James Roberts has his wobbles, and it fucking sucks. But ever since the second Scavengers arc, the book was more often good than bad. He's hardly the savior he was hailed as after LSOTW and the first season of MTMTE, but I'd still take a book that is sometimes shit and sometimes great over a book that's been consistenly bad for like a year now, and it looks like it's only getting worse, see Ex-RID.

Speaking of which, MTME#53 was good, definitely better than the previous issue. I actually welcome the reveal because it ties up many dangling plots and while some might find it anti-climatic, I'm happy so much of this shit is now solved.

Ex-RID#53 had a nice scene between Arcee, Sideswipe, and Sunstreaker, and that's the only positive thing I can say about it.

MTMTE continues to be a parody of itself.

It has yet to really recapture what made it great in the first place. Never really picked up its momentum after Dark Cybertron.

And y'know I really like the idea of an Autobot Megatron as an exasperated captain, but I personally don't feel like Roberts has really done very much with it. All the stories he's told so far could have been told without Megatron there at all - and yes that includes the current one.

And unfortunately that's the only well handled part right now. I have little interest in that so I can't say that I enjoy the comic. It started well, had a lot of potential but then the parts that were just side plots and additions before like references, earth like behaviours and weird coincidences became the main focus while world building and internal conflicts boiled down to barely changed human political and social issues and pointless drama including exclusively main cast regardless of it making sense, without as much as a reaction from the rest.

I really hope Season 3 does cut back to the Lost Light and their exploits.

I'd love it if at first things are happy and merry until they encounter maybe the Galactic Council or the benefactors that brought Overlord back.

I kinda want them to suffer a lot and eventually come to a conclusion that the mutiny was a mistake and by then maybe Rodimus and co. come back.

I don't even mind relationship stuff or romances in Transformers fiction. I just don't think it's done very engagingly in MTMTE. Roberts feel more interesting when he's writing really ruthless stories like Last Stand where the focus is entirely on how many weird and violent action scenes he can fit in an issue.

Marvel US is the original run. When they printed it in the UK, they added their own stories inbetween the US ones. There was 0 coordination between the two, so this sometimes created continuity issues.

Simon Furman later ended up writing about the last 30-40% of the US series. It was great at the time, but he has been writing the same EPIC BATTLE STORYLINEs with even the same sentence structures, so if you read his modern works then the old ones will be so similar that it'll be unreadably bad at parts.

Frankly I'm sure there's plenty of room given how mysterious Overlord was about his survival. He was found in space, damaged, and rebuilt by mysterious parties he refused to name.

It WOULD make sense for Overlord to at least try to save Rewind. Not for some revenge plot against Chromedome, though I guess that's possible, but Rewind is a data storage unit and Overlord has an interest in secrets, among other things for how to undo the safeguards in his head that leave him unable to fight Megatron. Of course there are degrees of "survival" there, up to and including whether his corpse can still be used for data retrieval purposes.
