Instead of crushing the rock of eternity, the gods, the lords of chaos and order, Shazam as a character, Billy's story, Sivana, turning Billy minto the wizard for the sake of it. Etc.

The problem people had with that is that is not an alternative take on the character, is that pretty much everything was like turning Superman into a martian. Sure he is an alien, but if you get rid of Krypton is not the same gy even if the custume is similar.
