>Two-time Oscar®-winner Cate Blanchett (“Blue Jasmine,” “Carol, “Cinderella”) joins Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok” as the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela, along with Jeff Goldblum (the upcoming “Independence Day: Resurgence,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Jurassic Park”) who joins the cast as the eccentric Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson (“Creed,” “Selma”) who will bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen, and Karl Urban (“Star Trek” trilogy, “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King”) who will add his might to the fray as Skurge.

Also returning cast:
Thor’s new cast members join returning stars Chris Hemsworth (“Rush,” “In the Heart of the Sea,” “Ghostbusters”) in the title role for the fifth time; Tom Hiddleston (“Crimson Peak,” “The Night Manager,” “Kong: Skull Island”) as Thor’s adversarial, adopted brother, Loki; Golden Globe® and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Idris Elba (“The Dark Tower,” “Luther,” “Beasts of No Nation”) as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; and Academy Award®-winner Sir Anthony Hopkins (“Silence of the Lambs,” “Nixon,” “Hitchcock”) again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard.

No Sif on the list. Weird. No Portman as well, though.

More stuff:

>Feige confirmed that Natalie Portman will not be in Thor: Ragnarok, adding that her absence is for "many reasons, many of which are in the film, so you will see that." One of the major reasons, according to Feige? Thor: Ragnarok takes place mostly in space:

>"But there are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie. Majority, 95 percent of the movie takes place in the cosmos."

>"Tonally and geographically, there are a lot of different planets in Thor: Ragnarok outside of the Nine Realms that we visit, and I'm excited to share what's going on. But it's a long way out. We start filming in July."

I want Thor to stay with Jane and just have her not appear any more. This is for two reasons.

Reason a) I don't care for a new romance interest plot. Especially since we'd have to deal with sulking Thor first. MEH

Reason b) I really want her absence to be obvious as the result of "I think I'm too good to play in your comic movie, even though I'm not doing anything worthwhile elsewhere" Same with Paltrow.

Third movie and still no ulik. I wanna see him go toe to toe with Thor using them uru knuckles

I gotta say, this cast is stacked, but in a very weird and unnique way. I mean, Doctor Strange has a murderers row of actors, but they make sense. They could be the cast of a Harry Potter or a Sam Mendes and it would work in either case. And Black Panther has it's shit so together that everyone thinks its a surefire hit already. The Black Fucking Panther! No one really thinks its a financial risk with its crew and hype machine in full swing (domestically at least).

But jesus christ this Thor movie is wild. Marvel watched What We Do in the Shadows and said "Who wrote and directed this? That weird effeminate vampire? GET HIM ON THE PHONE, WE'VE FOUND OUR GUY FOR THOR." And this cast is fantastic but all over the place. It honestly reminds me of Guardians of the Galaxy as their cast was being announced (Chriss Pratt! Dave Bautista! Glenn Close! John C. Reilly!). There's just no telling tonally or thematically or anything where this movie is going to go. It feels... like an indie movie, really. It feels like the riskiest Marvel movie since Ant-Man, and I am HYPED.

In the words of a great poet, you must always write with a pen. To think that the engineers of the bell towers, all the Chinese cobblers, followers of Falstaff all have to look upon the sullen and depressive ways of the godless harpies that parade our world in their weary ways. We should unite against our fallen brother, live in peace, not hate. You are not cattle, you are human. Nature will root thyself upon your hearts' merry content and we'll find a way to say, "Banish plump Jack and banish all the world".

When we think that our days are numbered, let us think about our lives and how much wonder we've spread to others. When we look towards the seas and think of Cthulhu, we listen to the wails and pains, we shouldn't do that...

When we are saddened, it is our duty to make right. Falstaff would not want us sullen, he brought wisdom to his peers and that of the youth. He was the Plato of that Republic.

When we look at the seasons through their unravished ways. Their silence, their peace. The Spring gives us hope, the Summer lets us be free, Autumn lets us reflect, Winter lets us rest.

Our seas are sapphires, the greens of our planet are emeralds, our mountaintops glisten like the diamonds of old...

If you could truly see how much you are loved, by at least someone, how much joy you can bring to one person's life... then you'd never raise a hand in rage again...

Come, friends. We only live once, let us not waste the most precious gift we have.

Are the writers and director of Ragnarok the same as either Thor 1 or 2?

If not then there is hope
>>
>>82962842
The clue was when they announced the director.

Waititi is good, and this should be his element. Unlike Branagh who is great but not very well suited. Track record shows that indie directors familiar with the weirder stuff are more willing to let the audiences accept stuff and put crazier, but more interesting movies. James Gunn and the Russos and even Whedon showed this (to different degrees, obviously).

Waititi is basically James Gunn with better comedy and better drama in his movies. He's seriously great. He also calls people 'egg' a lot.

Yeah, it's basically the same humour.

It has the same weird punchline timing that you never see coming. It's not like the Russos and Wrigth that barrage you with small jokes intricately intertwined, but they are so unexpected that you are consistently laughing.

But for better understading of him as a director, I'd watch Boy. I think it's on American Netflix. It's a very bittersweet movie, that takes some very beautiful turns. It also namedrops the hulk a bunch of times.

He's just about my favourite indie director, and the only reason I'm giving Thor a third chance.

One. One actor gave a good performance and every single other person completely phoned it in. The point that I'm making is that just because they cast a good actor, does not mean they are going to do a good job.

They can cast a gook as Valkyrie for all I care but I expected the main love interest to be good looking since they wont ever let Sif become a main character.

>>82965455
I can speak only for myself.
I liked the first Thor movie because it was simple but fantastical enough to be charming, and it had a compelling villain (especially if compared to other phase 1 villains like Red Skull or Stane). It surprised me at the time, but i guess i had low expectations (i really didn't give a damn about the MCU, i only saw TIH in cinema and checked out the others only way after each release because of the Avengers hype)

The Dark World was enjoyable too, it tried to go bigger, and i liked the Asgardian parts, the designs, action etc. but on the other end the story, while supposedly being more grandiose (traveling through dimensions! Love interest in danger! End of the world!), mostly fell flat imo, maybe because there was nothing particularly interesting about Malekith. The Earth parts were starting to get more annoying, as if the movie really tried to be a romcom more than anything. In the end, shit fell back on Hiddleston again, he's the saving grace of an otherwise mediocre/average movie that looks pretty

I can't say i hate either films, all things considered, but they're probably the weakest of the MCU. I guess 1 > 2, tho? I dunno, it's been a while since i watched both

Because they want the Hulk to have screentime but can't give him a main character role without losing money to Universal. So he gets to play as a sidekick in Thor3. This also allowed them to get rid of the girlfriend.

The relationship with Sharon was something that was set up back in WS.
If anything at least they're showing restraint, she had like, what, 2 or 3 scenes?
Not exactly "subplot" material.

>hype for Thor 3 goes from 0 to 100 once the cast is announced
Good Christ.
The casting guys for the MCU deserve a fucking raise. They have been on their shit since day one.
>>
>>82970983
They've reached the critical mass point.

Since the movies are always well received and financially successful, almost nobody says no. Especially for the villain parts that have a shorter contract.

Every time they say we want this guy, the guy just says yes. It's basically a 90% chance that the movie will be good, and a 10% chance it'll be passable.

Phase 1 was probably tougher without the name and with bigger constraints, but now it's almost an honour for the actors to be chosen for an almost guaranteed hit in their resumes.
>>
>>82970983
Google says it's Sarah Halley Finn. If it's all one person, holy shit she is based.
>>
>>82971098
Some will just do one off roles for their grand children like Redford did.
>>
>>82971156
It's funny they all say that before the movie is released, because these old-school guys still aren't sold on comic book movies and are a bit cautious about it, but once it's out they usually say they picked it because it was a smart script.

At least Michael Douglas and Redford have said that.

It's kind of interesting to see them change opinions after the reception (and the paycheck)
>>
Am I the only one that wants a scene with Goldblum and Stan Lee playing chess?
>>
>>82971240
It's hard to parse out lip service to the film, and genuine opinions on it.
>>
>>82971156
I hope his grandkids are happy because he did good. I think Pierce is pretty underrated as far as MCU villains go.
>>
>>82971305
Well yeah, there's that too.

I like the actress. Don't much are about her character compared to Sif but this is probably the only example of race bending that I'm actually kinda not down for.

>but this is probably the only example of race bending that I'm actually kinda not down for.
Why?
>>
>>82971617
In my experience on this shit many people say both films are shit/worst of the MCU. To me that's the Iron Man sequels and Norton Hulk films.
>>
>>82971657
>In my experience on this shit many people say both films are shit/worst of the MCU
Those people are shitheels and don't appreciate fun and feels.
>>
>>82961133

She was annoying. The only notable thing about her was her tits. Kat Dennings' "comedy" shtick is grating.
>>
>>82971728

Her tits almost weren't even worth it since she kept them bundled up the whole time.

I'm not entirely sure. Maybe I liked Idris being the only black God in the films or something. Again It's not like I really care about Valkryie though I do like her metal tits.
>>

This is pretty much my feelings on it.
I figured it would be embarassingly bad shoehorning Hulk into it, but this instantly shot up its interest.

Kind of sucks that we are just now getting a focus on the fantasy/cosmic stuff over Jane/Earth bullshit. Oh well, Im excited, I hope to see Surtur and Bill in Thor 4
>>
>>82971937
>Thor 4
That's definitely not going to happen barring Ragnarok making +$1 Billion
>>
>>82970983
If we're handing out raises, the costume department at Marvel also deserve recognition. They've only gotten better, Black Panther alone makes them a success
>>
>>82971101
I mean she has her own casting company. I guess casting involves her accepting auditions and being the first person there to accept a shortlist for Feige and directors to meet after.
>>
>>82971937

Oh christ, please no. The thor franchise needs a desperate reboot.
>>
>>82962431

Perlmutter can suck my cock. Good riddance.
>>
>>82971994
But they can still use Thor as a means to introduce more cosmic stuff in phase 4. Then again Guardians may have that covered. Dammit why cant I get my fire demon!?

>>
Can /co/ hire a private investigator to get a picture of Perlmutter?

That would be nice.
>>

He should have been Odin, goddammit. I will never get over that rumor not being true. Anthony Hopkins has made it clear he doesn't even want to be there.
>>
>>82972056
>fire demon
Because that shit doesn't jive with the straight sci-fi tone they set up.
>>
>>82972018
Well Ragnarok is sort of like a reboot, to start again. Seems like a good place as any to try. And come on, they still have Ulik, Surtur, and Mangogg to try.
>>
>>82972085
All of them have outside of Hiddleton. And I don't blame them at all.
>>
>>82960922
What's the point? They aren't ever going to show Thor doing something that really showcases how much of a powerhouse he's supposed to be.
>>
>>82972108
>Well Ragnarok is sort of like a reboot, to start again
Hopefully with good actors this time. Just please get rid of Hemsworth.

Jesus Christ. Although the Terrance Howard thing is mostly his fault; that dude is just as crazy. He demanded MORE money than RDJ for the sequel.

The villain of Iron Man 3 was originally supposed to be a woman (as it is in the original Extremis story), but that asshole Ike Perlmutter nixed it because he thought she wouldn't sell enough toys.
>>
>>82972223
It's a combo of the two, because yes Howard was a retard who deserved to be replaced, but then Perlmutter tried to pass it off as "nobody will even realize he was replaced at all because audiences can't see the difference between him and Don fucking Cheadle"
>>
>>82972334
Yeah, but now I have a whole shelf full of Aldrich Killians.
>>
>>82972181
I'm talking about something specifically for him. Hulk has his smashing Loki bit, Tony has his tanking a tank shell, Cap has a bunch of scenes where he downs a whole squad of soldiers, but nothing for Thor except a low-level rock monster and sort of holding his own against Hulk in the first movie.

He needs something that really gives a perspective on how powerful the character rightfully should be, and so far all he's been is either support or fill-in.
>>
Big question though. Are they really gonna show Thor's power here? Motherfucker looked like he hasn't reached his limits yet.
