Hello Storyteller.

About this whole Captain America thing. I've seen it suggested that, since Steve is on a plane, he's using proper terminology, and "Hail Hydra" is just him telling that goon to call up Hydra.

I think I might die of laughter if everyone lost their shit, and organized literal book burnings over a bad pun.

I miss that entire outfit and the rest of them because they didn't look like armor.

so get this, there's some dude who got SO MAD at Busiek being flippant about it, that he says N*ro of GG fame is going to pay for him to go a con and confront him on camera

this shit is WACK

also, the "pirating Marvel comics as civil disobedience" line didn't get much amusement from Brevoort

Oh yeah, real tough, confronting that old man over a comic book. He and his poor health will pay for not giving a fuck, I tell you what!

Also, I don't know who the hell this N*ro tool is, but he sounds like a bit of a chump.

So many people mad at a bad comic book, so few people talking about Kyle's religious experiences in Omega Men w/ consideration to William James.

>so few people talking about Kyle's religious experiences in Omega Men
What I've generally seen people say about it is "Kyle wasn't religious before, this is just stereotyping"

I'm not familiar with William James at all so I don't have much to contribute

>>83260199

I've been enjoying how people have been losing patience with movieverse they're nazis stuff

>>83260191
the Comicosity review talks about that!
>>
>>83260191

I need to get around to finishing Omega Men, I dropped off of it around issue #4. It's good storytelling, I just disagree with the general worldview and opinions on religious belief that were being set up in the story and as a result found it hard to get invested in what was going on

I should finish it and judge the book as a whole at this point though.

>>83260199

From my experience you kind of need a consistent framework of doctrine in order to make sense of the experience. But I'm a cradle Catholic so ritual and doctrine are more my experience in the first place.

The popular line seems to be that Kyle has lost faith in God, but I don't know that you can argue that much. He can't finish his oath or his prayer. He leaves behind the omega and his rosary. He's lost faith in these symbols and these organisations, but has he lost faith entirely?

I think what happens to Kyle in Omega Men has hallmarks of James' idea of a transformative religious experience. And I feel while religious organizations might not escape the pus and grime of the story of the whole, religion might a little bit with Broot and Scrapps and their experiences being 'broot'.

IDK. It's one part of the whole thing I'd be really into seeing healthy discussion about.
>>
>>83260490

I'm inordinately happy that Ms. Marvel is in the top ten. It's nice to have a recently-established, well-written character crack into popularity like that.
>>
>>83260453
Right, and James was writing from a very American experiential tradition, hence why it's the Varieties of Religious Experience

Damn, June just got the most savage case of blue balls. I think even Enchantress felt that.

James' stuff appeals to me a lot. I've never felt religious in church, and I've never felt that my actual experiences of feeling religious (maybe just positively religious) were explicable.

>>83260587

Speaking as a Catholic, the most powerful religious experiences I've had have always been either in confession or during eucharistic adoration, both more personal, intimate rituals rather than the familiar mass. The most common association of organized faith are common and widely recognizable for a reason, but because of that they often lose their actual meaning and importance to individuals within the congregation. It's a problem with any structured, organized religion.

Fine. Working out thee mechanics of fictional technology is... challenging, to put it lightly. Especially when one is not especially well educated in physics.

Also with what you said here >>83260338
>James' views on religion are very oriented to the experience and very not about the doctrine
I think you can sort of view Omega Men as a a doctrinal failure on all levels. Not even just religiously, but definitely including that (both for Kyle's faith and the local faiths). It's got that when the math hits the meat side to it.
>>
>>83260872

Depends if DC decides to get its head out of its ass when it comes to their cosmic stuff. At the very least, Johns has telegraphed a new LOSH book sometime in the next year or so. GoTG 2 is coming up, so hopefully DC will actually try to capitalize on the space money this time around.

Kind of another thing worth talking about: to what extent are his issues unresolved/does he have PTSD at the end of the series? I think there's a sense of powerless acceptance in that final conversation.

It's certainly put him in a potentially more interesting direction than he's had in years.

You don't, but Omega Men hasn't played it safe on most of its beats. To resolve that part you have to settle on how Kyle has actually processed what's happened to him, and I think from the text alone there's a few ways to read that.

>>83261358

It was a different time don't worry. I was listening to an interview with Claremont and he talked about being hired by Stan. You're responsibilities as a writer were to work with your artist to turn in work on time and for it to sell, if it was good even better. As Publisher he had more important shit to deal with that tweaking your work, like the people who weren't getting work in on time and titles that weren't selling

RIP

A few weeks ago I mentioned it was becoming difficult to work on the comic as well as my paying work.

It is for this reason, I regret to say that this is the last update for Snowflame: the Fan-Comic Series.

However–
As I love working on this story, and have planned a lot of unique ideas that I really want to use, I have triedto think of an alternative that would allow me to complete this storyand I think I have succeeded.
I have been doing some planning on changing from the webcomic to a short series of novels. Instead of using copyrighted characters owned by dc I would create original characters, but the story would be very much in the same vein with another cocaine-worshipping super villain.

as I have a lot of experience with writing as well as e-book and print on demand publishing I’m confident I can have the first book ready by fall 2014.

This is definitely a lot to take in, and probably not what you were expecting on the webcomic’s two year anniversary. Even the previous mention of my concern really wasn’t much of a forshadowing, and I apologize for the suddeness. I’m also sorry you won’t be able to continue following the story in the way you are used to.

I hope this new direction will be of interest to you. If so, please consider signing up for the mailing list below. I won’t spam you and emails will only pertain to the project. In turn, subscribers will not only be able to follow the progress of the book, but have some say in character designs, the final covers, and there will be some other bonuses as well. Also, feel free to ask questions either in comments or in email and I’ll do my best to answer them.

Here's what I wanna know. Is Artemis going to be a "new" character, or are she and Aleka the same person? Because I honestly wouldn't mind a pseudo rehash of REQUIEM as her backstory.

I mean, as long as she ultimately plays the role of Diana's dark rival, then we might be okay.

Man, somebody really hates Swimsuit Issues.

>How flippant he's being about Cap being ruined forever and ever

Cap is going to be 'ruined' by this for maybe a year.
Still long enough to be annoyed, especially with Steve Rogers' lackluster attendance in comics as Captain America for the last decade, but not enough to be mad over.
Fuck, were these people not around when Wolverine was killed, brought back as Hydra, and then murdered the only gay X-Man?

>it was kinda implied in GLC during the Johns era that he had mild PTSD,

To be entirely fair, finding Alex stuffed in the fridge would be grounds enough IRL to develop PTSD. And that's before he fought in two Rann-Thanagar wars, had his mother killed by a sentient virus, and went through Blackest Night.

Hey man, Alpha Flight was solidly B-list right through the 80s. It went 130 issues!
>>
>>83268303
And Defenders ran 150+, and Fantastic Four used to be a flagship title.
>>
>>83268303
It could've become a hot title again. Rob Liefeld was really close to getting to write and draw the title meaning he probably would've premiered Deadpool and his other characters in Alpha Flight rather than New Mutants/X-Force

Of course talks with editorial fell through and Bob Harras ended up giving him more creative control on New Mutants, basically shoving Louise Simonson out of the way

I'm really unclear about how Byrne feels about Alpha Flight. According to him on his forum he never thought the characters deserved their own comic and only agreed to do it because he didn't want to see anyone else on the job. He also thinks it's one of his weaker works, he seems surprised when people tell him they like it

Then again he also doesn't like his She-Hulk comics

>>
>>83259790
It won't. This is your basic Superdickery ploy.

Make you THINK Superman's gone evil or given up being a hero or whatever, so your curiosity gets piqued and you read it and now they've got your money and you feel like a chump. Unless it's a good story.

I wouldn't put money on this being a good story tho.

Captain Atom got rocketed from 1968 to 1986 thanks to the experiment that gave him his powers. When he's trying to find and reconnect with his kids, his daughter doesn't recognize him (he picked up white hair on the trip as well) and basically says "You're very good looking, but what are you doing, you creeper."

Then she ends up dating his best friend.
>>
>>83268928
So Atom has the whole " man out of time" thing going on. Everyone thought he was dead, but he was flung forward like 16 or 18 years in the future. So when he meets his daughter and tries to talk to her she assumes he's just some army dude hitting on her and tells him he's hot, but she's not interested
