Spooky comics, pages, panels, whatever you've liked recently.

Nameless is amazingly designed, trippy as hell and felt like reading the Invisibles again. I genuinely couldn't tell what was real towards the end. Thanks to the /co/mrade who recommended it to me.

House of Penance. I didn't realize it was based on a real woman till I read an interview about it, that makes it even more crazy.

Nameless would have been fucking amazing as an Avatar bloodbook. Just the designs on the door inside that ship triggered primal instincts of fear and wrongness within me.
>>
>>82564324
Yeah, I liked the first issue a lot. Bertram's art works great for a spooky story, much like Burnham's. Something about the way they do details. I imagine Quitely would be a great horror artist as well for similar reasons, though I can't think of any he's done off the top of my head. Same with Kuder.

I've read Neonomicon and the one before it but those came out a while ago.

It's The Courtyard, then Neonomicon, and then Providence.

Because Providence is playing with some time shit so it's both prequel and sequel to the other two.

>>
>>82570755
I'm pretty sure the comic got the idea from the smugglers, not vice versa.

There's an old story about a couple losing their child while vaccinationing in Mexico. It's found when someone tries taking it across the border, claiming their child is motionless and quiet because it's sleeping. When the baby is examined it's found to be dead; sewn full of drugs.

There is another Alan's-Lovecraft comic that many keep forgetting or haven't read:

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen -Nemo Heart of Ice.
2 volumes. 1st ends with a rape scene (it's Alan Moore, so no surprise) 2nd is a complete ripoff from At the Mountains of Madness

Wut? What was the first one? I read only Heart of Ice and was pretty sure it was the first one in the Nemo miniseries. Do you mean the first issue of LoEG 3rd volume?
>>
>>82563914
How many issues of Nameless are there? Is it a closed story or more volumes coming up?
>>
>>82575552

It is a single story in 2 volumes like the previous League. 1st volume is Nemo's daughter trying to leave her father's legacy and abandoning the Nautilus. She got raped while working on an English tavern. 2nd volume starts with her summoning her old crew , taking revenge on those sordid Londoners and then goes all Mountains of Madness

Heart of Ice was definitely the first Nemo trilogy book, which does end all Mountains of Madness-y. Then it's Roses of Berlin, with her against Chaplin's character in The Great Dictator and all the German extraordinary gentlemen. And lastly, River of Ghosts, with Janni trying to leave a decent legacy by ridding the world of She and the remaining Tomanian war criminals.

Yeah it's a comic but it's a palimpsest of old pages, you can see stains on them, some pages are taped together and torn...someone on the Al Columbia FB page said the book (Pim & Francie: The Golden Bear Days) "feels like evidence from a crime that hasn't been committed" which I thought was pretty apposite...seriously though it's a very, very good comic (and it IS a comic, there's speech ballons etc--that's the only place where text appears--it's just there's a lotta splash pages and stuff), highly recommended, it's OOP but I think you can still get it for cover off the Fanta website...
>>82581299
Yeah, Al Columbia's very influenced by the Fleischer cartoons. You can see it a lot in his post-Biologic Show stuff, his anthology stories like "I Was Killing Before Killing Was Cool" and all that other great, uncollected shit from Fanta's old Zero Zero anthology...

Kind of offtopic, but what are some comics or even cartoons with truly frightening villains? And I don't mean just capes.

If that helps, Anton Chigurh, Killer BOB from Twin Peaks, Michael Myers in original Halloween and Manhunter's Hannibal Lecter are my ideas of a scary villain.
>>
>>82584245
I've read maybe the first year of the original series and a few volumes here and there. I love how actually dark it is.

I'll never forget when he convinced his one 'friend' to be bait for a demon and let it have him.

I was stoked when the show did it but it didn't have Constantine go full bastard.
>>
>>82584484
I think this is a great question. Would love to read a comic in the vein of the Hannibal show (which is mostly Red Dragon/Manhunter).

Off the top of my head the only comic I can think of is DeathNote
>>
>>82584484
Maybe Smokey from Crossed, if you liked Michael Myers.

>all those shitty Texas Chainsaw Massacre comics set in remake continuity

I thought they were pretty good, at least the ones by WildStorm (besides Raising Cain).

>>82582071

Well, some OC slasher comics are Gutwrencher and Final Girl, though the latter was by Antarctic Press and thus likely awful.

Honorable mentions to Hack/Slash and We Kill Dead (not sure if that's started yet).

There's also Bloody Maiden, though that's /a/
>>
>>82584700
If we're talking manga Johan counts.
>>
>>82584702
Speaking of, what Crossed stories are worth reading?
I always ignored it because I heard it was not good and because I'm not big on zombie apocalypse genre, but I'm kind of curious now.
>>
>>82584784
Maybe it's just my dislike for remake continuity blinds me.
Now that I think of it, why aren't there any Next Generation comics?
I mean, sure, the movie was probably the worst in all of franchise but it was funny for all the wrong reasons. Maybe some comic book writer could poke fun at how stupid it is.
>>
>>82585065

Plus maybe Dead or Alive, Badlands #50-56, Badlands #75-80, and Badlands #93-100 (were at #96 right now).

Special mention to Psychopath, not because it's good, but because it's quite possibly still the most extreme story.
>>
>>82585065
If Designated Dave is still around, I'm pretty sure I read most of crossed through his storytimes or mediafire.

The first story is pretty good, Psycho is garbage, and then most of Badlands is good but it's inconsistent.
Off the top of my head, American Quitters is really good, the Fatal Englishman issues, and the one that takes place in the deep north.
>>
>>82567260
That's a nice design
>>
>>82585065
I liked Crossed +100. It's moved 100 years a head in time and people have adapted, have their own weird culture, etc

>>82585307
What did you think of +100?
>>
>>82584867
Looks right up my alley, thanks.

>>82584484

I dunno comic, but a superhero show with horror stuff is Kamen Rider Kuuga, but it varies from arc to arc. The creators were big Giallo fans, and it shows.

Agito had some stuff too, but not as much.

One of villains exclusively targets kids, driving at least one victim to suicide.

This is what happens Kuuga gets his hands on him.

Don't see that in Ultraman.

If you dig this you may (on some level) like Guyver.

Never watched Ultraman Leo, then.

Or KR Amazon.

Those are like Happy Tree Friends.

Less bloody, but all the more gruesome, Agito has my favorite type of deaths from monsters/villains.
They range from, let's see off the top of my head:
>Free Falling
>Mangled into small, closed, and tight spaces
>being phased into walls and floors
>suffocation
>drowning (While on land)
>high impacts from mach 1

There's more I'm forgetting, but Agito was just as brutal with it's deaths as Kuuga.

What a great scene. One of the best moments in Kamen Rider, imo.
>>
>>82589267

Don't get me wrong, Agito is fucking awesome, but I think Kuuga was more brutal just because a lot of Agito's deaths were really esoteric and the Grongi were super up close and personal guys. Chop down a tree to find a dude stuffed inside or dissolving into sand or being killed by your doppleganger vs ripping eyes out with your bare hands.

Opinion, of course. Both great shows.

I don't know man, Sadist Clown God was pretty scary. When things get to a certain scale of power or alienness, their perspective changes completely. Like when I was a little kid I stuck bugs on thorns - I wasn't trying to be evil or anything, I just liked having them altogether, somewhere I could see them. And that's the really scary part - what if SCG was like that? A higher being that had no concept of the damage it was doing, or thought it was actually helping us?
That's what Cosmic Horror is supposed to be about, not mindfucks or plot twists. Seeing the big picture and seeing how unbelievably small you are by comparison.
>>
>>82571651
85% of Irredeemable is unnerving. It's really good at that.

This has been one of my favorite novels since I was a kid, the comic adaptation was perfect.
Have you read the novel? Barker did illustrations throughout the book and some are pretty terrifying.
Pic related is when Harvey turns Marr's hands on herself.
>>
>>82584245
There was a great Hellblazer storytime some months back about this woman who went around causing people to go crazy by making them experience horrible memories she'd pulled from victims around the world. I forget what it was called
>>
>>82591137
Never read Thief, unfortunately, but Weaveworld was the book that got me into his stories, novels and films. It's prob one of my favourites. There's a comic adaptation but I don't feel like it would live up to my mind's horrific imagery.

You read Weaveworld?

I really liked the way the male hero kept loosing his memories and feeling of magic only for them to come crashing back when she does.
>>
>>82591315
Never read Weaveworld, I read Imajica instead and thought they'd be too similar.
Now that I read about Weaveworld though, it seems I was completely off base.

Yeah, they look nothing alike but it sounds epic. I'm going in. Hold my hat.
>>
>>82591437
Weaveworld is a pretty neat book. Books of Blood is better though.
>>
>>82591610
Imagica is about (in part) the reconciliation of parallel worlds, I just guessed by the title they'd be similar.

>>82591637
I'll check them both out!
>>
>>82591957
>I'll check them both out!
Interestingly when it comes to Books Of Blood, you can read either the original books or the comics, as they are very faithful to the books. I'd read the books first though, we can storytime the comics next halloween. The comic of Rawhead Rex is also faithful and well done.
>>
>>82592147
>Books Of Blood, you can read either the original books or the comics
It would be interesting to see a comic of the Hellbound Heart

>Rawhead Rex
Never again.
>>
>>82592414
The stories about the desert child and the dueling villages in Russia were always my favorite. I don't think The Hellbound Heart is in the comics.
>>
>>82567446
This one gets by pretty well since it's implied that this monster is made from people that were going to church.
>>
>>82594900
What besides its kind of cathedrally look implies that?
>>
>>82594900
