>>
>>83343092
I just meant that Mespaf was just a normal website troll at first, with a little leaning toward more what we call SJW behavior, though not much more than anybody else. But after a while, they started getting more and more out there with it, wanting threads to be safe spaces, complete and total acceptance of any headcanon, no matter how shitty and non-canonical, and pretty much lost focus on everything it was centered around, which was the final nail in the coffin before it started to lose its mind, which led to its death just earlier this year
Though its death might've been a blessing, as it didn't have to see the wreck Emespa became afterwards

>>
it wouldn't be such a kick in the nuts if the backer rewards at least stayed as exclusive collector's items

>>83347129
They were cool, so I can't really blame WP for selling them to make bank off the people who didn't want to pay $600 for a scalemate and some shirts, but I feel bad for the people who paid $600 for things they thought were a one-time chance

Tbh, they should've expected this. In the middle of Homestuck getting really big and merch selling left and right, you should expect Hussie and What Pumpkin to try to sell anything, unless it really is one-of-a-kind, like a 1:100 scale model of Nepeta's shipping wall, or a list of Equius's secret fetishes

>>
>>83347355
I'm not surprised that they blew through the budget. It's really not that much money and there's also the overhead from kickstarter rewards, etc.

I'm mostly disappointed because it looks like they're trying to make a game that I won't enjoy, and they aren't even keeping us up to date about it.

We seriously need to talk to Hussie about this

>>
If there has been active development on the game is there any reason at all to why they haven't updated anyone on anything at all? The last update was forced out of them by that guy sleuthing around and seeing the people who got replaced or fired posting about it on their blogs.

The complete lack of even the smallest info makes me almost not believe it has been worked on at all. Are they "saving everything so it's a surprise!" Because that's literally retarded.

It baffles me that they have no even given the smallest info out. Even fucking screenshots, small assets, or music teasers.

What, was part of the deal they signed with TOG to not ever mention the game again until release?
>>
>>83347539

>>
>>83346331
There won't be any animations coded in by default, but all the necessary images will be available and I'll include instructions on how to make them. It's a fairly simple process, and you should be able to replicate everything that was in Openbound, at least.

EFIGS is a common standard because it covers most of the countries in the EU. The best part about it is, yes, I'm sure What Pumpkin is pouring their hearts and souls into this, I don't doubt that

But guess what that amounts to so much piss in a hand if you got shitty management, no money and paying out of pocket, a failed NYC studio, most of the team fired, nothing to show but a walk cycle after three restarts and many years, and a completely silent and opaque development cycle, AND your game is going to be fucking Broken Age tier garbage, which means,

It's funny how boring of a writer Hussie was in the end. It was clear he worked best with reader suggestions supplemented by his own ideas and ability to weave them together. On his own, he's sloppy and bad.

6/12 newspost will be Volume 10 and a release window for Hiveswap and/or the epilogue, with a progress report on Hiveswap.

The epilogue won't come out until Hiveswap does, or at the least has a release date. I expect the epilogue on 10/25 or 4/13 next year, if it misses that window it's never happening.

New players actually show up with some regularity. For all its flaws, KS does hit a lot of emotional buttons, and for a lot of people they've never really experienced something like that so it hits them pretty hard. So they find the general and get pulled into all the fan material for a while.

That's not something that can really happen with us right now because you can't just burn through Homestuck in an evening out of curiosity. Hiveswap might end up being a gateway drug.

Everything past Cascade was basically the sequel to the original Homestuck. It was largely driven by the fans wanting 'more Homestuck' which it kind of did.

There's nothing out there that can really stand up to the first half of Homestuck, which sadly includes the second half of Homestuck.

In terms of cohesive narrative structure the story completely falls apart at Act 6. Acts 1-5 were nice and contained and despite a bunch of loose threads, Cascade actually feels somewhat conclusive, which is why everything that follows comes off as extraneous.

However, Hussie is still great at writing humor in Act 6, so a lot of people still like it even though it fails to capitalize on the emotional highs from Acts 4 and 5. It really depends on what the individual values in a story, and how high their level of tolerance for plot convenience and contrived bullshit is.

I seriously thought this was gonna be it. Like, I feel like Hussie hates having his twists guessed so much that he goes apeshit and does all he can to subvert the expectation unto his own narrative self-destruction of anything coherent or tightly written.

Which is why I'm so confused and feel like people guessed stuff that Hussie then dodged.

Like, let's ignore Caliborn. Yeah I get it he's great, fine, I love him too, but let's ignore him and Act 6 and just look at the broad strokes for a second.

Jack as Lord English would have tied in very well in terms of the idea of only Jack being able to kill Jack, with Slick's desire to murder English, and Snowman. You could easily have said the Felt were Green Sun blessed carpacians or constructs. And wouldn't it make sense that another Jack would enslave the Black Queen?

The idea the kids both make the ultimate post-game hell boss, and also kill him at the end of his massive universal rampage, also would have tied in very neatly. It all started and ended with the kids and the trolls who got caught up in their shit.

It'd also be a simple extension of what I said before - Bec Noir leaves his game because of his power, becoming more than a game construct as he explores what he can do with it, becoming a problem for every ongoing and successful session in existence. His simple role magnified to a cosmic level.

It would have kept things incredibly contained and connected. One enemy with a ton of faces in Jack, one big loop starting and ending in the same place, a huge mistake by the kids (you could have even used future ideas and said they were part of some specialized No Future difficulty game like Caliborn's dead session), and in the end you could tie back to stuff like Karkat and Slick's relation, kids defeating a game enemy, and kept that whole cool monster theme rolling better.

That was what made him fun, though. He was literally a game NPC AI programmed to murder you, but he was more complex than that in his straight-sold psychosis. His boss forces him to dress in stupid shit because of prototypings, likes to abuse him, he has his three untrusty cohorts in HB, DD, and CD, he can relate to the players like with Karkat and Jade, he has feelings and ideas of his own such as making Midnight City and other neat noir story ideas, he LOOKS sharp and simple and scary, and you like all this because it was open about what he was to begin with, a stabby kill dude, and then on top of that you layer other things which made him super fun as a villain to follow.

He was Feferi's server player, and they ended up bonding during the game. The troll session was nearly a month long.
>>
>>83351600
because they were minor characters. Who cares?

Why does that preclude him being Lord English? He also said once that English was just a throwaway for the Intermission who was going to be seen and defeated at the end of it.

Now that is an interesting question. I never got the impression that Cal and English were linked from the start, but in that Tumblr post about LE's emergence and design, he said he always looked exactly as he does, meaning he always had the Cal cheek spots (and protruding cheekbones) and golden tooth. It's a little much to write off as an unplanned coincidence.

it's important to remember that caliborn considers himself an artist. this whole bit after game over gets glossed over a lot, but there's a huge change in caliborn's personality here that makes him (and LE by extension) weirdly complex and sympathetic -- certainly more than jack, who spends most of the comic being a stupid boring dog monster. caliborn is just another silly, precocious teenager out of many, but it just so happens that because of his species, his precociousness is a threat to existence.
>>
>>83351651
I wish that all of Hiveswap was just Karkat's intro, Make Her Pay minus Vriska stuff, then we skip to the end and Bec Noir showing up. Move it fucking along.
>>
>>83351721
caliborn is in the wrong story
i wish that hussie saved him for a better adventure
>>
>>83351666
Because he explicitly said LE always looked like a green skull monster Cal. Look, I know the comic was way better when Jack was the main threat, there's a lot of timeless memories involved with his updates, and he was pretty cool for a mindless slasher villain, but you've got to let go. English being poorly executed as a villain on his own doesn't mean he should have just been Jack. Caliborn is one of the best characters Hussie's ever made.
>>
>>83351712
I think Hussie was lying.
>>
>>83351726
>Make Her Pay minus Vriska stuff
it's mostly vriska stuff
it literally begins and ends with vriska
>>
>>83351764
Bullshit. Cal was predicted as a boss since his first appearance.
>>
>>83351757
>Caliborn is one of the best characters Hussie's ever made.

Yes. I do not argue this. I never will. But I won't move from the statement that he was absolutely unnecessary and wasted on the comic, and should have never happened.
>>
>>83351721
We can infer that Caliborn is a pretty a-typical cherub.

Makes me wonder if all cherubs who are predestined to die are similar to him. "Artsy", some semblance of red attraction etc.
>>
>>83351775
>implying these subhumans even read the comic
>>
>>83351710
This.

It would have been great to see how a successful session played out and how the trolls function as a team and yet have it neatly separated from the main narrative.
>>
>>83351775
I mean just show the recap of their game session
>>
>>83351812
that just sounds like act 6
>>
>>83351757
Caliborn isn't really English though.

Caliborn is a great character and he's certainly one of the best past the four original kids. But all his charm is completely lost in English.
What a shame.
>>
>>83351798
I mean I think Hussie was lying about English. I feel like he lied about a lot of things. Especially since it was around the time his ego went mad and he started ranting in comic about the yellow yard, and out of it about his cow's milk.
>>
ask yourself, if hussie was gonna extend homestuck for another 4000 pages, with 4 more kids and 12 more trolls, and it would continue to decline, BUT he'd introduce another single character EVEN BETTER than caliborn. would that be worth it?

I still don't understand How they blew through the 2.4 million
Reports said that TOG only stole a few hundred thousand, but that still leaves them with THREE TIMES THE AMOUNT THEY ASKED FOR
The only way they could have run out of money is if they were guilty of gross fucking mismanagement, or if they straight up just never had a plan to start with
This always happens when a kickstarter made by idea guys gets more money than they asked for, they still manage to overspend the budget, miss deadlines, and if the product eventually comes out it's mediocre at absolute best
Congrats, Hussie, you're just as bad as Tim fucking Schafer.
>>
>>83351868

>>
>>83351851
Yeah. He didn't feel like English at all. It would have worked way better if English really was just some eternal 10-year old deific psycho kid. The reward for winning a dead session is the nightmare of eternal youth and infinite power - a temper tantrum without end.

It's clear Caliborn was a last minute thought to the idea of English.

Too far. Rethink it. Homestuck would have still suffered a major decline in quality without him, and we'd still hate what it ended up being if there were no Lord English. LE wasn't the root of the problem, just another symptom of it.
>>83351851
Absolutely correct. English even had plenty of charm himself until Caliborn: Enter, where he was cemented as just a ghost-busting laser cannon. He felt like a Great Piggy Bank Robbery mobster villain. You know, HAMMERHEAD!, SNAKE EYES!, NEON NOODLE!

Caliborn is in there, that's where Scratch got his laugh from. He's just been subdued, making AR the dominant one.

Look man, my point is that Spades filled the role fine. He was a fine antagonist, and all we needed for the story. We didn't need Caliborn, we didn't need the Empress, we didn't need Evil Jane and Evil Jade. We didn't need any of those things, even if they had merit on their own. >>83353623
No. You're actually not even using the right word; the dimension created for the game is the Incipisphere. The Medium is the area in between Skaia and the Veil, where all the planets and Prospit float around.

But no, each session of the game has its own Incipisphere floating around in Paradox Space.
>>
>>83353677
>>83353381
This is why I got turned off of Homestuck for the longest time. Because of people like this and some friends who would self-insert as the trolls and be ridiculous assholes.

The incipisphere isn't just out in Paradox Space, it's contained inside of Bilious Slick
We know this because the trolls had access to the full timeline (including times both in and out of the session), and because Aranea described doomed timelines as BS's capillaries.
>>
What Pumpkin is probably the least professional company I've ever interacted with in my fucking life, they never communicate AT ALL even when shit goes insanely wrong. They STILL haven't said WORD ONE about the forums, we've only gotten information from outside sources.
>>

its not that difficult, and its something that would be done at the end of the game process anyway, all they need is someone to compile it and huss to write up some commentary which he likes to do anyway

Each incipisphere is a bubble in the Furthest Ring, and each successful one also contains a universe frog in the center of the incipisphere.

The way that timelines are linked between the incipisphere and the universe that spawned it is irrelevant to the actual geography of the two things.
>>
>>83352547
Homestuck did a bad job addressing and dealing with those themes
>>
If Calliope destroyed Paradox Space at the end of Act 7, wouldn't that destroy the frog that everyone worked so hard to make? I get that once the frog exists all things that could have or will happen immediately pop into existence within it, but without Paradox Space wouldn't that mean that existence will end before a new Session can take place? Or will time shenanigans just let everything work out?
>>
>>83353975
when terezi first discovers dave she says that the transaction came from within the universe they just created

>>83352547
Nihilism and cyclical creation were themes of the story for years and years and years and years, I don't think anybody has a legitimate problem with their presence so much as how they ended up being used within the story

You know, out of all the trolls, Equius probably had the most entertaining adventure. Just running and jumping around this beautiful environment, beating the crap out of monsters with his bare hands. Hanging out with Nepeta and robo-Aradia.
>>
>>83354033
>If Calliope destroyed Paradox Space at the end of Act 7,
This is the weirdest assumption that everyone just kind of had about Act 7. Calliope makes a really big black hole, yes. But to assume that it destroyed ALL of Paradox Space is just really weird since it runs counter to everything else that Act 7 does.
>>
>>83354116

>>83354033
She didn't destroy paradox space, just the green sun.
Black holes don't consume everything in space, there's one at the center of most large galaxies including our own. More often than not things fall into stable or mostly stable orbits around them the same way they would to a sun.

i think the idea is that she was specifically collapsing the furthest ring, which is a crucible of pure voidy nonexistence. it ties in with roxy's rogue of void powers, which are stated over and over to involve the creation of things through robbing them of their nothingness. it would make a lot of sense considering how close roxy and calliope became and how calliope's mere presence enabled roxy to create the matriorb.

Hey guys I know I took away multiple years of your lives for what you considered no payoff whatsoever but it's okay because I have some great new punk Meenah shirt, so you should really shell out some sand-dollars for that ASAP. Also, we have really cute pastel davekat stickers on-sale now drawn by the lovely targets-bathroom.tumblr.com. (If you spend like half an hour navigating the store though you might also find some stickers of Dave and Jade having a picnic together. None of it matters, because what ships are canon? That isn't my fucking job.)

In other news, Hiveswap is Hiveswap. I may also soon reveal that I might be thinking about possibly writing an epilogue at a later date. Also, there's that Homestuck Two Youtube thing I think they released a video for. In the meantime here have this hilariously ironic self-aware horse photo to hold you over until 4/13/17. I know you'll be there. Faggot.

Oh, and before I forget, STAIRS!! See, I'm still the same old me! See you soon!

Yeah I'm more trying to see any possible logic behind the original sentiment of psychopaths and weenies as a blanket statement. I think one of the pit falls of criticizing Homestuck is the idea that all the characters blend into each other, there's logic behind it but it's way too generalized.

It is weird to think of how psychotic the main female trolls with screen time ended up being. The male weenie meter is skewed heavily due to any mention of post-act5 Karkat and Tavros in general.

He didn't address the shot immediately after the black hole where it zooms in on the house, and I think that it's significant. Even assuming that his interpretation is correct, I feel like the idea was poorly conveyed. I don't need to see a battle but even only something like a shot of English being pulled into the black hole would work wonders.

As for the Calliope stuff, I never felt like living Calliope was obligated to be important. It's weird that dead Calliope has so much influence, but we're long past the point where we can pretend that ghosts don't have influence.

I think it's more interesting that he believes dead Calliope comes the Game Over timeline, which is a nice idea but I'd need to see more evidence of it with how vague retcon mechanics are.

I kind of agree with what he has to say about the first point, that you can piece together what happened in Act 7 based off of what we see, but I also know why people would rather just see the fight happen. I don't really care about the fact we didn't get a fight simply because it's one of the more minor problems with the ending to me.

Also, alt Callie being Game Over Callie is really weird to me for a lot of reasons. The post retcon cherubs probably shouldn't be able to communicate with the pre retcon kids, and they definitely shouldn't be able to communicate with BOTH the pre and post retcon kids.

I feel like the only way to make sense of the retcon is that the events of Game Over are either in a doomed timeline created by Aranea, or a retconned Alpha created by John not being there to stop Aranea or something like that, and there was originally an Alpha with no retcons that was also successful.

So, every aspect is connected to a metafictional concept? Or is Tex Talk over analyzing things?
>>
>>83357657
seems like that's what he gunning forward
I look forward to hearing how he connects Heart to "reader interpretation"
>>
So can ghosts die at the hands of other ghosts? You would think someone would double kill Eridan after he appears in the afterlife, but you never hear anything about ghosts killing each other.
>>
>>83357657
I don't know if every aspect is connected to a metafictional concept, but I don't really think Tex Talks over analyzes much. If you want over analysis, look to theorycrafters like BKEW.
>>
>>83357699
I don't think they can.
>>
>>83357715
"vriska swapped roles with LE because she's the thief of light" is bordering on overanalysis for me
>>
>>83357295
I quite liked the Calliope theory as it would help shed light one some of the inconsistencies presented by her existance in light of the retcons. However, don't Jane and Roxy interact with her in the void in a way that would suggest they had talked previously in their Game Over timeline?

As for his first point I'd have to agree with the sentiment that, whilst the defeat of LE is generally accepted as going down as he suggested, the flash still felt clunky with how it portrayed it and would have benefitted immensely with your suggestions, even if it was only a very minor part. Either way there's still glaring issues with LE that extend throughout the comic into the finale, so at least we can be somewhat content in the demise of LE going down in a somewhat straightforward manner. Fucking shame it's still so Vriska focused, the sentiments made about the Thief of Light stuff make sense and are interesting, but still they're just so obnoxious for such an unsympathetic and unlikable character to benefit from so brazenly. If nothing else I just wanted to see the kids dealing with LE, just to have the knowledge that Vriska was just a middle man in the whole encounter, the by-standing facilitator rather than the doer for once.
>>
>>83357761
Whether it has anything to do with the Thief of Light, Vriska serving as the cue stick, the Juju the cue ball, LE the 8 ball, and the black hole as the pocket is pretty simple because of how thick the pool imagery is in Act 7.

I would not at all recommend it as a keychain. First off, because WP sells keychains and they could fuck me over. Second, because at the scale a keychain would be, I couldn't make it detailed enough / strong enough (well, unless you hang it like on a bag or something). I'd say somewhere around $10-15 for a figure around 3-4 inches tall (as an initial estimate).
>>
>>83357884
Yeah I can agree with that, but I don't like it because English was never the 8-ball in this metaphor until Act 7.
>>
>>83357761
Well it depends on ones own definition of overanalysis in all honesty. If nothing else Tex provides what support he can find for his theories, with grounding in both the story itself, the events in the story and some metaphysical concepts that would understandably tie in to the story and how it is presented.
>>
>>83357949
>English was never the 8-ball in this metaphor until Act 7
That's where the role reversal steps in. English has always been the cue stick of the Felt, and Vriska has long been associated with 8 balls. In Act 7, it's swapped.
>>
>>83357969
I think he's done a good job so far. "Rage as narrative bullshit" is easier to swallow because of how much evidence there is and how often Gamzee is described that way. I can see where the "Thief of Light" thing comes in but it's a lot more tenuous.

I kinda like it since it draws symbolysm with Vriskas first encounter with the cue ball, where she eventually lost and the ball literally exploded in her face.

Then Act 7 was the conclusion to round 2 of that battle.

I would say it's a lot more tedious, hence the distaste. Certainly that's my view on it, I just dislike Vriska so much that seeing her have a metaphysical role that hogs all the spotlight is understandable, but deeply distasteful. In terms of it making sense in the story it just works so much considering how much unwarranted attention Vriska has in the story, Hussie bent the story over backwards to have her be an important part of it which is very inkeeping with someone stealing the spotlight both in and out of the comic.

It just feels like a reward for terrible characters, much like the Gamzee situation, which hey if he was going for then great. It almost assuredly could have been conveyed better but there's some real deep stuff in Homestuck and the effect loses its impact if you just outright state that it's the case in some form. Perhaps that's why he was so reluctant to give information about the classpects, despite so many people wanting to know more about them. Having more concrete definitions rather limits how much you can stretch them metaphysically speaking.

>>83358209
She didn't fucking ruin it. Not interfering would've just ended in a new doomed timeline.

She probably could have.
It's worth noting that on the doomed timeline where gamzee kills everyone, aradia was the only survivor.
