Hahahaha That scene is so much funnier now that I know he was a man pretending to be a boy. His eyes aren't conveying the downtrodden disappointment of a boy denied an ice cream on his birthday, but the screams of a man being subjected to such humiliation from a lifetime of regret and terrible decisions.

Whelp. If I am going to avoid spoilers for the bluray deleted scene I think I ma going to have to stop coming to these threads for now

>>
Just watched it for the first time.
I really liked it for the characters and banter, but the story didn't feel very inspired and the action scenes were just plain dull.

The whole thing just felt like an introduction to the characters to be followed by more exciting sequels or a series.

for a cop movie its really not, uh, a thriller

a sequel could maybe raise the stakes and action, but since this was basically Animal Racists: The Animation people are gonna want more social themes in it that could hold it back

>Also WTF was up with Nick's shoulder? The fur was clipping through the shirt.
A lot of the work-in-progress stuff has clipping everywhere. I assume it's something they fix at the very last step when they know nothing else is going to change.

What stakes? You mean shipping shit? That's all the stupid fanbase cares about. If not that, then whatever new "political" angle the Zootopia series should tackle. They may as well invent a parody of what's happening now to Canada's Prime Minister.

Have Lionheart accidentally elbow a twat and it leads to problems.

At this point I'd say passing $336,045,770 isn't a matter of if but when. When Minions was in its 11th week it only made $1,219,470. Zootopia's making three times as much at the same point and it will continue to stick around in a (smaller) set of theaters even through the actual Blu-ray sales date.
>>
>>82969653
Not aiming for a billion, just 336.1

I'm glad they deleted this scene. If only because it hurts the shipper's argument. Now all we need is a healthy anal rape known as introduce Token Female Fox and Token Male Bunny love interests to further destroy shippers. You know a Matt/Sora scenario all over again.

Oh yes and thank god Sora's voice actress died. That's something that you all should be masturbating to. No arguments, just fap to her death.
>>
>>82969617
$3,345,242 left to go. Its week-to-week drops over the past three months have been 9% to 40%. Let's assume it does worse and drops 50% every week from here on out (with its demonstrated longevity, it probably won't). Even that would give it a further $3.6 million, and it's met the goal.
>>
>>82969775

So they deleted the scene because PATRIARCHY!!!

What a bunch of manginas. Do any of these fucktards realize that fathers in reality held no real power over their families back then? A father was just a fancy word for saying Work Horse or Slave. He rarely ever even got to see his family.

Anyone else sick of Disney's anti-male agenda? Even a "witty" character like Nick needed a twat to prove he's a Good Fox.

Did you listen to the clip? He said that Judy's father did have influence and a say over Judy's life. That's why they removed it.

Leave it to Disney to constantly fuck up. Come to think of it has there ever been a Disney father that has had respectful authority without being killed off and no Silver does not count as he's a "father figure" but not blood related. The rest of the time fathers are portrayed as abusive like King Triton or buffoons like Jane's father or Sultan from Aladdin.

I feel that adoption may be an option, it makes sense that they might adopt a few kids, more than a fox would otherwise have, but less than a bunny would otherwise have, somewhere in the middle. In failing that, given that their technology is as far along as ours, both a fox and bunny surrogate could work, if they were dead set on having their 'own' DNA makeup- but we're approaching the autism zone now.

What I meant was the psychological aspect of not having any kids. Having kids is deeply ingrained into a rabbit. She may have a mid-life crisis where she hasnt had any natural born children, unless they do have the ability to perform an ICSI.

But even then, rabbit heat season must be both a real ride, and a pain in the ass for Nick.

it is an enjoyable scene but it also makes Judy seem to be 100% retarded. It also doesn't work well with the later scene where she discovered the the SUPER obvious con artist fox is a con artist.

Inducing compound-lucid dreams.

There's a higher level of dreaming where one actually removes control. Think the difference between dicking around in Gmod or other sandbox ventures where "you can do anything" and something more on-the-rails.

To borrow that monkier from inception, it's about mastering planting a negative idea of don't think about elephants, without in turn being reminded of elephants. To deeply dream in a world consciously created and easily recalled upon wake but during the ride you forget its a dream, you don't recall your own reality. To be an independent entity in an independent world, limited only by the waking of the godhead that is you.

To be your own tulpa in your own brain without realizing it, such advanced dreaming really chances the scale of the perception of time. I've had moments of re-entry into that sort of dream state that lasted barely 10 minutes in the real world according to the clock but were thoughts and experiences that could only be consciously recalled as taking as much as a day. Days become weeks. Weeks become years.

The waking is a necessary pain to hone the ability to practice the craft of truly living.

Zootopia awaits, anon.

I think there is some ongoing joke at Disney about who can sneak a the biggest spin the bottle reference past the censors? Do you need to top the last person in where you sneak it in?

Alex Hirsch famously battled to get a reference into Gravity falls. After that he made numerous other references such as spin the pig and spin the human that got in. Is this Byron and Rich's attempt to outdo the competition and get it in a movie?

More research and practice that could be detailed in a post. It's like explaining in an essay how to build a car.

In your research remember though these tips.

1. Keep a slight journal of the "real world" so you don't confuse the two. Otherwise you may end up having a Jared Loughner moment.

2. Do not use artificial DMT as an aid, it's like antibiotics for minor illnesses, kills your natural production. Slight use of melatonin is okay. Ignore the advice of all sources that say otherwise.

3. Conventional meditation practices. Anything that really helps "null" or "one track" your thinking. What you're essentially doing to induce such dreams is going beyond the "tetris effect" in your focus as you go to sleep.

You're meditating about the subject(s) as you lose consciousness.

Don't be discouraged when shit gets too disjointed from what you really intended at first. Who knows, it could be really interesting and what you were really looking for.

Different races with inherent skills fit for different jobs in society?

Some races being naturally more prone to violence than others and pure multiculturalism being an unsafe myth?

The feasibility of a society like that requires that the predators largely abandon everything that makes them predators and they must act like the prey in order for society to be cohesive?

If he didn't talk so much a good lawyer could probably have stretched a kind of quarantine usage to get him at least a light sentence perhaps.
http://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/aboutlawsregulationsquarantineisolation.html
He was pretty much a victim of a conspiracy too. While he may not return as mayor, would be amusing to see him doing other stuff and not locked up.
As the Ottertons kind of implied, the missing predator's families probably weren't exactly relieved the darted animals were found in the state they were in, I doubt they'd be particularly angry about the isolation, just the cover up, and even then probably not so much.

Damn, the detailing in that scene... :O

After seeing this movie a couple dozen times in the theatre, the only continuity error i've found is the subway sequences. The powered 3rd rail appears on the wrong (left) side as they get the subway car up to speed and chase down the one bad guy (Walter? Jessie?), but reverts back to the right hand side as they travel down the line and exit the tunnel.

I saw Judy Hopps on the train once, some time ago.

It was in that strange time when it's not afternoon rush hour but it doesn't quite have the fresh youth that the earlier parts of the day have, when it still feels everything is possible, nor was it that time late at night, when there is this strange sense of camaraderie and understanding between all those on the train in the dark under the cheap artificial light in the middle of the night that for some reason manifests itself in strong alienation and loneliness among travellers. Maybe it was during fall, when the sun sets early and 30 minutes travelling in the later afternoon feel like a missed evening of fun.
Anyway, that was when I saw her.

Juds' was sitting on a bench in the train all alone. Unlike most lonely - be it for a moment or forever - travellers on a train in 2015 (or whichever year it was), Judy was not using a cellphone. No texting, no browsing, no music. Just the silent symphonies of the train engines and the moving metal over the tracks, muffled by the steel and glass of the carriage. Judy could also hear this forgotten, selfless melody. Unlike most on the train who want to drain out the subtle noise by some distraction, she - perhaps consciously, perhaps not - was slowly rocking back and forth on the beat created by the vehicle. Like a cute sperg she move forwards and backwards and forwards again, slowly and with subtlety. She was gazing in front of her into ostensible nothing. Not viewing but thinking. I'd say she looked like a nighthowle'd weasel staring into headlights, its death certain and even though a weasel might not fully grasp its own mortality, it does realize something is quite amiss, but to be honest she looked like something else that I can't quite place. It was like seeing Gazelle off stage without her make up or costume. A certain poignancy surrounded it all. Then Judy took out some carrots and nibbled on them, making sure to eat them one by one, and bite by bite.

My headcannon is they have a loose union of city-states not unlike ancient Greece or perhaps very early US, with some states having different currency and customs.
Is Zootopia the capital? Who knows, maybe the way the federation is run doesn't have one.

>>
>>82986427
>>82986421
Actually I think it could be done.
What if Judy and Nick have to take down a group of predators agitating for eating meat again or some shit, might makes right and such.
They don't actually do it (evolution and shit also that would be too fucked up for a family film), but it rustles many feathers, there's fearmongerin' and hatecrimin' all over the place.
It could show that not everything is solved yet. There's this sentiment on the predators side, expressed through Nick, like no matter what we do you still don't trust us, we just can't be good enough. Whenever there's a slight disturbance you rush to put us all in collars again.
And prey (ie Judy) go like yeah but what else do we have, being small and delicious.
It becomes apparent the problem was buried and only half-solved, and they have to try and look at it through each others eyes.
I guess it's not that different from the original but how different can you make it if you're aiming for something modern and not just "racism is bad, collars, segregation" that an average joe could sweep under the rug saying it's all a matter of days past.

well, the directors did say Zootopia is inspired by New York, Barcelona and some other city I forgot about, so I would rather lean towards calling it closest equivalent to New York in the sense it appears the city has one of the largest cultural pull and appeal, even though it's (probably) not a capital, it is one of the most significant cultural sites out there.

You know how some people believe New York is the capital of the US because how vividly it is represented in pop culture? Same with Sydney.

As for Tundratown and Sahara square - this makes perfect sense mechanically wise. If you ever get to poke behind your refrigerator or around air conditioner you'll notice it's warm. The wall works in the same manner, but on a much larger scale.

Also, this picture is a clear New York reference, at least the way I see it.
>>
>>82986408
If they can still manage to make the story harmoniously add up with the "animal" setting like in the first movie itself then I absolutely have no problem with a sequel.

The amount of energy required to keep that temperature difference between tundratown (snow) and the other warm districts would be enormous.
Where does this energy come from? There could be slaves of predators underground who keep producing the energy. This is the reason why the city is 90% pray.
In a sequel judy could figure this out and attempt to free them. But other animals resist because that means the end of zootopia's way of life.

Forget about 1984, forget about Fahrenheit 451, forget about A Brave New World, if our world ends up like proto-Zootopia than we are fucked. This original plot was downright terrifying and depressing. I cannot think of a more disheartening society than one that is designed to aggressively reduce your very being to a powerless prisoner.

well, the difference between Zootopia and other animated movies is amount of love put into the movie - this is pretty apparent by the level of detail and one of the reason it enjoyed such a success: the public is probably starved for quality and authenticity, but are not even aware of it.
I'm sure the second part will be good too.
>>
>>82986804
I don't get people being impressed by reflections.
Reflections are a (relatively) simple rendering technique, especially if it isn't real time rendering. Adjusting stuff for certain things to be reflected isn't that awe inspiring either, compared to everything else.
I mean yeah it's cool but it's hardly "another dimension" t b h f a m

it isn't apparent how difficult it is to implement them for people not familiar with CGI, such as myself.
It is a nice complementing detail which just shows an extra effort put into the movie because they could have made blurry blobs and get away with it.

Reflections like that don't really require any extra effort

Okay, maybe a sequel should be about individualism. Every animal has its own strengths and weaknesses.
The system they have makes everybody equal. Same job requires different animals to do the same thing.
For example, in ZPD they could keep sending small animals like judy to apprehend dangerous big criminals only to see them fail over and over again.
Or they send big animals on stakeouts where they get spotted instantly and fail.
This makes animals hate eachother for not doing their job and ultimately divides everybody.
But in the end they realize each animal is different and they have to work together to get the job done.
The last sequence could be a lot of different types of animals cracking a case by playing on each animal's strengths.
The rodents could do some advanced scouting, judy could hear exactly what is happening everywhere, nick could silently steal an item by being sneeky, etc.
Every animal is unique and you can't expect everybody to do the same job equally.
>>
>>82986996
That's the thing, it's not extra effort.
FUR in this movie is (a lot of!) extra effort, reflections is on par with regular materials.

If we disregard meta argumentation, I don't think there are solid projectile weapons in the movie.
My argument is after Carrots returns to to Zootopia following months of unrest, none of the officers appear to be armed.
You'd think danger of bloodlusty predators randomly going savage would push the government to authorise armed patrols (looking at you Belgium), but apparently that's not the case.
Really, considering how gentle and all in all more humane the world is, I think Zootopians rejected violence long ago and only roll with tranqs and tazers.

>>82987634
Well, you see, the thing is Bellwhether's motives are inherently selfish and are centered around selfish vindictive viciousness.
If we were to draw parallels between irl "aggressive 10%" minorities, her case becomes extremely convincing and relatable, but in-world terms predators are as coy as the next guy and nothing justifies prejudices since everyone abandoned the old ways "thousands of years ago" (sic).

If there were instances of predators being, well, predators in the movie and Bellwhether had genuinely best concern of her species in mind, she'd be extremely likeable, but as things stand she just tries to get back at Lionheart for the old grudges, making the city WORSE FOR EVERYONE.
