Homestuck 2.0 was officially announced today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxHnKT_2u64

What do you think the "secret project" is? Do you think Hussie is going to mostly work on Homestuck 2.0 or is he going to let other people do it while he moves on to something new?
>>
>>82623403
Careful there, man. Jimmy the janitor hasn't had his didie changed yet.
>>
Did I miss a thread?

The secret project is a TV show, we already knew that and this reveal just confirms it.
>>
>>82623403
It's the TV show.
>>
>>82623468
>>82623474
I think a TV show is still too ambitious at this stage. If it's anything like that, it'll probably just be a web series like CAD had.
>>
>>82623486
It's people Dante Basco knew, I don't think he knows many web series people
>>
does hussie even want to do this
>>
>>82623403
Are we allowed to keep talking about the fucking comic now instead of the Freedom thread?

Also did the liveblogger hit cascade yet or what?
>>
>>82623403
he held up his hand wrong, that motion can often mean "stop" or "back up" even if a horse isn't explicitly trained to learn that. people just naturally use their hands like that and horses pick up on it.
>>
>>82623498
no

>>82623550
yes
>>
>>82623498
Hussie is gone.
>>
>>82623498
I think he wants to hang out at stables and pet horses
>>
>>82623468
>>82623474
saying its a tv show doesnt even come close to telling us what we should expect. that could mean anything
>>
>>82623590
Yeah even a TV show could just be, like, a documentary about the fandom or something.
>>
>>82623611
Please no.
We were an awful fandom in our prime and nobody deserves to go through that.
>>
My video is going to be a montage of Hussie making a series of bad decisions that lead to Act 7 being what it is, set to Eternity's Shylock. The Kickstarter and its constant failures and the scandal will be focal.
>>
>>82623498
He's going to make a cartoon and be an even bigger hack than Alex Hirsch.
>>
>>82623579
Maybe that's why he's doing all this. It's not for the money, it's for the horses.
>>
>>82623664
Fuck off with that, it was no worse then any other medium to large fandom and the sort of shit that the fandom created was actually fucking astounding in its scope
If you want an awful fandom look at fucking bronys and bronycon
>>
>>82623611
its just sex tapes of hussie fucking endless numbers of chubby jade cosplayers
>>
>>82623611
Hussie's not going to TV producers for something that lame.
>>
>>82623729
show me a hot chubby jade cosplayer
>>
>>82623705
>Alex Hirsch makes the homestuck cartoon
>>
>>82623403
This video is so fucking painful I can't actually watch it
Whats the gist?
>>
>>82623759
i didnt say they were hot
>>
>>82623731
but it would be fine for a web series
I wouldn't put it past Dante Basco to do something fandom-oriented
>>
Assuming Homestuck 2.0 has the potential to not completely suck, what do you want to see?
>>
Hopefully the secret project is a suicide cult.
>>
>>82623762
TV couldn't handle that level of hackness.
>>
>>82623769
Hussie tries to pet a horse, that's all you need to know
>>
>>82623789
That already happened anon. It was called act 6.
>>
>>82623780
i just want hiveswap. undertale has proven to me that a homestuck game can not only work but be excellent. if hiveswap is close to as good as undertale ill be a happy little man
>>
>>82623498
What Hussie?
>>
>>82623830
Part of the reason Undertale worked is because it didn't have baggage

The world and characters were all made around the game. There was no overaching "canon" to worry about. A Homestuck game cannot have that luxury.
>>
>>82623780
Deepest lore.

>>
>>82623780
Cute character interactions and Hussie actually talking to his audience once or twice
>>
>>82623830
It's a point and click adventure game, and if you think that's the bad part then you are an example of what ruined the fandom.

Time to leave this board forever.
>>
>>82624131
It's hard to believe that Cascade is shorter than Collide. It feels so much longer, especially when it first dropped.
>>
>>82624166
Just take screencaps as you watch it and do that whole recap thing
>>
>>82624022
To get the genuine experience you have to wait several hours for Hussie to find a hosting solution that will work.
>>
>>82624166
Are you going to take some screen caps throughout the flash and post them along with your thoughts or are you going to make one big post after you finish?
>>
why Sylph as a class?
>>
>>82624202

>>82624022
To explain: when Cascade came out, the hype was so massive it DDOSed MSPA's servers. It also DDOSed Newgrounds, where the animation was being hosted. Andrew decided to upload it to MegaUpload (remember MegaUpload?)... and that went down too. I stayed up waiting for it, and I didn't get to see it until the next day. I have never, never, never been as hyped for anything before or since.

That was a good day
>>
>>82624259
I'm not sure of the exact question here.
>>
>>82624262
I was hyped for Act 7.
;_;
>>
>>82624262
>meanwhile collide and act 7 produced absolutely no server load
sad
>>
>>82624262
The thing you've got to remember about Cascade is that there was a two month hiatus beforehand. At the time, that was so unheard of that it drove the entire fanbase insane. Completely insane.

If only we had known.
>>
>>82624185
i think thats cos collide is a youtube video so you can hop around and navigate it more easily. makes it seem smaller in comparison. also its a lot less dense than cascade - a lot of time is filled with jokes and fun stuff whereas cascade is a fucking BLOCK of plot
>>
>>82624259
Why the fuck not?
>>
>>82624320
I mean even if they did, it's not like YouTube is gonna go down
>>
>>82624309
Sylph is a class in Homestuck
but Sylph isn't a class, it's a type of fairy
Sylph being a class would be liking calling dog a class
>>
>>82624185
Nothing fucking happens in Collide until the last five minutes or so

Everything before that is just sprites banging against each other and drawings that are meant to represent the sprites banging on each other

Cascade has a massive amount of shit going down
>>
>>82624372
in 1st edition D&D "elf" and "halfling" are classes
>>
>>82624372
Is heir a class? Is prince? Is captchalogue a word? There are like 600 other words you could make this argument about. Hussie likes to use weird names for things.
>>
Post your epilogue ideas!

>all the disgusting cis hetero shit pairings happen in the dreambubbles
>the kids attend Jack Noir and Ms Paint's marriage
>Dave finally confesses his love to Karkat and they kiss each other
>Jade, Jake, Dirk and Jane play soccer
>Terezi sees a light in the end and the epilogue ends
>>
>>82624372
This is pedantic as all hell. When has the classpect system ever been orthodox?
>>
>>82624406
Heir or Prince still make more since, since they're a type of person. Sylph isn't.
>>
>>82624372
Or elf a class? Or vampire a class?

A class can be whatever you want. If it really bugs you, think of it as 'someone who acts like a sylph'
>>
>>82624416
>and they kiss each other
You're aiming too low. Graphic sex scene or go home.

>>
>>82624523
The only cool thing about Collide is Fraymotifs.

Collide is objectively the worst flash because Spades Slick dies.

>10 minutes doing close ups on people and showing stuff that already happened

>>
>>82624570
>>82624616
Hussie's use of the flashes early on in homestuck felt very calculated, like he was maximizing plot progression as much as possible in a short animation. WV: Ascend is like that too.
>>
Who else is excited for Nepetaquest 2018?
>>
>>82624523
It would be but the art was distractingly cartoony and aside from fraymotifs and the Felt battle the fights dragged on too long with not much visual appeal and the enemies, who were built up as having all sorts of invincibility and had demonstrated much more menace in the past, felt incredibly depowered.

Also Slick died. Fuck that.
>>
>>82624622
Cascade, off the top of my head:
>Jade goes god-tier
>WQ, WK, and AR die
>WV gets impaled
>We see how Jack got to the trolls' session
>Slick shoots Snowman
>The Tumor CREATES the Green Sun instead of destroying it
>Dave and Rose go god-tier
>First face-to-face in-the-flesh meeting between kids and trolls
>Bunny subplot ends

Collide:
>All the villains die, except LE, who gets no resolution whatsoever, the Felt, who just get beat up or hogtied, and DD, who is forgotten about
>Spades Slick (who is not a villain, as he did nothing wrong) also dies
>Dirk dies, but this has no weight since we know he'll be instantly revived (and he is)
>Blatant Undertale references
>Things go just according to keikaku

The dreambubbles from the multi session pile up that is Homestuck have been destroyed.

Everyone involved in the resolution of the Lord English fight is kill, except maybe Aradia absconded ahead of time to get Sollux to safety then watch the finale.

Jake and friends reconciliation.

Story time format (like the stuff in the Calliope bubble) about what happened in the final battle against Lord English, including how the masterpiece fits in.

Some simple stuff like the four beta kids actually hanging out in person together, and Kanaya and Karkat finding a good home for the matriorb.

Show if Terezi and the sprites are in the new universe.

Whilst Jake himself didn't have much influence, and was primarily used as a narrative prop by other characters, there was an interesting concept developed through him. Namely, that some people just aren't that good around people, they flourish when left to their own devices even if those surrounding them have the best of intentions -though in this case they didn't.

However, there was no closure on this storyline given that in the finale we just see Jake seemingly reconciled with Dirk, who was one of the primary issues he had in dealing with others. Just another disappointment to add to the pile.

>>82625302
Most of the Dancestors, with Kankri, Cronus, and probably Rufioh at the very bottom. Vriska and Gamzee are pretty garbage and Feferi was certainly worse than Tavros, even if her stint was shorter. I personally rank Nepeta below Tavros but that's just me. Jake singlehandedly ruined the appeal of the Alpha session. Davepeta and Jasprosesprite^2 are abominations against man and God. Hussie's self insert also got really obnoxious.

Basically, a ton of characters. Incidentally, Calliope's the co-best at her worst.

Even if he was thinking that, it ended up being a self-fulfilling prophecy because he overloaded himself with bullshit he couldn't handle

If he had maintained the quality and volume of updates he'd been doing beforehand, Homestuck would have maintained it's popularity and he could have announced the kickstarter when the ending was in sight, instead of when he did.

The kickstarter itself didn't delay HS, it was The Odd Gentlemen fiasco where he handed responsibility to them and they did fucking nothing and ignored all communication. He had to stop the comic so he could move house and go live on their front doorstep so he could get an answer about the game progress.

If he'd finished Homestuck, then by all accounts he would have produced the game himself, in-basement, with help from his friends, not a company who saw 2.4 million reasons to try and fleece an inexperienced idealistic creator.

One thing I appreciate about Homestuck's art (I was gonna say early Homestuck art, but I recall this shit in even Act 6, the first thing that comes to mind is Caliborn's screen tower) is the awesome blend of taking random real life photos from google images and mixing it in an interesting way with Hussie's drawings. There's just something I liked about it, even the small things like seeing Dave and Bro fight with the katanas that were half photo and half drawing. It was just such a cool aesthetic. I don't know where I was going with this, it was longwinded and rambling but I really liked it. Hussie took some picture of probably like, a construction site or abandoned factory and made it into a scene on a outlandish steel/lava planet.

Jack should have stayed the main villain. Yeah, Lord English was cool, his entrance was great and all, but we didn't really seem him do shit aside from kill off some joke characters, which let's be fair, is something that we should be grateful of.

Jack, instead we saw grow as a villain. We saw his reasons, his uprising, all his versions, his personality, and most important of all, his misdeeds. He just fucking slaughtered millions, and we saw his ascension into a more powerful entity, up to the point of blowing up the fucking universe. Don't listen to these people. Act 6 is slower paced. There is some understandable criticism of act 6, but it is good. I think the most important thing to understand with this comic is that it is constantly re-evaluating what it is. It changes tone and priorities somewhat and a lot of people felt offended by that, but if you can get over that I think you'll find the same overall level of quality.

His writing style also reflected that talent, he'd take user submitted suggestions and work them into the story in really creative and funny ways. I'll be so sad if we never see more of that unique type of artstyle, I genuinely missed his usual style as Act 6 drew closer to its conclusion.

She's an artist/writer with a particular sense of style, she's kind of cocky and impatient, she's a nerd about story telling and lore, she loves magic and gameplaying, and she's a cute sort of faux-British.

And there's just a way about her that I enjoy. Like, I feel like if I list her positive traits people will just hold that against her as a character, but there's something to be said for someone who's polite and charming and friendly. And I enjoyed seeing how she faced her tragedies of fear and loneliness.

The best way I can sum it up is Andrew Hussie was good at scavenging. Whether it was seemingly useless images and incorporating them into a whole, cohesive pictures, or taking what seemed to be insignificant plot points or fan ideas and spinning them into something much bigger.

Like, seriously, look at that map in the sky, and the glowing compasses scattered about. You'd think those would look jarring, but it manages to work seamlessly in the landscape. I mean, look at that water. I hadn't even realized it was a photo with ripples drawn in to account for the rock formations, it just worked so well.

I guess it's why I disliked a lot of the super polished art team contributions over the years, especially near the end. They were certainly great, and no insult to the talented artists, but it just didn't seem like MSPaint Adventures.

Jack should have never entered to trolls' session.

The reason they couldn't claim the Ultimate Reward should have literally been because they didn't play the game properly and didn't grow up. They should have just trolled the humans and slightly influence events in their session, but nothing big other than creating Bec Noir. They would be mostly advisors, who teach the kids through their mistakes.

Hivebent would be shorter with no connection to the intermission other than the implication that the exiles are the MC and Snowman.

The humans play the game right (maybe Rose still goes Grimdark with Scratch but John fixes her), Jack takes the role of the Black King. No Scratch, no Act 6, no bubbles, no Cherubs, no more meta bullshit, they just beat Jack and then create the universe.

Well given the way Jane's introduction is setup to mirror Johns, it's likely to follow the same sort of drawn out build up. Given the immensity of the events preceding it, it's an understandable hype killer if you're heavily invested in the kid's story. In addition, there's obviously going to be 4 new characters introduced in a story with way to many characters as is.

From a storytelling perspective, yes, but that's why I said literally. My thoughts exactly, and now you've brought it up I feel that I have to go back and pay closer attention to some of the art as I never noticed things like the water in that image, it's really fitting when contrasted with the simple colours on the focus on the image, good shit.

I like the term scavenger to describe Hussie too, no doubt the guy has his own fantastic ideas, but some people work better bouncing off of ideas from independent sources. I feel that you should always play to your strengths in life, no matter what activity you're doing unless it's working on your weaknesses, but hey that's a given and I feel Hussie perhaps forgot this as time went on. Why? Who knows, but some of the decisions made later into Act 6 really stand out as questionable to me and I don't think he'd have gone through with them if he'd still used a similar information collection strategy as he did with Problem Sleuth and early on in Homestuck, especially given the large pauses that started popping up.

I dunno.

He clearly had issues throughout the story but I also think that they did the opposite of what they did with all the other kids (except Jade); instead of having him being a kid and misunderstanding things, they had the implications be absolutely right so he could be more of a woobie, reject his character arc, heroism, and trying to save the universe and just sort of deflate as a character.

So you spend so much of the comic waiting for the four kids to come together as a team and be awesome hero friends and it literally never gives it to you.

You have to ascend first in order to descend to the planet. It's a standard game construct that seems worthless to the first player but supports the next entry, because John's second gate leads into Rose's first gate. The player has to be high and build their house further up in order to support the entry of another player onto their planet (Rose never built up and John would have died if he weren't PCHOOOing around with the rocket pack)

Yeah, I can't really get into Hussie's mindset on this matter either, no one other than the man himself can tell us. Maybe the act of taking music contributions, lead to more people wanting to contribute, which lead to an oversaturation of different styles that didn't truly capture Homestuck's visual identity? Maybe he felt that as Homestuck grew in popularity, he needed to up the production value on things like flashes? Or it could just be he was getting tired of the burden of doing all the art. I quite enjoyed it too, I thought the trolls could be really interesting as they were rather striking aesthetically and whilst rather human in a lot of ways, there were some drastic alien differences that I really wanted to see explored. The problem lied in having 12 new characters introduced in the same fashion as the actual main characters and then having no clear framework for main character trolls and supporting cast trolls. The trolls as a whole could have been infinitely more interesting had this been done correctly, why it wasn't done is beyond me. There was so much clear, wasted potential evident during the damn intermission it was insane. Then it dragged on for a bit too long and whilst you eventually found some of the trolls you enjoyed, the focus would shift onto ones you didn't, doing things that were either stupid or irrelevant to the plot, sometimes both.

Hivebent on a post-Act 7 re-read is an amazing exercise in self-flagellation. I discovered that the trolls I hated the most were the ones Hussie kept around after Cascade as "main characters." Karkat and Terezi become intolerable because you know they don't amount to a damn thing (Karkat's memos are the worst part of the comic once this becomes apparent). Vriska is always the worst, and Tavros is no better because he's the smoke to her fire. Old Gamzee is just fucking depressing to see again. Indeed, the most enjoyable trolls at this point are the ones who see little action after Act 5: Aradia, Eridan, Equius, and Sollux are the most enjoyable.

Yeah, it's kind of weird that he was the only one to be on a fuckhuge spire of rock in the outer atmosphere. Dave had a tower and Jade had a tower on top of a volcano, Rose's house was kind of on a raised island above the ocean but not really that tall.

I guess it could be symbolic of Breath that he is up in the air, whilst Dave spends his Time running on clockwork mechanisms, Rose has her prismatic white sands and multicoloured Light, and I guess Jade's planet is cold and dormant like the vacuum of Space and volcanoes need to be heated up with a big bang to make the new universe.

Yeah, when I inevitably go for a re-read that's going to be one of the toughest parts to face, the notion that these two characters who I regarded as full of potential on my first read, never amount to anything even resembling payoff. Again, for me the most taxing part of the whole troll crew was how poorly clear supporting characters were used in regards to the main trolls, they could have done so much more than just been cheap jokes, with the same if not less screen time. The fact the trolls barely seem to flinch when so many of their numbers get flat out murdered was one of the first big warning signs to me that something was a bit off with the trolls moving forwards, but again those who died were primarily supporting characters who never really got to support anyone.

Then there's outliers like Vriska who just becomes this all encompassing cancer on the story when she had a perfectly fine character arc and ending. At least Aradia got to stick about and actually do things relevant to the plot without sacrificing much in exchange, she was a riot in the dreambubbles, as was Sollux who was always solid.

How he actually turns out in the epilogue, we will see. Plus, a lot of his more murderous actions came about due to Gamzee's machinations empowering his normal inclinations to go way too far.

I still think that the trolls should have remained outside of the story of Homestuck. If he only had time/patience/energy/material to make four of the trolls work, they should have been the Alpha Kids. Have the early pesterlogs but don't have the kids and trolls meet up. Don't spend a three year timeskip with the cast split between the meteor and the battleship doing fuck all. Just get the kids together, scratch, pose as a team, ONWARDS TO THE NEW UNIVERSE, introduce the Alphas, pose as a greater team, fuck Jack's shit up together, boss battle boss battle win the game.

Given there's any number of ways things could have been done differently to favour the original kid's stories better, it seems rather pointless given the popularity of the trolls. Once they made the popularity of the comic take off they were always there to stay, so it seems more useful to not exclude them, but think about how they could have been utilised effectively.

I think keeping it simple, have 4 main trolls then have the rest either acting as a plot relevant agent (like Aradia or Gamzee) and the rest acting as direct supporting casts to one or more of the main trolls. If Vriska has to have her special spotlight then make her the 5th main troll but make it apparent that she's an outlier in the normal 4 player main cast format, which fits with her whole attention whore characterisation.

you mean the overseer project? They're taking the wrong approach though. They're using fan-submitted content to fill out the alchemy system.

What a SBURB simulator actually needs is a database of abstract objects based off natural language processed data. You can use something like Wordnet to kickstart it but it would require additional data mining to really fill it out into something that feels "right".

It's easier than it sounds to create an alchemy/prototyping system that sort of works like Homestuck. You just have to keep in mind data abstraction concepts like inheritance. See:

okay a friend and i got into a fight over this and i'd like clarification
are all sessions without ectobabies doomed from the start? that'd explain why so many are failures but i can't find anything backing it up
my theory was that most players just don't get anywhere and just die to the dumbest shit and that's why there are so many failed games
>>
>>82628525
>the hotdog is dave's entire body

>>82628568
Caliborn wasn't an ectobaby.
>>
>>82628568
>are all sessions without ectobabies doomed from the start?
Not if there's a scratch and the ectobabies come from the other session. (human ectobabies came from the pre-scratch session, troll ectobabies from the post-scratch session)
>>
>>82625287
You just made me realize many years later, that the mailman was chasing the dog this whole time. Holy shit HUSSIIEEEEEEEE
>>
>>82628588
His session was doomed from the start to not produce a universe though
>>
>>82628588
his session was pretty unconventional and didn't produce a new universe though
>>
>>82628606
Ectobiology is said to be a standard component of sburb "lore" but I don't think it is explicitly stated anywhere that ectobabies are required

Imagine being Andrew watching this video and having to be all like "damn, Dante Basco, your cosplay is fuckin' fine, all gray with your flaky body paint and horrific lopsided horns. I would totally kiss you, both my self insert and the real me." when all he really wants to do is jack off to Vriska in his bedroom. Like seriously imagine having to be Andrew and not only sit in his computer chair while Dante flaunts his horrible cosplay in front of you, the low audio barely concealing his terrible singing and badly composed track, and just sit there, video replay after video replay, hour after hour, while he accepts he ruined a celebrity's life. Not only having to tolerate his monstrous fucking visage but his haughty attitude as everyone on Tumblr tells him he's JUST LIKE US and DAMN, DANTE BASCO SINGS LIKE *THAT*?? because they're not the ones who have to sit there and watch all this terrible cosplay give you types of cringe you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been fucking nothing but a healthy diet of MSPA fangirls and later alleged rape victims for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the sburban jungle in Boston. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on his facepaint as dances to a laser light show, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to watch this horrible video based off your webcomic and revel in his "Homestuck (for that is what he calls himself)" beauty, the beauty he worked so hard for liveblogging in the previous months. And then Rachel calls for another replay, and you know you could kill every single person in the What Pumpkin studio before the security guard that tells people about Homestuck could put you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Andrew. You're not going to lose your future TV career over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.
>>
I don't know if I should feel bad for Dante or disgusted with him
>>
>>82628601
i mean like, people who were born normally playing the game, are they always doomed to failure

john (obvious)

liveblogger is "new" to HS in that they have never read it start-to-finish as an experience. they are not new to MSPA itself, have a basic understanding of the kinds of characters and shenanigans they'll encounter, and are quick on the draw for noticing patterns and understanding weird time shit. if you think that's rusing then suit yourself.
