger ended, but it feels like a horrible fate to be forever locked away like that. Sure it's bliss, but I'd still feel trapped and I'd rather have oblivion.
So, I'm sad. Hellboy and Roger are both just waiting for eternity, alone, without their loved ones. I know that's just how it is. Death is death. I just wanted to see Hellboy hug Liz and Johann, telling them it's all going to be okay, and that they can do it. I want a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann scene, when they all remember Kamina. I know that's not the style of the writers, I'd just feel better. This feeling is good too. :(
>>
>>83374118
So what, any day now there's going to be a lot of awkard skeletons standing at Hellboy's door wondering if the new boss wouldn't mind coming out and giving them a poke with a pitchfork, if its not too much trouble?
>>
>>83372318
One punched out like a bitch. He must have been thinking hell I got his two brothers and uncle in one shot, I got this nigger.
>>
>>83374152
Well, we see how Hell works while the aristocracy is gone in these 10 issues. I bet nothing much changes. Souls waste away like Hellboy would've. Some remain there, and live their lives like it's actual life. Like why wouldn't you? Then there are the ones smacked into Hell's army. Stuff like that.
>>
>>83374100
Hell is still Hell, but now you get to be bored for eternity (or until the New World arrives,at least) or go to Heaven.

>>83374150
He still holds the Hand, and the army of Hell of which the Hand grants control is still down there, somewhere. He's where he wants to be. I think soon he will learn about the status of things up in Earth and react. His fate is to fight the Ogdru Jahad among the ashes of the old world, anyways.
>>
>>83374235
What if that doesn't happen? Mignola said he won't get out of Hell. The Hand means nothing. He's nothing. Nothing at all. Nothing at all. Nothing at all.
>>
>>83374235
The Not-Heliotropic Brotherhood that went on the Giant hunt were after the hand as well, weren't they? Are they not still about?

>Hellboy ends when hell freezes over
I like this more than I should
>>
>>83374152
>>83374205
My theory is that the "common dammed" are just the ones turned into fishes and them into the hell army.

The souls and skeletons on the City all seem to have one thing in common: they were involved into supernatural shenanigans or demon pacts before dying, which set them appart from the "common dammed".

We also know by Johnan origin story that not all souls have the same qualitties, and some are more powerful than others.

So I believe that the common people will probably still go to the river. But I'm curious on what that ancient Whatcher is doing now, would he still be building the army?
>>
>>83374262
There are still some powers interested in him finishing off the world. The Brotherhood of Ra, Hecate...and The Hand still has its powers, and it was stated in cannot be taken by force, but given voluntarily, and the world needs to end. Maybe he will give it up to someone.

>>83374263
Last we saw of them they were still willing to take a part in the end of the world. I don't think they've given up yet.
>>
>>83374262
I wondered about that... I mean, he can't get out of hell, fine. But Earth is essentially hell now, and there's hints that the new earth won't really be anything like the old one. Old-hell is basically dead, consumed by Hellboy's apocalypse, just like the old Fae lands are dead and all the old people gone. Maybe Hellboy does break the walls down and annex earth so that there's always something left at the bottom to catch the things that fall into the abyss.
>>
>>83374327
Well, we have the world tree. The myth goes that the gods went into the tree, and came out of it after Ragnarok, right? Hellboy being Thor/Odin, it might happen?
>>
>>83372164
Oh god I can't...I can't...
Here we go
>>
>>83374356
The new world tree is in England, which has been implied to be the last surviving part of the Old World that will go the next one.

I think >>83374352 is onto something; Hellboy doesn't have to get out of Hell to release the Army, and they're the ones with the ability to bring down the walls between Heaven,Hell and Earth. If Hell extends to everywhere else, Hellboy technically wouldn't get out of Hell when he fights the Dragon.

>“Twenty years ago I looked at Mike’s art on Hellboy and thought to myself: ‘I love his style, with his sharp angles, thin lines and large black areas, and it seems quite simple and fast to do. I’m going to copy him.” I never regretted being so wrong about something.
>“It may look simpler than some art styles over-rendered in useless details, and may look faster than artists who ink with brushes and use lots of crosshatching, but the real hard work behind those drawings is inside the artist’s head, mixing the world with his imagination and translating it into those incredible drawings. The most amazing aspect of his craft are all the limits, boundaries and rules that he set for his drawings and how hard it is to draw everything under those rules and make it all work together. His art and storytelling are striking, bold, elegant and unique. So Mike is the real guy to blame, because he misled us by making it look so damn easy.
>“Mike has had a huge, undeniable impact on the comics medium, as he has influenced generations of young artists, and will continue to do so, even if they don’t want to try to copy his art style. What he has achieved as an artist is paired only by Kirby and Toppi, and like those two, there’ll never be someone like him.” — Gabriel Bá, Daytripper, Two Brothers

>“Mike Mignola defines what it is to be a comics creator in the purest sense of the form and word. Everyone I know who makes comics, from the most populist mainstream artist to the most punk-rock indie creator, reveres him as the gold standard. He invented a universe that ONLY he could have invented and produced it in a style ONLY he could have produced it in. A completely uncompromised vision of a world that would not exist if not for him, characters that would not exist if not for him, all in a style that could not be created by anybody BUT him.

>“Almost no one I know who makes comics can go right back to their own writing or drawing after having read one of his works, because there is something so compulsive and hypnotic about his style that everyone that comes in contact with it has to shake it off before they can go back to their own work for fear of pale imitation. The only other person that does this is Will Eisner.

>“Mike is so excellent, so consistently, that my fear is that people may take it for granted. Do not. He is one of the great comic legends of all time, and we get to watch him live.” — Brian Michael Bendis, Powers, Civil War II

I know because I have lived on several different continents and met well-known artists in the medium of comics who have been influenced and inspired by his work. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, he is one of the most flattered artists working today.

>“I also think he is one of the most important talents to have worked in the field and he stands alongside of Hal Foster, Will Eisner, Jack Kirby, Osamu Tezuka, Alex Toth, Jean “Moebius” Giraud, Frank Miller, Katusuhiro Otomo, and Akira Toriyama. … He writes with unpretentious profoundness. This year, the title was bestowed to Mike by a group of his peers who have deemed his life’s work to be of the highest quality. >“Mignola is a living legend. I’m sure it makes him uncomfortable as hell to hear things like that, but it’s true. In Mike you have something truly remarkable. Not only is he one of the finest and most influential artists of our era, he’s also the creator of a comics universe that has been fulfilling his personal vision for more than 20 years. Dozens of comics companies have been born, grown old, and died in that time. Thousands of creator-owned comics have come and gone while Mignola continues to orchestrate a story world of the highest caliber.

>“If he moved to a tropical island today and painted only for pleasure for the rest of his life, he’d still have achieved things nobody in this business will ever match. Fortunately for us, a tropical island would bore him to tears after a week. I can’t wait to see the art that his ‘time off’ will produce, and to read the stories that his brain will invent in the meantime.” — Christopher Golden, Snowblind, Baltimore
>>
>“Mike Mignola and his work mean so much to me, it’s hard to put into words. As a kid discovering comics, his work stood out in the days of the lingering “Marvel style,” which had become stagnant and expected. There were a few guys who could light a new fire then. Mike was one of them and this was even before his distinctive style we know from Hellboy.

>“As an influence, Mike has been with me since my first days. As his work developed into the heavy solid blacks we know of today, I only became more mystified at how he could break the rules and make them work with new ones. Slowly I got to know Mike. He was kind enough to excuse my fandom, and we’ve become pals. He and his wife and partner, Christine, have been supportive of my efforts to learn the craft and they have shown me humility and kindness in the face of fame and geek worship.

>“I’ll miss Hellboy, and yet I feel ready to let him go. To see Mike create the full life of a character is rare thing in comics, a truly awesome task I am grateful to have witnessed. I’m looking forward to Mike’s paintings and what insanity he’ll dream up next.” — Michael Avon Oeming, co-creator and EP of Powers

>“The greatest compliment you can give to an artist is to say they’ve influenced other artists. Mignola has done that. I feel no other artist in comics has had a more positive influence on the art of comics since Jack Kirby. Because he didn’t influence kids to put a bunch of useless crosshatching all over everything. None of that flashy crap. Without pretension he showed us effective panel layout and page design, abstract storytelling, use of positive and negative space. The meat and potatoes of comics. But other than that, he’s a blight on society and should be destroyed.” — Eric Powell, The Goon, Hillbilly

Does this mean "the prophecy" will not come to pass?

I always assumed he would rise to "destroy the world" once the Ogdru Jahad had all but taken over and wrest it back from them thus fullfilling the Arthurian "Darkest Hour" mith.

i think that's probably the way it will go down, he'll chill in hell for a while and when humanity is at it's darkest he'll take the forces of hell up there and fight the dragon.

remember the story about how arthur is the red dragon who killed the white one or some shit.

hellboy is destined to slay the dragon and usher in a new age for humans.

Don't think so. Old pal Sonchin also wielded the Vril, but he died eventually. I think hypothetically she could get to live for centuries, but not forever. Just my opinion, though.

Considering the last revelations about his true nature, I don't think he really ages. I mean, he gets older and more experienced, but his organism doesn't weaken.

>>
So I never read any hellboy, and i would like to read hellboy in hell. Is it a big mistake to do that without reading the previous stories?
>>
>>83394687
Not exactly. Sometimes a big page of exposition from one issue will be assembled into its chronological slot, but individual stories still retain their flashbacks and such. Its done very well, it's amazingly cohesive.
>>
>>83394739
>>83394775

>>83394742
In hell is a sequel to pivotal stories like the storm and the fury, and the non episodic parts of in hell are incomprehensible without knowing the lore so i'd say go for the reading order/reccomendations you can find on /co/ i think somebody posted that picture here
>>
>>83394882
Ive been reading it all in the chronological mignolaverse storytimes, so I'm biased. The other anon has a point about reading it in release order, you can see the universe grow organically, learning thinfs as the charayers do. However, the chronological version tells a very linear and cohesive story.
It comes down to preference.
>>
>>83394413
it's not reading order. he literally rearranged the pages of every single issue of every mingnolaverse related comic so things happen chronologically. so if an issue has like, 2 pages where it talks about the beginning of the universe, those are taken out and put at the very beginning
>>
>>83395012
>>83394961

i'd be curious to see a catalogue of all the Mignolaverse iconography that's accumulated over the years, Mignola's really great about cementing a single statue/panel/image/whatever as representing a whole concept, motif, event, etc. for instance this statue in the 1st panel basically became the go to image to reference Hell.

Something big happens and Hellboy is the only survivor, like the only survivor known universe wide because he wears the crown
He's devastated and refuses to let it happen

His hand starts to vibrate or glow and he starts remaking the universe because it's the same hand of one of the watchers
Then magic lights start appearing and a bunch of watchers appear and guide him in remaking the universe
He's having a hard time deciding on whether or not he should be born back into the universe because if he does then it means a lot of people die

The easy way is to change the universe back to the moment right before the big event happened
Then he seals his new power away with whatever caused the even
His crown, which materialized for some reason, is still on his head. Like his horns, he takes it and breaks it on his knee

He still doesn't know if he made the right choice

She was dragged to hell in 1617 where she was engulfed in flames. Hellboy's father Azzael said she was bound to him forever as he dragged her down. In the Wild Hunt it is explained that "And that very night she was taken down to hell where she delivered a son-" It never says explicitly that she died. Also I never really got how Hellboy was born in 1617 but was a baby in 1944 but then ages rapidly.

Pretty sure back in "The Island" it's said that several watchers were punished for making Ogdru Jahad and murdering Anum, their brother. Some were cast into the bottomless pits and some fell on earth. It's still unclear how some watchers on earth became monsters/fairies, some became hypoboreans, and some get to chill in their original form in the hypoborean King's garden, until they get murdered by Hecate.
>>
>>83403840
Satan being a Whatcher wasn't surprise AT ALL. Since we learned the story featuring the Whatcher is was obvious.

I was much more surprised knowing that he wasn't among the first sent to the pit. Seems that he got on some desagrements with humans, and his faction went to Hell and conquered the others. Them Jesus apperead and defeated him, making he sleep at the hearth of Pandemoniun.

I wish now that we could read a story about these demon wars and polítics.

That said Ron Perlman kills it and the actor that plays the Professor was born to play that role.
>>
>>83403994
I like the movies on their own merits, but as an adaptation of the comics they're not great.

1st one had some great themes
>>
>>83404068
>>83404153
So far I think the opening at least is excellent. It streamlines the comic a bit more than I'd like but it felt right.
>>
>>83404206
Honestly the best part of either movie is the beginning and of the second one because it has baby army base Hellboy, which is my favorite Hellboy.
>>
>>83404253
the Death of the Forest God is my favorite scene in the 2nd one, you rarely see stuff like that in action movies
>>
>>83404253
How involved was mignola in the production?
>>
>>83404281
Whenever del Toro did something he didn't like Mignola would sketch him a picture so he could pick what to change it too.
>>
>>83404281
He's very involved in the first one but quickly grew tired with the production process and distanced himself from the second tone.
Hence the shift of artstyle to one that's closer to Pan's Labyrinth. Second one is pretty much Del Toro's Hellboy.
>>
>>83404330
That makes me genuinely happy. I like to hear about directors having that kinda respect in their production
>>
>>83394704

I like it.
>>
>>83394704
Mignola needs to consider giving Hellboy big sideburns like these. The broader shoulder also reminded me of earlier Hellboy, which I thought is still pretty awesome.
>>
>>83404068
I think Abe being weak is necessary in the film because they made him the group psychic, thus he's basically a squishy. Im not a huge fan of them making him psychic but it works decently I guess.
>>
>>83405172
There is some questionable wire work involved here

Can somebody sum up what's happening on Earth at this time?
>>
>>83405903
Monsters errywhere, everythings going to shit.
More specific stuff for the last few chapters:

One of the Dragon crashed on earth but was mostly sedate, Black Flame got the shit kicked out of him in a big ol' DBZ battle, the Dragon that crashed on earth woke up and started shitting horror everywhere, Iosif let Varvara out of her jar.

Latest couple of chapters of B.P.R.D. are a more street level thing focusing on that chick who learned how to be an exorcist whose name escapes me at the moment.

i'd really love to see a miniseries entirely about the Watchers but i guess that might rob them of their mystery
>>
>>83406349
There is something special about the watchers though...Hecate stated she drank their blood and then revealed their knowledge to the hypoboreans, who then destroyed themselves.
If anything, everything Memnan Saa can do is learnt from her. Speaking of the man, would 4chan think he represents the Left Hand faction in hypoborean (compare to the Right Hand faction mentioned in Abe Sapien)?
>>
>>83407053
Sure, never said otherwise - Watchers are (beside God and most likely Jesus) pictured as the pinnacle of power in Mignolaverse. Hence the idea that acquiring help of the two greatest (from what I gather) that is Pluto and Satan, would be a solve-all solution.

Memnan a bitch tho. SSJ2 Liz is where it's at Now.
>>

I'd like to think hell boy will still raise the army up after val visits him in hell and tells him of what is becoming of earth they defeat the frogs breaks THE FROGS heavens walls down kill there god and makes abe the ruler of the frogs make peace on earth demons what are left of them now have earth as a home because hell is nothing now and the end is a demon visits a human coffee shop and asks to try the pancakes.

He was the only one with the stones to take the Vril from Heaven and actually use, instead of waiting for God to come back. All the Watchers had the knowledge; only Anum ad the power. And just because he (he?she?it?) stole it.
>>
>>83408786
Can't hellboy just take the Vril out of the fucking mud monster and give it back to god?
>>
>>83404342
>>83404057
I honestly like the second one better because it is Del Toro's Hellboy. The first one struggles to find a compromise between the comics and typical Hollywood bullshit, so it feels slightly generic. The second one is very much its own thing, and while not a good representation of the comics, it's just really fucking fun.
Plus Del Toro has this really unique design sense that feels very otherworldly.
>>
>>83408990
If 40 Whatchers including Anun weren't able, Hellboy isn't.
>>
>>83408990
No,because it isn't just a mud statue; since the first night, when Darkness got into it, the Ogdru Jahad has been practically invulnerables. Te Watchers couldn't kill it,so it was imprisoned in that crystal cocoon.

Mignola actually co-wrote the story/plot for the Golden Army, but the execution was all Del Toro.

>AVC: Are there anything about Hellboy II you have trouble with?

>MM: It's hard to have trouble with it, because this is a del Toro picture. The first picture was a bit more of a collaboration. But even though we came up with the original story for the new film together, I felt like I should let him do what he's going to do. There were scenes I tried to get him to modify or take out altogether, but at the end of the day, I realized I was fighting a losing battle. Guillermo is married to this scene, therefore he must have in his head how it's going to work. I'll just back off.

>AVC: What scenes did you want changed or removed?

>MM: The whole troll market scene is so not my sensibility. I tried like hell to make that scene go away. I wanted it to be more of a Western, High Noon kind of thing, where we just glimpse a couple characters disappearing into doorways and all these shadowy faces looking out between shutters at Hellboy. Of course, the scene as it is wound up being one that everybody loves. If I had gotten to make the exact movie I wanted to, it wouldn't have opened at number one. [Laughs.] I like stuff that's spookier. I would have used a lot less colors, like maybe four. Guillermo uses all the colors; he has the big-ass crayon box. My movie would have been very dark and very gloomy and very sober and very quiet.

he helped come up with the plot with Nuada but the Golden Army part was entirely Del Toro. the way Mike tells it he got a call one day that the movie is called "the Golden Army" and he said "wtf is the Golden Army?"

To be fair, del Toro's change did end up being a more prefered version, universally.

The shapes, as well as this statue (>>83372445) are from the magician and the snake comic that Mignola wrote with his daughter. You can read it here: http://bathsabbath.tumblr.com/post/30856780833/the-snake-the-magician-by-katie-mignola-mike

It's a nice little story about death, so i guess it makes sense he would reference it here. but i never thought of it as a hellboy story, even though it was in one of the hellboy books.
>>
>>83415030
Mignola's depiction of Hell is basically the same world as all the Screw On Head backup stories in terms of tone
>>
>>83373091
I'm interested in Mignola's extended mythology and cosmology and whatnot, but I'm really not at all interested in reading comics that aren't illustrated by Mignola himself, or by Fegredo, Corben, or maybe Stenbeck.

Vampires waited too long to spring their apocalypse.

Between Hellboy, the BPRD/similar organizations, independent hunters and the Ogdru Hem, the vampires are basically a non-factor by this point.

The ones waiting in the earth were corrupted. We saw the results of one of these nests being hit by the Ogdru Hem, and the vampires turned into a sort of weird fungal infection thing.

>>83415384
>instead of ending the world

But he did. Several, really, Hell was just the only one that he actively destroyed. He started the chain of events that destroyed the Daoine Sidhe when he dealt with Gruagach (and perhaps ensured their rebirth by saving Alice and putting her in a place where she could replace Queen Mab). He pretty systematically went through a lot of the old Witches, blinding Baba Yaga and causing her to doom herself to destruction seeking revenge, killed the Sea Witch (replacing her with the younger, more sympathetic mermaid), and rejecting the offer of becoming King, causing most to kill themselves immediately and the rest to die not long after. His birth and subsequent struggles with Rasputin cracked the prison of the Seven, leading to Sadu-Hem reawakening, the Frogs, and ultimately the incarnations in Nimue and Landis Pope (or whatever he is now). He was instrumental in helping Liz and Abe survive long enough to come into their own, and so change the world even more.

Hellboy destroyed hell himself, admittedly with help from his wife and from Sir Ed, but in the end he drew power out of heaven >>83372377
to smite the only ones left who had power over others. There are no powers left in hell but Hellboy, and he's retired. The Damned and the working demons have been freed to go wherever they must.

It reminded me of the story in Strange Places of the statue that the First People made holding the Hand of Doom, which destroyed the city when it saw how wicked it had become. From that, new worlds formed, some good, some bad,
>>
>>83415297
He was always that powerful because of his destiny and the hand of doom, he just lets Anung un Rama go all out to destroy hell and then reverts to his usual self by renouncing the power, like he does in the first movie, so he gets to chill at least.

He was tired while fighting the lesser demons, he was holding back by his own admission and everyone in hell knows Hellboy can murder them if he just admits his rightful place as the beast of judgement.
>>
>>83416262
It's funny though because due to Hellboy denying his nature all the princes of Hell could've killed him with their armies but their fear of his reputation and prophecy led to their deaths.
>>
>>83372164
Oh shit. Oh shit. Oh shit.
>>
>>83416324
I think it's a mix of the fera and the predestination, he can't escape his fate as a destruction god, he can only steer the power to other goals.

The other anon said it right, the world is still ending as Alicia showed him with the tree of life, is just not the apocalypse the demons hoped for.

The only things I didn't really like about the first one:
>Love story
It was corny as fuck and I prefered the brother/sister relationship from the comics.
>Hellboy living in a vault and Noone respecting him, and him being a secret
In the comics Hellboy was brash and cocky, but the agents respected him and the public loved him. I didn't like how childish they made him. He was lovesick and petulant and threw tantrums. I could never see Roger looking up to this hellboy.
>>
>>83416416
I think all the worlds are ending, for all the old people, but its part of a natural cycle of death and rebirth. Hellboy (or the just Hand, I suppose) sweeps away the old and lays the seeds of the new. Where things went off the rails is that nobody thought the Great Beast would have a conscience and want nothing to do with its destiny. Everyone from Rasputin onwards thought Hellboy would go with their "team" at the end, but what he actually seems to have done is either wipe them out or begin replacing the process of replacing them with more sympathetic human avatars. Even the Seven became human in the end.

Issues 7&8 of Hellboy in Hell are entitled "The Hounds of Pluto" and the Erinyes who are trying to destroy Hellboy are stated to be his servants. I think they are also the "angels of destruction" who were conjured by the other nobles of Hell to attack Azzael for creating Hellboy.

Pluto, Anum (whose hand Hellboy wears) and the guy who makes damned souls into soldiers are all Watchers/angels from the first Fall, cast down by the God-person for being peers of Anum when he created the Ogdru-Jahad and I think also for then destroying that titan for his crime. Satan and his posse were allowed to stay behind but did the ol' rebellion thing and got knocked down. Some of these Watchers became demons in Hell and others became monsters, possibly pagan gods. Probably Lovecraftian.

Very much this, and it's not like all the old people are truly gone. Humans in particular we know get an afterlife of some description. No one was meant to hold on to this world so tightly, and God of the setting sees no problem with letting The Seven rampage and take over (at least in the short term) cause that world isn't the one that matters. With an implication, if I recall correctly, The Seven will get a boot up their ass in a world reboot anyway.

We knows this thanks to the experiences of previous inhabitants of the hammer suit who spoke directly to god or a godlike entity telling him to not focus so much energy on trying to save his friend because none of this shit matters. Particularly it shouldn't matter to someone who was technically dead already so he should just pass on and join the party.

He made Abe that is described as a "frog" só it would point to Ogdru Hem.

On the other side, he doesn't look like an aberration lie the other Ogdru Hem, doesn't seem to be interessed on conquering the world like most others and is awake for thousands of years, unlike any other Ogdru Hem. He also has exclusive sea powers that the others don't.

He is also described as a god by a lot of people, but its always vague.

Hellboy is loved here.

Which means that the board rarelly talks about it because there is nothing to complain.

This is even called "Hellboy Effect".

All the bad ass heroes and villains out there know that an armchair or lazy boy is the best chair.

That's the thing about prophecies just because they say this or that it's pretty much vague on WHAT it really means. Hellboy has pretty much been fulfilling them everyone else with power just assumed they were safe or it was in their favor.

What makes me think Dagon (or Oaness or whatever we call the Thing Of Num Yabisc that changed Abe is) is one of the Odgru Jahad is the crystal thing that changed Langdon. Its the same sort of thing that the not fully transformed Frog Monsters created for the Odgruspawn they were worshipping here

When Johan cracked the shell it had a foetal weird thing inside, which he promptly had toasted. We also know from as far back as Conqueror Worm that its possible to slow the transformations that the Spawn cause from even things like gas masks, and that humans can carry the actual thing inside them for a long time before they fully transform - Sadu Hem when it stowed away from the temple with Rasputin the first time, then when it became a fungus spore, then when it became a fungus man.

I think Abe is a host for a full on Odgru-spawn that bonded to him when Langdon cracked the shell of its cocoon, but he didn't fully warp out because his friends got him trapped in the cryogenic tank very quickly. Its now bonded to him completely, like the Sadu-Hem Mushroom Man from the first BPRD arc. It raises the unnerving question of whether Abe could make others like him somehow. Maybe that's what his cult actually wants.

I hope I did this correctly.

Can the Ogdru Hem even BE rebellious? Hell I can only think of one that could even talk and all it did was threaten that wily ol' Shonchin. Then die. Twice.

They themselves? Nope. Not at all.
I was just tossing around ideas. I mean, sure it's there to create the new apex species. We've seen it talk through Abe. Abe doesn't even have to concentrate to be in power, meaning it's not fighting Abe. Whatever Abe is doing is either perfectly in-line with Oannes, or Oannes is too feeble to do anything, and needs to be awakened, slowly but surely. Maybe Abe needs to get stabbed in the chest more often.

Are you sure that one is a Hem and not one of the children of the fallen Watchers.
>>
So, are the Anons convinced Abe is Oannes himself?

I am convinced of nothing except my desire for pancakes.

that's all for you
