So who things everybody's favorite animated film of 2016 (*so far) will hit a billion?
it dont matter
none a this matters
Disney is gonna forget about Zootopia to focus on their The Rock movie
So, this is still in theaters. Hell, at my theater its getting more daily viewings than BvS.
So why the fuck are they already putting it on DVD in June?
>>82538450
Shit sucks, man
It's not going to reach a billion.
>>82538462
Disney didn't have faith in the film and wanted to get it out and over with asap.
Didn't it already do really well, basically? I hope this movie isn't just forgotten in like 2 months like other "good but no one cares" movies like Lego movie. You don't see that shit on cereal boxes or whatever
>>82538567
Isnt The Lego Movie getting a bunch of theatrical spin offs and a sequel?
plus everyone threw a fit when it wasnt nominated for the Oscars
>>82538450
>Disney's going to shift focus to its next film to be released.
? Obviously.
>no Zootopia thread for hours
Will w-we survive?
It will probably manage 950 million at this point
>>82538653
We will slip into a temporary coma for a while, then after the blu-ray deleted scenes and other unseen content arrives we will spawn back up and ruin the hotpockets weekends once again
from there a TV show or whatever the fuck Disney takes it with will help keep us alive

>>82538462
Why wouldn't they? Isn't it better to ride the hype train and put the home release out as fast as you can?
>>82538520
Did they really had no faith in the movie? They are close to 1 billion dollars in earnings without a massive marketing campaign, that shit is seriously impressive
These threads aren't allowed to stop until these two officially get together. I need it.it'll never happen ; ;
>>82538940
>not knowing the difference between legitimate discussion and having perpetual cancer generals
>>82539037
Just let us keep lying to ourselves please
do you think Nick was bullied for being homosexual?
>>82539012
It had like 5 years of development hell and they barely advertised it. The lack of trying to get people out to see this movie gives off the impression they weren't initially hopeful for it, at least how I figure. Hell, I and other friends of mine had to look up the release date only to see that it was already out. The question now is how Disney will react seeing as how in just 2 months it almost hit 1billion with as little marketing as it had realizing they fucked up and start trying to backpedal on marketing it, or just let it fade off and move on to Finding Dory and Moana.
>>82539225
>Disney realizes marketing is a waste of time when you're fucking Disney, and stops spending half their budgets on posters
if only
>>82538721
>>82538490
"muh golden week" you forgot they are notnstoppijg to air the movie yet, some box offices weren't updated yet too.
Gee, its like you don't want to bieleve a bunny can be a cop, bogo
>>82539471
Judy can be a cop,she just can't be a cop without violating a huge sum of laws and protocol.
>>82539442
>You were born just in time to watch disney rake in billions with no advertising at all
>>82538596
>it wasn't nominate for the Oscars
that's the point though, it's like no one remembered it enough to vote for it or some shit.
I can only hope Zootopia keeps up its momentum in the face of Pixar sequel shit and Tumblr Princess feat. The Rock.
>>82538808
>implying Nick's shitposting can't transcend time and space to reach our own dimension and reality
>>82539170
>>82539037
This genuinely upset me. The one time it's totally cute and logical for the two leads to hook up and they decide to leave them as friends. For fuck sake the movie theme was about acceptance and preds/prey putting aside bias, how much more fitting story-wise than a pred and prey that saved the entire city end up loving each other.
I know it would have felt rushed but fuck it, didn't 5 months or something pass before the concert? I think Rich tweeted it or whatever? they could've hooked up.
>>82539620
a movie that reaches a billion or gets close to it doesn't really disappear that easily
>>82539683
all that matters is that Disney capitalizes on it
look at Avatar - highest grossing movie of all time, yet no one gives a shit about it anymore, and thats because they refused to even touch it after its run was over
>>82539683
Titanic still hasn't gotten a sequel nearly 20 years later
>>82539683
>You were born just in time to witness a billion dollar movie disappear that easily
>>82538450
>Disney is gonna forget about Zootopia
its their 2nd biggest after Frozen, did they forget Frozen 2 year later?
>>82539442
No, Deadpool did the opposite with the same effect, massive marketing campaign and they made quite a bit. Then I guess there's BvS, massive marketing and hype, and simple name recognition, wonder what other directors and shit will drop out of those projects.
>>82539683
I just hope it can weather the storm for the next couple months, as I seriously doubt either Finding Dory or Moana will be as good as it -- but one has the added factor of being a sequel to one of Pixar's most beloved films (centered on Ellen Degeneres fish) and the other is a brown princess movie being released just in time to be Oscar-bait in much the same way Frozen and Big Hero 6, unfortunately, were.
>>82539225
>Moana and finding dory don't do enough to come close to zootopia
>Disney backpedals super hard
>Zootopia 2 guaranteed
I know is wishful thinking and hoping other movies to fail but maaaaan I want a sequel in the future.
>>82539749
Careful what you wish for. How many disney sequels were good besides rescuers and pixar?
>>82539442
This is actually 100% true.
Disney is at a point now where they could have an entire film be about some princess singing while taking a dump and it would rake in at least $800 million and end up as certified fresh on RT without any significant advertising.
I'm fine with Zootopia's success since it deserves it, but as a film geek find myself worrying over how much control Disney has over the film industry. It has gotten to the point where they are literally sucking all of the oxygen out of the room for non-Disney films, which is even more sad seeing as the majority of their films aren't much to look twice at. Most are generic films that clearly were filtered by a focus group before release.
How in the hell they ended up with a gem like Zootopia is a miracle, especially with all of the last-minute changes.
>>82539749
WiR didn't do to well, yet it's getting a sequel. BH6 didn't do nearly as well and it's getting a show. Disney isn't done with this.
>>82539319
>>82539795
I wouldnt cite the Direct-To-DvD bullshit era of Disney as something they still do
I actually believe they can pull off a sequel these days, but maybe thats just me hoping Incredibles 2 wont suck
>>82538450
Why do people have this stupid mentality? You do realize there is a lot on Disney's plate right? You know they aren't gonna announce a sequel anytime soon because they have a lot of shit in development. When they announced Frozen 2, there wasn't much in development except Zootopia and Big Hero 6. Now they're working on Moana, Gigantic, Frozen 2, Wreck-it Ralph 2 and an untitled film. Frozen 2 isn't coming out till 2020. Disney will make a sequel, they're just busy with a lot of other shit at the moment.
>>82539940

Nick is a more interesting character than Judy
Judy was a better lead than Nick
The sequel should focus on Nick
This just in,drawing polygons is harder than it looks.
Also, have a tiny bogo.
Man I wish I'd gone to see it earlier now, as I finally have and discussion is dead.
Anyway, its a remarkably well realized and thoughtful film. I really don't have anything bad to say about it other than thinking some scenes towards the beginning had to have been cut that would have helped elucidate Nick's continued motivations and the deepening of their friendship . . . but that's it.
Can we agree it was better than Frozen?

People will parrot the "Zootopia was Disney's B-film" meme until the end of days, but there's no honest evidence to support it. Disney doesn't sink $150 million into something unless they think it's going to pay off. Companies who focus on profit don't invest in something thinking, "Well this is our shitty project that we don't care about that much; eh fuggit"
But that won't stop people from constantly purporting that Zootopia somehow didn't have Disney's investment.

He seems to indulge the shippers a bit too much, which isn't inherently bad, but looks a bit odd to people who enjoyed the movie without the rabid desire to ship the fox and bunny.

That entire arc has been done to death. If I see one more intelligent and sensible main character turned into a total retard for one episode just because they're in the presence of a personal hero I'm going to vomit. It's lazy, it's boring, and it's not in character.
Nick and Judy adventures should, first and foremost, have a solid foundation of trust between the two that is very difficult to break. And when I say "difficult to break", I mean it should not happen unless there's an actually well-written and compelling reason for it. No contrived bullshit where "Uhh this week we need them to be at odds with each other sooo we'll write it this way!"

To be honest, if I were to incorporate Jack Savage into the current Zootopia he would!d be a fictional character in a pulpy novel series.written by Nick under a pseudonym. When he finds out Judy's discovered his old book series and has become a massive fan, he sets up a sort of ARG for her to play to help "finish the latest novel" and meet the author in person.

Animated or just a small 2d still outline?
>>82543433
Yeah, nah. I appreciate your creativity but someone who paid attention to the film can easily stand behind the notion Judy has iron will and unbreakable determination coupled with strong personal code.
She quit her dream job after being handed celebrity ticket from a mayor because she felt she didn't do the right thing. Few people and appreciate how much guts and self consciousness it takes. That's just one example. She'd never betray, break a promise or give up on what is important for her. And after the story they had with Nick? She spent nearly a year in depression before they made up.
>>82545106
The thing is, it would either have to be saved for the sequel where it's built up too with all the pre-established stuff that's happened with Nick and Judy, or squeezed into the first film right at the concert.
It's rushed, yeah, but honestly the vast majority of casual movies goers would just find it cute as fuck. I mean tons of people left the theatre thinking they were together at the end of the movie, so a kiss at the concert wouldn't have felt that off.
Idk, man. Either way it didn't happen, but I kinda wish it had. It's a tough spot

it is. Everyone was expecting BvS to go 1 bil automatically, possibly 1.5-2. 850 is pretty decent, but it still underperformed according to expectations.
Sure, stated budget was 250. Advertising probably brought that up close to 350-500. So it still is making a profit. Just not as big as it could/should/was expected to make.
Especially since Civil War might make 1-1.2.

Why aren't these threads being deleted?
Because they're on-topic for /co/?

This is a documentary by James Cameron and while it may not be exactly a sequel to the 1997 Titanic movie which is slightly fictional (namely Jack and Rose's story).
Being by James Cameron and being about the Titanic may somewhat qualify for making it the official sequel despite not having to do with continuing Jack and Rose's story.

I work at a theater, so aside from doing auditorium checks coinciding with favorite scenes dozens upon dozens of times by now, I watched it start-to-finish six times for free and paid for tickets three times.
Speaking of Nick's sexuality I do find it weird when he drooled at Gazelle like that.
Is it from an earlier concept? when it was going to be Nick's show in which it was more legitmate for him to show his desire?
i ask because that scene seems pointless even if the point was to show Judy's jealousy

Isn't it too late for that? Disney didn't give a shit

It's not a princess property, it will never be "their new cow" the majority of the stuff with disney's name on it will always be toys for little girls.
Besides "new cow" status has been for Star Wars and Marvel for a long while now. Disney really doesn't give a shit about their animation wing, their fucking theme park makes more money than Frozen in two months.

> their fucking theme park makes more money than Frozen in two months.
if you actually look it up it takes them a year to match Frozen's amount, plus all the merch profit doesn't add to the box office so that's an additional hidden asset

>>82549977
Disney wants as much money as it can get and Zootopia has proven itself to be well worth the investment despite a lack of advertising and merch.
They get more money from other trash like capeshit and star wars but Zootopia's success will hopefully convince them that it's worth making movies that are actually good.

If anything it helps it. 3 months pass and the first thing Judy does is go straight to find Nick, Nick is still deeply hurt by what Judy said despite it being months ago, and not only that he still had Judy's carrot pen on him. Not even at home or laying around, he was carrying it on him.

Yeah, they're from "Song of the South," and old Disney film that was actually so racist that it can't actually be viewed today.

You do realize that nobody is attempting to insult Gideon in any of those headcanons where he is gay, right?
Just because you perceive being gay as being bad in some way doesn't mean that we also do.
>>82556342
used this as RI for three months and no one cared, why no?
>>82556359
It's an insult because he isn't gay in the movie and gays feel the need to force their nasty shit on anyone they please. Let's end it there, it's a nice thread otherwise.

Except he is straight. Do you really think in a Disney movie for fucking children they're going to make characters gay ? Cute animal characters at that? >>82556725
How does making characters gay automatically make it not for kids? Or are you just retarded?
Why does Finnick listen to French hip hop? Where they just too cheap to license American hip hop for the brief few seconds that that they used in that one scene?
>>82556780
no, its just a joke

>>82556769
>Woops I'm out of ammo
>I'll call him retarded
And my point wins
>>82556769
To be fair, gay does tend to be associated with sexuality more than heterosexuality, for the simple reason that it's not the norm.
We don't live in a world where "some people are straight and some people are gay" - gay is the exception. Therefore, if a character is said to be gay or shown to be romantically involved with their own gender, we can't help but think "oh, this character has a sexuality. Oh, this sexuality is directed towards people of their own gender.", and that's already more implications than children's movies are generally willing to have.
While on the other hand, if you see a boy and a girl together, most people don't think about sexuality, they just think "yeah, boys and girls".
>>82556725
>Do you really think in a Disney movie for fucking children they're going to make characters gay
Actually, I'm quite sure that Judy's neighbors are some sort of "sneaky" gay couple - they have the same, hyphenated last name but are different species and live together.
>>82556831
You didn't answer my question. How do gay characters make it not ok for kids?

>>82556804
>>82556780
It's not an actual French rap song - when I saw the movie I didn't even notice that it was supposed to be in French.
Rewatching the scene, I feel like the lyrics are supposed to be:
>"Qui suis-je?" "Le renard" (x2)
>"Voilà voilà , et toi [indecipherable]"
Roughly "who am I? The fox" (two times) and "there, there, and you...". Which not only is very awkward grammar, but also very weirdly pronunced - so obviously American musicians making some sort of parody of French rap.

>How many times you've changed your opinion following argument over the internet?
Very, very often.
I've never done a full 180° turn in opinions after having an epiphany over a single 4chan post, obviously.
But debating with people *does* change your opinion, just not by much. It forces you to consider other perspectives, look at actual facts that you may have no come across without that discussion, and even if within the context of the debate, you dismiss someone else's point of view for one reason or another, chances are you will still remember the argument next time you have that debate.
My views on a *lot* of subjects have probably evolved enormly from all the discussions I've had on the Internet, be it actual debate or chill discussions. Everything isn't "oh god I was wrong all along" - opinions form slowly over time.
Your views have probably changed because of Internet discussions, too. You may just not realize or remember it, but I doubt you would be the same person if you didn't browse 4chan, would you?
