Think of it as dramatic storytelling where she's standing in the breezy fields and then the scene suddenly shifts to her shell shocked in the middle of the battlefield.

The point of the her backstory was to show Steven that she was in a neutral position during the rebellion and was passed around like an object from HW to CG.

I think she was doing something against the CG. We clearly saw her silhouette in the answer as part of blue diamond's court (unless that was another lapis lazuli). They're all on earth to discuss the ongoing rebel activity and were even attacked during the meeting. It makes very little sense for lapis to warp to Earth post-Garnet as a tourist/civilian during an active war.

With lion holding bismuth and his appearance and disappearance in same old world I feel that both of them are going to meet soon enough.

The only time I remember her saying this was in a sort of offhanded comment at a panel. Like sure, I can see that part of Lapis when she tricked Jasper into fusing, and where her misguided emotions made her think she was helping Steven by being trapped underwater.

I don't think Lapis is being intentionally malicious, but instead she primarily acts on her own selfish accord rather than considering the thoughts of others.

Like yeah, he wasn't full of joy or anything which would make him float upwards, but he was able to hold a level float as he jumped across the platforms because he really wanted to follow her. Then the look she gave him made his heart sink, and him literally.

You know, it really pisses me off how SU has some of the most complex characters in any series I've watched, but also so many boring ones

Pearl is a former slave who became unhealthily attached tot he person who freed her. Even after her master's death she struggles to care for the child she left behind who loves her unconditionally but that she can't admit she hates.

Greg looks like a dumb loser cartoon dad but actually loves him enough to build a house for him and never live in it himself so he isn't seen fighting with his son's godmothers. He is caught between the knowledge that he may well bury his son who can never live a normal life, and the fact that the safety of the world depends on such a sacrifice

Amethyst is a child forced to grow up too fast after her mom died and raise her brother. all the while she spends her days pretending it doesn't hurt when she's reminded that she was born to destroy the world she grew up on, and only didn't because she was born handicapped

Meanwhile, we have simple characters like the green meme machine, the annoying tagalong kid, the stoic leader who's two lesbians in an overcoat and the angry cheeto

I always get hung up on the idea of the Gems as a manufactured species (or any other similar concept, like with Transformers). I've actually been thinking a lot about it lately, and I know there's no evidence for any of this but here's my headcanon as of this point:

Injectors are actually an artificially accelerated version of Gem's 'natural' development. Part of the reason they seem so warlike as a species is that combat is a part of their ancestral reproductive cycle (Like a more violent form of fire ecology and necrotiny). The largest fragments of gems that are shattered in combat would burrow into the ground, take up the fertility of the surrounding soil, and over the course of a thousand years, develop into a fully formed gem of similar kind to the original shattered gem, but with environmental influences and lamarkian developments, at which point they would emerge from the ground. Small fragments decompose and help re-enrich the environment. Natural gem growth results in a slow drain of nutrients from the soil, no different from an Earth plant taking in minerals to grow, and Homeworld's crystalline floroids had no trouble amending the soil of a Gem population kept in check by their own self-destructive tendencies.

Territory was fiercely fought over because whichever faction of primitive gem controls the ground where a 'newborn' emerges can then raise them in their tribe, with gems of enemy types as a subservient lower class (like many varieties of ant do). Some time in the past eon, one tribe (Diamond, presumably) eventually overtook all others and brought about a one-world government, organizing the other gem tribes into roles based on their strengths. Needing a new way to reproduce without anyone to fight, criminals, political prisoners and dissidents became fodder for shattering. Large chunks to be sewn, small chunks to be used for technology and industry.

With the streamlining and industrialization of this 'harvesting' over time came injector technology. Now gems could be raised in a fraction of the time, in a predictable and tuneable fashion. Traditional tribal roles were selectively cultured into highly rigid castes. This further suppressed dissent, and the now all-consuming industry of harvesting's demands to be fed were met with those deemed 'defective' who did not fit the mold of their cast or were merely mediocre.

But Injector harvesting was much more resource intensive than natural gem development and Homeworld rapidly became a barren wasteland of industry, prompting the aggressive expansion of the pre-Crystal-Gem Homeworld Empire.

I think Lapis was always going to be a temporary visitor. She's not part of Blue Diamond, but I think she's a higher-ranked gem (mostly from her line in Mirror Gem about used to being somebody). Either she was unaware of how bad the war was actually getting, or was sent there to use the Earth's oceans against the Rebellion but caught in an ambush.

When Lapis was introduced, I loved her. I was stoked about her FINALLY coming back and then she wound up being the personification of "heh nothin personnel kid".

I want an episode where Steven gets sent to an alternate universe. Where everyting has gone to shit because Rose died in child birth and instead of a Steven, there is just a dead Rose Quartz Gem.

Homeworld has taken over again and is Gemforming the world. So they halted the cluster them selves. Garnet, Amy, and Pearl are locked up somewhere.

Steven is in the remains of the Temple and finds Rose's dead Gem hidden away in what was Pearl's room. Steven uses his spit and love pshyic powers to bring Rose back to life. They have a nice introductory moment. Then they break the Crystal Gems out. All the Gems them help send Steven back to his own world.
