The McFarlane design looks great when it's drawn by someone else. The insanely angular eyes, the long ass head, the complete lack of a nose, the eyes being too close together, the big chiseled jaw; there's so many things that seem wrong with it. I think black looks better, but I like the idea of Spider-Man designing his costume so it emphasizes the whole "friendly neighborhood Spider-Man" thing, like he wants to appear non-threatening, and the blue helps that. If there's a kid in a burning building, the kid might freak out seeing a red and black guy coming towards him, but red and blue looks friendlier, so they'd be more likely to trust him instead of fear him. That's also part of why I like his suit to have big, rounded eyes instead of small, narrow ones.

Ultimate Spider-Man and ASM2 did it perfectly.

Lately I've been stuck on this idea for an alt universe.

Spider-man gets his powers the same way, and becomes a vigilante but no costume. One day he stumbles into the Tinkerer hideout and steals a suit. He then makes that into the spider suit.

After that he starts becoming more famous. The Tinkerer see's this and becomes angry someone is whering his suit. So he makes a better suit and gives it to a young thug who's been successfully eluding Spider-man and calls himself the prowler. In the end Spider-man wins might have turned prowler good.

In the end this sparks a chain of events where the Tinkerer keeps making better and better suits for Spider-man villains. All because he has a hate boner for Spider-man thinking he stole his best suit, not realizing Spider-man has actual powers.

Yeah, agreed. I admit I had to be reminded of him though. Still, he was my first Spidey and did a damn good job at it. I prefer Barnes older voice now (EoT), than the 90s cartoon though. They all make the definitive trinity for Spidey. Josh for young Spidey, Romano for the Spidey thats been at it.for 10-20 years, and Barnes or old voice KKeaton for Last Stand Spidey. I just want to jump in and say that Ben Reilly has the best taste. Scarlet was meant as a one off costume for him and it ends up defining him and his style. But when he ditches the duds to go all Spectacular on us, his tweaks to the classic costume just knock it outta the park. The half boots and fingers were eye catching and added a color break, they got rid of the red stripe down the arms in favor of for upper body red and gave us a big ass wrap-around spider that looked unique to any other spider logo that came before it. Plus those external webshooters are just sexy as fuck.

The classic is the best, especially when drawn by Romita Sr. Something about it just clicks. But other than that, I love Ben Reilly Scarlet Spider, the black suit, Last Stand, or Alex Ross' movie concept costumes that are really close. Alex Ross' concept was so good, Assassin Spidey and Superior's second costumes are obviously based on it.

Really though, there's no Spider-Man outfit I hate. Each is usually really good.

I think Bagley might be Spider-Manned out. He actually wanted to stop drawing Spidey when Ultimate kicked off, but Bendis was able to talk him into it. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't want to draw Spider-Man any more.

How could someone many times more flexible and agile than a human, with super strength to boot, ever be restricted by cloth? Even if he did, it would be negligible. The same thing with spider armor mk 1, he has super stregnth speed and reflexes, it shouldnt make a difference.

I liked the stripes. It was enough to have it be faithful yet still add just a little for it to be unique. If there's any reason why they're there beyond that, I suspect it's what keeps his suit on/allows him to take it off. Like elastic bands or some kind of strip that keeps the suit in place in relation to all his movement.

I have to be the only person who is not bothered by the stripes in the least. I just hope they give Holland an actual suit to wear this time instead of a motion capture suit.
