I think my biggest problem with the whole "Dave reflecting on his shitty upbringing" thing wasn't so much that it wasn't believable even in the context of Homestuck's wackiness, but that it was the one thing in the entirety of Homestuck that ended up under being reflected on in such a way, other than Vriska's pre-mortem monologue to John.

Rose going grimdark out of grief, John seeing his father dead, Dave wanting justice for his bro despite his mixed feelings for him, the Strilondes conspicuous desire to martyr themselves with The Tumor. It's like every plot thread or bit of character development got dumped on the ground with a "Welp, glad that's over!" the moment Act 6 started, instead of building on the escalation. Better yet, rather having these things brought up in the 11th hour, have more of Act 6 dedicated to the established characters instead of half-assing sixteen new ones!

Whatever, I'm done.

I wouldn't say that. Hussie often made concessions of realism for dramatic effect. For the most part, pesterlogs were just long dialogues where the characters sometimes had to describe their facial expressions to each other instead of that being narrated for us.

my impression is that when they pass through the door, that punts them to the masterpiece battle, they get trapped in the juju, are stuck there for ages, and when Vriska uses it they get booted out, LE gets sucked in, they escape to the new universe while LE gets bound to the timelines depicted by the comic. since the new universe was only shown as a 'possible' prophetic vision it counts as outside the comic's timeline and LE can't get there

Now that I think about it, it's pretty funny that Homestuck is a visual comic where you can see the characters, and it also includes occasional narration, yet Hussie was forced to make the characters say "I'm rolling my eyes at you" on more than one occasion
