He was better suited in the original movie idea where it was about Riley finding less childish ways to experience joy.

They gave him too much of a big role in this movie. They should've just cut him completely.

Just as Riley has forgotten him, he's forgotten Riley. He begins by searching through memories hoping to find a clue as to who he is. Joy doesn't remember him either. No one knows who he is, but he oddly knows how to get around Riley's mind.

Clue falling into the memory pit. They can't figure out how to get out, etc...

Bing Bong finds a memory with him and Riley and remembers who he is. Montage of all the good times Bing Bong and Riley had together.

Then proceed with Bing Bong saving Joy and sacrificing himself, only just recently having remembered who he was.

I thought that he did great at the role he was supposed to play: silly but childish, annoying enough to not want around, but likable enough to miss when he disappeared. His disappearance is an inevitability at some point, so you wouldn't want him as likable and interesting as the main cast, but the way he went out was touching and saddening.

He was, for the most part, an indication that something can be sad but not a dramatic end of the world.

He wasn't meant to be interesting. He was meant to be babyish and simple because that's how Riley was when she imagined him into existence.

If he had a more complex character, it wouldn't be believable anymore. What do you think goes on in a mind of an imaginary friend anyway? One that is just floating in the head of a little girl?
