The legal issues mentioned in this picture are that Ken Penders eventually went on to claim copyright on a number of characters, including 99% of every echidna who appeared in the comics up to that point. If I recall correctly, they pretty much sent all of the echidnas except for Knuckles through some kind of time warp. I dunno exactly.

Either way, now Penders is trying to make his own comic with all the characters. And it looks like total shit.

Yeah. Penders had an autistic shit fest of rage when he found out that an official Sonic video game used his work on licensed Sonic comic as inspiration.

I think that was the starting point of Penders war on Sonic. Somehow, despite his characters all being essentially Sega's property, he was given legal ownership of his characters.

Now archie can't use any of them, and Sega is too scared to use Shade, therefore putting an embargo on her for Archie as well.

Things only seem to be getting worse since now Archie isn't even putting out trades that contain his characters.

Also, I heard a SatAM season 3, or a movie was in the works, and Penders sabotaged it.

Here's why: almost every writer or artist that works at a company signs a work for hire contract that signs over all creations during their tenure there to the company. This sounds crappy, but it's because they're contracted to the company as employees and don't have to shop around for freelance work. Otherwise everything you create is automatically yours.

Panders signed one, but at the time Archie was a bunch of fuckhead incompetents. When he sued, he claimed to have not signed a work for hire contract. Archie was unable to produce a copy since the original had been lost in an office flood. I believe they produced a xerox, but it was deemed inadmissible because of some weird law.

So Penders got every character he created, which opened every other writer up to reclaiming their characters too. He can't ever use them because most infringe on Sega's design copyrights, but there you go.

I know I'm responding to an old post, but: as a TV Tropes fan, I can say that TV Tropes is autistic.

It's based around looking for patterns and jamming them into easy-to-categorize orders and lists. One of the main symptoms of autism is sorting things.

The GIFT is definitely in effect; but think, if people KNOW that they're going to be going among people who act like jerks, why do they still do it? Because we need some sort of outlet for feelings, and our social skills are too lacking for us to take chances and do it IRL, or with a username attached. This is not universally true, like everything, but it's the case for a lot of us.

Ok, when you put it like that, i'm pretty sure the awful movie thing was all his idea, and not related to the sabotage incident.

But I know he did kill something. It was either season 3 of SatAM, or a new cartoon based on the comics, it wasn't Ken's idea, and talks were actually going well, but then Ken was brought on board with the project, and went behind whoever was heading the project's back, making all kinds of crazy demands to Sega that angered them into canning the project.
