nothin like a good hexagon shield.
How are those Hiveworks submissions going?
>tfw you weren't good enough to get invited to the secret web comic creator club
>>82907185
Almost done. Just need some character art. It'll be submitted this weekend.
>>82907286
jesus crist man you have so many feels pics , im sure you could make a webcomic by just copying and pasting them and then adding dialog
also who are the members of this "secret club"?
>>82907286
There's a what?
>>82907173
I know right?
>>82907509
bones, scribblehatch and dewd
>>82907533
Dewd doesn't deserve to be lumped in with those other two.
>tomorrow is my day off.
>did layouts last night.
>pencils tonight, inks tomrrow!
>come home to find my wife got me presents, pic related.
I'm not strong enough.
>>82907618
yes, he does.
he's the middle ground between bones and scribs.
honestly, out of all three bones is my favorite. his optimism is catchy!
>>82907648
just read one chapter
>>82907648
you have very shallow happiness
>>82907533
dewd is ok his art is not the best but i have seen his comic and he has improved, very very slowly but he is improving
i kinda wish he makes remake of his first chapters one day so i can actually understand what is going on in his comic
>>82907698
I can't even decide which one to tap into first. I'm like an aloholoc\heroin addict caught between a drink and a needle.

I don't want to kick off this thread with a Dewd shitstorm but please don't. His art is awful, he has no resolve or will to improve. He just wants to scrawl his masturbation of a comic as fast as he can so he can blast it in our faces every single god damn day.
>>82907805
i have a good feeling about this new project and for kids cartoon style, its very consistent and polished
i think this ones going to catch on with people and become popular as fuck, it might even catch meme status one day!

I really hope somebody wasn't stupid enough to invest in that shit.

i mean, i tried reading the first chapter but i couldn't understand shit about it but the recent pages have tolerable drawings so i guess he really is putting effort into it,

do you guys ever think we will be invaded by deviant art webcomic artists and finally start seeing more gems like this:
maybe dewd will be able to draw as good as pic related one day so we can atleast laugh at his stuff instead of just feeling bad for the poor guy
heres hoping! fingers crossed! ijustcantwait.jpeg
>>82909145
this is actually so bad it's funny. dewd is straddling that middle ground where it's just sad and bad. he needs to either go full retard, or git gud.

These are some sketches I did to start getting a feel for the characters. I've been tumbling the idea in my head for a long time, and these characters have been redrawn over and over again. They're supposed to be mages, but I decided to go simple rather than extravagant. These are likely their final forms.
The setting is akin to our own Cold War era, except magic exists and is commonplace in this world. The story focuses around a conflict in the so-called "homeland" of the mages. Forces of light and dark are rising, setting the stage for a great conflict. These two are caught in the middle. No, it's not a typical high school anime setting.

As long as you set the scene somewhere, you can often get away without backgrounds, particularly if the focus of the panel is on someone's expression, or dialogue. Simple colours, shapes and/or textures can also emphasise someone's emotional or psychological state.
If you have a broadly cartoony style, people are more likely to forgive a lack of backgrounds.
>>82913657
You can probably go down to about 8pt lettering, depending on the font.
While standard dialogue should be a consistent size, it's fine to make the font larger or smaller if someone's yelling or muttering under their breath.
>>82920443

>>82922062
You should be active on social media! It can help promote your comic (which I think is the best in /HYW/) and you can better interact with readers!
>>82922269
You're probably right, but social media never really appealed to me and I'm not really at a stage where I feel like I can afford to spend that kind of time on promotion. I'm having a hard enough time staying on schedule without even more things I can use to justify procrastinating.
>>82919614

Basically
panel 1
>Valkyrie X (Skalmöld?) shows some of the others the location of a secluded hot spring she knows about and everyone's super hype about it
panel 2
>Everyone sings the praises of hot springs
panel 3
>Valkyrie Y mentions off-hand that hot springs appearing in Asgard is a sign of the increasing power of the fire giants and the approach of the end times
panel 4
>awkward silence. Maybe valkyrie Y is oblivious towards the sudden change in mood.
>>82926251

>>82928131

yeah that isnt much of a gag. if anything you'd split it up.. the mention of the fire giants.. then the jolly offhand mention of ragnarok, which results in a little reaction-panel. which still isnt much of a gag. maybe she has a cutesy crayon drawing (or whatever they had at the time. ochre?) thought balloon of fire giants causing hilarious destruction

If you're going for a realistically proportioned human, you'll want your lower legs to be about the same length as the upper legs. Right now they're way too short. Arms are a little too short, too - when the arms are hanging down the sides, the wrists should be just about the same height as the crotch.
Not a terrible start though.

>>82932663
There are better references out there, research this shit.
>>82932716
i like the first one best
you could also give her matching shoes if you wanted to save on palette at the slight cost of believability
>>82932716
Second one is best. Having a 50-50 red-green split is generally a worse idea that having one color clearly dominate.
Maybe a little more green wouldn't hurt. Like, the manchets or the collar.
>>82932815
that's pretty distorted though. forearms too long, shins too short. pelvis slightly too long but inconsistent by the angles.
>>82932716
None. It's all uneffay as fuck. Those shoe colors too. If I really have to pick, it'd be the first one. It feels like Christmas, but it's more eyecatching than the rest because the others are playing it more safe with the colors.

I am terrible with colors, so I won't suggest any palette, but whatever you choose, drop the stripe in the middle, it's just awful. Also, the "cuffs" and the base of the jacket, I don't know how this shit is called, they should be the same color.

your art is taxing to follow. Composition doesn't facilitate flow, making it jarring most transitions. I find myself having to stop and analyze each panel to see what's going on instead of being able to picture scenes unfolding by themselves. You went for a sort of monotone color scheme, but the way you color doesn't bring out what you want to convey (ie: 3rd row middle, it's very unclear what the man with the backpack is doing at first glance, and the backpack blends into his figure).
I like this better
>>82939109
taxing, that's it
i wouldn't say jarring, but the monochrome does make it easy for the eyes to get lost.
that said, i'm fucking loving this. when you put in the attention effort, you get rewarded for it. this entire first plot here..

>mostly play vidya and read comics

I don't think that's happening, so does this mean my story is doomed to be bland and shit?
>>82939354
oh fucking god i can't take how subtly funny this comic is. it's like, wakfu-tier and then some.
and i really appreciate how hitting next skips the banner shit at the top so i dont have to scroll all the way down again
btw you should post your WIPs in here so i can fix your english
also, is there a way i can bookmark it so i see the latest page each time i check? the front page starts with page 1
>>82939861
hmm, for once i have nothing to say. it's just kinda.. this happened on the way to more stuff happening. keep it up? i guess?
>>82939995
just dont write about hard-hitting real-lifey shit. write the shit you like from your videogames. or the shit you think is missing from them. that's what i do. fuck real life.
>>82939995
yes, if you haven't had sex with a girl, you are not qualified to write a beautiful story/comic.
>implying virgins know shit about comics
>>82939995
Yes. What you will write otherwise will either be derivative or bland. How could you write about heartache if you've never known heartache? It would be like describing chocolate having never tasted it. You could write a heartache similar to one you've seen in a movie, but it would be like writing about chocolate, saying "it looked like poop and tasted brown."
Or you could prove them all wrong and write about something you've never experienced and take us there. That could be interesting too. Like what a psychopath thinks normal is, except reversed.
>>82939995
i think what everyone is trying to say iskill yourself
Have been doing a fair bit of writing over the past few days. I've more or less completely reworked the plot I want to do so aside from some situations and bits of dialogue I'm sort of starting over from scratch.
That said I think it was worth it as it's gotten me writing again and will hopefully get me back to drawing again soon
>>82940373

>>82941250
it's unintimidating
meanwhile his designs are fun to reinterpret. they have really clear features that it's easy to adapt, while at the same time they're done so shoddily that you feel compelled to fix them. like, i like annabeth's cow/lion/whatever tail. i love it. i want to draw it so the lines of the tail are parallel instead of one skinny bit then one fat bit.
>>82941250
actual retards get pity love sometimes. like forest gump, there's this kind of innocence about them that awakens the female mother instinct. meanwhile, social retards are creeps/monsters.
>>82938640
Haha, I will have to ask the writer where he got the name. You almost got it though, the characters and story are loosely based on a DnD campaign, so the reptilians came from there, but they were called something else.
>>82938717
I will take your word for it then! I am just trying to fix every sort of criticism we get.
>>82939109
Yeah, I know, these first pages are pretty messy, we published them only recently, but the pages themselves are kinda old... but I assure you it gets better. I don't know if the flow of the panels are that good still, but the drawings, composition, and the way I use the colors improve for sure.
I am so glad we took our time to release our stuff, though, at first we were going to have all black and white pages. Just look at pic related.

I believe that Dewd and Bones are actually good artists. They're just trolling by drawing shitty things to rape our eyes with. I believe that animu shota is done by Dewd. So it's like those tropes in cartoons where a veteran hides his final form by appearing weak for a very important purpose except those two chose to appear like manchildren and they do it for free.
>>82941562
yeah because if i'm not mistaken, cherufes are from your neck of the woods. i mean as an american everything south of the border is one part of the world, an entire continent plus mexico. they're lava monsters
okay so you already have someone proofreading? no prob then.
see what you should do is, make the homepage the last page, but when you give out the link for promotion or publicity, give it as the first page. alternatively you can have a splash page with a 'first time reader? go here' and 'most recent page, go here' link. but that means one extra step before checking the comic, and most people want INSTANT gratification. i'm literally checking 100 other comics every day, so I don't want yours to just go on my 'eh, nevermind' list.

Good thing Angel is there to calm things down!
>>82943649
always a butt to write on, that angel
angel's arm is pretty short in panel 1 actually. remember even if she never would, she has to be able to reach her cooch
also i'm just realizing the vertical spacing in your text is terrible. anyone more experienced wanna let dewd know the name of that setting?
4th panel: their* (you got it right in the 7th though)
5th panel: tongue*
oh shit, the return of licky, my favorite anna moment
and this confused ambiguous sexism is making me laugh.
aand the last panel was genuinely original. this is a good one dude. i'm laughin. watch rocosho's right arm though, the left arm has the elbow at the right spot but the right one has grown extra length whilst bending. you do that sometimes
>>82943827
and thus the motherly instincts awaken
>>82939995
Either live your life or read real books or something. You need to bring something your audience hasn't seen before. You're almost certainly not going to execute on a level that will make a derivative work exceptional.

also i decided to change my tripcode but that's not important
FUN FACT: Robin was named with this joke in mind 12 years ago, despite the fact that the restaurant only started using that jingle 6 years ago. i'm that good
so I didn't mean to dwell on the cruddiness of the masquerade this long but I couldn't help it. i don't want to make Ryou sound cool or clever, he's just kind of feeling Frasiery having played the same role for so many years, and he's getting sick of the cliches. that's why he's-a-cookin'-a-somethin'-up in this here last major story arc (though god knows how many more i'll cram into its interstitial spaces, when it's done, i'm pretty much done)

>>82913422
What's most important is that we knew where the scene takes place; you should always have a background early in the page (unless of course you're narrating a scene in which the character's location is supposed to be revealed at the end). It's rare for me not to draw backgrounds unless the panel's focus is a character's face; that page is fine.
>>82917868
There's definitelly Anime influence on mine, I'm sure everybody can tell.
>>82939995
If you want to deliver something exceptional, it'll help to have memorable expériences or at least read a lot of books (not only fiction books).
Obviously whatevr you write will be more fantastic than what you've experienced (unless you're doing SoL), but even relativelly plain experiences from something like traveling or camping can give a bit more flavor to your comic.
>>82933598
I can barelly keep up with my page schedule. But upsating the map I think has a bit more charm; I plan to change the style of the map after this arc to make it a little clearer.
>>82938640
I think it comes from the association some might make to the European Salamander
>>82950576
hmm.. yeah fire and coldblooded critters do go hand in hand, since they have to heat themselves up via absorption
but i'm willing to bet this is just something someone labeled randomly once in some modern mediaalso no i don't really see anime influence in your art. on the contrary.. if it resembles anything it's 80s cartoons from the era when almost any country might be a co-production, but especially germany, italy, and canada
>>82950576
Yeah, my fight scenes are a bit rusty. One of my personal goals was to shave down page count. Part of the learning process ended up involving drawing WAY too many panels per page. So I was trying to swing it the other way and well... you can kind of see some of the results. But there are some pages I did really like. That's one of them, but I don't blame you if it's not as coherent as it could have been.

Don't get me wrong, I still think those pages looks very good as a whole. Them being a bit hard to follow was a rather minor complain and due mainly to several panels being quite narrow.
That page I'm responding to looks great; gives that Tokyo Ghoul or Parasyte feel, which are two of my all time favorite manga

Do any of you put memes into your comics?
>>82953344
if you do, consider suicide
Anons, I'd love to read your stuff, so for the love of God include a link in your posts.
>>82951942
Anon, the stuff on the right with the simple "screentones" are much better than the stuff you liked with the shitty degrade. The line-art-only your friend liked may be even better, maybe you should use the screentones more sparingly, with lighter shades of grey and less variation in general.
But then, your prob is quite the opposite. Your thin line animu coloring style is awful. By that I mean not only are your paintings ugly, generic, with bad color palette and lineart, but also, look at the deformed face of the pink haired girl, the askewed loli's hand holding the sword... THIS lack of draftsmanship masked by colors and effects look like bad DA tier, your comics however look great.
The drawings in your comic look like they were made by someone who understands anatomy and 3D form, who knows how to use lineweight, is confortable with it and chose to apply these principles to a manga style, yet your colored drawings are flat generic animu shit that look like they were made by someone copying images off a how to draw manga magazine.
>>82953344
Don't do it anon, I was just playing a flash game on kongregate, and it was pretty good, the art was beautiful... but it had a bunch of "not bad" "ffuuuu" in text, and then the boss was a rage face.
It might look like a good idea when these memes are popular and you want to be part of the group, you want to get an easy laugh... but they get old, and they get old fast. You don't want that in your portifolio.
>>82953611
Holy shit. These are all opposite to what I think/choose, but every sentence is still noted! I have been thinking for awhile now actually, that maybe my eyes aren't really used to the things I make. I'm used to reading professional stuff done with real manga tools, so I have been ehh-ing at my paint tool sai "screentones". Many of my idols also use dark tones and blacks like the pics on the left part (they do that because they are also lazy), so as you can see, I imitated, as usual.
>with lighter shades of grey and less variation in general
Okay, I can get behind this.
>sparingly
Yep, it did looked cluttered, yes?
>But then, your prob is quite the opposite.
Hahaha! I love it! Thanks for this! I'll take note and try to work around my color palletes, and put more effort again. Weird things happen. I swear when I draw as lineart, they look fine, but when I got to the latter stages, that's the only time I realize something's wrong. Often, I even have to transfer the drawing from my netbook to my phone. There are some errors I only see when I'm on my phone, and when it's already too late. Idk what's going on.
>your comics however look great.
Don't be kind. I needed that critic.
>The drawings in your comic look like they were made by someone who understands anatomy and 3D form
I... actually don't read anatomy, sorry! I just make projections about what the height and weight should be. and the ones I did in comic are made from thick scribbles. Here's how I usually did:
Colored: Scribbles -> rough sketch -> polish sketch -> thin linearting
Comic: Scribbles -> polished
They were born from thick squiggly lines that I "chiseled" with erasor tool until it looked good in my eyes. Sounds stupid, right? That's why I get so shocked when I read these: >>82932578 and >>82932815
I just got my hands on an japanese anatomy book. Hopefully this helps.
Did some character design. What do you think of her outfits? The one on the left is her everyday clothes.
What's your favourite webcomic and why?
How would I make a successful webcomic?
>>82954701
What are your parameters for success?
>>82954739
Nedroid-tier popularity.
I'm thinking of writing a comedy webcomic
>>82954759
Well, Nedroid has exactly one reason why people like it.
It's funny.
It's got one of the best batting averages in webcomics because the guy doesn't post anything unless he's actually GOT something, and he's a funny guy who works with a lot of other funny guys like KC Green, Cristopher Hastings and Brian Clevinger.
So, find funny people, observe them, dissect the funny and do a shit ton of funny.
And remember that it's taken Nedroid nine years to get to where it is today.
>>82954701
A lesson is learned but the damage is irreversible.
Define your goals.
>>82940373
We all know repressed virgins write the best, most depraved erotica, and by that logic asocial shut-ins write the most gripping and beautiful stories about the outside world.
Updated my comic, spent almost entirety out of my day offs backing up old drawings on my blogs because a bunch of my friends just got their blog deleted. It spooked me. I don't want to have to do this ever again, so I'll be maintaining a time stamp archive from now on, this is feeling too much like work...
Now onto the new page, and I guess back to my day job.
>>82955532

>something's gone terribly wrong
I know there was a lot of debate previously over whether it needed changing, but I really feel like this phrasing reads a lot more naturally than the previous version

I'm personally not offended by the idea of your chatroom - these threads aren't the best format for every type of discussion, certainly - but to say its community is identical to the threads' is disingenuous. So you can't answer it, huh?
Stop trying to smear discord chat because you're butthurt. There is nothing wrong with that chat.
>>82959371
If this is how you defend the chat, it speaks volumes of its registry.
>>82959507
Misreply: >>82959475
>>82959507
What is wrong with that really?
>>82959371
I'm just a lurker anon, I'll be fine; and like I said, I don't personally have a problem with it to begin with. Besides, it's already been linked two or three times in the thread if anyone wanted to check it out. I'm just saying you shouldn't be too surprised or offended if someone is bothered by it, and antagonizing them is only going to make them feel justified in their fears. I mean, I know where we are, but it really just makes things worse in these situations.
>>82959507
>>82959527
Not involved with this discussion at all, but putting the burden of evidence on the guy claiming there's a problem seems perfectly reasonable.
>>82959507
So stop smearing and give some evident.
All you do is claiming Discord is bad yet you have nothing to support your claim.
>>82959615
I am one of, I think, three posters at this arguing against the Discord right now.
Again, were any of you here for the late parts of the last thread?
>>82959615
>evident
Just FYI, the word you're thinking of is "evidence". Evident is an adjective meaning something like "apparent".
>>82959715
Thanks, sorry I should proofread before hitting submit
>>82959615
Discord is shit. It is known.
>>82959647
>Again, were any of you here for the late parts of the last thread?
No. What happened?

Go.
And when you find what I'm talking about, look carefully at it. It's not just one rogue.
>>82959931
True that - it is a hive of scum and villainy the likes of which have not been seen since Something Awful.
It's where people in this thread go to talk shit behind others backs, because they're COWARDS who won't man up and air their grievances in this thread, like adults.
>>82960019
How did you know it's not just one. Answer, don't deflect.
>Niggas doin' all this just because they're mad they got banned.
>"It's for the good of the thread!" as they fill the thread with shitposts and ignore anon's who need advice.
Oh I'm having a laugh.
>>82960058
You got me here. It is just one rogue. Where did the sign go we used to post to keep him away?
>>82960057
I'm very public about my grievances; it's not my fault if the person I've got a beef with doesn't listen.
>>82960057
>>82960057
I was in the chat for a while. People were open with their grievances there and here. We are 4 chan users. If we hate you, we let you know.
>>82960119
Which one? Because there's a sign for each of the only two people who have been banned from the discord chat.
Can we agree that posting chat logs is a shitty move?
I'm sure I'll be accused of being somebody just for saying this.
>>82960241
Nah.
This whole discussion you guys are having is silly and pointless drama, but I don't see how posting chat logs is any worse.
>>82960285
>Nah.
It's not a shitty move?
>>82960300
Nah.
>>82960057
Y'know, this is funny, because in this conversation is Scribblehatch, who took his trip off, because he's a coward, who won't man up.
>>82960310
Ever had it happen?
>>82960300
Why would it be?
>>82960315
Which posts?
>>82960319
Yah. And I didn't mind, because I don't shit talk people behind their back.
>>82960379
What did you say in the chat log in question?
>>82960379
So talking shit about people behind their back is shitty, at least.
>>82960398
I said I masturbated to West Tree Academy of Heroes. I have no regrets.
>>82960441
Can you show it to us?
>>82960423
I think it's dishonest. Personally I don't like people who act all nice in one place and badmouth you in another. Why can't we act like men and hate one another openly?
>>82960468
>Can you show it to us?
W-what are you saying? B-baka!
>>82960476
Is resolving differences a part of that equation or do we all just interrupt and blackball each other to death ad infinitum?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmFXEcI_AA4
>>82960635
We got it, that doesn't solve the underlying grievances however.
You interrupt something in the middle that just delays it to happen again later, swear to god.
>>82960658
>that doesn't solve the underlying grievances however
>implying the majority of people here are actually interested in a healthy community
>>82960241
No.
Unless it's a one-on-one conversation, it's no different from posting Twitter or Tumblr reply/reblog chains. Even then it's not bad if it's pertinent, like a namefag saying one thing in a thread and the opposite elsewhere.
Personal conversations should be respected, but not shit like group chats.
>>82960350
I can't say for this thread as I'm not the anon making that claim, but he took his trip off to shitpost with cat images in the last one.
>>82961012
one of those screencaps last thread was from a pm
>>82906867
>Less than a third of posts have images
>Half of those are reaction images
So uh... how's everybody's webcomic?
>>82961083
How did you know one was a PM?
Are you Scribb?
>>82961145
it sticks out from the rest
its the screencap of a phone
>>82961083
Oh, I thought you meant in general.
>>82961483
Well it seems to be a slippery slope too.
>>82961223
If that's the case Scribb can easily identify who's the one shitposting and call him/her out
Why are you trying to turn people in /hyw/ against the whole chat.
Was all this "Discord is bad!" simply a petty revenge?
>>82961553
You were the one posting the screencaps last thread.
Are you curious how I can tell?
>>82961600
You are wrong. lol
Humor me, I want some keks. I'm curious.
>>82953344
memes will always be funny, and always have been.
you just can't treat them the same as you would well-thought-out original jokes. they're quick shorthand. they're not punchlines. you treat them the same way you do popculture references. you look at an old-ass cartoon from the 30s and if it does some meme from the 00s like '23 skiddoo' or 'yes we have no bananas' it's always used in a way that makes sense in the context, it's not expecting big applause from it.
personally i like it when they show up in a totally offkilter place where youd never expect it, like in Disorder in the Court when Moe and Larry are just trying to nonchalantly brush off the fact that they have just completed a game of tic tac toe on a guy's ass, and they're just like "uhh say jasper, what comes after 75?" "76!" "that's the spirit" referencing the ancient meme 'the spirit of 76' as well as the casual current meme of referring to a random fellow as 'Jasper'
>>82961600
Instead of this witch hunt, maybe you could put this effort into comics.
>>82961600
Come on, don't just bluff. Hurry up and show us your dank detective skill.
>>82954693
i love that outfit on the right, so cool. cool fantasy outfits are my entire jam
her casual outfit is a little bit manly what with its square shoulders and high collar (Which makes me notice how long her neck is. she'd struggle to touch the top of her head. also that's a hell of a narrow waist and a thigh gap, but it works!) but it's fine. i like the designs on the belly
>>82961628
>>82961675
>>82961705
What are you doing?
>>82954701
i guess Pilli Adventure because it so consistently makes me laugh and enjoy their wacky adventures
and i guess my goal is to have a wiki where people obsessively mark down everything about every character and place, and i'm able to fill in the gaps
>>82961721
Asking you to stop shitposting and work on your comic?
I know, fruitless endeavor, but I'm an optimist.
>>82961675
You're using the term witch hunt but I feel like you've participated in one before.
>>82961827
What? Why?
I'm saying there's better ways to use the gaping void of time than guessing said what about who.
>>82961891
How long have you been in these threads? Are you just now calling something a witch hunt? When it's aimed AT the discord membership?
i am amazed you two have this much energy to blow on arguing
>>82961995
I wish it was just two of us, because then I could ignore him and he'd go back to being normal instead of a hyper-paranoid assist who up threads.
>>82953344
Only if they're seamlessly integrated into the comic in such a way that any memery seems pure coincidence and not intentional.
Also only if my artist doesn't catch me in the act and makes me change the dialogue.
>>82962058
I think you're talking about me and I'm not a him.
>>82962409
any meme that previously existed as a meme but not in the modern sense gets a pass. the same way you can't trademark something if it's just a normal word or phrase
>>82961961
>How long have you been in these threads?
I've lurked for about a year on and off.
>Are you just now calling something a witch hunt?
Yeah.
>When it's aimed AT the discord membership?
I don't even know what this is supposed to mean. All I'm saying is that you could be making your dream comic instead of trying to dig up who screen capped what on /co/.
>>82962894
Point out the rest of the witch hunts when you see them. The earlier the better.
>>82962996
I will.

>>82962409

>>82963044
oh this is another thing
a meme should be repeated, but by its listeners, not by the same source endlessly. so if you ever do include something in your comic, don't do it twice, let alone more than that.
>>82961714
Thank you.
The neck still too long? lol I thought I shorten it enough.I used to draw longer neck than this.
The shoulder pads are intentional for lore and personality reason.
I might thicken up her mid section a bit.
>>82963127
well it's in proportion with her head, more or less, but she's got such a big head.. it's tough to say. the collar provides sort of an illusion of a longer neck. i think it's actually fine.
>>82963112
> but by its listeners,
AUGH
came here to see new wips and see if anybody replied to y new cover page i made last night, people arguing of over a chat room the whole time i was gone, lol yall what m8?
if yall keep derailing the thread like this it might get auto saged/banned like the boy falls in love with a girl cell phone meme did
>>82961995
>>82961132
THIS!
>>82962058
are you sure? it looks like two people arguing back and fourth about nothing, 1 is definitely scribblehatch cuz he was banned? and the other one is amonzone cuz he is in charge of the chatroom?
i went there last night for a few minutes and left, even though i got treated like the john cena tier living meme i am when i went there which is kind of weird and annoying i might go back one day but i doubt it, i dont like chatrooms but thats just me(i didn't know discord was a chatroom until i went there last night), i mean i used to like chatrooms in the 90's and early to mid 2000's but now chatrooms are kind of 2retro4me i.m.o., or maybe im just super anti social and just cant get into chatrooms, either way NO ONE BUT YOU AND SCRIBBLEHATCH CARE ABOUT SKYPE/DISCORD/ETC CHATROOMS SO STOP DERAILING THE THREAD AND POST WIPS, COMICS, IDEAS AND CONCEPT ART! lol
>>82963252
my* new cover page i made last night*
>>82961961
It's not just the discord. It's also the Skype group linked in the OP, the other separated Skype groups and basically all sorts of HYW related chats and forums where people use their internet names. The problem is having one platform where everyone is anonymous and several other ones where people have formed a certain group dynamic. The result is people from one group pissing each other in the group off, but venting in other grouos or anonymously here in HYW. When people take their shit here, they automatically suspect anons who respond to them and call them out on their shitty attitude to be participatants of their respected group and accuse them of being "that guy" or at least assume they probably know the person, which leads to blind accusations, distrust in the chats and this thread and, lastly, an overall bad climate.
That's why I can only advise everyone who participates in one of the HYW related chats, to not badmouth anons behind their back, to let go of personal grudges when posting here and to not make the chats a topic here and ignore shitposters. Or just generally don't visit those chat rooms, they're overall toxic and promote a mindless hive mentality. And that is why discord is shit and now fuck off?
>>82963466
>to let go of personal grudges
If fuckin only
>>82963466
Discord and Skype are both better than /hyw/ because there aren't any anonymous cowards, if people talk shit they do it face to face.
>>82963624
You're a booring boor.
Ok, I got two full pages for you today!
First this one.
Ever read your old comic that made you cringe really hard? Aw man.
Going through my archives is giving me those cringe something fierce.
>>82963860
And then this one!
>>82963871
Luckily for me, all of my old comics from high school are gone forever because I deleted my deviantart.
>>82963874
I would say you're inviting controversy with this but that would require your comic to have an actual readership so I think you're fine.
>trying to come up with a good premise for a joke
>finally find one that's actually pretty funny (because it's a total ripoff of a nedroid comic)
>it's based on things that haven't been established yet in the comic
aaaaaaaahhhhhh
>>82963871
No, actually.
Usually I go "man, this is way better than I remembered".
Hopefully it's because I'm better able to see the good parts and not be bothered so much by minor flaws once I get some distance, and not just because I'm getting worse at comics.
>>82964007
Well, I mean, it's West Tree, you should expect that kind of stuff from it.
I mean, I thought it would be a funny joke if a feminist was accuseing someone of rape while trying to rape them at the same time.
>>82964065
Well, that comic made me cringe hard is because its the one I submitted for 20th anniversary Global Shonen Jump contest, that is half storyboard half inked, its 50 pages, about some guy's MMO waifu becoming real.
>>82963874
no need for a comma after xenophobic
also my fucking sides
>>82964007
half the appeal of westtree is how completely irreverent it is with regards to controversy. kinda reminds me of ugly americans
>>82964065
just gotta save it for later. or use it as a preview of those things that aren't established yet. though if i'm interpreting the last panel properly, perhaps it's for the best you wait.
>>82963871
the art, sure, but my old humor was better. except when it fell completely flat because i used a punchline that was just 'haha yeah that happens!'
>>82964198
What's the other half?
>>82963874
This was actually pretty funny.
>>82964152
Oh, that kinda stuff.
Yeah I've definitely got a bunch of ideas where I go "thank God I was too much of a lazy cunt to ever draw this drek" when I remember them. Like, stuff based on my WoW character. Fortunately I was even more of a procrastinator back tehn, so none of them ever saw paper where I could get properly ashamed of them.
>>82964255
Yeah, it's definitely getting saved. Wouldn't make any sense atm and there's a later reveal that would lose some impact.
>though if i'm interpreting the last panel properly, perhaps it's for the best you wait.Literally eating babies. I was thinking it might be funny to make it an homage to Goya's painting of Cronus but with a silly look on the character's face
>>82964262
there is none. it's only got half appeal
>>82964262
ehh like 20 percent of it is eroticism and 30 is complete screwball comedy that occasionally hits the spot just right.
>licky!
>>82963624
Look at this guy, talking shit about people anonymously.
>>82963874
I feel like you're trying to either offend me or make me rally behind your ideology, but all I feel is apathy. Your comic is so bad I feel nothing. It's noteworthy in this, so I thought to share that with you.
>>82964848
If you take anything that's seems offensive in West Tree seriously then you're a fucking idiot.
That's the thing with the comic, the characters are completely serious with everything they say, but I don't and I'm just making it irionic.
Let me repeat that, the characters are serious I'm silly.
>>82964198
Half of no appeal is 0. At least ugly Americans had some craftsmanship behind it.
>>82965138
or to put it a little better, it's pretty obvious from the way you write it that you aren't taking any of it seriously. if you actually cared that much about STATEMENTS you'd do them completely differently from the way you do them.
>>82965581
Yeah, I was probably a little too aggresive about handeling that first sentence and would like to apologize now to the original poster.
>>82965620
>aggresive
>handeling
At least you're consistent.
>>82966744
shit dude last few pages have been down to like 1-2 typos each. it used to be almost unreadable. he's woikin on it.
Man, the well of my creativity is not running very deep at all this day.
>>82968457
That's not a bad joke.
>>82968597
It's a working joke and I'll go with it as-is if I can't come up with better, it just feels kind of off. Like, the rhythm is a bit wonky and the joke is entirely text.
It's also referencing a manga cliche which might narrow the audience that gets it.
Maybe if I had Right lifting up Skeggöld's skirt in the last panel?
Change the angle in the penultimate panel so the skirt flaring up in her face is more obvious?
Maybe I just need a break, idk.
tfw u want to join the discord chat but all the invites are expired
>>82968930
Part of it feels like Skeggold would wear pants because it fits her more tomboyish nature. Was that behavior viewed as specifically perverted in medieval Scandinavia?
>>82969383
Well, we don't know much about the specifics and most of what we DO know is only about men, but cross-dressing from either party was considered grounds for a divorce, on par with wife-beating and such, in the earliest records of Scandinavian laws. In the sagas and myths, men wearing women's clothing is generally associated with (passive) homosexuality and transgenderism and dishonorable behavior (unless you're literally Thor-tier manly man, you're not getting out of it with your honor intact), so it would seem to at least be very out of character for a "proper" Norse lady or gentleman. (there might have been a tradition of mystics who could get away with it, like the Priesthood of Freyr, but they probably weren't a part of polite Norse society)
I'll probably change it to "weirdo" - "pervert" seems a bit too sexual in nature.
Hey guys, You ever got a art-block and You don't know what to draw in the background?
>>82969383
>>82969824
Also yeah, you're completely right about Skeggöld just wearing pants because she likes/is used to wearing pants.
>>82969846
ALL THE TIME. I'd put in the text bubbles before finishing the background though, so you know what you need to fill up.
>>82968457
i feel like it could be boiled down to two panels and used as the intro to something else. but then we'd miss that first panel which was just the bee's knees.at least her pants dont have toes
>>82969846
constantly. i used to know, i swear. funny shit was always going on. little antics.. but somehow i've lost that. I think it's part of trying to think of the background as a real entity in 3d space instead of just drawing tinier people in back and then drawing a floor at whatever angle i feel like at the moment.. my room construction is better but the rooms are so damned empty. i have instructions written down for what to do to make rooms more interesting but I never listen, or i feel lazy and dont wanna keep redrawing wainscoting over and over
>>82969986
That little cut-off joke is from one of the Icelandic sagas, actually, when the villain sends one of his men to see if the hero is home before he attacks.
The hero IS home, and the minion gets a spear to the chest without ever seeing his attacker, so he staggers back to his boss and tells him that while he can't be certain whether the hero was home or not, his spear sure was.
Then he drops dead and the bad guy is like "dayum".I feel like the valkyries are actually more okay with Svipul's magic pants than Skeggöld's regular pants, because magic necromancy pants are witch stuff, whereas ordinary pants are man stuff.
Also, they don't have toes, but IIRC I gave her a pair with built-in socks back when I was thinking up a wardrobe for her.
>>82918939
>>82951319
going to color this brand new page of FATES later on tonight, i have a few things to do first before i can start on it
the joke in this page which you cant see yet without color is that the beer Armadillo drinks just flows through his bullet holes in panel 5 and him saying how much he is ready to die already in panel 6!
how i feel like this page looks before its colored and makes any since: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqnuL3dSW38
how i feel like it looks to people looking at it right now...
its going to be an amazing page guys! it just needs to be colored first! You'll see....
>>82970340
i love that kinda humor
>>82970436
fuck i forgot to explain how because the beer flows through the bullet holes armadillo cant get drunk to drink the pain away so he rather just die as soon as possible by breaking the curse

>>82970513
The sagas have a bunch of "last words" jokes - people commenting on how the spear they'd been stabbed with was super in fashion, noting that there's a lot of fat on the arrow they just pulled out of their heart, stuff like that.
I don't think I'll have a lot of that kind of stuff in Carrion Girls, but maybe some meta-humor about how some guy's last words were super boring and how the listener would spice them up when telling the story, or maybe dying guys pleading with the valkyries to make up something cool.
>>82970660
That happened to me at least 15 times for about 10 years. Eventually, I found an artist who stuck around. You will too.
Unless you're shit.
>>82971298
the dude said he really liked my idea but vanished for no reason.
>>82971338
The overwhelming majority of artists I have worked with since early 2005 did the same exact thing. Most artists you'll find for webcomic collaborative efforts are hideously unreliable.
>>82971403
what confused me the most is I was willing to pay him and did pay him for a small number of character designs (so he didn't just take money and run, I still have those designs), but he still disappeared
>>82971482
Man, if you think that's weird - I once had a guy pay me up front to do a bunch of pages for him before vanishing while I was working on page 2.
Maybe my stuff wasn't good enough for him and he just didn't want to go through the mess of asking for his money back, but it's still really weird.
>>82971715
>>82971788
Yeah. I was actually wondering if he'd died or something until a couple months ago when I came across a webcomic with his name on it.
Now that I think about it, I should probably try to see if I can't contact him and see if I can give him his money back for the stuff I didn't get around to.
>>82971962
I know my guy is still drawing and lingering around, but I have no idea what is going on with his personal life. He might just have decided to focus on his own project and didn't want to turn me down out of anxiety or something.
Kind of annoyed since I really wanted to see my comic done, but such is life I suppose.
>>82972494
I don't wanna oust the dude because he didn't really do me wrong. I'm stillstalking his profiles on art sites to make sure he doesn't flat out steal my idea or something since I'm paranoid, but he was nice to me and provided services for currency rendered.
Do you have a portfolio/website/Tumblr and some way to contact you?
>>82972604or you can just delete your post, that works as well
>>82972705
Dude, search for "bones" in this thread. He is an autistic guy who, like other autists, doesn't know how to draw and doesn't accept criticism, so we just ignore him. He is just trying desperately to get attention, don't reply to him.
>>82972829
Another tripfag to filter, then.
The main problem with /hyw/ isn't just the trolling of certain people, which makes it a toxic place and quite frankly a lame place to be, but the incessant defense of others in light of legit critcism.
I would get into more detail, but as I type even this, all I can think of is "this is just gonna fall on deaf ears" or "they're gonna miss the point" and just adds to the overall sense of apathy in these threads.
>>82974117
hey thanks for bringing up that completely not pointless issue and not in the least bit inciting more offtopic shitposting. it's really really important to me that this issue bothers you, it's not in any way something you need to get over.

like you dont know who i am, lol, well sorry i decided i dont have the time to do it anyway which is why i deleted my offer to finish it for you
and with me you dont ever have to worry about me taking your story, idea, and characters and running away with them or pretending like i made them just because i drew them for you
if you pay me to draw something for you then its your stuff, its your drawing that you paid for, i lay no claim or rights to anything i draw, paint, or animate for people other than credit for drawing it(if i even want credit, ive got paid to do a lot of stuff for a lot of people that i dont want credit for even though its more amazing than anything in my deviantart gallery or my portfolio)
even if it was a million billion dollar project with world wide loved characters i still wouldn't want any owner/maker credit or money off of it other than what i was originally paid for to draw it and credit that i drew it, ya know?
tl;dr: i dont steal crap that isn't mine or pretend to make up characters or stories i didn't
>>82972829
yeah no you can eat shit anon! i love criticism, its autistic idiots with no life like you that keep me from getting it by telling people i dont like critiques and advice which i fucking love! seriously drink bleach and snort ratt poison, its fun, i swear, try it out anon! go for it!

Fuck, i just want to finish this page
http://bug-quest.tumblr.com/post/144677800510/
okay i drew at least a bit of something
i managed to tear myself away from stellaris for at least a few minutes
also, im trying to figure out the order of events (and what events to occur)
>>82978563
i cannot contain how much i love this girl
Warning: Bigboy Spoilers
these're some ideas of things-that-might-happen-depending on whatever
they were supposed to be really rough storyboards but they ended up being fancier than anticipated

Which one, senpai?
this would probably be better, i guess, as it would be less of a repeat of another showdown-on-top-of-desert-cylinder-featuring-Mae-and-a-tough-male-stranger-who-slashes-at-hungry-enemy-with-sharp-implement-before-both-of-them-die-from-their-wounds-while-Mae-is-just-kinda-scared-and-in-the-background
In any case, I like the idea of killing off the characters, but I like the characters too much to want them to die. Vespit is a fun lass
>>82978021
just be patient anon, its going look amazing when its done!!!!
when everything's shaded and i paint the backgrounds out real quick plus add in special effects like the beer flowing out of Armadillos bullet holes it will look like a real awesome page man
I had this quite specific panel frame in mind for a long time
>>82979229
you know full well i can't tell them apart. so far only 'one' girl stands out to me in this comic, but you've said she's not the same one as the other one
Also, an intermission wherin you see loads of random bugs noticing shit happening
A fun side effect would be me getting to use other people's bug suggestions
On that matter, any bug suggestions?
Draw a shitty character design. It'll be a hoot.
In any case, any ideas?
>>82978563is that you, Jim?
>>82979441
camel cricket!
>draw a character design
damn you, i'd love to, but it's too late, and tomorrow i have to work all day
>>82979502
take your time, buddy
>>82979357
There's two main characters. Becky and Stacey
Becky is the one with the messy hair and the cowlick. Stacey is taller than becky and has that weird stepford-ish hair.
>>82979478
Who's that? Is it a bad thing that you think i'm Jim?
>>82979531
okay don't let me forget
>>82979644
iunno, the stupid one! maybe i like them both.
>>82979644
no, not a bad thing.
>>82978563
Anon, the perspective in this classroom scene is really bad, the classrom is small as fuck, the characters are being crushed by their desks, for some reason the classroom only has two rows of desks, one of them goes way too close to the chalkboard, and the other is way back...
You need to research references when drawing complicated scenes, man, and classroom references are easy to find. Trace over one of them if you must, people may judge you but fuck it. Just don't be proud of it, keep in mind you want to be able to draw this by yourself, and keep studying form, anatomy, perspective and shit. Go to /ic/ if you are serious about drawing and if you can take a beating.
>>82979850
man he put a lot of work into that scene last thread, where were you then? i knew something was wrong but i wasn't able to say anything because i'm not as observant
maybe it's just some kind of experimental human centipedesk school. i think we've all seen weirder school experiments
Yeah I know! It's incredibly horri-bad but I think i'm going to have to move on, I've already spent way too much time on this turd of a page. I'll definitely keep this in mind the next time i have to deal with scenes like this
I'll definitely redraw this scene in the somewhat distant future.
Woops! I meant this post>>82980037
For this guy>>82979850

Painted out a quick temporary background and some fur on the jaberwalkie who is still mising its blue tentacles which i will paint on last
i want to paint out a little old western town in panel 9 and 11
I'm designing a guy who's the father of one of the main characters, but I can't decide between making him actually old or a DILF.
wat do

No idea where I was last thread. I have to say though, this sketch looks pretty early still, and since you have a long way to go, I suggest starting again specially because you will keep trying to polish this drawing to mask its mistakes, and I am sure it takes a lot more time and effort to finish a panel doomed to be bad than it would take to scrap it and start anew, drawing with references.
Don't be afraid to throw stuff away and start fresh. Try doing what I do when I am working on a panel but I think I can do better: save this stuff you made on another layer and hide it, start again from scratch. Usually I learn from past mistakes and I draw the new panel quicker, because I am more confident on what I am doing, instead of slaving over a panel I dread to see finished. If you are still having problems with the new panel and doesn't feel confident it's better than the first one, at least you can go back knowing you tried, and you still feel motivated to finish the first drawing not feeling guilty, because even though it doesn't look that good, you know you are doing the best you can do right now.
But anyway, if you have a deadline or something like that, just do what you feel it's going to be faster for you.

the blur brush is the best brush!
>>82981990
You know, you're right. I should just start anew. The current panels are just way too flawed. Man, perspective is so ridiculously hard for me. Maybe I'm just dumb or something.
>>82982354
It just takes practice and time, man.

SCRUBLORD! What happen to you? Are you drunk! Please don't tell me you are drunk!
>>82982354
Don't beat yourself up, man, perspective is pretty hard. Some guys on /ic/ recommend people read a book called Perspective made easy. I haven't read it yet, but maybe you could give it a try?
Proko has some pretty good videos on the fundamentals of drawing on his youtube channel as well.
>>82982354
fuck that, just post it, then work on that the next time. you already take ages to do things. is the site even up yet?
>>82982035
shaded ^^
taking long breaks here are there, thats why its taking so long, i could of had this page done in about an hour start to finish if i wanted to but im in no hurry lol
