Nonsense, that goes to the likes of Joker and Norman Obsorn.
Norman has thus far retroactively seduced and impregnated the hero's girlfriend, killed her, become a head figure of various superpower operations and a clumsy dark Illuminati group all while demonstrating self-destructive, psychotic tendencies that should have resulted in his immediate dismissal.

Starlin will give Thanos a thorough rubbing off but in all cases always goes to great lengths to detail the particulars of the process, we are given no explanation for Norman's meteoric rise we're just expected to accept it. He had influence over Emma Frost and Doom just because, he had authority over the fucking Sentry just because. Norman is not that clever, he's not that capable, he had nothing new or interesting to bring to the table and unapologetically was given the trite villain motive of "I'll save the world by destroying it!" and we're just told to swallow this because Marvel wanted their own Joker/Lex hybrid figure with none of the build up or finesse. Worst of all the pay off for all of this was nonexistent.
Starlin's Thanos at the very least results in some sort of substantial conclusion. Things are learned about the caliber of the powers that be, the villain, the heroes and the world.

If you put the material of Thanos peak arc beside Norman's in front of someone who absolutely detests superhero comics or comics in general even they would agree IG is at the very least less shit writing than Dark Reign.

As I revisit this for the first time in some years, I find myself having a really hard time imagining Josh "I sound like a Midwestern serial killer" Brolin adequately delivering, well, any of these lines really. Dude's got a deep voice and all but he lacks the sinister, half-crazed eloquence that, to me, defines Thanos.

Well for one thing, they aren't really setting up the Elders of the Universe, at least not very quickly, so it's doubtful that's the route they'll go with. They've already positioned 4 of the 6 Stones:

One on Earth, in the protection of the Avengers
One on Asgard, in the protection of Impostor King Loki and the Einherjar warriors
One on Knowhere, in the protection of Taneleer Tivan, the Collector
One on Xandar, in the protection of Nova Prime Irani Rael, and the Nova Corps

Now the biggest question I have, and I have a sneaking suspicion it will get answered in Thor: Ragnarok, is this: Is Loki still working with Thanos, is he working toward his own goals with no regard for the things Thanos threatened him with, or is he actively working against Thanos? We pretty much know he was behind the moving of the Aether to Knowhere, as Sif and Volstagg wouldn't have done that without the permission of "Odin", but is he putting it there for Thanos, or in an attempt to stop him?

He kind of tarted out as one, if you think about his relationship to his father and his stories on Titan. That's all very New Gods, to the point that when Kirby brought in the "Eternals" I think Starlin retconned his Titans on Earth who gave rise to the population on Titan to be a colony of Eternals.

However, the whole "romance with Death" thing doesn't strike me as very Kirby. That's Starlin's personal touch.

Started as a rip off Darkseid, then it became something else entirely. Starlin Thanos is almost a scientist, predator of knowledge and godlike power, thatregularly fails to keep, with a troubled romance with Death. He also tried to be a force for good for a little 'time, before dying in Annihilation. The perfect ending for Thanos. Then they brought back him to life and everything went apeshit.

Darkseid is a more royal figure with completely different backgrounds and motivation.

Anyways, Thanos > Darkseid.

Aesthetically it is as if at some point they have inflated him as Darkseid and have boosted his power. The similarities with Darkseid are mostly centralized his power and role, but more a thing of his past background and the aesthetic design.

It's kinda funny how obviously Starlin wanted the Titans to be Marvel's answer to the New Gods. And then Kirby comes back and makes the Eternals and the Titans get retconned into being an Eternal offshoot (which they are in a meta sort of way).
