Zootopia Thread.
Just watched last night...I never thought of this, but are cgi movies motion-captured? There were such natural body and facial movements and nuances in this film that it was damn near uncanny valley.
>>82789976
Not all of them but ones involving human characters frequently use motion capture. Zootopia didn't as far as I know.
>>82789976
Disney just really gave attention to every fucking details
how many men have broken Nick's heart, /co/?
>>82789976
They probably used a lot of human/animal references for it, but I doubt they used motion capture. Pixar/WDAS rarely uses it.
They're just amazing workers
First for Judy is a nerd.
Does the voice actors help with the lines? Or is that all for the writers? Because to me, Nick and Jason are the same person.
>>82790595
apparently the way that the actors move and generally look while speaking their lines is the way that the animators actually animate them
>>82790595
In any decent production there's a steady communication between the voice actors, director and script writer.
It's not uncommon for the actor to get a better idea of his character's behavior and speech pattern than the scriptwriter. A decent director will allow and endorse (some) improvisation to bring out the passion in the actor.
I did a thing.
Bogo as Coach from Left 4 Dead 2 (with a Nick/Nick for scale). It was the hardest to draw thus far.
Sorry for the atrocious quality, still no scanner yet.
With this one I passed the halfway point. Louis, Bill and Rochelle are the only ones left.
>>82790915
Nice
any idea who would fit the last three?
>>82790955
> Louis => Manchas
> Bill => Kozlov
> Rochelle => Gazelle
It's what I decided so far. I may change my mind on Bill, but to be fair, no character in this movie fit him that well.

I'm not really concerned - it's been a very good run anyway. I'm sure there will be a sequel which will easily top 1 bn.
Then again, as much as we'd like such a good work of art as Zootopia to achieve even bigger success, we must remember how many classics performed relatively poorly (fight club, god father, blade runner).

The very first mention of Zootopia on /co/ dates back to July of 2013. I'm not sure when the official threads started to take shape, although I'm fairly certain the first threads (Both here and on /b/) were "I want to fuck that Rabbit" Over and over. The actual fandom didn't start to take shape until late 2015, Due mostly to the Fanfic writers, more Drawfags, more material to discuss, and the influx of anons who saw the prop-up ads and trailers at the movies. Then the first real Hotpocket attack took place around late January/early February when Fanfiction was exiled and furfaggotry was severely cracked down on. The problem is, the mods have a VERY broad definition of what constitutes furfaggotry. So we went through early 2016 salty about the uncompensated. Things began to look up around March, when the movies were released at long last. That was the golden age for us, and it lasted up until mid-April. Pic related is only one of many threads that met the same fate around that time. This is what drove a rift between the fandom, forcing the embittered and disenfranchised anons off to /trash/ in search of a more lax board. The divide only worsened when Chumpy and Weaver were kicked out of /co/, giving the /trash/anons all the more reason to stay, and leaving us hanging. /co/ has been surviving off of pure discussion of canon material, a few lesser known drawfags, and the occasional speculation, which is an achievement all its own. Most fandoms would have completely Balkanized at this point. Things WILL get better when sequels/TV shows/Vidya/Novels are announced, and I think the Blu-ray will give us sustenance for a looong time. I just want more Zootopia.

If we're on the same page, (I want to fuck the Rabbit) no, it's more like two years old. Like I said, the first mention was 3 years back. That was before we knew ANYTHING about the movie, we didn't even know who Judy Hopps was. I'd say the meme is 1 1/2 - 2 years old.

they would. Talent and dedication doesn't follow rational explanation.
The team poured their souls into their work, which is why it is such a success.
Not only executives believed it will not achieve any measure of success, but creators themselves were riddled by doubt, yet prodded along anyway, doing what they can how they can.
I suppose it's a lesson to us all, don't you agree?

how booked were they when Minions 2 were in the works though?
>>82799450
Absofuckinglutely. Look at the top ten highest grossing list. Including us, 6 of them were direct sequels. The fact that we're sitting at #6, and will likely hit #4, despite being an IP with ZERO marketing whatsoever speaks volumes. Bob Iger probably went to Byron Howard's house after the first two weeks and gave him a hug. Disney wants money, and this is going to be their ATM. Long live Zootopia.

I'm hoping that, since the probability of the script being completely reworked is less likely now, that the story will feel more complete than Z1 did. Don't get me wrong -- I loved the movie as much as the other guy, but you have to admit that the pacing started to fall apart by act three. But with that previous point considered, they really have the potential to build even more on the world they've created, and answer a lot of questions along the way. We're talking almost Star Wars-level worldbuilding potential.

Zootopia seems like something that more easily lends itself to sequels than Frozen, though. Disney isn't huge on sequels, but a Zootopia one is guaranteed money.

Zootopia has only been in theatres for 11 weeks.
As of its 11th week, it made 4.6 million in the domestic box office. Right now approximately 30% of theatres which had carried Zootopia have dropped it in favor of newer releases.
Minions was in theatres for 23 weeks.
As if it's 11th week, it made only 1.2 million in domestic box office, and 75% of theatres that had been carrying it had dropped it for newer releases.
It's not a matter of if, but a matter of when. The millions of difference you see now? that's swiftly diminishing. We will pass Despicable Me 2, we might even pass The Lion King.
But breaking the top 3, that's gonna take some doing. Lucky us, we got a long road ahead.

they had fun, were there by their own volition and didn't do it here?
I thought I'd cringe, but I find myself indifferent
I know this has probably been discussed to hell and back already but what would you prefer in the meantime while Byron and company work on the next movie:
An CGI animated TV show or a series of comics? I for one would prefer a series of comics since a TV show would have shitty animation when compared to the movie and probably not have any of the original voices.
Although I doubt Disney is going to capitalize on Zootopia much outside of shit quality merch and a sequel in five yars
>>82802323
Eh, seen a decent thread every now and then.
>>82802537
animated shorts like Pixar does
>>82801158
I don't think his brians would like having a bullet between them.
>>82802537
Shorts and comics tbqh. A TV show just wouldn't have the quality that the film does and it would really show.

The /trash/ thread has a pastebin too. Comics are around, but Zistopia is the only one I've really followed.
>>82802448
>>82802396
I looked over there earlier today. They've just been switching between saying RP is killing the thread and RPing.

While the film is successful, it isn't quite a property to build on unless it breaks that 1 billion mark.
Daily reminder! :^)

Agreed, wish we'd get more of her in the future. But I doubt in any sequel material she'd get any coverage.
>>82802537
Comics for the same reason as you, but also because I'd like to see the characters in a 2D art style.
>>82802619
>everyone's fw The infighting over in /trash/ balkanizes the fandom even more, leaving only the rpfags over there, while the people who want discussion come back to /co/
>>82802648

>>82802648
Am i the only one who would rather prefer they just stay friends? I mean, the art is cute and all, but would they really fit as a couple?
>>82802648
>implying they didn't cuddle the night before the press conference, and then fucked right after the concert, just like The Fox and the Rabbit said.
>>82802758
>but would they really fit as a couple?
And do they really need to be a couple?
Do we really need to know if they are a couple or not?
>>82802758
I think the reason people like the idea of them being a couple is because they were able to overcome their challenges with the help of each other. The main theme of the movie is about being more than what is expected of you and not letting stereotypes keep you down. They helped each other to accomplish that and formed a very strong bond in the process.
I know they don't have to be more than just friends, but usually when a male and female form that kind of connection it turns romantic, especially in fiction. The fact that Disney subverted that notion is on the one hand commendable but also left many people wanting.
There definitely is a strong base of support for them to be a couple though, and Rich Moore has only been fanning the flames of passion.
>>82802758
I'd be happy either way. I'm fine that nothing happened between them because "male protagonist gets with female protagonist" is the default for movies and it's nice when stuff deviates from the norm.
On the other hand, I do think they play off of each other well enough that they'd be enjoyable to watch as a couple. Plus, there's a lot of things you could do with the story if they go that direction.
I think its possible they have a Platonic love thing going on
But you don't see any inter-species relationships or kids or anything so I reckon a sexual relationship would be forced and out of place, even a full on marriage would be difficult - let alone adoption or something (if they did do an adoption thing I really hope its the very end so we don't need some generic 'looking after the baby' film)
>>82802947
this is pure genius on Disney's part
the "will they, wont they?" bait practically guarantees a Zootopia sequel will make over a billion just from people curious about where they will take their relationship
>>82803013
Stop getting my hopes for a sequel up anon
>>82801891
I mean, why would either of them care?
She literally tried to have one of them kill and eat the other while she watched... leaving Nick with only the hellish memory of her blood in his mouth, having to digest her and seeing what was left of her body.
That's some Hannibal-tier bullshit. Why WOULDN'T you want a devil like that dead?

What the fuck? That's so weirdly specific it's not even funny. Does Wikipedia really have that much stuff on it? Is there one for Fictional Lagomorphs? Canids? Cause I'll go add Nick and Judy there.

One of the directors and Nick's voice actor explicitly think so.
>>82795510
Still be about Judy/Nick for sure, add some new faces, bring back Honey and more Finnick, put in two villians (also Bellweather if any character-jailtime is involved), and Nick's past about Wilde Times and his daddy being a plot point.
First act should take place in Zootopia, second/third acts to intersplice Zootopia, a flying bird city and a little bit of a downtrodden reptile/amphibian swampland.
Find a way to make it work, and it'd be my ideal choice for Zoo2pia.

this goes very well together with this image, highlighting initial reaction of denial, which evokes strong emotional response from the viewer.

No,not really. I a mechanic, not an artist... used to doodle in back in school... but hadn't drawn in years... then, a few weeks ago, I drank a few too many, and next thing I knew, I made these. The more drunk I am, the better I draw....

>>82804537
I want to see Nick waiting and worrying by Judy's beside for days on end, barely sleeping or eating, just hoping that she wakes up- and, when she does, he just tries to play everything off with a joke.
What were Flash's and Priscilla's surnames? IIRC it was Flash Slothmore and Priscilla Tripletoe, although I'm not sure.

who's smuggest fox? Nick, or pic related?
>>82806230

Nick's level of smug cannot be defined
Just got done with a second viewing.
I remember in an older thread some anon saying that Judy straight up killed a dude in reference to the Ram she knocks off of the train, but he shows up again a few minutes later.
(She didn't off someone else did she?)
Nick on the other hand...
He sold Mr.Big a rug, a skunk ass rug.
That would be like me selling a leather jacket made out of someones ass to another person, and that is pretty fucked up.
Soooo, did nick kill someone?
>>82805723
If you enjoy doing it, it's worth trying to find a little time for it when you can. Don't make it a chore, but don't give up on yourself either.
>>82806314
no, it would be like giving someone a sweater made out of another guy's ass hair
I cant imagine where Nick would even get that much ass hair
>>82806314
Could just be gathered fur, like human hair wigs.
>>82806314
I'm sure accidents happened in his line of work. With Judy? Na, no chance.
>>82806314
It was probably a waxing scheme. He waxed the butts is skunks as a cure for skunk stink and sold the strips of fur he sold as rugs to smaller mammals.
>>82806314
it's been discussed and most likely solution is the skunk just shaved / shed a few lose hairs.
remember, arctic shrews are tiny and you only needed a mere handful of hairs to weave a rug.
Same as Bellwhether wears woolen clothes.
>>82806408
that's actually pretty clever and sounds exactly like something he'd do as part of his hustles.
