What's the issue with the second one?

Not really. He went on the run when his powers first manifested an fell in with another mutant who lived as a hermit, but he turned out to be a violent criminal and Scott ditched him asap.
>>
>>82621428
It just seems so obvious, and tacked on for exposition purposes. The first time I heard it, I actually thought they were going to just assume that everyone knew about the four horsemen of the apocalypse, but then goddamn Havok starts smirking and being the asshole that he is.
I don't know, it just feels so dumb.

To be fair, Lawrence has looked that way since First Class. Fassbender was kind of losing a bit of his spark in DOFP.

There's a small minority of people that see X2 as a weak movie, but the OMG BEST MOVIE EVER MADE people have been drowning them out for 13 years.

Personally I think it's decent, but really overhyped and did a terrible job of balancing its cast. It's the movie that started the trend of just padding the cast out with a bunch of characters, but what the later movies learned was that it's better to focus on two or three major characters and then shove everyone else into being glorified extras- which is a disappointing use of those characters but resolves the balancing problem. X2 tried to give almost all of its cast a role to play in the story but ended up just being bloated and some of the characters that should've been given more focus end up suffering (Jean's Phoenix subplot is a complete afterthought for most of the movie but suddenly becomes a major thing during the climax), and characters that had little or no actual part to play end up wasting screentime (Rogue, Iceman and Pyro).
>>
>>82625440

>>
>>82625349
X2 has good moments, but it's not aged terribly well. It's a good wolverine movie, and a passable X-Men movie. It was great when it came out, but I don't think it holds up too well.

DoFP felt like a "we're sorry about the continuity errors and always coasting on the actors rather than the characters but we've got them under contract so we're gonna give them a send-off and start anew with proper X-men in an interesting time period. We also now have a blue mystique, a blue beast, and Xavier is gonna be bald, just like he was gonna be already crippled in this movie but not really."

And then they did none of it. It's always two steps forward and one step back. Except now they are going to the side instead. Gonna wait for the DVDRip, if I still remember by then.
>>
>>82625477
I disagree on the Jean part. I felt her awakening as the Pheonix was done very nicely.
>>

So when this movie bombs as badly as Tranktastic, what will happen to Fox-Men? Will Fox give them to Disney? Or will they make a deal like Spider-Man and let their characters appear in the movies but keep the money? Like have Wolverine appear in Infinity War.
>>
>>82625477
Jean's subplot was handled perfectly, it was Ratner that shit the bed with ruining the payoff

Also if you think those three have no part to play I seriously think you don't 'get' the movie
>>
>>82625594

It's not going to bomb and Marvel are never, ever getting the X-Men back.
>>
>>82625613
It's Rothman's fault, not Ratner's. He hated the Phoenix storyline and did all he could to subdue it to the barest acceptable amount.

>>
>>82625594
I doubt it'll actually bomb. It'll make a lot less than DOFP and the studio may consider it a disappointment but it won't be a Fant4stic level failure.

But if we're talking about a scenario in which the X-Men movies stop being profitable, I don't necessarily want the license to revert to Marvel, but I do think the series needs to go away for a few years and then start fresh. I don't care if it stays with Fox or goes to Marvel, I'd just prefer to see them to wait until like 2025 and then make a brand new X-Men.
>>
>>82625659
X3 probably would've been better if it had no Jean and was just about the cure.

>Also if you think those three have no part to play I seriously think you don't 'get' the movie
Iceman's only purpose was to set up a "coming out" scene and Pyro was there to highlight the frustration of being a mutant (further drawing the puberty parallel) as well as show how easy it is to be swayed by Magneto's pitch. Neither of them contributes anything meaningful to the actual story.

They're still more important than Rogue, who adds nothing.

Hell, Iceman detracts from it since they need to detour to Boston solely so he can have that scene.
>>
>>82625594
The worst, and I mean absolute worst case if the movie underperforms, is that FOX isn't confident with the new young cast and goes the soft reboot/recasting route instead of continuing with them.

But Jean and Scott are being pointed to as some of the films strengths despite it's problems, and Storm is just completely underused so even that scenario seems unlikely.

FOX just had Deadpool, have Wolverine 3 and a new X-Men based movie coming up, and an X-Men based tv series on the way. Marvel are not getting the property back. Ever.

>>
>>82625594
Fox can keep the shitty X-Men, they suck dick and would just clog up the MCU

They need FF rights for the villains tho. Marvel should extend the X-Fags contract in return for the FF rights

You should care about the fact that you have shit taste. I mean,
>Waterworld

>>
>>82625898

The scale of the FF and the type of characters they are work better as supporting characters for an MCU, the X-Men are the polar opposite of this.

They work best in isolation, crossing them over does nothing but cause problems in both directions.

IMO, the Boston detour works because they literally were running away at night with their pajamas on, and needed some safe, familiar place to crash. Then they meet up with the rest of the people and regroup and go to Weapon X. The only awkward bit is when they team up with Magneto. X2 could have used maybe fifteen minutes of more material in the middle with the cast before they go attack the Weapon X project.

I know you need to stretch your imagination, but Charles and Havoc just way too much the exact same for it being 20 years later. In DoFP you could kind of gloss over it because they were late teens/early 20s and only in the mid to late 20s for DoFP. This is too much.

>>82625594
Bad reviews are not going to tank a movie with the inertia of a series like X-Men, coming off of the success of DoFP, and maybe even a boost from Deadpool. It's more likely the next one will suffer after this one sucks, like Fant4stick died from people's memories of RotSS.

Comicsbeat pools together several months worth of sales for each title per publisher (and(or the sales from the previous volume if it's a relaunch) (Big Two separately + indy as its own thing) so you got a pretty good picture, quickly, about how any given book was doing. I don't think Comichron does that to such great detail.

The reviews are about, apparently the movie is X-men 3 bad.

I suspect that the biggest flaw of this movie will be trying too hard to be like marvel flicks, instead of being its own thing. If anything, that would be a proof that x-men should never go to mcu, as they don't fit marvel movies

BUMP FOR THE SALT
>>
>>82627799
I don't even know what they were on when they wrote that scene, is it just to drive home the already hamfisted prejudice he has to face? The overactive conveniently placed jock between Scott and the guy's gf wasn't enough?
Any teacher informed a student was not feeling well and needed to be excused would let them go even if they were just faking, if they're ill and get to the principal to complain about her behavior what does she expect to happen? Get a raise? For inconveniencing an ill student? If he's faking he'll still just feign being sick even more and then decide to take it out on her further for trying to call him out for it.

It's not that big of a deal movie wise, but that's just the thing. Why did they waste any time on that line and take? They honestly could have just cut from Scott squinting to barging out of the class, we'd get an immediate sense of urgency as a result and the teacher reacting to his disturbance would be justified since he appears to just be running off. Who even gives a shit about Chad and what's her face? Just have the teach go after Scott when he storms out, get blasted and hospitalized when she checks on him in the stall and voila.

Now it's an unfortunate misunderstanding, the teacher doesn't seem like an uncaring cunt and the audience doesn't need all that useless build up stemming from some bitch turning in her seat.

Looking at Singer's track so far, I think he earned some trust. It would be disappointing if the movie wasn't at least as good as DOFP, but maybe the movie is not bad, as much as it's not as good as previously.

And judging from the reviews, it seems like Apocalypse is DOFP II, albeit not as good.
>>
Problem with the movie is that they chose the most bland, and boring villain they could think, lame two dimensional character that never lived up to the hype. Should have used Proteus -- now that would have made for an interesting movie!

Oh and how could I forget another take away from a simplification is there would be more irony in the teacher who was speaking neutrally on the threat vs aid of mutants to society later getting harmed by Scott accidentally when she was trying to make sure he's okay than some nobody meathead.

The students who hear about it and Scott would have more conflict over the incident compared to bruising some asshole trying to give him a swirly for blinking.

His best storyline was the original one and the exiles one. How do you want to make a 2 hour movie about Proteus.

What are his motivations? Daddy issues?
His powers wouldn't also be epic enough for those who only go to movies for "action".

I do believe that Apocalypse is superior to Proteus. He has a clan, horsemen, and his agenda is very different to most of other villains. People complain that he job, but so far, everything is going according to his plan

I do am worried that this is magneto/prof x show. But there are also many positive things that will happen, like comic book accurate blob, psylocke, and jubille, Years ago, Singer would not even toy with the idea of accurate costumes.

It's far from perfection, but I feel it's the right direction.

>>
>>82628870
>most of the critics bashing Apocalypse, also gave good reviews to DoFP.
Therein might actually lie a problem. DoFP setting unreasonable expectations could actually factor into a middeling movie suddenly being panned as bad.
But I haven't seen it, so at this point, I can just keep an open mind.

I'll give it a shot. The franchise earned at least that. If it really is terrible, I'll have to see how Fox goes on from here.

>implying the genocide of goys is not entertaining
>>
>>82631687
TDK was eight years ago. The paradigm has shifted since then. And wasn't the reception to DoFP wasn't particularly dark, and there were plenty of jokes.
>>
>>82631659
I wonder what FUN stands for?
my suggestion would be
For
Uber
Nerds
>>
>>82631687
A lot of people criticized DOFP for being grim/dark, which is why this movie has more jokes than usual
>>
>>82620278
How did they make Tom Hardy look so young in that clip?
>>
>>82620278
I am rooting for this to fail, but I gotta admit that's a better young Clark heat vision scene than what Snyder did.
>>
>>82631746
X-Men failing will not bring it back to marvel
>>
>>82620278
>Nightcrawler fighting in cage
>teleports right into electric fence
>doesn't just teleport out
I know there's some sort of suspension of disbelief going on for these movies but you can only let it go so far.
>>
>>82631659
It's a natural course correction.

When the film noir of the early 50s got tiresome, bam, the epics of the 60s began.

When the blaxplotation and crime thrillers of the 70s went their course, in came the star wars and Beverly Hills cop esque blockbusters and comedies of the late 70s and 80s.

When the goofy blockbusters of the 90s became passe, we all turned to the more serious and dour films of the late 90s and 00s.

And now we move from that era to the more lighthearted and/or comedic films of today. It's not a problem, it's just a new day.

>because Psylocke's revealing warrior gear is beyond ludicrous. I know, I know, that’s how they looked in the comics. Unpopular opinion alert: I don't care.

FUCKING KEK.
>Make costume faithful to comics, get called out.

>Wolverine is never in his yellow blue spandex with raccoon mask in his 16 years playing the character. Most of the X-men wear black leather suits. Gets called out that costumes are nothing like the comics.
>>
>>82631771
have you thought that he fights for money?
>>
>>82631093
>>82631093
Can you read? He's not saying there are too many jokes, just that those jokes are almost the only thing that works

Plus he's specifically talking about self-referential jokes, like the other one that was mentioned where the kids watch Return of the Jedi and go "the 3rd movie is always the worse one!" as a reference to Last Stand
>>
>>82631934
And I was wondering, if the movie is too light-hearted. That would be unlike x-men
>>
>>82631878
Then why would he fucking touch the cage that he has experience fighting in that clearly has been always set up to electrocute whoever touches it?
>>
>>82631981
because he is a retard. did you see his haircut?
but then again, it might also mean that there is some block that if you try to teleport outside of cage, you end up in cage. I don't know, I don't really think about it
>>
>>82631878
Wasn't he forcibly thrown into the cage
>>
>>82631767

No, but hopefully it'll convince them to start doing more creative smaller budgeted projects like Deadpool with the IP instead of making overbudgeted budgeted, safe, and braindead schlock like Apocolypse is shaping up to be.

The bigger the movie gets, the less risks they'll take with it. That's just how movie studios work.

Ironically, it also applies to this new Younger X-Men trilogy thanks to Apocalypse.
>>
>>82632141
Time will tell. DOFP was well received and it was a full-on Singer. While this movie is shaping up to be a wannabe Civil War
>>
Before people will go hurray for apocalypse failing, I want you to realize that it will mean less new villains, and more mags / prof x
>>
>>82632167

No, I think it will mean more low budget "riskier" projects like Deadpool in an attempt to get another MASSIVELY profitable hit using there characters without having to invest a quadrillion dollars into making giant a CGI clusterfuck.
>>
>>82631862
Their complaint was be consistent which is entirely valid. If everyone had a comic costume it'd be fine but running around in the swimsuit while the heroes are in paintball gear is horseshit

>By what measure is it a hidden anything?
And opening sequence was the best in the franchise.
>>
>>82632167
One of the critique was that Apocalypse felt detached, and the movie still was about Mags/Prof X, with decades old argument of
>Eric, we CAN coexist with humans!
>No, Xavier, we CAN'T!
Singer just seems incapable of anything else.
>>
>>82631862
From what I read that review, I think that the reviewer would complain less if Psylocke would wear that outfit even before she joined. Or at least if the outfit would get recolor by A Poe Calypse, not getting the outfit from scratch by his powers.

The questions should be: why he didn't teleported out of the box they were keeping him in?
>>
>>82632007
>but then again, it might also mean that there is some block that if you try to teleport outside of cage, you end up in cage. I don't know, I don't really think about it
If they had a way to keep him inside the box, keeping him inside the cage should be a piece of cake.
>>
>>82627108
Jubilee can't do math. She is the anti-Asian stereotype.
>>
>>82632226
Not only that but Psylocke only has two lines, she's literally just there to be oggled at.
Psylockes and storms lines combined are less than Magneto's wife and daughters lines.
>>
>>82627799
But it happens
>>
I've never understood the praise for these movies. God knows I loved the first X-Men as a kid, but it's dated as hell. X2 is by far the best, but seriously held back by the biggest failing of the whole franchise, the inability to make more than three characters anything but wallpaper.

That's what really gets me about the movies. Theyre carried by two or three actors giving amazing performances while everyone else might as well not exist. And now that one of the main characters is Katniss Neverblue, I can't really bear to watch
>>
>>82631004
>If it was any bit more lethal his power would have killed many people by accident.

Lethal force on Jock McBullyman from central casting there may have been deserved. If only for being such a damn stereotype. Only Flash Thompson should get away with that in a Marvel movie.
>>
>>82631369
Maybe they'll eventually make a Gen X movie, and have Jubilee be a main character, ignoring the four other actresses to have played her.
>>
>>82624297
This. It's okay to like things most people think are bad.

It gets obnoxious when you start delusionally spewing on about how only you are right and there's this big conspiracy to shit on the movies you fanboy for
>>
>>82633477
Don't worry, her next movie role won't need her to be blue. She'll just need Tony Stark's swagger.
>>
>>82620278
>it's a "teacher is snarky and a douche for no reason" and "the jock bullies the protagonist "episode

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

These tropes never get old.
>>
>>82628498
>I know I'm going to like the movie

You realize that makes you a fanboy whose opinion is irrelevant, right? I don't know why you think you're entitled to discussion when your opinions are predetermined by brand loyalty
>>
Where are the spoilers?
>>
>>82632226
never defend an sjw
EVER
>>
>>82632197
no, they won't risk, and instead they will be even more formulaic
