They did something similar with "Son of Bunnicula"; they took the whole "Dracula impersonates his son" plot from a Universal sequel but made it their own thing.

It's a pretty odd way to play homage to old horror movies, but I guess it's better than trying to flat-out copy the substance of the films they're riffing off of.

I like the Flash-style and the shading similar to the Looney Tunes Show.
The redhead and the blondie are pornable, the black chick not so much.

But the plots have much to be desired from them. For 10 minute comedy shorts they aren't very eventful as say Wander Over Yander. Most of the episodes seem to be wasted on Chester talking to himself a lot as the straightman guy.

I heard season 1 was already over. Now they're trying to get the budget for season 2 and hopefully not get cancelled.

I'd love for them to fix the boring plot problems in season 2 like they're talking about, but I'd be alright too with just season 1's average funny skits inside the house.
There were some shows which only got worse and exaggerated their toilet humour and flaws as the seasons went on so I hope that doesn't happen with Bunnicula just because I talked about it and I jinxed it.

The characters and the overall theme really don't work well together.

It seems like they're trying to cram in 4 different ideas at once rather than just 2 good ideas that work well together.

I really think the show would be better off if it was just Bunnicula and Mina.

Chester is too much of a boring grumpy straightman and Harold is too much of a dumb lovable idiot. Who's more obnoxious and unfunny more-so than Billy.

Plus they keep trying to go for these wacky Cartoonnetwork faces despite the fact the beautiful art style does not work for it

I remember this thick line pretty style design from Dreamworks' Sinbad and Road to El Dorado, maybe Atlantis too. and I assure you they are not made for wacky stretchy faces, at most they're good for liquid hand-drawn animation.
The poor creator can't even draw Chester's head correctly without it looking like a weird skullface.

Speaking of the plot and direction of the show.
Monster of the week works for wacky mis-adventures like Billy & Mandy and Courage the Cowardly Dog, but it doesn't work if your animation budget is so goddamn low that you have to hide your animated scenes behind a door, like the spider sheep episode.

Plus most of Courage and the Grim Adventures didn't really take place inside the house, they'd often times explore different and exotic locations.
That I really don't think this show is meant to go for the isolation and defend the house idea or at least not the boring way it's going about it.

It feels more like it wants to be Tutenstein rather than Billy&Mandy, but it doesn't know how to go about it because Mina and Bunnicula can't communicate(Chester already has far too many problems with that) and they don't know if Bunnicula is suppose to be Courage, Grim or Tutenstein.
Instead of an egyptian theme it would be a New Orleans/Louisiana theme with ghost stories, swamp myths, witches, haunted stuff.

Plus the storytelling, the way they handle the plots.
They have that gipsy full of magic artefacts(plot starters), but they don't know how take a plot idea and storytell it properly beyond recycling the same comedy slapstick scene again and again.

That and let's talk about the music and opening. The music sounds like it was meant for a mistery adventure show like Gravity Falls or Scooby Doo, but not even. Because Scooby and Gravity Falls are detective shows, Gravity Falls is a meme comedy show and Scooby's comedy came from Shaggy and Scooby's running sequences when messing around with the villains Looney Tunes style.

Perhaps if they paced it like Scooby Doo.
Remember how the gang split into 2 teams? Scooby & Shaggy for the comedy and Velma,Daphne,Fred for the more mature storytelling without the "Scoob, dude check this out"

I think it would be best if they were separated. Mina and Bunnicula with their part of the story and Chester with Harold with their own part. That way you can keep all 4 of them without tripping eachother and bleaching out the show's identity.

So far this show doesn't have a defined identity of its own like the rest do.

Personally I really dig Chester. Always feel empathy for the apathetic "Squidward" type character and like how in this show everyone actually likes him, he's just kinda a sour type of person.

Also Chester talking to himself is the actual premise of every Bunnicula book so makes sense.

The shorts are definitely concise and sweet, I really hope this show gets a little momentum so we can have more wicked episodes as the season goes on.

Is a "growing pains" kind of thing most if not all artists go through, If you look at Simon's early Minas and compare them to his more recent ones you already see a lot of improvement, same goes for cute critters and whatever other subject the artist is not familiar with.
At times this unfamiliarity leads to outright uncanny valley effects that ruin the whole, but this ain't the case here, not even close, at least not for me.

I hope a lot of the creatures introduced in previous episodes come back once in a while, it doesnt have to relly heavily on continuity, Iam thinking something along the lines of "We bare bears" (Chloe for example)
