Come, /co/. Lets read one of the best parts of this year's Free Comic Book Day.
The glorious return of ROM! SPACE KNIGHT!
>>82595956
And here's a download link if you want it.

>>82595977
>>82596005
>>82596027
Here he is. In all his toaster-headed glory.
>>82596054
>>82596073
>>82596088
>>82596117
And here we have the new Dire Wraiths.
They kinda look like... um... remember End of Evangelion? Those creepy white things with the smiling faces and the lipstick? Like those.
>>82596150
Shelter the children with no shoes on their feet...
>>82596175
>>82596193
And thats it. Your mouth watering yet?
>>82596219
>>82596240
Hope Hasbro makes a new figure to go with this.
I'd buy it.
>>82596292
So, anyone wanna read the bonus Action Man story that came with it?
>>82596150
Looks like they're no longer from Limbo as well.
>>82596381
Too soon to say.
>>82596465
It really isn't.
https://twitter.com/Christosgage/status/729332099098910720
>>82596381
I thought that was were Rom banished them?
>>82596150
They kind of look like the Iszes from The Maxx too, only bigger. They can still do the stabbing-proboscis thing to steal someone's form, so I'm down with that.
>>82596240
ROM almost had an Eva-01 head. Not sure how I feel about that.
>>82596523
Yeah, the Dire Wraiths are from Wraithworld in the Dark Nebula, a planet so foul that when Galactus nearly ate it at Rom's behest, his reaction was "are you trying to fucking poison me." They're originally from the Skrull homeworld, but they eventually settles on Wraithworld and fouled it up with magic powered by the Dark Nebula's black sun.
>>82596219
10/10
Thanks OP
Boco, stop trying to storytime, you fucking nerd
>>82597420
Yes sir...
Well, I'm off to bed. Night /co/.
>>82595956
>Dire Wraiths
???????
wasn't that a marvel creation?
>>82598033
No.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktFvrEQKdjw
Marvel still owns their versions, though, hence why the ones here are rather different.
>>82596150
They're shapechangers, so maybe that's just a chosen "combat form" though?
What's the big deal with Rom? Why is so beloved? I really don't get it and this issue didn't help at all.
>>82596193
His hand turns into gun? I'm not familiar with Space Knights.
So this is like a half-size issue?
Glad someone else storytimed this. I was going to if no one else did it first.
>>82596240
Thank God they went with simpler design.
>>82602382
Read the original run by Bill Mantlo. That's it. We like Bill Mantlo's writing.
Nothing about this new ROM is interesting at all.
>>82602508
Mantlo's writing was shit though. It was 100% about the content.
>>82602547
What did Anon mean by this?
>>82595956
Nice cover.
>>82596027
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THE MNAN IS BACK BAY-BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>82596054
I never though I would see this again. This is utterly mindblowing to actually see this come true.
>>82596073
What happened to his normal weapons? Hasbro owns those, right?
>>82596117
I thought Marvel owned the Dire Wraiths, James Gunn lied.
>>82596088
WTF?
>>82596117
The fuck is ROM doing there?
>>82596150
Why is this motherfucker revealing his true form in front of humans? They were smarter than that in the original book.
>>82596150
Well that dude's dead.
>>82602668
He was going to kill them anyway.
>>82596175
WTF? That is just absolutely FUCKED looking. Dire Wraiths are still shape shifters, right? So are they always going to look like this or will they have other forms?
>>82596117
>>82596193
Is ROM killing these motherfuckers? Because I'm not seeing any shit about limbo.
>>82602382
The old run was good, also this is just a few pages so wait for the full comic to come out.
Anyway it was eitheir this or have Marvel take charge of Rom again and have the comic written by Bendis because Bendis wanted to write it and Alonso wanted to give Rom to him.
>>82596150
>>82596175
>>82596219
What's this shit about "the wraithmark?
>>82596381
>>82602700
Limbo is a Marvel owned thing so no they can't be from Limbo anymore
http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Limbo_(Otherplace)
>>82596240
>>82596292
I was worried they'd fuck up the design, but they only changed minor stuff and didn't do anything drastic make any fundamental changes to the classic design. It still looks like ROM.
>>82596323
This looks GORGEOUS. Is that gonna be the cover to issue #1?
>>82602716
So then what the fuck is happening to them?
>>82602632
They own the original version of the Dire Wraiths and also a version of the Spaceknights.
So no more Rogue/ROM?
>>82602800
>>82598779
The opening narration touched a part of me that has lain dormant since early Who.
Ok, that was pretty decent. And I'm glad to see ROM still talks all majestic. And it's funny to see Ryall being an absolute fanboy and getting as many awesome artists as possible to come do a ROM cover. Pic related.
>>82602812
So she fucks a robot?
Also, putting an ad at the end for the Bill Mantlo recovery fund was the absolute classiest of class moves.
>>82596150
The marvel dire wraiths were practically walking piles of flesh. I guess it's always debatable what they look like.
>>82602652
Being a hero!
>Now Chris, we know you're very happy to have ROM and all, but don't you think twenty different variant covers by different artists is a bit excessive?
>You know what, you're right, we have enough covers for issue 1.
>Oh thank Go--
>So let's put ROM in the cover of everything else we publish!
>>82602709
Apparently it's a clumsily delivered plot hook.
>>82602800
>>82602812
She's a robo sexual.
Pretty funny that the worst her kiss did was Mae ROM feel things.
>>82604798
Match made in Heaven for you, huh Judge?
>>82605099
Hell yeah. And it's by John McCrea, who I fucking love.
>>82602508
>Nothing about this new ROM is interesting at all.
Maybe it's cause I didn't read the original, but when I picked it up I thought it looked interesting.
>>82604870
>>82604676
Is this pre-Wanda/Vision relationship or post?
>>82604654
>ROM by Sienkiewicz 01.jpg
That is absolutely spectacular. Sienkiewicz has still got it.
>>82604677
Is that seriously John Buscema?
>>82604798
THAT is a team-up that needs to happen!
>>82605420
kek, don't think so
>>82605420
Sal Buscema, actually. Who you may remember drew one half of ROM's original series. The other half was drawn bySteve Ditko. And if Ryall manages to get a cover outta him then it's officially the end of days.
>>82605141
WTF is that from?
>fucking ROM returned before The Platoon even got a release date
>>82605500
Your guess = Mine.
>>82605526
Man, you just had to go and bum it all out, didn't you?
>>82596175
Looks like a Nephilim from warmahordes. It'd be pretty neat to see Rom take on the Legion.
>>82602756
He's killing them. I'm not sure how much more obvious they can make that.
>>82605526
>Captain America White finished before The Platoon even started
>ROM Spaceknight came back before The Platoon was released
>Micronauts came back before The Platoon was released
>Ennis wrote a Hitman spin-off before The Platoon was released
>The Fix started before The Platoon did
>Luther Strode will finish before The Platoon even begins
>Jupiter's Legacy will almost 100% guaranteed be over before The Platoon is published
>The Multiversity came out before The Platoon did
>Wonder Woman Earth One came out before The Platoon did
>Scout was announced to continue by Timothy Truman before The Platoon was announced for release
>Frank Miller returned to comics to do Dark Knight III before The Platoon even had an official announcement from Marvel
>All Star Batman and Robin continued before The Platoon even started coming out
>Pre-New 52 Superman returned before The Platoon had a release date
>Gwen Stacy came back before Punisher MAX did
>General Stacy came back before Punisher MAX did
>UNCLE BEN came back before Punisher MAX did
>Len Wein wrote Swamp Thing again before Ennis got to write Punisher again
>STEVE FUCKING DITKO ANNOUNCED HIS RETURN TO COMICS BEFORE THE PLATOON EVEN GOT AN OFFICIAL FUCKING ANNOUNCEMENT
At this rate I expect Fell to continue, Super Pro KO volume 3 to come out, and Stan Lee to die all before The Platoon hits shelves.
>>82606092
>>82605526
>Groo vs. Conan came out before The Platoon
Why should I care? Marvel ows everything that made the character interesting. He's a blank slate.
>>82606159
ROM's purity and valor were really the things that made him so endearing. And this is a pretty well done comic.
Wow that art is generic and incredibly boring and yeah stripped of his context ROM becomes just another blank slate man in suit guy.
>>82596292
In Marvel Legends or Universe scale pls
>>82606117
The finale of Hickman/Weaver SHIELD and a Gamora series will come out before The Platoon
Anyone have any idea how many copies this moved?
>>82596005
It's like they already signed a movie deal, starring Rhianna.
>>82596005
>>82606319
OH SHI-
You're right!
>>82596073
This isn't as good as the original number one
>>82606687
Good thing its number zero, then.
>>82605526
Is 'The Platoon' the Duke Nukem Forever of comics?
>>82606092
>STEVE FUCKING DITKO ANNOUNCED HIS RETURN
Wait, whut?
>>82606043
Aw.
I mean, fuck the Dire Wraiths, but I kind of liked no-kills Rom. Made for some tension with people like Terminator and gave him some of that classic tormented conscience purple prose.
A Rom who just wastes people and give no fucks loses a bit of his character.
>>82606693
Poor.
>>82606819
He's got a Kickstarter going on right now for some new Mr. A issues. Or maybe reprints. I dunno, the KS is kinda obfuscating.
>>82606777
Wasn't Multiversity in the works for 8 years? I'd say that's closer.
Thanks, OP.
bumping for others.
>>82596219
Thank you for the storytime, dude. I missed this one at Free Comic Book Day, so I appreciate getting to read it here.

>>82611104
>>82596150
How do you pronounce them, anyway?
Like "bath" or like "faith"?
>>82612213
Pretty sure it's the latter.
>>82612213
>>82612213
Wraith is always pronounced like Faith.
So, how long until we find out what the most popular FCBD comics were, anyway?
