He could go back and change as much as he liked, as he liked, whenever he liked, however he liked, and then skipped back and forth to check for the outcome he wanted every time, to the point he could have made an entirely new comic by just skipping to points to forewarn people like some goobery ghost of christmas future, until nobody had to needlessly die and they had the coherence to oppose English. You could have had a LOT of fun by showing what undoomed time travel does with increasingly bizarre and improbably moments John zaps into as he tries to adjust things bit by bit.
