The one thing that bothers me about this is we don't really see her stuffing her face on a regular basis.
She doesn't eat enough to be as fat as she is; she should be ~170lbs tops. A friend of mine is like 5'4" and snacks almost constantly, but she's only like ~165lbs. Meanwhile faith over here is well over the 200lbs range. She's just fat for the sake of being a fat protagonist, without actually living the land-whale lifestyle of perpetual snacks and excessive meal proportions.

You can't start censoring things because people with weak will may be influenced by the wrong interpretation. We start down that road we all know where it ends. Comics code was a nightmare for writing.

Ultimately much like how content with smoking, promiscuity, alcoholism and violent tendencies range in their use of making characters look badass to just an ass it's always a matter of context. And we have a situation here where the matter isn't entirely glossed over or idealized. In Harbinger Faith is clearly illustrated to live a negatively pampered lifestyle that makes her susceptible to harmful behavior despite her optimism and eagerness to help. There's no two ways about how it's shown and why, unless you choose to see it otherwise for whatever reason.

All the same there's evidence she's not entirely blissfully ignorant just stubbornly content with how the things that brought her comfort since young keep her from buckling under the overwhelming negatives building up as she gets older.
Her little story is about staying positive though, not being daft. She doesn't let up on sending signals to Archer and she has her little daydreams but she just as well acknowledges Archer's clear reluctance, which she maturely takes in stride instead of crying over, and recognizes the fantasies while momentarily useful for coping are completely useless to anyone else.

In the end Harbinger and its spinoffs mostly seem a story encouraging people who feel useless in society, not necessarily socially oppressed, to recognize they can still be decent if not heroic individuals and participate to the whole despite shortcomings. It's not about avoiding facts or condoning being a druggie, overgrown baby or impotent paraplegic. It's saying "well, you're flawed but if you (magically) have the opportunity to do any good make good use of it". Most of the antagonists are people with ample opportunity who abuse it.

It's amusing that it looks like a typical pandering superhero comic, except that it panders to overweight middle-aged Twilight-obsessed women rather than overweight middle-aged Superman-obsessed men. I have to wonder how well that actually works out; did the apparently target audience care about it, or did they pick up some sort of perceived insult? They tend to like being insulted.

Then again, that might not be the target audience at all. Perhaps the target audience are the landwhale SJW supporters, rather than the landwhale SJWs themselves. That would be a rather ironic twist.

I've had friends and a sibling who struggled with the physical and psychological impact of being overweight, I have never once endorsed obesity but I'm not going to lash out at Faith or stories like Faith when upon analysis and not just a glance it's about the character's behavior not their body.

I also find this a curious disdain given Butterball was not met with such derision.
In fact as I recall /co/ loved the scene where he recognizes how completely ineffectual he is as hero but is told not to give up on trying to be heroic.

Different people have different metabolisms, and so one person eating more and gaining less weight isn't that impossible. This is especially true if you are comparing a teenager (who might be growing in other areas) to an adult who has been overeating for 10+ years. Even if they are both gaining the same weight with their diets, the overweight adult is going to look fat while the skinny teenager is probably just gaining height or muscle mass.

It also shouldn't be difficult to understand that, unless the diet and calorie burning are drastically different, weight will remain roughly the same over time. If superhero Fatsy McGee doesn't burn any extra calories due to superhero logistics, then a standard diet plus the occasional sundae is going to keep her are roughly the same weight as she currently is at. If you understood nutrition, then you would realize that somebody doesn't need to each whole turkeys or tubs of ice cream to remain at a 200+ lb weight class. Maybe to get there, but once there, the standard 2000 calorie diet is going to keep them there unless something changes.
