Rocko was completely a product of its time. It still holds up, in fact it holds up amazingly well, but it's very, very much a 90's cartoon. The humor and premise are very 90's, following the "let's see what we can get away with" trend following the success of Ren and Stimpy. The animation in particular is strikingly period, and I have a hard time believing that it could translate over well using modern animation techniques, and I doubt that they could get enough of the original animation staff over to help.

I could barely see something like this working in the early 2000's, much less the mid 2010's. Furthermore, it's been off the air long enough that the people who grew up with it are too old to care, and the modern younger generations don't even remember it. To top it all off, the show was almost completely episodic with some baseline continuity, and had a proper ending, so it's not like people are looking to tie up loose ends like they are with Hey Arnold or Samurai Jack.

Who the fuck would even watch something like this? For what purpose is it even being made?

They did this kinda often with other series in the last years. Maybe they either don't have any other ideas for new shows or it's just nostalgia or maybe they think the series will creat a hype like back then.
But I don't know any cases for which this has worked (or at least I can't remember). The style usually changes too much when a series is continued by different people 20 years+ later and the masses tend to watch stuff that contains shit that hasn't been done before. It's like someone would start another Simpsons clone nowadays. Hell, I might even like it but it would never get a large fanbase.

Well it looks like Joe Murray is on it so he should stick to his guns completely.

Also these TV movies are looking to be just a one time event for The Splat late next year, first HA's movie was announced, the timing and it being the first to be said just seemed like, you know, a follow up and conclusion. This gives it as more than just something they chose for shows who needed it, these are actually coming together for likely one big event like I said, around November next year.

Could they do Invader Dib? Not sure, seems like that's touch and go, they're doing a comic so it'll probably be a later issue of that, they probably won't touch Zim.

Could they do that cancelled Aaahh! Real Monsters movie? Possibly, since it's one of the main shows on their line up like Rocko and Arnold at times.

I'm just saying, we shouldn't worry, it's going to be weird as hell, but the best we can hope for is the upcoming TV Movie event to include movies that don't feature NewPPG width of outlines.

I have some HDTV recordings from some old site, they're like 720p but it looks only a little better than 480p like the DVDs.

I like how in this capture you can easily see the shitty ball graphics that was supposed to be The Earth under the individual pipes and shit.

Really. The only show that has any business coming back is Zim, and only because it had an unresolved plotline. Arnold never had a plot, but it did have a planned film that would have ended the series, so it deserves what its getting.

NickAnimationStudio has this on their site, could be loose models (as expected) or a decent look at how the series might appear in 1080p (HD for market-now standards)

Joe Murray made the cover art for all the season DVDs except the first one, and the Complete Series cover, plus the inside cover of all the characters ever to be on the show covering it. It all looked good too.

If Murray turns out to be on the project, by all means I'm in.

Remember when Shout Factory said the Rocko DVDs would be the original uncut versions but then they weren't? What happened? DId Nickelodeon refuse to give them the original versions, or were they unable to because they no longer exist, having been memory-holed by Nick Brother?

Real Monsters had a very limited Special Release of The Complete Series in Australia or somewhere like that with special features with promos and bumpers, and something like the Nicksclusive posted moments earlier in the thread. Who cares? Most cartoon in the 90s were shit made for kids and only appealed to kids. At least today you have shows with characters that actually have depth to them like Gravity Falls and Steven Universe were they don't have random shit like "LE WACKY MAYO XDD." Stephen Hillenburg returned to run Spongebob, Dan Povenmire and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh are working on a new show for Disney, Derek Drymon is working at Dreamworks and Mr. Lawerance could voice Filbert but he won't be able to write any episodes because he's writing for Spongebob.

That only leaves Joe Murray himself and he would have to get a new staff and it will fail because they wouldn't capture the same magic Rocko had in the 90's

Jump ahead to 1998 or so and Aaahh! Real Monsters' TV Movie gets turned down for being "too dark"

Fast forward yet again through the years where shows got cancelled due to their shitty scheduling and lack of promotions as it got worse throughout the 2000s and to this day.

Just putting it out there, the UK Nicktoons still shows Rocko without it being a Nostalgia Block on TeenNick. The bumper(s) for Rocko have a simple flash animation head in it, this reminds me flash could be a possibility.

If it's in flash, I simply just won't watch it. Very rarely do flash cartoons look good, Wander Over Yonder is pretty good because it's not done to be lazy, but to be smooth, they add a lot of resources in as well, especially shading and other effects to their models. It looks amazing at times.

If they do flash, it won't be for quality, for sure, it'll be to get it done faster. Flash revivals of cartoons that used to be around/popular are a good sign of JUST wanting the crowd to watch it, not caring about the product and trying to put it out fast.

The new Hey Arnold is said to not be in flash, and there was possibly a confirmation on what studio would be animating it, but I don't recall.

Do you have any other Rocko stuff? Never knew about the comics either, but I vaguely remember seeing the love sick one.

Alright guys I'm fucking ready to start my Rocko collection as a real fucking deal.

Should I buy Animation Cells? What are the downsides and things I need to know first? Is there a good possibility they could be damaged during shipping? Stuff like that and then some. What kind of temperature and conditions do they need to be in? That matters right?

I have a good spot for these things, so they shouldn't get damaged, my point being do I need to know some serious downsides to buying them?

Well I wouldn't say I'm perfect living, but some of these cells are 25-100 dollars. I've seen a good few that are 50. That's not that bad for a lot of people.

My limit would likely be at 100 anyway. I have a good lot of free spending money, I'd like to own at least one original cel from the making of the show, ESPECIALLY considering there are cheap finds. . which makes me question if it's good or not, but I'm sure it is.

Rocko probably wouldn't be the only show, but it's a start. I have my whole life, however long that may be, to buy these things and just think how neat they are, I'm not going to buy every single one the second I get enough money for them.

I feel like one would be cool enough, maybe a 2nd down the road.

Well if you're in that state why not something from Ed, Edd, n' Eddy? While Rocko paved the way for a lot of shows, and gave a lot of people a boost, EEE has a golden status along with Dexter's Lab, Cow and Chicken, among others.

I feel like Nick never had a Golden Status of cartoons, pre-movie spongebob was radical, but that was one show mixed with some decent watches.

Most people will pay at least 10 bucks for a poster for some kind of wall art, but usually around 50 dollars for art from ikea or something isn't uncommon even for poor students.

Unless they have some Art house craze, this shit is important in history sometimes, maybe less than an original Looney Tunes or actual Golden Age cartoon, but important nonetheless, at least if you're talking about a quality program like Rocko.

By interior decoration all I mean is something you put up inside that you enjoy looking at.
It could be photos of your friends on the wall like girls do in dorms, or a kitten motivational poster, whatever the fuck you want.
So yes, people do buy show memorabilia artwork as decoration because they enjoy seeing it.
