So I've been thinking.

CN's been promoting the hell out of this In Too Deep event, and is finally launching some decent merchandise lines for SU. As you all probably know, SU was recently broken up from 3 seasons into 5, which was announced along with a similar announcement for Uncle Grandpa. Just days later, it was announced that Uncle Grandpa was cancelled.

What I'm getting at is that I think this is a make or break moment for SU, in CN's eyes. With all of that promotion, they're probably looking for better ratings, and they're probably looking for good merchandise sales too. Basically, I think that the upcoming ratings may determine if more seasons get ordered or not, and which when combined with merchandise sales may determine CN's entire startegy regarding SU. Sure it's been getting a lot of online buzz, just look at how many views the Dailymotion uploads of the last two episodes have, but that's not necesarilly indicadive of actual TV ratings.

This could actually be pretty important, so does anyone know when does CN releases its ratings for premier nights?

How, you may ask? Think about it. When Cluster began forming, Steven's gemstone started to act up, and after fainting he established a telepathic link with the Cluster, while Peridot was unaffected. So what if Cluster was made to communicate with, and receive orders from Diamond? It would explain why Steven was able to talk to it.

A friend attributed it to the fact that Rose had a sort of "connection to living things", but like in Steven's case it was a voluntary action, not something to get dragged into. The Cluster attempted to establish contact with someone, and Steven got pulled in because Rose was Pink Diamond, and he inherited her powers and gemstone.

There was a lot of lead up to the cluster and Malachite and everything was resolved too quickly and super conveniently

The direction of the cluster episode was great though, the blinking floor of the drill and the hands was especially good

Actually, I think the piece of information revealed in this episode that hints towards that more is the fact that gem shards are alive.

Think about it, we've just learned that the pieces of shattered gems themselves have thoughts and personalities, rudimentary though they may be. So what if there was a gem that was big and powerful enough that a shard from it could constitute a fully fledged gem in its own right? Like a diamond, say.

We know that Rose is a Quartz, but she's also been referred to as "one of a kind", and Quartzes don't strike me as one-offs but rather mass produced soldiers, like elite versions of the Rubys. And Rose/Steven has all of these powers that it makes no sense for a soldier-caste gem to have (even if you subscribe to the "battle medic" theory, why the ability to grow plants? and why psychic powers?).

There would have been no point in dragging put the cluster's resolution. Ultimately, th cluster was just a plot device to drive peridots redemption. Once she new as redeemed, there was no need for the cluster. That said, I doubt thats the last time we'll be seeing it.

As for malachite, it needed to be resolved so that lapis could come into play and drive the story forward. Since they are still at the barn, it transitions nicely.
Realistically this was the best way for it to be resolved. Obviously the cluster couldn't form cause then everyone would die, nor could the drill actually kill the cluster. So while it may have seemed rush, it was for the best.

I get that the CG are now considerably less hostile towards Lapis, but that doesn't excuse the fact that they were so nonchalant about keeping and using her as the mirror for presumably thousands of years. Smoking gives the impression of someone who lives a rough life and uses them to calm nerves, or in older settings, it gives the impression of class and refinement. Plus, it gives the characters something to hold. I don't smoke myself and I don't like smokers, but it's hard not to see the appeal of drawing it.

Let's look at the facts about smoking: it's pretty cheap, most people say it helps calm them down or keep them steady, it's addictive, and it's got a lot of health risks associated. So when you show a character smoking, it implies that a) they're not too high on cash, b) they're regularly in situations where they need a drug to calm them down, c) they're probably dealing with the addiction in some manner, and d) they don't care much about their own long-term health. It conveys a lot of hints about their personality and struggles - when you draw a character smoking, it's usually a sign that the character has Seen Some Shit.

Note that this has nothing to do with actual smokers, who smell like crap.

I'm certain that the cluster hasn't been fully resolved. I can't imagine that bubbling something that's basically the core of the earth will hold it back if it really, really wants to do something. That being said, the cluster will probably form to fight alongside Steven, probably if there's an actual full-scale invasion presented by Yellow Diamond.

On the flip side, I do think that Malachite was dealt with a bit quickly. Chances are this is the last time we'll see that particular Malachite, but I do feel a bit... cheated, idk. I just want to see Lapis and Peridot interacting, so I don't mind. episodes together were 8/10, good shit.

It's still unclear what happened to Pink Diamond or what Rose's relationship to her was. Most people are pretty sure Rose wasn't Pink Diamond (too short, too weak, rebellion started off with just her and her butler, doesn't look like the other Diamonds but looks about right for a Quartz). Where she was in rank is a rough call because we still haven't seen if she was anywhere.
